Argentina v. Uruguay Live!
It's quarter final time in the Copa America this weekend. Tonight, hosts Argentina will have to prove that their thrashing of lowly Costa Rica wasn't a fluke and that they're the real deal. Uruguay will no doubt present a much more difficult challenge. Join me from 6pm onward for all the LOB action.

I'm joining Colombia v. Peru toward the end of the second half and notice that I've been rewarded for my prescience. I thought it might be a bore and decided to go on a bike ride instead. It's 0-0 of course. Falcao has missed a penalty for Colombia but that's as close as either side have come to scoring. We're getting close to extra time at this point.
Oh - off the bar in the 92nd minute!
0-0 at the end of regular time.
Extra time starting up in Cordoba.
Vargas goes close for Peru straight from the kick-off. Great save.
It's happened again - I've grown tired of the Univision bloke's yelling and have bailed for the quieter climes of ESPN on-line here:
http://www.hqfooty.com/
GOL! What a rocket from the substitute!
1-0 Peru!
The Colombia keeper had looked wobbly from crosses earlier on and there it was again. He came for the cross and didn't get there and when the ball came back out Carlos Lobotan absolutely leathered it home!
Hey Bob,
I am here for a little while after a busy day getting ready for Tom's graduation party. Kathy has been busy inside and I have been working on the outside
I have joined your link to see Peru are winning 1-0 coming to the end of the first period of extra time
A roll of the dice for the Colombians now. Gutierrez is coming on for Aguilar who has missed a number of golden chances.
Welcome, Dave!
Graduation Party?! In July?!
Rodallega has a chance now from the free kick. Over the wall but over the bar as well.
They last all summer!
This was a last minute decision for a party. He is asking some friends over. We have about thirty kids coming. Subs, pizza and wings
I don't know about that celebration from Lobatan. Is he indicating that he's an expert trumpeter?
Did your lot win today?
Subs, pizza and wings? Why didn't you say so! I'll be there in about five hours - same me some?
Seriously, though, give Tom a pat on the back for me.
Those horns are almost as annoying as the vuvas
We mullered Motherwell 2-1 this morning. Second win over Scots opposition this week.
I agree - but on Univision you can't even hear them for all the yelling.
Come on over... just be here before kick off tomorrow afternoon!!!
That was a rocket by the Colombian!
Which kick off? The Women's World Cup or the Copa Quarters?
Every time they mention Falcao I think of the bloke for Brazil in 82. I watched their best goals on youtube a couple of days ago... brillant
GOL! Vargas comes good with a shot rifled into the top of the net!
2-0 Peru!
TWO NIL!!!
That almost missed...almost looked like it hit the bar
Terrible clearance by the keeper
I think the same thing. He was on the Europa League winning Porto side this season. I'm surprised by Colombia - I really rated them after the first round.
The goalkeeper has been at fault in both goals - he's rubbish.
Women's World Cup
There is going to be a houseful for kick off
Did you see that Wenger was getting shirty today with Mancini over Citeh's trying to poach Nasri?
Arsenal looked dreadful this morning, btw.
What time does that start - 3pm?
When did he miss a penalty?
2 pm
ESPN have an hour pre-game
In the 75th minute or so.
Excellente!
I did see that
I do hate the managers talking about other players that don't belong to them!!
I may have a chance to go see United vs the MLS All-Stars!
That sounds great - I'm sorry that we missed the opportunity to go to Foxboro the other night. They looked excellent. I completely spaced it.
Liverpool also looked a bit crap - they conceded three to a Malaysian pick-up side!
It's all winding down for Colombia now.
There it is - the Peruvian coach looks a bit pissed off. Peru into the semis!
All of these matches are in Argentina, correct?
Is the Argentina match at River Plate Stadium?
I wonder how long it will take River to get promoted? Can they do it one year or does it take a couple like it did to be relegated
PERU HAVE WON!
We can't afford to go to it but a friend sent me a text yesterday to say that he has connection and maybe able to get tickets
Next up - it's the hosts Argentina v. Uruguay. The Argentinian manager has kept the faith with the side that crushed Costa Rica in the last match, which means that Cambiasso, Lavezzi and Tevez all start on the bench.
The match tonight is in Santa Fe. Here's the team news:
Argentina: Romero, Zanetti, G. Milito, Burdisso, Zabaleta, Masch, Aguero, Messi, Gago, DiMaria, Higuain.
