The Final Countdown!
It's the last day of qualifiers and, while, many of the group winners have been sorted, there are several key matches to follow this afternoon. I'll be teaching, so I'll only be able to pop in now and again during breaks in my classes, but I'll look forward to reading your comments throughout the afternoon.

I am here for a while
Not good news for Scotland so far
They need to match the Czech Repbulic's result BUT
Spain 1 Scotland 0.. no surprise
Lithuania 0 Czech Rep 2
Rep of Ire need only a draw and are winning 2-1. They took a two goal lead but concede almost immediately after scoring their second
Italy 1 NoI 0... doesn't matter
Portugal losing to Denmark 1-0. The Danes would win the group if the score stays the same. Norway are winning 2-1 against Cyprus. They would tie Portugal on points but need something like a 9 goal swing
Greece qualified earlier today They won 2-1 in Georgia
Only about 15 minutes to go in Dublin... they're almost in the play offs.... Russia are going to win the group. They are five up against Andorra
Kevin Doyle gets a yellow and will miss the first game of the play offs
Wales are all over Bulgaria away but only 1-0 up
Montenegro are drawing in Switzerland... again.. doesn't matter
Bugger... just lost my Soccer Special link
France are still drawing with Bosnia at home.. does that one matter?
Armenia are on top in Dublin despite being down a man
They still need two goals to knock out Ireland
Doyle now gets a red... now their down to ten men as well and he is out of the playoffs
Still 10 to go
It was a second yellow
I back from picking up Matt
Rep of Ireland have beaten Armenia 2-1
They are in the play offs
More scores
Bosnia have take the lead in France!
They would top the group!
Portugal are losing 2-0 to Denmark
The Danes would be group winners
THe match in France is only at the half
Norway are 3-1 up
That is a swing of 4 goals.. the Norwegians need more goals
Dzeko was the goalscorer for Bosnia
Sweden are beating Holland 3-2
Friday's worries were for nothing!!
Switzerland 2 Montenegro 0
They were too busy celebrating after making the playoffs after the 2-2 draw
The Czech's are three up in Lithuania
Spain are two up against the Spain
For the second half
Former Scotland boss Alex McLeish on BBC Two"Scotland need an absolute miracle. They've worked really hard but they don't have a player that can make a difference and Spain have an abundance of them."
2047: Anyone for an upset? Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko has given Bosnia-Hercegovina a 1-0 lead against France in Paris, in what is effectively a shootout for top spot in Group D. Who fancies France versus Republic of Ireland in the play-offs if that score stays the same? Would be tasty, wouldn't it?
Wales have beaten Bulgaria for the their 3rd win out 4
THey will finish in fourth because of Switzerland's score
Uh oh... Spain take a three goal lead against the Scots
Wales have beaten Bulgaria for the their 3rd win out 4
THey will finish in fourth because of Switzerland's score
Uh oh... Spain take a three goal lead against the Scots
Looks like each game in a particular group are being played at the same time
Italy have doubled their lead against the Ulstermen
Norway and Sweden need to get some goals to knock out the Portuguese!!
Scotland get a penalty and convert thru Goodwillie
He almost gets a second close after
Still 3-1
Italy are 3 up against NoI
Denmark have beaten Portugal 2-1 and win the group.
Portugal are in the play offs on goal difference from Norway
Sweden have beaten Holland 3-2. That scores stops Holland's 100% record AND they qualify as the best runner-up
Lithuania get a goal back against the Czechs
Scotland are out
The Czech Rep have won 4-1 and the Scots lose 3-1 to Spain
2137: A HUGE goal in Group D, where France have levelled against Bosnia-Herzegovina thanks to Samir Nasri's penalty with 12 minutes to go. If the score stays the same, the French will progress as group winners.
BBC Radio 5 live's Nigel Adderley in Sofia on Twitter: "Bulgarian coach having a massive rant in the press conference. Sadly, we don't have a translator..."
The French match is the only one still going
2142: Nemanja Vidic can put his feet up next summer as Serbia fail to beat Slovenia, meaning that Estonia nick the play-off spot in Group C behind group winners Italy. It wasn't a good night for the Manchester United defender, as he missed a second half penalty. That means the only undecided issue is in Group B, where Bosnia need a goal. Badly.
Ian Dowie is being 'interviewed' on Soccer Special about the NoI job
Dowie wants the job
Craig Brown is saying he would be a great choice
Did he play for Nor Ire? I thought he played for the Welsh? Dunno
Back to Vidic... what on earth was he taking a penalty!!
ALSO... IS HE FIT??? He hasn't played for United since the opening game of the season!
The match in Paris has finished all square
France are through as winners and Bosnia are runners-up
So much for a France and Ireland rematch
2154: Right then, that was the qualifying campaign for Euro 2012. Twelve teams are now in the finals: Ukraine (co-hosts), Poland (co-hosts), Germany (Group A winners), Russia (B), Italy (C), France (D), Netherlands (E), Sweden (E best runners-up), Greece (F), England (G), Denmark (H) and Spain (I). Russia, Sweden, Denmark and Greece all sealed their places tonight.
2156: Eight nations will be in the draw for the play-offs, to take place at Thursday lunchtime. They are: Turkey (A), Republic of Ireland (B), Estonia (C), Bosnia-Herzegovina (D), Croatia (F), Montenegro (G), Portugal (H) and Czech Republic (I). Some good teams in the mix there. Only Montenegro were definitely in the play-offs before tonight, although Bosnia, Croatia and Portugal all knew they were guaranteed to finish in the top two
infostradaLive on Twitter: "Eight of the nine qualifying groups have been won by former European champions - England are the exception. The only former European champions that have not qualified yet are Czech Republic. They go to the playoffs."
Take care everyone
I am off to college and then Matt's night game
TTFN
Thanks for your comments, UWS. Poor old Scotland. They must have hoped that the Spanish would switch off tonight with nothing at stake. Far from it - they've been pummeled by the best side on the planet with goals from Davids Silva and Villa.
And the Czechs have come up trumps with a 1-4 win in Lithuania.
Well done the Irish, though. Fantastic effort here. They'll be part of the play-off draw on Thursday.
News today that the Irish will be seeded for the draw on Thursday
The four unseeded teams are
Turkey, Bosnia, Estonia and Montenegro
Also, I read that the first two pots for the Finals themselves are already set
Pot 1
Ukraine, Poland, Spain, Netherlands
Pot 2 Germany, Italy, England, Russia
In Pot 3 will be Greeece, Sweden and Denmark and the fourth team coming from the playoffs. If Croatia win, they will be in Pot 3
That would make Portugal and France in Pot 4... YIKES!!
The only way France can be in Pot 3is if Croatia and Portugal both lose
Thanks for adding that, Dave. I did see that this morning. I don't know on what basis the Irish are seeded ahead of Turkey (semi-finalists in WC 2002) but I like it nonetheless.
The draw is tomorrow.
