The Richest Game in World Football
An estimated £160 million is on the line at Wemberley this afternoon as West Ham take on Blackpool in the Championship Playoff Final. The winners get a first class ticket to the riches of the Premiership; the losers get a chance to play away at Turf Moor on a rainy Tuesday night in November. Join me for all the action from 10am onward on FSC.

Gentlemen, I don't know if you read my post from another thread... I won' t be around for today's festivities. I may be here for a bit of the first match but I will be on my way to Long Island at Noon for Long Island for Thomas' State Cup game
Morning, UWS - sorry to miss you today. I'll also be on the road during the first half of the CL final today, sadly. But I'll be around for this morning's crucial clash. Good luck to Tom with his match today.
No build up at all on FSC - they're showing some bollocks called "The Ten Minute Workout." My version of that is slapping the smug smiles off the execs at FSC - I'm sure I could shed a few pounds doing that.
Here's the team news out of Wembley:
Blackpool: Gilks; Baptiste, Evatt, Eardley, Crainey; Ferguson, Martinez; Ince, Dobbie, M.Phillips; K.Phillips.
Subs: Southern, Sylvestre, Cathcart, Dicko, Bednar
West Ham: Green; Demel, Reid, Tomkins, Taylor; Noble, Nolan, O'Neil; Collison, Cole, Vaz Te.
Subs: Henderson, Faubert, McCartney, Lansbury, Maynard
Referee/Scapegoat: Howard Webb
Hey Boys
We're off
West Ham get us underway - come on, you Irons!
Good morning lads. I will join you on our favorite link.
A furious pace at the beginning here.
I didn't realize that it's on FSC
Struth... Blackpool was almost in there... terrible header there
It's all Tangerines as Green had to save at his near post from Dobbie.
Oh - off the post for Blackpool!
Matt Taylor fell over as the Blackpool striker streaked through. Green did really well to tip the shot onto the post.
Fat Sam is already up off the bench.
The Scottish Cup Final has started
England have a first innings lead of 150 ish
Windies 14 for 0 in second innings
Morning, MUR - yes, the Fox channels are doing right by us. FSC has an hour build-up to the CL final this afternoon but the match itself is on the parent Fox station.
Irons sub keeper, Henderson, and Motherwell starting keeper Darren Randolph , failed to make Trap's Euro squad while Millwall bench warmer, David Forde did. Can you help me with that logic?
Ta very much, NocitoSportsCenter. Any news for the Tahitian Jai Alai Playoffs?
The Wembley pitch doesn't look as good as the old one
Trappatoni has his own inscrutable logic. Can't help you, mate.
I will be around for all but the last 20 minutes of the CL final because Melanie has an end of the school year piano recital.
They are delayed... a storm inside the arena
The pitch doesn't look right - Noble slipped over just at the wrong moment.
Thanks ,BD. I thought it was just me.
You could the say the same about the England squad!
Downing?
some other bloke I have never heard of
The New Wembley pitch is horrible.
West Ham's game plan is clear - get it forward quickly to Cole to lay-off to Nolan, Noble or O'Neil who will try and find the runs of Jack Collison or Ricardo Vaz Te.
Did you see that Solskjaer has turned down Villa?
I thought that would have been a good stepping stone to Old Trafford
Nice run... useless cross
I agree, UWS. That is the standby keeper , who is Brum's third choice keeper that had to be sent on loan to Cheltenham to get some match experience. If he is England's fourth best keeper why didn't Woy sign him for the Baggies if Ben Foster wasn't even put on standby?
Sounds like the Trotters of old, BD.
If the Hammers win this match will Fat Sam have some measure of satisfaction that Bolton and Blackburn will be playing in the Championship?
1504: BBC Scotland's Clive Lindsay at Hampden: "Been to Old Firm finals, Scotland games - both football and rugby - but do not think I can remember an atmosphere like this. C'mon Feel the Noize indeed."
Great pass finding a streak player... useless attempt
Oh - big chance there for Phillips as he went in one on one but his final effort was tame. Green collects.
HOW DID HE MISS THAT? The youngster was put through by Matt Phillips and shot straight at Greenie. The Tangerines will have to take advantage of their chances or else the Hammers will punish them?
Another chance for the same bloke... he misses again!
A better attempt but...
West Ham are very lucky not to be behind here!