Subs: Carrizo, Andujar, Pareja, Garay, Rojo, Cambiasso, Biglia, Pastore, Banega, D. Milito, Lavezzi, Tevez.
Uruguay: Muslera, Lugano, Pereira, Victorino, Cacares, Perez, Pereira, Gonzalez, Arevalo, Forlan, Suarez.
Subs: Castillo, Silva, Scotti, Coates, Vazquez, Rodriguez, Gargano, Lodeiro, Hernandez.
Here's a link for ITV coverage of the match:

I hope you get to go to the match.
Gus Poyet and Ricky Villa in the studio!
And Ossie!
Ossie and Ricky are defending Messi's record.
Good afternoon BD and UWS!I was out washing the car and missed what seemed like an exciting end to the last match. It was 0-0 when I went outside.
They've wheeled out an old crooner for the anthems tonight.
Evening, MUR! How are you?
I have not been chatting because I had been without Internet on my desktop for about ten days. AT&T couldn't solve the problem , but the neighbor kid did in about twenty minutes, so MUR is back and in full working order :) !!!
I am great. The girls are at summer camp and my wife is shopping with a friend, So I am alone with the pets. Unfortunately, Sparky is a little under the weather.
Interestingly, both sides are wearing away kits tonight - I suppose there is a lot of sky blue to go round but why not let Argentina wear the blue and white and have Uruguay go with a kit that doesn't clash?
How have you been , BD?
Sorry to hear about Sparky. How did the trip to Dallas end up?
It's been a brilliant summer for me with a new bike and several exciting projects going on. Couldn't be better, mate.
I agree ,BD. They are the host nation, or they may want to sell some more away shirts.
The assumption is that Argentina got it right in the third match but could it have merely been that Costa Rica are rubbish?
Thanks , BD, He is on medication. The girls took the bus to summer camp on Sunday, then we headed home.
The match is underway.
My ITV link is four seconds behind the action on the telly.
An ear;y Argentine attack ends with a shot deflected to the keeper.
Argentina straight into the attack then.
An errant pass from Messi is straight to Muslera.
Uruguay's enforcer Perez gets an early yellow for a really nasty two footed lunge. I reckon that would have been red later in the match.
When I was without Internet, I had to take my laptop to Starbucks to stay current with any information relating to football.
You never really understand how reliant on the Internet you are until it's taken away.
I am watching the match on Univision.
Forlan has a chance to float a free kick in here....
GOAL! Diego Perez!
Sensational free kick there and helped on by Alvaro. When it was tipped out by the keeper, the defender Perez was on hand to nick it just over the line.
1-0 Uruguay!
GOAL!!! 1-0 URUGUAY AS DIEGO PEREZ'S SHOT JUST CROSSES THE LINE AS SLID HOME TO NOTCH IN A REBOUND FROM A HEADER SAVED BY THE KEEPER OFF THE FREE KICK.
That's exactly what this match needed, you know. I was worried that after an initial burst at the start, the game might go into a lull unless there were a goal. There it is.
You are correct,BD. Everything is geared toward us being reliant on the Internet.
Zabaletta is deservedly booked for a rash challenge.
It's pretty hot here tonight - 82F. I can only imagine how hot you lot are today in Harlingen.
This stadium is nicknamed "The Elephant's Graveyard." One wonders if that might refer to the Argentinian side tonight?
The highs have been in the 90's and lows in the mid to upper 70's - About average for July. It is cooler than Dallas.
I haven't been at all convinced by the young playmaker Gago in this tournament.
Yes - it sounds as if Dallas was like living in a sauna.
That could be the case as Argentina would be embarrassed to exit the competition as the host nation.
Sterling defending so far from the typically reliable Lugano.
It was, even at 5:30 in the morning.
Di Maria felt the force of his hard, but fair challenge.
Yes - this would be a disaster for the new manager to go out after two below par performances in the group stage and then knocked out by a rival in the quarters.
I thought that was a decent challenge from Rios there but it's penalized. Messi over the free kick...
Comes to nothing
I agree, Gago went down rather easily.
Oh - great run from Aguero but he just ran out of space.
Great turn by Kuhn Aguero, but Rios Made a great challenge as he was about to cross.
It looks as if Victorino might have a problem - that's a shame as he's just back from illness. He's a force at the back for Uruguay.
Uruguay springing the traps as soon as they dispossess the Argies.
GOAL! Argentina level through Higuain!
