The 2012 Champions League Final
For the First time since 1984 a team will be hosting the Champions League Final as Bayern Munich take on Chelsea. The previous occasion was when Roma took on Liverpool in the Olympic Stadium in Rome, but the Reds won in a penalty shootout. Chelsea must win or else they will face the prospect of Europa League footie next season. Spurs will be cheering for Bayern because they finished in fourth and need a Bayern victory in order to play in the CL next season. Gooners will cheer for Bayern too because a Chelsea victory would force the Gunners to play in an early season qualifier despite finishing third. Finally, Arjen Robben will be keen to do well against his former employes at the Allianz Arena. Any questions.

The pre-match pleasantries are over and we are about to kickoff. And we're off from the Allianz Arena
Casley commits the first foul on Toni Kroos and it's a partizan atmosphere as expe3cted.
The free kick is easily cleared as Bayern dominate the early possession.
Pig Stick is booked for intentional handball. The fans jeer, but do they expect special treatment just because they are the home team?
The big surprise is that Ryan Bertrand, who has never played a CL match in his career and has only seven career EPl appearance is starting ion the Chelsea midfield. He may never have a night like this in his entire career. A story for the grandkids in about thirty to forty years.
Pig stick has a shot deflected for a corner. The corner from Ribery is easily cleared as Bayern maintain possession. Kroos shoots wide, but Cech has it covered.
A risky back pass from Bosingwa , but Cech clears into touch.
Superb work by Kalou to set Drogba free on the right, but a shame about the cross from Drogs.
Useless from Robben vs his former club as shoots into row Z after a superb break down the right . Bayern fans were not amused
This seems a lot like the match at the Nou Camp. Eerily similar.
A Bayern attack ends with a foul by Ribery and uses his sub par IQ to make a gesture at the ref. He would be smart not to in the CL Final. LOOK WHO I'M TALKING ABOUT!
I hope it's not just me , but after early Bayern dominance it seems like it's going to be one of those dull tactical CL finals.
David Luiz get called for a ticky tack challenge.
A nice cross from Ribery is headed over by Super Mario. Chelsea would be wise not to let him free again as he is an excellent finisher. A let off for Chelsea.
It appears that in this early stage of the match that Chelsea is playing for penalties. Foolish as the Germans are the master of penalty shootouts.
Thomas Mueller wins a Bayern corner.
Robben has a shot from the corner blocked for another, then Cech punches away the next, then Bosingwa slices a clearance that nearly went into his own net. The next corner was useless.
Scary moments for Chelsea as Robben wove his way through the Chelsea defense and Cech unknowingly made a kick save that Chelsea struggled to clear for a corner. Chelsea broke , but Kalou was miles offside.
Robben wins a corner off of Cashley.
The corner from Robben was cleared by Drogba.
Useless cross from Kroos after he was superbly put through.
Diego Contento wins a corner off of Bosingwa.
Cech easily catches the corner.
Bayern have outshot Chelsea six nil and have outcornered Chelsea seven nil, but the most important stat is that it is still nil nil.
David Luiz fouls Mueller just outside the box and as Gary Neville said, he went down rather easily.
Into the wall by Robben and cheers from Chelsea fans, whom I have heard for the first time this match.
Chelsea broke , but Lahm easily tackled Bertrand and Bayern fans were screaming bloody murder from minimal contact by Bertrand.
Stupid yellow for Bosingwa as he unnecessarily fouls Ribery who is down supposedly injured.
Robben volleys straight to Cech after Luiz blocked an effort from Super Marion.
Jerome Boateng fouls Gary Cahill outside the box.
The free kick from Mata is well over as the Bayern fans were booing. The first Chelsea shot of the match.
Ribery snatches an effort wide from a narrow angle and Chelsea fans are delighted.
Thomas Mueller volleys inches wide from a superb cross by Ribery with Cech rooted to the spot.
Now Chelsea break , but Drogba is double teamed and it comes to nothing. Kalou is easily tackled.
Neuer saves at the near post from Kalou after a great back heel from Drogba.
Bayern have an evil streak as they have two ex Citeh players in the squad. Jerome Boateng ,starting at left back and Danile Van Buyten on the subs bench.