Oh - Phillips has another big chance. He's blown it again. What on earth are the West Ham fullbacks thinking today? They're having 'mares!
I would have buried both
Another miss for Matt Phillips as he curled an effort just wide of the post. As I stated, the Tangerines cannot afford to miss those opportunities.
Do you think West Ham are nervous because of the weight of this match? They seem like it.
Of course you would've, mate.
Will Ian Holloway try to lure you out of retirement , UWS?
Do you really want Solksjaer as United manager?
Hearts have taken the lead
I think so. The pressure is on the Hammers because they are the favorites. Matty Taylor is at left back , which is not his natural position.
Probably not, UWS. I am still uncertain who would succeed SAF.
They're calling the Scottish Cup Final the "Salt and Sauce" final because both sides are from Edinburgh where they favor salt and a mixture of brown sauce and vinegar on their fish and chips.
He seems to have what it takes.
He impressed Fergie as Reserve manager
He won Molde's first ever championship in his first year
Oh - nice interchange between Cole and Vaz Te but the final effort was into the side netting.
Just in case
The Edinburgh Final
http://dart1801.blogspot.com/
Into the side netting from Vaz Te as the Trotters; I mean the Hammers had their first decent opportunity.
An inexperienced reserve team manager succeeded Sir Matt and it was a disaster. I don't want history to repeat itself.
They don't really play the West Ham Way do they?
I think I picked the four missing CL players from your trivia question:
Matteus, Zanetti, Inzaghi, and Del Piero
I already got two of them
They play the unique Fat Sam lump it style. It should be just enough to keep them up should they win this match.
3 of them
Neville, Casillas and Xavi
I thought you and I had each picked three.
Nope - none of those four won 100 appearances for one club in the CL. I reckon too many of them predated the CL in their careers.
Don't forget Roar Strand of Rosenberg - he's the one I knew you wouldn't get.
Sorry not to be here. Recording the game as I have to coach today.
I picked Scholes, Giggsy, and one other.
Two nil Hearts!
The team in Claret are doing well north of the border
COME ON YOU HAMMERS
Sorry not to be here. Recording the game as I have to coach today.
Hello WHR. Sorry you couldn't make it for the big match. Wishing you the best at your match.
Fingers crossed Johnno
The wrong Phillips had those two early chances Super Kev would have buried those one that his name sake Matt missed.
The list in full:
1. Giggs (United)
2. Neville (United)
3. Scholes (United)
4. Puyol (Barca)
5. Xavi (Barca)
6. Kahn (Bayern)
7. Zanetti (Inter)
8. Maldini (Milan)
9. Casillas (Real)
10. Strand (Rosenberg)
Super Super Kev
Super Super Kev
Super Super Kev
Super Kevin Phillips
Hiya, WHR - Come on, you Irons!
I know you said. that I would benefit in the standings with a Tangerines win, but will it really make that much of a difference. If not then I will cheer for Jonno's lads.
I know you said. that I would benefit in the standings with a Tangerines win, but will it really make that much of a difference. If not then I will cheer for Jonno's lads.
The match has lost of bit of its early rhythm at this point. Somehow I see this one going to extra time and penalties, which I would hate as I have to leave just before noon.
I just said Zanetti and you said it was incorrect.I got four as I named Scholes , Goggsy , and Maldini yesterday and Zanetti today. An excellent question, BD.
Hibs should have scored one
Dangerous corner there by WH
Like London buses... one never comes and then three on the trot!
West Ham fail to score from either
Three consecutive Hammers corners as Matt Gilks made a hash of the second one. He is better than that,
Oh - that corner was really dangerous and Jilks was all over the place on it. The Hammers look most dangerous from corners, sadly.
BOOM BOOM UWS. Now number four, but the Tangerines clear the danger.
My apologies, MUR - you were correct with Zanetti - not the others.
But for an injury to Gilks last year, the Tangerines probably would have survived because once Kingson took over their form rapidly declined.
Where's the 5-4 games this fixture used to bring up!
Last year... Swansea three up and then three two
off the line from Hibs... almost three nil!!!
YESS!!!
THE HAMMERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
CARLTON COLE WITH A NEAT FINISH
GOAL 1-0 HAMMERS AS CARLTON COLE SCORES.
GOAL! Carlton Cole opens the scoring for West Ham after a surging run and great ball from Matty Taylor!