1-1!
It was Messi again the provider. He collected the ball out wide left, jinked inside and found Higuain with a sumptuous cross.
GOAL!!! 1-1 as HIGUAIN SCORES WITH A HEADER IN THE CORNER OFF A GREAT CROSS FROM MESSI.HE WAS COMPLETELY UNMARKED.
A cracking game so far - just what the doctor ordered.
I wonder what Victorino's knock did for that goal. He's normally much tighter.
And now he's coming off to be replaced early on by Scotti. What a shame.
Uruguay is about to make a substitution as Scotti comes on for Victorino, who seemed to have picked up a knock.
I watched the Scousesox beat some sort of Malaysian all star team 6-3 earlier today.
Me too - not exactly convincing from the Scousesox back four but Aquilani looked tasty.
Half way through the first half and this one is delicately poised.
It seems like a cracker.King Kenny was not on the bench. Ngog finally looked like a superstar, but look at the opposition.
The Argentinian fans have learned bad lessons from the Mexicans. They're Oleing the passage of play at 1-1. You only do that when you're 3-0 up.
Higuain and Baptista wanted a penalty. I guess they had a case as the defender had was climbing on Higuain. Argentina earn a corner after a great tackle on Messi.
Exactly - Arsenal had beaten the same side 4-0 in midweek.
They should not do that as that will make their rivals from across the River Plate more determined to do well.
Chelski play these so called footballers on Wednesday. They did have a few players that showed some skill, so I should not be too harsh.
Diego Perez fouls Messi just outside the box.
Messi now over a free kick...
GOAL! Higuain again...no it's ruled out.
Ruled offside and the linesman got it right.
The header from Higuain is disallowed despite a great free kick from Messi.
The Uruguayan defenders really having trouble hanging on to Messi now. Cacares picks up a yellow.
And not it's Gabby Milito into the book. Ref not taking any prisoners.
Gonzales is booked for a foul on Gabriel Milito.
Sorry that was Alvaro Gonzalez into the book for Uruguay. They're starting to rack up the yellows. Could be a factor later on.
I think both were booked.
Nasty again for the goalscorer Perez. He's already been booked and could end up with a goal and an early bath if he isn't careful.
I think it could . Will both sides finish with eleven players on the pitch?
Oh - it's in the net again. But ruled out again. Again, it was a tantalizing free kick in from Forlan. But I think it was his buddy Suarez who was ruled offside.
Now Uruguay have a goal called back for offside as the free kick from Forlan was headed on to the bar , then blocked before the rebound was put away.
That Scousesox player! He missed the Malaysia trip for this.LOL
There it is - Diego Perez is off!
Uruguay down to ten men.
Suarez is fouled. The bicycle kick off the free is blocked and Perez could be taking an early bath .He does, just as BD predicted. I think the ref made the correct decision. He had no other alternative.
Crazy stuff from Perez - he's really let his side down.
Another free kick for Argentina now.
Comes to nothing.
I agree. Great work ,BD. Your prediction was spot. You predicted that Perez was heading for an early bath due to his rash challenges.
Hey Guys,
I am back after more errands and dinner
Still 1-1?
Just putting on your link now
It will be an uphill battle for Uruguay as their best bet may be to play for penalties.
To be fair - I didn't really have to have psychic powers to predict that Perez would go. He had been blundering around like a bull in a china shop for most of the half.
Good evening , UWS. great to chat with you. This is a really entertaining match.
Free kick for Uruguay now - it's gotten really chippy out there.
Dangerous ball in there cleared away by Milito.
The free kick from Forlan creates havoc as Scotti blasts wide.
Your link isn't working
Oh - Lugano off the crossbar from a header!
Nearly 2-1 to the ten men as Forlan's corner was cleared, but he crossed back in and Scotti's header came off the top of the bar and went over.
It's the second link on Atdhe.net. Still working for me. It might have been clipped in the text box.
We are into stoppage time as it is still 1-1.
I have an ESPN link going
Alright then - see if I care, Mr. Snotty.
Lugano shoots wide off the free kick. He has more chances than anyone else.
It is 1-1 at halftime.
The Uruguayans aren't happy with the referee as they troop off the pitch but they can't really have any complaints. They just have struggled to live with the Argentinian front line.
