Morning, chaps - I'm back at a little after 7am EST with my breakies. The temperature has dropped precipitously overnight to the low 40sF here in Western NY, so the coffee is vital this morning.
I'm still a wee bit unhappy that they've moved these derby matches off the traditional special days such as Boxing Day or Easter Monday. But here it is and I'm going to enjoy it thoroughly.
Good Morning BD. How have you been? I agree that those matches should be played on Boxing Day.I have been up for an hour already.
Here are the teams for today's tasty clash:
Liverpool: Reina, Kelly, Carragher, Skrtel, Jose Enrique, Kuyt, Lucas, Adam, Downing, Suarez, Carroll.
Subs: Doni, Gerrard, Henderson, Coates, Spearing, Flanagan, Bellamy.
Everton: Howard, Hibbert, Jagielka, Distin, Baines, Coleman,
Fellaini, Rodwell, Osman, Cahill, Saha.
Subs: Mucha, Bilyaletdinov, Drenthe, Stracqualursi, Neville, Barkley, Vellios.
Referee: Martin Atkinson (W Yorkshire)
Wow - morning, MUR! Great to have you on board. I've been really good actually. Work has been brilliant and my mom's improving every day. Thanks!
How about you and the family?
That is wonderful news! I have been sick since Wednesday so I go to bed early and wake up early. I finally went to the doctor yesterday and am now taking medication. He told me that I have an infection due to a high white blood cell count.I took a cough syrup a few minutes ago that may make me fell drowsy. I am okay right now. Elizabeth went to the gynecologist and was told that she will need a hysterectomy.Despite that the family is doing well. The girls are well.
NFL live is about to end and then it is off to Merseyside.
Sorry to hear that, mate, particularly for Elizabeth's sake. Karen went through the same thing a few year's back. I wish her the best. And I'm sure you'll recover soon enough. Take care of yourselves.
The Merseyside side Derby is a feisty, bad tempered under the best of circumstances. Nineteen red cards in nineteen meetings.Everton have a couple of former Man Yoo playe3rs to add fuel to the fire.
Way hay - the coverage on ESPN2 has started and it looks like a beautiful day on Merseyside.
As usual it's Ian Darke chewing his words alongside Liverpool legend Steve McManaman.
Thank you,BD. I have not been to work since Wednesday, but I just perspired quite a bit so that should help.I am really excited that your mother is doing much better
I'm glad that you got straight into the doctor to help yourself out, mate. The Gooner had something similar a few years back and he dawdled on it and it got bronchial on him and he ended up in hospital getting his lungs drained out. Take care of that, pronto.
Thanks, mate. Mom was sounding a lot perkier yesterday when I spoke with her. She's in a rehabilitation center now and looking forward to getting back to the apartment in the next few weeks.
Correct. That is a tradition in early Saturday matches. I expect a usual, bad tempered match. I wonder if Someone Said will join us. This is a huge match for him.
Excellent! I am sure she will be excited to come home!
I hope we will hear from Someone. He often does join us for the big matches for the Toffees.
I have to root for Pool and my Golden Boot boy Luis Suarez this morning. He's on three goals so far and has a lot of territory to make up on Rooney and Aguerro.
Sounds a little nippy in Fred Town.
I will cheer for the Toffees. It is my duty as a Man Yoo fan.
I picked Bolton for the quiz question. Eric Cantona sounds just about right for the other question.
It really is - 48F right now and drizzling outside. I've pulled the space heater out of the closet to keep me cosey this morning.
The air was running when I woke up this morning . We are supposed to have a front come through today with highs tomorrow in the upper 80s. Not bad compared to what it has been.
It's kind of a shame that you have so few actual Scousers on either side today. It was always special to have people like Macca out of the stands and onto the pitch. Carradona and Stevie G. are the last of that tradition probably.
Have you had any rain recently? I know you've been through a terrible drought.
I am wondering if some of the Everton youngsters are Scousers, such as Rodwell, Hibbert, and Barkley. Liversox may have some in Kelly and Spearing, but it's much less than before.
It rained twice, but both were minimal amounts. Not enough to really help.
Luis Saha is back in the reckoning after his strop with the manager. It looks like a pretty conservative line-up for the Toffees today.
Half of Liversox's team are making their Derby Debuts. They will know about this Derby by the end of the match.
I am surprised to see the Neviller on the bench.
Ian and Steve say that it is unseasonably hot today in England. Perhaps the hottest October day.
I'm doing some research on that:
Jack Rodwell - born in Southport.
Tony Hibbert - born in Liverpool.
Ross Barkley - born in Liverpool.
So, you're right on two of those three.
The match kicks off from Goodison Park.
And we're off - fabulous!
