Lakenheath Old Boys
We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

No telly coverage of the early one today. Here's the link for it:

The line-ups out of the Bridge this morning:
Chelsea (4-3-3): Cech; Ivanovic, Cahill, David Luiz, Bertrand; Ramires, Mikel, Meireles; Sturridge, Torres, Mata. Subs: Hilario, Essien, Lampard, Drogba, Malouda, Bosingwa, Kalou.
Birmingham (4-5-1): Doyle; Carr, Davies, Ibanez, Murphy; Redmond, Mutch, Fahey, Gomis, Elliott; Rooney. Subs: Butland, Caldwell, Spector, Burke, Reilly, Asante, Jervis.
Referee: Martin Atkinson.
It's Brum's 43rd match of the season given their marathon Europa League season.
Interesting moment there between David Luiz and Torres - it appeared that Luiz was kissing his forehead for luck.
And Chelski get us underway in this vital Cup fixture.
Very quiet among the Chelski fans - all the noise is coming from the Brum away support. Tense atmosphere.
AVB already looks anxious, up off the bench gesticulating.
The veteran right back Stephen Carr is hacked by Bertrand and now he seems to have a problem. May have to come off for treatment.
Good Morning .
Neil Warnock new Leeds Manager .
Morning, Chelskilad! Is that official? Bad news for us then.
Yes - Stephen Carr is going to have to come off. Early substitution for Brum. Jonathan Spector coming on for him.
Hi Bob . That's what they just said on the radio . Sorry to have to tell
you that .
I've just visited the LUFC website to confirm the bad news. The Neil Warnock era has started at Leeds. Oh - the horror.
No worries, mate. How's your week been?
Feel for you mate .
Very quiet opening period here. Chelski just not clicking. Sturridge who was on fire earlier in the season just seems to be off his game at the moment.
Long and slow . In fact it is still going for another couple of hours .
Sounds like my week! Looking forward to a nice weekend, though. And Monday off.
GOAL! Brum take a shock lead from a set piece.
Sorry, mate.
Classic Championship level corner routine with a ball knocked to big lad on the front post, knocked on and David Murphy was on hand to slam home at the back stick.
0-1 Brum.
And now the Brum away support is chanting "Sacked in the morning" to AVB. That's hardly sporting.
Chelski have a penalty!
Ramires is chopped in the area. Definitely stone cold pen.
It's all going on here now.
Mata to take for a change....
Saved! Doyle with a tremendous save onto the post!
AVB must be cursing his luck here.
Mata, a natural left-footer, did somewhat telegraph that one to Doyle's right but it was still a good effort from the keeper.
Sturridge got a decent ball over for Torres but it was a great, strong challenge from the center back.
Halfway through the first half and the match has sprung to life finally.
Just had to serve some customers and sat down to find it is all going horribly wrong . Oh dear Oh dear .
Sorry, mate. It's a tough week coming up for the club.
The match seems to be petering out toward the end of the half. Lots of things to sort out in the dressing room for AVB. The initial plan is just not working.
Didier Drogba already warming up, giving us a sense of what's to come in the second half.
I had a feeling that this might happen. Brum are a decent Championship side and Chelski are just in rotten form.
Good morning BD. I just woke up and am here to join you for the second half.
Good Morning MUR .
Did you hear the news I gave to Bob ?
Drogba is on for Torres as he has not played since December . It's gone horribly wrong as Chelsea trail Brum 0-1.
Good morning Chelskilad. How have you been? I just read the comments. I am so sorry for Bob. That was his worst nightmare just come true.
Sorry about the score, Chelskilad.
The second half is underway.
There is something seriously wrong at Chelsea .
Morning, MUR - it is indeed very bad news for Leeds fans today. I'll be forced to refer to my beloved as "Evil Leeds" for what I hope will be a brief Warnockian Era.
It certainly does seem as if morale is low at Chelski. If AVB has lost the dressing room then I fear that he's for the chop.
I agree. I didn't see the first half , but they were awful at Goodison last week. If they sack AVB, then they run the risk of playing revolving manager. Would you like Hughton to be the Chelsea manager?
I am so sorry about the news , BD. It must be a really tough time. I was hoping for Lee Clark.
Chelsea just can't going. They are out of sorts.
Yeah - I was hoping for Clark as well.
I am here for you during this difficult time.
Looks as if AVB's not happy with the what he's seen since Drogba's come on. a mohawked Kalou is about to be introduced.