1-0!
Windies lose their first wicket of the second innings
All credit top former Pompey player Matt Taylor who won the ball in his own half, went on a nice solo run and superbly put Cole through, who took advantage with a great finish.
Hammers fans going potty now!
IF you have Jonno's number you should text him the good news. if they win we should blow bubbles to honor this accomplishment.
Oh - Vaz Te should have put the Hammers 2-0 up! Great ball through and he blew it wide near post.
A maroon day so far and Vaz Te misses a great chance.
So Matty Phillips missed two great chances for the Tangerines and Vaz Te just missed one for the Hammers.
I think this Hammers side can survive in the EPL, but I wouldn't expect them to finish in the top of the table. The Tangerines would struggle yet again
I meant to say top half, not top.
Hibs get a goal back
Under 5 to go til half... 1-2
I think Gary Taylor- Fletcher is injured. The Tangerines really miss his presence in attack today.
I think this Edinburgh Cup Final is also a playoff for a Europa League spot.
Oh - Martinez had a chance on the volley but ballooned it well over.
The shot from Martinez clears the New Wemberley Stadium after a long free kick from Ian Evatt was headed clear.
Hearts finished fifth, outside of Euroope, and Hibs finished second from bottom
BOOM BOOM, BD. I just looked up and agree that Webbie could be deemed a scapegoat after some of his performances this season.
More evidence that the Europa League makes no sense at all.
Into the last minute of stoppage time now.
If Rangers up being relegated then Hearts will end up in a Europa Legue position and Hibs would automatically move into a Europa League spot. It all depends upon the decision facing Rangers.
Half-time: Well, it didn't look good for West Ham in the opening moments but they're half way there now due to that cool finish by Cole.
Back in a tick.
Halftime and 1-0 to the Hammers in a really tense playoff final.
Half time at both venues
Struth... just looked at the cricket...Windies have lost three wickets!
36 for 3
It looks bleak for the Windies.
Blackpool get us started in the second half - do they have an answer to that Carlton Cole goal?
I have a bizarre question. For two consecutive seasons a team won 0-4 away from home on the opening day of the season and ended up being relegated while the losers survived on the last day of the season. Bolton at really Evil QPR and Blackpool at wigan last season. Has that ever happened in two consecutive top flight seasons in any league?
Hearts have a penalty in the first minute of the second half... a complete DIVE!!
Hibs defender gets a second yellow.. down to ten
I have a feeling that the Hammers will try to frustrate the Tangerines and hold on to their 1-0 lead.
GOAL! Ince equalizes for Blackpool!
Matt and I have talked about that... they were both top of the table after the first day
BLOODY HELL... BLACKPOOL HAVE SCORED!
So did Hearts
GOAL !!! 1-1 AS INCE SCORES WITH A SUPERB FINISH. GAME ON. pAUL WILL BE PROUD AND SIMILAR TO THE HAMMERS GOAL.
Great ball over the top and Ince made no mistake with that finish.
1-1!
Did you hear that Paul Ince's son scored for the Hammers.
Hearts have scored again!!!!
4-1.... what a start to the second... struth... Pool almost did too
I meant the Tangerines, but dad Paul did start his career with the Hammers.
West Ham are rocking now and Baptiste had his effort cleared off the line by Taylor!
I saw that about Incy
Nearly the lead for the Hammers as Matt Taylor clears off the line from Alex Baptiste.
Yeah - more reasons why the name Ince is a dirty one around Upton Park.
Some Hibs fans are leaving already
IT IS ALL BLACKPOOL!!!
It sounds like a tainted victory for the maroons and plenty of fuel for the fire for next season's Edinburgh Derby, especially if Rangers is relegated.
Oh - Dobbie the House Elf is through again but good covering by Reid.
Will Rangers be in existence next season?
So, is that 0-4 relegation combo in consecutive seasons a first ever in any league? A great pub question?
McCartney is coming on for O'Neil.
It must be, MUR. A really strange convergence of results there.
George McCartney is on for Gary O'Neill . I am surprised he didn't start.
Two Beatles coming on!!!
I think Rangers will. My brother thinks they went into admin for tax purposes. I wouldn't write them off as I expect them to be around for a while.
I saw one Beatle in McCartney. Who is the other? I wish it would be four.
George!!