Tony Hibbert concedes an early free kick in true fashion for him, but Liversox take it short.
Jay Spearing - born in Wallasey
Martin Kelly - born in Whiston.
Both part of Merseyside. Spot on, mate. I feel better about tradition now.
Fellani volleys wide after some head tennis in the Liversox box.It was deflected and resulted in a corner.
Everton have an early corner here.
Baines in and Reina bobbled it a bit.
Timmy catches the corner in a crowd.
Glad to hear that. The Socusers have committed the early fouls.
I love to see King Kenny trying Carroll alongside Suarez. I reckon they could be a devastating partnership if they're given a chance to gel. And I like Carroll a lot - he's a bright prospect for England IMHO.
Cahill fouls Caradonna and the Liversox veteran has plenty to say. They have clashed in previous Merseyside Derbies.
I agree. They could terrorize EPL defenses.
Any thoughts about the big talking point from the week - Carlos Tevez refusing to play for Citeh?
Oh - Suarez played a great ball out to Downing but when he looked for the return Downing pinged it too heavily.
great work by Downing and Suarez, but an Everton defender makes a last ditch clearance.
I think Citeh should try to get rid of Tev in the January transfer window. He is a disruptive influence on the team.
Oh - Suarez should have scored there. A header straight at Timmy.
And down the other end, Reina tips over from Cahill. End to end!
How did Suarez miss that ? he headed straight to Timmy from close range then Reina tipped over a header from Cahill.
It was a shocking clearance from Jags.
I agree - I'd even be tempted to sack him straight away and sue him for breach of contract. They can afford to eat the transfer fee.
Wow - a bit of magic there from Distin but then he bent it over the bar.
Distin has a shot tipped over by Reina as he dummmies a Liversox defender after Evertom maintained pressure from the corner.
I agree. Tev has violated his contract. They should let him go.
Mostly Liverpool possession now.
Decent skimming drive there from Saha.
Some great skill by Saha as he turns a Liversox defender and shoots inches wide from a narrow angle. Everton are displaying everything from their bag of tricks.
How is it possible that Kenny Dalglish is 60!?
It just doesn't seem possible!
Liversox block two shots from Everton's fifth corner.
WOW! Another big one in two weeks as Man Yoo play Liversox. That is as big as the Merseyside Derby.
Can't wait for that one!
Wow - Rodwell is straight off! He did go in on Suarez.
WOW! Rodwell receives a straight red for the challenge on Suarez. Charlie Adam does not need to get involved.I thought that was harsh. A yellow, IMHO.
That seems very harsh on the young lad starting in his first derby.
Suarez made a meal out of that to get Rodwell sent off. I hate when players do that.
Macca did say that Martin Atkinson has been card happy so far this season. And so he has been now.
Hey Boys
I am here just as Rodwell is off.... NEVER A RED!!
There goes this match
I am going to have to leave in a few minutes. I have to be a good parent and help out with a car wash in the pouring rain!
I agree - that's shocking behavior from my Golden Boot boy.
I was wondering if both sides would finish with eleven. That just answers that question.
Morning, mate! Sorry to lose you for this one. Will you be back for the later matches?
Congrats MUR for getting the trivia question correct. Did you cheat?
Good morning, UWS. I wish you well at the car wash. I agree that it was never a red.
Sadly, I have to go
I'll be back later
Cheers, UWS! I did not cheat. I guessed and was lucky!
So it was Bolton, eh? Well done, MUR!
Thanks. BD.
Another card coming out here - Cahill into the book.
The atmosphere in Goodison is white hot now.
Cahill was booked for an innocuous challenge on Carradonna.Martin Atkinson seems to be the wrong ref for this match.
It's a great atmosphere!
Tempers may flare over as it is a really warm day. They would flare even on a cool day.
Everton fans derisively cheer a decision made in their favor.
Timmy easily catches a cross from Kuyyt.
Will more players be sent off?
Pool should be taking more advantage of a man difference now. There's no need to knock balls aimlessly into the box.
Great tackle by Jags on Suarez.
I agree. They can wear down this Everton side, especially in this heat.
Fellani is called for a foul just outside the box.
Horrible free kick by Charlie Adam into the wall.
Everton fans cheer as Suarez fails to gather the long ball.
Everton fans are baying for blood as Charlie Adam goes in on Cahill.
Ironic cheers as Charlie Adam is called for a foul in midfield. Was that any different than Rodwell's challenge.
I am not sure what to make of Timmy's army jersey.
This one looks and smells like a draw to me.
That is an unusual look for Timmy. Must be special order.
Suarez goes down under Jag's challenge and it's a penalty. Terrible decision by Jags there. Suarez was going nowhere.