This Brum team must be going up . They are the in form team.
Cahill fouls Rooney and now Brum have a decent free kick chance.
Yellow card for Cahill.
I am delighted to have a three day weekend and the chance for extra rest.
The free kick is headed out by Cahill for a Brum corner.
Yeah - Brum or Cardiff along with probably the Hammers and Southhampton.
Teenage Nathan Redmond shoots over from the corner taken by Jordan Mutch.
Mohawk Kalou is on for Mikkel in his first match since December as Mikkel was out for eight weeks. He was so rusty that he couldn't be troubled to even commit a foul.
I guess that leaves Chelsea with one change remaining.
Decent take and shot from Mata - he's likely to be the spark if Chelski are to get back in this one.
Mata shoots wide from a great long ball. Chelsea's first chance of the half.
He's the one player that's been in consistently good form this season.
A decent better half for Lampard Sr.
GOAL! Great header from Sturridge levels it!
GOAL !!! 1-1 AS STURRIDGE HEADS IN A CROSS FROM IVANOVIC AFTER RECEIVING A PASS FROM MATA!
Simple stuff. Mata found Ivanovic wide right and the big man whipped a great ball in to Sturridge who nods home off the post.
1-1!
Thank goodness for that .
It should be an interesting final half hour.
Kalou heads wide as Chelsea start to create chances.
Chelski now have the momentum and a little under half an hour to finish this match off.
Curtis Dacvies is not happy with the antics of Drogba and Kalou. He believes they are diving.
Doyle punches away the Chelsea free kick.
Morning Boys
Another brilliant display by Chelsea!
Shame about the equalizer
Sorry about the Warnock Era beginning... why not the Huddersfield manager??
I still have FSC + so I have the match on the TV
Millwall v Bolton is on afterwards
Everton Blackpool is on FSC followed by Sunderland Arsenal
Hello David .
Morning, UWS - thanks for the condolences. Good to have you on board.
Pablo Ibanez clears for a corner as Drogba was let down by a poor first touch.Sveral blocked shots off the Chelsea corner as Chelsea start to dominate.
ESPN won't have a game for a few weeks.
They don't have the FA Cup rights and next week's game was supposed to be the Merseyside derby but it is is off because of LiverSox playing in the League Cup Final
Morning Bruv.
Good morning, UWS. I was thinking the same thing regarding Lee Clark. Do you have Winter Break this week?
I remember Macca complaining about that last week on the ESPN2 broadcast.
Morning MUR... YES I DO!!.... I AM LUVING IT!!!
You?
Jake Jervis, who has never played a league match for Brum , is an for Adam Rooney.
Of course, I still have to work at the college.
When college spring break comes along... I still have to work at the school!
Mireles has a shot deflected just over for another Chelsea corner.
Ah - Winter Break; I remember that fondly. It's the only thing that kept teachers from murdering the students in February. At least I've given myself Monday off.
I am off Monday for President's Day, but will be on Spring Break in three weeks.Hope you enjoy your week off.
Brum have ticked down the clock to under 15 minutes now. They'll be looking for a big pay-day replay at St. Andrew's now.
Didn't realize there is almost a full slate of games in the League apart from the Prem
I guess there will be a reason to watch SS... without the guys watching Exeter!!
Ditto for me, BD, but replace February with March.I don't remember us ever having a Winter Break at Lakenheath.
OH I WILL!!!
I think Leeds plays Donny at ER today. I believe it's every league except the EPL.
Link for SoccerSaturday
http://www.firstrowsports.eu/watch/108411/1/watch-soccer-saturday.html
Jordan Mutch has won himself a nice free kick opportunity now. They really need to take advantage of this.
Jordan Mutch is fouled by Mirles just outside the box. What was he thinking?
Thanks for the link, mate.
Cheers , UWS. Thanks for the link. Great save by Cech off the free kick for m Mutch.
Cech saves well from Mutch. Lamps is warming up now for a cameo performance.
About fifteen minutes remaining if you include stoppage time.
I think Lampard Sr. will be performing more this evening than Lampard Jr. will this match.
Shame about the news of Valencia's injury.
Out for a month.. why couldn't it have been Nani
The missus and I will be celebrating Valentines Day on Monday as I basically worked till 9:30 that day and the girls will be in school.
Glad for you guys having all these days off . I get tomorrow off !!!
He might join his Yorkshire namesake at ER. You just never know!
Hey - lay off my boy, Nani!