I assume that UWS is referring to "George" as in Harrison and "McCartney" as in Paul, right?
Perhaps Ringo Lennon is on the bench?
A French exchange as Julian Faubert is on for Guy Demel, who looks perfect to play the role of thug in Fat Sam's system.
correct... I know... a stretch but...
BOOM BOOM UWS! I was fooled by the fact that I thought you meant two separate players. A two for one special!Naughty from the Hammer's sub.
Volleyed over by Jack Collison. He was down holding his shoulder, but seems to be okay.
West Ham should have done better there!!
Where did the commentator go???
There is a Beatle from the LUFC Academy.A tricky one I hear!
Would the Hammers have scored if it wasn't for that slip on the horrible New Wemberley pitch?
Yeah - poor old Aaron - missed out on the England squad. I don't know why?
Did you see that QPR are going to make a bid for Robert Green.... cue Paddy Kenny heading off to Elland Road!
Oh - great turn and shot from Cole but Jilks was equal to it.
Brilliant save by Gilks from Carlton Cole.
Obviously... Downing is better!!!
It just makes me cringe!
Do you know Downing had no goals and no assists in the Premier League!!!!
How about Joey Barton at ER - it would complete our thuggish reputation.
It sounds that way and if not Greenie then Robbo. If the Hammers go up and Greenie goes to QPR then expect Robbo to head to Upton Park. All part of the script.
It wouldn't surprise me,.BD. He and Michael Brown in midfield says it all. Will he sign Clint Hill too to complete the hat-trick?
Be back in a few... sorting things out for the trip
Trap is not any better than Woy. Four Wolves players. One of the forwards, Simon Cox, had no goals and one assist in nine appearances for the Baggies. The Azzuri and Spaniards will be intimidated for sure!
Oh - Dobbie the House Elf misses a sitter!
Cheers UWS! Was that Martinez that missed the sitter for the Tangerines at the far post.
It was Dobbie , not Martinez. He played in the playoff final for the Swans last year.
Just too long for Super Kev , who was licking his chops.
Super Elf has a shot deflected for a corner.
As I suspected, this one looks like it's going to extra time. Twenty minutes plus stoppage to sort it out.
Off the line from Mark Noble after the son of a former Hammer took a superb corner.
Why would Holloway bring off SuperKev at this point? Surely he'd be useful in penalties.
Ludovic Sylvestre is on for Super Kev.
I agree, BD. Perhaps Super Kev cannot last 120 minutes at his advanced age.
The last time the Championship Playoff Final went to penalties was that 4-4 draw between Sunderland and Charlton. Was Super Kev playing for the Black Cats that day?
Might have been.
And Super Kev part of both matches in a span of fourteen years. What a coincidence.
Hearts score number five!!!
Great save by Green from Dobbie.
Dobbie has been elfish and lively in this second half.
A farcical Scottish Cup Final. That sending off really hurt Hibs.
Dobbie is elfish and Dafoe is selfish!
Again, there was a pull of the shirt but the bloke went down like..... Ashley Young!
I have a plan. If this match is drawn after extra time, rather than go to penalties, promote both teams and relegate Really Evil QPR as the team that finished fourth from bottom. Are you lads on board ?
Just over by Jack Collison.
Sounds like a good plan
BTW, I was loving QPR for 91 minutes last week!!!
Great shot by Nolan off the bar!!!
Keeper saved it!!
Me too, but I really loathe and despise Joey Barton . Off to ER for him!
Oh - the crossbar saves Blackpool from that superb volley from Nolan!
A superb volley and save as Gilks tipped a volley from Kevin Nolan on to the bar.
I'm on board with that.
Lords update
44 for 3
Did you know that Citeh out shot the Evils 44 to 3 and had 81% of the possession. I guess they deserved to win.
91 minutes!!!!
Ta very much UWS and BD.
Would have won, but for Barton.
Free kick chance here for the Tangerines.
BLOODY BARTON
Green almost did a Dempsey!!
Overly clever from Blackpool as Dobbie drills one toward Green.
Route 1 now from the Hammers.
The free kick from the Elf is straight at Green, who did better than he did with that effort from Clint.
That was a nice move but OUCH
Vaz Te goes down in the box after some Hammers pressure, but Webbie awards a free kick to the Tangerines.
78K+ at Wembley - great attendance!
78 thou under the arch... where's the 90