LIVERSOX HAVE A PENALTY. THE CORRECT DECISION AS JAGS FOULS SUAREZ IN THE BOX.
I was hoping that Suarez would take it but it's Dirk Kuyt instead.
Saved Timmy! Wow!
Great save there by Timmy and the crowd are chanting USA, USA, USA.
I CAN'T BELIEVE IT. A POOR KUYYT PENALTY IS TIPPED AROUND THE POST BY TIMMY.
Everton fans definitely not in love with Luis Suarez now.
Three minutes of stoppage time as Everton are somehow drawing this match.
Great stuff - the camera picks out one Everton shirted friend giving another wearing Liverpool red the business after that pen.
A fantastic picture!
The main talking points in the fist half have been the harsh red on young Rodwell and the missed penalty by Kuyyt.
Liverpool have one more chance from a free kick now.
Oh - off the bar and out from Adam. That was a cracker!
As I was typing, a Liversox shot came off the bar.
The whistle goes and ends a terrific half of derby footie. I'm off to get another cuppa and fire up the space heater.
Halftime and still 0-0. It should be an exciting second half.
I want a hat-trick from Suarez in this second half. I wouldn't mind a goal from Carroll as well. I don't fault him for being quiet. I just think Pool players were lumping hopeful balls in his general direction.
Suarez goes to ground theatrically again at the start of this second half and he's not intent on making friends today, is he?
Macca showing some impressive knowledge of baseball lore there.
Another rugged challenge from Cahill there and I wouldn't be surprised if he went off for a second yellow at some point.
Lucas gets the latest yellow card from referee Atkinson and the crowd enjoys it.
I'm not quite sure what Hair Bear was thinking with that rugby tackle.
Oh - that was a great header from Carroll from the corner by Adam but no one was there to bundle it home.
And again Carroll gets his head onto the corner. He's done better so far in this half. Corner again.
Great by Timmy from an Andy Carroll header.
I ma back after a short nap.
I'd have Lucas off and either Gerrard or Bellamy on in a moment.
Oh - Kuyt just wide there!
Welcome back, mate. I really appreciate your dogged commitment to the blogging today. Please feel free to rest and take care of yourself.
I agree . As I type Lucas shoots well wide He has been ineffective as Liversox have failed to take advantage of the extra man.
Thanks BD. I really want to do this.
Coleman has made way for Drenthe, who looked lively against Citeh last weekend.
Drenthe is on for Seamus Coleman.
And the Dutchman is straight into the action, picking up a free kick after a good turn and run.
I do feel better. I am not nearly as congested as I was earlier.
Oh - decent shot from Saha as the defenders were backing away. Reina's not best pleased.
Just wide as Saha shoots just wide from long range with a decent effort. You wouldn't know that Everton are a man down.
Macca wants to see a bit of Stevie G.
I think this would be a good time to introduce Stevie G.
I think young Flanagan on the Liversox bench, is another Scouser.
Gerrard and Bellamy up off the bench and preparing to come on now. Good move, Kenny.
Just what the doctor ordered! Stevie G is about to come on. He is no stranger to this fixture.
Ian Darke is not a big Andy Carroll fan. I feel for the guy. You saw with that latest pass into the box that it was hopeless. How is he supposed to do anything without the service.
Adam and Downing off.
Stevie G is on for Charlie Adam and Bellamy is on for Downing. I would have taken off Lucas instead of Adam.
Great free kick in there but Suarez balloons his header over the bar. Gerrard will provide the service now.
Suarez heads well over from a free kick taken by Stevie G.
The Little Neviller is coming on for Osman. Defensive move.
The Neviller is on for Leon Osman. The Neviller will provide more with for crosses and is a more defensive player.
As Ian Darke stated, Timmy seems to be the primary candidate for MOTM.
GOAL! Andy Carroll scores in the Merseyside Derby!
1-0 Pool!
GOAL !!! ANDY CARROLL SCORES HIS FIRST OF THE SEASON WITH A GREAT FINISH.
Bellamy really created that with a driving run and pass to Luis Enrique. Great ball over, Kuyt dummied under it and Carroll finished well with his left peg.
Cahill shoots right at Reina.
That goal will quieten some the Carroll critics tonight. Great goal for the kid. Everton have a hole to dig out of now.
I thought it was Bellamy, but I wasn't sure. It was a superb run down the left. An inspired substitution by Kenny.
Everton drop out of the top half whilst Liverpool are up to 4th level on points with Chelski.
It will be tough for Everton to come back as they are down a player.
Ah - Suarez was free in the area but Carroll wasn't able to find him. That partnership isn't gelling quite yet.
Liversox broke down the left by Carroll , but he failed to find Suarez.
