Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

RIP Gil Scott Heron (1949-2011)

Despite all the excitement about the big match yesterday, it's important to note the passing of Gil Scott Heron. Here he is in his element in the 70s doing one of my favorites - "The Bottle." He'll be missed.

Such a tortured talent. He'd cheated the reaper so many times. RIP.

Absolutely. I had the chance to see the great man twice. Once with a great band at the old Paradise club in Boston during college. He was great that night.

Not so the second time at Scullers, a tony jazz club in the Embassy Suites hotel. He was clearly out of his element and probably out of his mind on a number of "substances."

I would have loved to have seen him in D.C. in the 70s railing about "Skippy" (Jimmy Carter) and "Re-Ron" (Reagan) with the great Midnight Band and Brian Jackson on flute. Fortunately, I've got the records.