Celebrating a belated Valentine's Day tonight with my new galpal.
Shame about Pompey being docked 10 points again.. They're in the drop zone... is this a blessing for Forest?
I hope you enjoy it , Chelskilad. I always tell people that teaching is like sprinting a marathon instead of running or jogging it and without any stops. That is why we need the breaks.
Could be a let-off for Forest. What about Rangers? Can you imagine them going bust?
Mata off for Lamps. I would have taken Ramires off.
I can't believe Lampard isn't playing more
Why take off Mata though?
Chris Burke is on for Wade Elliott.Lampard is on for Mata. Like for like with both changes.
I don't understand that Chelsea change either. I think Lampard has had problems with injuries this year.
Have a good time tonight Bobby!!
As for Rangers, it is amazing that a team that has won 3 straight league titles could be in their position.
Of course, even with the 10 points taken away.. they're still in SECOND!
Chelski building up a bit of pressure now as we enter the last five minutes.
I don't think AVB is a fan of Lamps.
He scored the winner earlier in the season coming off the bench and he was ignored by the boss
Cheers, mate.
I read about Pompey. Sorry to hear about them entering administration. They were talking about deducting fifteen points, so ten is not as severe. They are no forced into a relegation dogfight along with Forest, Donny , and Coventry.
SS commenting about the Chelsea match.. THEY ACTUALLY ADMIT THE FA CUP EXISTS!!!
Useless attempt to win it for Brum!
Sorry Bob. Have a great time tonight.I am surprised to hear about Rangers.
Oh - Redmond had a chance to win it but he didn't have any confidence in his left foot. Walked around his right foot and side-footed tamely at Cech.
Seventeen year old Nathan Redmond should have won it for Brum as he had just Cech to beat and shot straight at the keeper.
It's looking like a replay at St. Andrews. The last thing either team needs as Brum are battling for promotion and Chelsea have their CL and EPL matches in addition to the replay.
Lamps has a good chance now from a free kick.
Dangerous free kick for Chelsea
Drogs?
Lamps?
Row Q please!
Free kick for Chelsea just outside the box.
Lamps hits the wall's shin
Lamps into the wall and that should be just about it. Into stoppage time now. Three minutes to come.
Into the wall by Lamps and the rebound is deflected to Sturridge who shoots over , but is flagged offside.
Just checked and Pompey are just outside the drop zone
David Luiz is booked for a body check as Brum were on a break.
Curtis Davies heads straight to Cech off the free kick from Jordan Mutch.
One more free kick to be launched by Brum into the area. This could be it.
I will be cheering for Pompey. I hope they stay above the drop zone.
Who do you think will win the Cup?
Spurs?
Well done Brum... back to St. Andrews
It finishes 1-1 and there will be a replay at St. Andrews.
They'll be happy with that, I suspect. I'm surprised that there aren't some boos coming from the home supporters. Rubbish performance from them today.
Oh dear . Napoli ? Not a hope one thinks .
I am off for walkies with Shadow
Be back soon
Cheers , UWS. I am not sure what to say about Napoli. It will be a tricky match, but they have done well in the CL.
The Warnockian Era begins for Evil Leeds with a home fixture with Derby County. Ordinarily, I'd hope for three points from this one but who knows...?
Sorry - make that a local derby with Doncaster Rovers. Here are the line-ups:
United: Lonergan, Bruce, Lees, O'Dea, White, Snodgrass, Pugh, Clayton, Townsend, McCormack, Becchio. Subs: M Taylor, Connolly, Rogers, Brown, Forssell.
Doncaster: Button, Lockwood, Hird, Spurr, Chimbonda, Gillett, Stock, Bamogo, Hayter, Barnes, Diouf. Subs: Martis, Robert, O'Connor, Oster, Bagayoko.
If we were to lose 0-8 to bottom of the table Donny today, would Neil Warnock get the sack at 5pm?
I would think so, but I would expect nothing less than three points for Leeds today.
U.S. International, Tim Ream makes his Bolton debut at Millwall today.
That's good news for the US soccer set-up.
I am shocked about Rangers. If they go out of existence then that could have serious ramifications for Scottish football. That gifted Celtic the EPL title. They were purchased for one quid!
Blackpool about to get us underway in their change strip at Goodison.
Everton vs Blackpool kicks off at Goodison Park.
I am pleased that Man United won at Ajax on Thursday, but am disappointed that I missed the first half as it was during my lunch period
GOAL! Bloody hell - that didn't take long. Drenthe with the opener for Everton!
