Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

European Championship Trivia!

In an effort to whet the appetite for the upcoming tournament, here's a brain tickler on the Euros:

Since its inception as the European Nation's Cup in 1960, only three countries have won the tournament on home soil. Name them and the years that they won it."

Good luck, chaps!

Nice job with the anoraking as usual, MUR. You nailed the Spanish win in 1964 (an excellent year, btw!) and the Platini-inspired French win in 1984. Not correct on 1968, though. Anyone else have a guess?

By the way, I enjoyed the dig on home field advantage. I wouldn't argue that this advantage extends to necessarily winning the tournament, as it has often done in the World Cup. However, I suspect that it's enough of an advantage for Poland that they'll be able to escape a weak Group A. Looking forward to a feisty European Championship Predictions Game!

Bad news out of the England camp tonight. The squad trained at Eastlands ahead of tomorrow's friendly with Norway and neither Glen Johnson (infected toe) nor Danny Welbeck (ankle) made it through the entire session.