Super Mario misses a sitter as Cashley clears for a corner after a mis-hit shot from Ribery. Useless corner from Robben
Well wide from Tymoschuk from over forty yards out. Bayern will never score with those types of efforts.
Nice run from Mata, but a bloody useless pass.
Useless pass from Boisingwa and Bayern break through Mueller. Well over from Super Mario, who must have left his shooting boots at home tonight of all nights.
The announcer said that the lowest placed team to win the CL or European Cup was eleventh placed Villa in 1982 against none other than Bayern. The second lowest placed team to make the final was ninth placed Leeds in 1975 against none other than Bayern!
One minute of stoppage time.
As Gary Neville stated this gone according to plan for a well organized Chelsea.
Halftime and 0-0 despite Bayern dominance. A great picture of frustrated looking Bayern fans.
The second half is underway from The Allianz Arena .
Martin Tyler and Gary Neville are announcing form Munich.
An early corner as Luiz cuts out a cross from Robben.
I guess it's a goal kick.Roman looks nervous as he is sitting in the luxury box.
Toni Kroos has a shot deflected off of Luiz for a corner that started after a defensive error from Luiz let Robben through, but he was stopped from a superb tackle by Cashley.
Thomas Mueller tries to be too cute and his shot is deflected harmlessly to Cech.
A speculative long range volley from Drogba that is not too far wide, but Neuer appeared to have it covered.
Martin Tyler mentioned an interesting fact that first time winners have been successful in Munich such as Forest in 1979 and Borussia Dortmund in 1997.
Super Mario went down easily in the box. Poor by Super Mario and lucky not to be booked. It all started with Mikkel giving the ball away. Kudos to him for basically marking Super Mario out of the game.
Chelsea get a break as Cech made a great save from Robben and Robery put away the rebound, but it was disallowed as Ribery was just offside.
LUCKY CHELSEA!
Of course Bayern fans voiced their disapproval.
A special mention to the inexperienced Bertrand for his superb effort in unsettling the Bayern midfield in such a hostile atmosphere. Also to Mikkel for a superb marking job on Super Mario.
BOOM BOOM MARTIN!
Not even kroos from Kroos as he shot well wide from long range . Really poor and lots of groans from Bayern fans.
Great back heel from Bertrand, but the cross from Cashley is headed out and Gary Cahill is called for a foul.
Great block by Cashley from Robben after being put through superbly by Super Mario.
Useless cross from Mata after a great Chelsea possession.
A cross from Mueller is deflected off of Cashley for a corner.
Useless header from Pig Stick off the corner from Robben
Great one two between Pig Stick and Super Mario, but a useless cross from Pig Stick straight to Cech,
Ribery shoots wide from just outside the D.
Lahm has a cross deflected for a corner Never a hand ball from Cashley.
Poor by Lahm as he goes down easily in the box. The fans were jeering , but the Portugese ref was never buying it.
It's all Bayern , but Cech is not being tested.
Great tackle by Cashley on Mueller, but it's another Bayern corner.
Corner number sixteen for Bayern as Chelsea have yet to win one.
A long range effort from Kroos is easily blocked. Now Bayern have a free kick just outside the box.
Robben is starting to become more of a ball hog and his shot is easily blocked.
A cross from Bosingwa is headed away and Neuer easily gathers the return cross.
Drogba skips past Tymoschuk and his cross is cut for Chelsea's first corner of the match. Ryan Bertrand is replaced by Malouda and is applauded by Chelsea fans for his effort.
Neuer makes a hash of the corner, but Drogba volleys harmlessly to him.I am off to Melanie's piano recital.
Great turn from Ribery and his deflected cross is tipped over by Cech. Lampard heads away the corner from guess who?
Drogba heads away a corner from guess who?
A Bayern attack ends with a foul by Mueller on Malouda.
Thomas Mueller drags an effort well wide. Bayern have been dominating, but Bayern's finishing has been dreadful today.
More ball hogging from Robben and he easily gifts possession to Chelsea.
Chelsea fans wanted a penalty, but it hit Ribery on the chest.
Uli Hoeness, the Bayern President does not seem impressed with the Bayern performance.
Cashley is booked for a foul on Mueller, who makes the most of it.
Mueller had a free header from a cross by Ribery, but it was tamely to Cech.