WOW 1-0 EVERTON AS THEY TAKE AN EARLY LEAD WITH A SUPERB FINISH FROM DRENTHE.
All a bit too easy for the Toffees there but Someone Said won't be complaining. It came down the left side and when the ball came in to Fellaini, he laid it off perfectly for Drenthe who finished with aplomb in the bottom corner.
I clocked the goal at 47 seconds as Magaye Gaye went down the left, crossed for Hair Bear, who laid it off for Drenthe to finish superbly. The Seasiders were asleep on that goal.
Evil Millwall are behind to Bolton already. It's the Arsenal youngster Miyaachi on loan at Bolton with the goal.
Jeff and the crew spend forever talking about Rangers entering administration as they forget about the FA Cup and the rest of the football matches.
Blackpool at sixes and sevens at the back now. Hair Bear nearly got behind them again!
Are you on a different link? I am not getting any updates. Just a lecture from Charlie Nicholas.
They look like the side that went down last May.
GOAL! Everton are in dreamland - 2-0!
GOAL !!! 2-0 AS GIT GOES HORRIBLY WRONG FOR bLACKPOOL . STRACQUILARSI SCORES FROM CLOSE RANGE AS IT WAS FAR TOO EASY OFF THE CORNER.
Drenthe's corner over and there was so little pressure on Strac that he had two bites at the cherry before knocking it home.
All Donny pressure so far at Elland Road in the first five minutes.
FPR SOME REASON i THINK MY sOCCER sTAURDAY IS ABOUT 30 MINUTES BEHIND BECUASE THIS CONVERSATION SEEMS LIKE A RERUN.
Everton hit Blackpool for five at their last meeting - they're well on their way to equaling that.
How do I make sure that my link is on current time?
It seems that way. Blackpool look like the side that collapsed the second half of last season.
I was having trouble with the link UWS gave us so I switched to My Premium TV and hit the "Sky Sports News" link. It's slightly behind the action - maybe 30 seconds.
I am refreshing in the hopes that it updates. No luck!
Lots of goals in the Cup; no goals in the Championship so far. Odd.
Cheers BD. I will try that.
Apparently Neil Redfearn is in charge of Leeds today, so the Evil Leeds Warnockian Era has yet to truly begin.
Posh have scored the first goal in the Championship today - 1-0 up over Bristol City.
Better from Blackpool now. SuperKev picks up a free kick in the D.
Chhers BD. It's on. Thanks for the link. Still 0-0 at ER. Peterboro lead Bristol City 1-0
Apparently Becchio just came close with a looping header.
Come on, you Whites!
Sotton take the lead vs Derby County.
Soton have gone 1-0 up against Derby. They're back on top of the table.
Hey Boys,
I am back from a walk and run outside.
Everton for the Cup!!!
Dear oh dear - Rangers are behind at home to Killy.
Rangers trail Killie at Ibrox to cap a disasterous week.
That was a long walkies, mate!
Welcome back.
Welcome back, UWS. Believe it or not I was actually thinking about Everton for the Cup.
Norwich trail the Foxes thanks to an early goal from Sean St. Ledger.
Got to close the shop now . Going home for a little nap .
Great talking to you guys today . Until the next time . xxx
Motherwell are in better financial shape than Rangers!
Great chatting with you Cheklskilad. Have a great nap.
Gary Taylor-Fletcher is down injured.
YESSSS!!!!
Ipswich take the lead vs Evil Cardiff.
Cheltenham take the lead at Daggenham . That's great news for Plymouth.
Ipswich take the lead agains the League Cup Finalist
Wilson receives a lecture after a clumsy foul on Strac.Roman Bednar is on for the injured Gary Taylor- Fletcher. Cheltenham now lead 0-2 at Daggenham.
Pompey really need to win today at Barnsley
Sad to see Taylor-Fletcher being carried off on a stretcher.
See ya Tony
Norwich tie it up in the Cup
Norwich tie it up as Hoolihan scores off his saved penalty.
Palce take the lead vs Watford.
Palace take the lead against Watford
I'm just back from a quick natter with my mum.
Did any of you get a crying baby sound on SS? That was odd!
Are you going to watch Man United vs Ajax on Thursday?
Cheerio, Chelskilad! Sorry about the disappointing morning for you.
I'm hoping that this Thursday is better for me than last week. It was a crazy, busy week for me.