Everton need to spruce up the attack now. Perhaps Velios could come on.
The fans are so close to the touchline, I occasionally lose the players from the crowd on the side. I wonder if the players have that trouble too.
Here comes the young Greek....
It's tough to say. I don't see Everton scoring. Young Velios will have a tough time scoring as he comes on for Hibbert.
The proximity to the touchline makes for a great atmosphere at Goodison Park.
GOAL! Yes! My boy Suarez gets a cheap one.
2-0!
GOAL 2-0 AS BOB'S BOY TAKES ADVANTAGE OF SOME COMICAL DEFENDING BY DISTIN.
Terrible mistake there by Silvain Distin trying to clear it but giving it straight to Suarez and he finished it easily past Timmy. Suarez's 4th goal of the season.
That should settle this match.
Just high and wide by Saha from a great position.
Moyesy shaking his head ruefully. Not his best day on Merseyside.
A little under ten minutes left but this one is dead and buried now.
Pool now at +2 GD; Chelski on +5 GD.
Jags refuses to shake hands with Suarez after a foul.
Baines shoots wide with a desperate effort from long range.
I reckon Liverpool are good value for the win here. Everton never really showed much ambition today.
Jordan Henderson about to come on.
That is unsporting behavior from Jags. I expect better from him.
Timmy punches away for a corner as their defenders fail to clear again.
Lucas is trotting off now. Timmy is livid after being fouled by Carroll and knocking into a post.
Jordan Henderson is on for Lucas. I agree that Liverpool deserve their win. I wonder if Everton's tactics were due to the fact that they played a man down most of the match.
Oh - Gerrard nearly on target, deflected out again. Some debris being thrown at Bellamy now. Bad form from the Toffees fans.
Just over by Andy Carroll.
I agree. This derby really is becoming extra bad tempered.
Into stoppage time now.
Three minutes of stoppage time, but this one has been done and dusted for a while.
This is disgraceful as more debris is thrown by Toffees fans. This time at Suarez as he takes the corner.
Oh - Everton went to sleep at that corner and a cheeky chip from Suarez to Kuyt nearly pays off. Off the post!
Drenthe goes down, but Atkinson is not impressed. Toffees fans not happy.
That's it - Everton fans boo the match but Pool won't care. It's three well won points that shoot them into the top four.
Liversox win 0-2 at Goodison in the Merseyside Derby. A deserved win.
If Newcastle win today they will move ahead of Liversox into fourth.
I'm over onto FSC now with the build-up to United v. Norwich at 10am EST.
I'm onto My Premium TV for Soccer Saturday. It seems to be working well. Choose the Sky Sports News link on the page.
http://www.mypremium.tv/
The team news out of Old Trafford today:
Man Utd: Lindegaard, Valencia, Jones, Evans, Evra, Park, Fletcher, Anderson, Nani, Rooney, Hernandez.
Subs: De Gea, Ferdinand, Owen, Berbatov, Giggs, Carrick, Welbeck.
Norwich: Ruddy, Naughton, Russell Martin, Barnett, Tierney, Bennett, Hoolahan, Fox, Pilkington, Morison, Johnson.
Subs: Rudd, Drury, Crofts, Holt, Jackson, Surman, Chris Martin.
Referee: Stuart Attwell (Warwickshire)
I've got my eye firmly on the Championship and Leeds kicking off in a moment against Pompey. MOT!
I'm on FSC too. I expect nothing less than a comfortable win by United today.
That will be a big match as your whites take on Dave's Pompey.
United kick off toward the Stretford End - they obviously lost the toss to the Canaries.
I expect the same for United today.
My mistake - United will be attacking the Stretford End in the second half as they prefer.
Roon shoots straight at Ruddy.
The Leeds line-up against Pompey:
Lonergan, Connolly, Lees, O'Dea, White, Snoddy, Howson, Clayton, Pugh, McCormack, Keogh.
Subs: Rachubka, Vayrynen, Becchio, Forssell, Bromby.
A few nervous moments for the United defense in the early stages.
Norwich win an early corner and Merse yelled goal.West Brom take the lead at the SOL as James Morrison scores with a header.
It's noticeable that there's no room for Ramon Nunez (aka Yorkshire Nani) in the team today. He's in an on-going feud with Grayson these days.
Bloody hell - the Baggies are not one but two up already at the Stadium of Light.
Super K is at Villa Park. as West Brom now lead 0-2 at the SOL thanks to a great finish by Shane Long. Two in a matter of minutes.
Preston now lead 0-2 at Orient.Crawley have taken the lead vs Plymouth off a long throw. Sorry Bob.
Shane Long has done really well for the Baggies - that his third or fourth of the season so far.
I am not happy with Man Yoo's start