Great opening half 1-1.
half time
THe Uris aren't happy
Now my link has gone walkabout
My link has Ossie, Ricky Villa and Gus Poyet in the studio. Who's on ESPN, UWS? Tommy Smyth?
there are no footy links on atdhe
Are too!
http://atdhe.ws/
I have the ESPN link going
What a nasty tackle on Masch in the first few minutes... should have been off!
There is no half time studio stuff so far
atdhe.ws/
Is that something new?
It's what I got when I Googled Adthe. Pull your finger out, mate!
It was atdhe.net and then atdhe.me and now it atdhe.ws!!!!
The me still works but no sports
Maybe they're switching the URLs to keep ahead of the Net coppers?
Right, the teams are back out for the second half now. We're about to get underway again.
Why are both teams have a changed strip?
Oh dear - the Brazil v. Paraguay quarterfinal is on at the same time as the Women's final!
I mentioned that earlier, mate. I suppose that both wear sky blue in their home and away strip. Surely Uruguay have one that wouldn't clash with the Argentinian home kit, though?
That was a really long interval - nearly twenty minutes by my reckoning.
Still waiting for kick off... get a move on!
FINALLY!!!
I noticed that there is a conflict tomorrow . It will be busy day between the Women's World Cup Final and Copa America.
The second half is underway. The interval was so long that I had enough time to eat dinner.
Well done, MUR!
Burdisso fouls Suarez and a Poor Forlan free kick is easily cleared.
Thanks, BD. I ate Salmon, asparagus, and pasta.
Sounds good - I had a bit of leftover catfish and jambalaya.
That sounds like a delicious Cajun dinner.
Thanks - I like doing it. It particularly impresses the Yankees up here.
Now it's Mascherano into the book. I'm surprised it took that long!
He could have gone in earlier for the lunge on Forlan.
DiMaria down in a heap now. Lugano clashed with him. More of the same from the first half. Gus Poyet was not happy with the Uruguayan thuggishness.
Kuhn Aguero heads wide off of a great cross.
Oh - decent half chance for Aguero there. He's a wee lad but he got a decent header on it.
Old geezer Zanetti there with a couple of good tackles.
Sorry, but those of those dinners sounded disgusting!!
I had some lovely London Broil off the grill and some spicy sausages
They did show last summer that they can play attractive football after years of negative and cynical play.
I've just scheduled you for a colonoscopy, UWS. ;-p
I enjoyed my dinner.Your dinner sounded like a delicious.
I'm surprised by the lack of ambition from Argentina so far in this half. They've got a man advantage.
What time is the Becks vs Ronaldo clash?
I was thinking , as delicious as that sounds, that it was not good for cholesterol levels.
MUR, did you see I may be doing a David Goldstein of last year and go see United hammer the MLS All-Stars!
There's a streaker on the pitch. I miss the days when they showed them.
One of my favorites was a buxom young woman who came on and ran straight into the net.
Did you see that Owen Hargreaves my have a go with WBA?
Should United have let him go?
Well done Dave, I hope you go? Did you get to go to Foxboro and watch United hammer the Revs?
The Galaxy v. Real match is on at 10 pm EST. I think it's on FSC, no?
I thought Hargreaves retired. If he is on our books we need to let him go ASAP!
Zabaleta with an ambitious effort from an acute angle.
Owen Hargreaves - who's he? ;-)
Well held Muslera from Messi.
World Football Challenge
America v Man City 8 pm
LA Galaxy v Real Madrid 10 pm
I don't see the Citeh match on any where but the clash of the Old United 7s is ESPN 2
Wonder what happened with FSC losing all rights to these friendlies. They used to show them all
It is on ESPN 2. That stupid Scouse match will be aired for the third time today on FSC at 10 PM.
I don't think America vs Man City is being televised.
No we didn't go to the one in Foxboro.
I wasn't going to go to this one either but these tickets may have fallen in my lap!
As for Hargreaves, we released him and he put on some fitness videos on Youtube showing him working out
WBA are interested. I think Sven and Leicester was too... how about a go at Elland Road?
I thought that the Club America v. Citeh match was on earlier today?
Bob,
Have you email Todd Richardello again?
We have sent a couple of emails back and forth
No thanks - but we'd have a bit of Nani cake, please.
He worked harder on the fitness videos than he did at OT. He was always injured when at United.
Soccernet says 8 pm
Yeah - I have. He said he'd check out the LOB and let me know if he was interested in joining in. It's amazing how many old friends are out there.
Citeh are playing Seattle on Monday evening and that one is being televised.