GOAL !!! 1-0 BAYERN AS MUELLER HEADS BAYERN AHEAD FROM A CROSS BY RIBERY. iT WENT INTO THE GROUND AND OFF THE BAR.
Torres is on for Kalou . Is that the winner for Bayern?
Cech saves easily from Robben.
David Luiz fouls Robben on the touchline and is booked. It seemed rather innocuous, IMHO.
Daniel Van Buyten, who has not made a first team appearance since January, is on for Mueller. That makes tow former Citeh players on the pitch for Bayern.
Three minutes plus stoppage time remaining.
Spurs and Arsenal fans must be delighted.
Torres wins a corner off of Contero.
GOAL !!! CAN YOU ADAM AND EVE IT AS DROGBA HEADS IN FROM THE CORNER AND THE NEVILLE ROAR! nEUER PUSHES IT INTO THE ROOF OF THE NET AND THE CHELSEA FANS BEHIND THE GOAL GO POTTY!
Bayern fans get a taste of their own medicine as the announcer chants Drogba's name and the Chelsea fans repeat it in German style as if openly mocking the Bayern fans. Three minutes of stoppage time.
So it looks like extra time and only Chelsea fans are chanting. I cannot hear a single Bayern fan. Poor behavior from the German fans. Aren't they the home team?
Poor from Neuer as he punches away a cross that an AYA keeper should have caught.
Ribery fouls Mata just outside the box and this must be the last action of regulation time.
Useless free kick from Drogba that lands in row T and it's extra time.An unlikely scenario as Bayern dominated and I' m sure they won it with that Mueller header.Chelsea just don't give up.Did that substution where Van Buyten came on for Mueller hurt Bayern as Van Buyten was supposed to mark Drogba. That is why Citeh released him.
Extra time has started at the Allianz Arena.
Torres breaks, but the problem is that nobody else does , then he finds Lampard , who has a long range effort blocked.
Now Chelsea is dominating possession. That goal seems to have knocked the wind out of Bayern's sails.
Kroos has an effort easily blocked and Bayern have a penalty as Drogba clips Ribery in the box.
YESSSSSSSSSS!!!! CECH SAVES THE PENALTY FROM EX CHELSEA PLAYER ROBBEN. iT WAS A WEAK EFFORT AND THE CHELSEA FANS BEHIND THE GOAL WENT POTTY. IS IT CHELSEA'S NIGHT?
A German side missing a vital penalty and on their own ground of all places.
It gets worse for Bayern as Ribery is off injured and Ivica Olic is on in his place.
David Luiz blocks a volley from Van Buyten and Lampard clears for a corner.
Will that penalty miss come back to haunt Bayern?
If this goes to penalties you would favor the German side as they won it that way in the semis and it's in their own stadium, but then Robben missed a vital spot kick.
Pictures of JT going bonkers after that penalty save.
Lampard takes a long free kick to Torres, who dummies two Bayern defenders and his cross is headed away.
Bayern fans have been awfully quiet in extra time. I guess it's easier to cheer your team when things are in your favor . Horrible Bayern fans.
One minute of stoppage time in the first half of extra time.
Mata is called for a really soft foul near his corner flag.
Usless free kick that is easily cleared by Drogba and its halftime of extra time.
Of all days to have technical difficulties as the second half of extra time did not record. Chelsea won the CL 4-3 in a penalty shootout. Bayern have themselves to blame as they missed a host of chances. Who would have thought that a German team would lose a penalty shootout and in their own stadium of all places. Has that ever happened?Super Mario picked this match of all matches to have an off day. This is the fourth time that Munich has hosted the CL or European Cup final and each time the winner won it for the first time ever. The lasted time one of the teams hosted the final, Roma lost in a penalty shootout to Liverpool after a 1-1 draw. The same happened today. Perhaps Chelsea were meant to win the competition. Finally, 22 year old Ryan Bertrand became the first player in the CL era to make his competition debut in the final.
WELL DONE CHELSEA!
Sorry Spurs , but you will play in the Europa League and Arsenal will play a two legged qualifier before the group stages.
Hiya, MUR - thanks for keeping us going at the LOB during this season capper. Sadly I was on work duty during the match picking up some English kids at the airport. I'll have to watch the replay - sounds like the second half and extra were corkers.
What a day for LONDON!!
