Lakenheath Old Boys
We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Morning, MUR! Thanks for the post - you beat me to the punch. Glad to have you on board.
Good morning BD. I am fixing the morning cuppa. I think you beat me to the punch.I was fine with your post.
I just deleted my thread - no worries. The FSC coverage has started. I don't see a link for the LUFC match. I'll have to follow it on the club website.
Sorry about that Bob.I would have watched it
This version of Ajax is evil as they roll back the years as start ex Liverpool keeper,Sander Westerveld in goal.
We're off from Cape Town.
DO BETTER TODAY UNITED!
I was wondering why that name sounded familiar. Well in, mate!
CasuAL defending from United.
WAKE UP UNITED!
Cheers, BD! Enough ex Reds as is.
The camera seems a million miles away from the pitch. Hmmmm....
After this match it's the long flight to China to face some familiar friends in the form of Drogs and the Sulk.
Do we need our reading glasses for this match???
United's attacking not quite clicking right now. Quick start though.
Where is Rip Van Winkle? He is missing all the action. With a name like that he should be in South Africa instead of catching extra kip,LOL.
Agreed BD. Just like Wednesday.
PLAY FASTER UNITED!
Better from United , but a poor cross from the youngster.
Good thing I got some new specs this week. Btw, have you noticed that Blogger is started to do silly links off what we write to advertising sites? I think we should get some revenue off those things, don't you?
I agree. I am not pleased with some of the stunts blogger has pulled recently.
United are giving some of the youngsters a run out today, but it's still the same slow, methodical United.
The announcer was complaining about the challenge from Tyler Blackett. Has he watched any EPL matches recently?
And the color guy seems anti-United. Is he a Scouser in disguise?
Lucky for United that this version of Ajax can't break. They won't get away with this in the EPL.
He must be.I hope we don't have a pro Chelsea color guy when United face Drogs and Nik Anelka on Wednesday
Poor control by Valencia, but he was well marked.
The announcer is stating United's preseason schedule. I think I beat him to the punch.
Nearly 1-0 to Ajax Cape Town as the shot was inches wide.
WAKE UP UNITED!
I think you did - want a job at FSC?
Close call there for Ajax Cape Town. Rio looked a bit leggy in that challenge.
Sure why not. Ta, BD.
United look horrible today. I know it's a preseason friendly, but...
The fans may like Matty Booth, but it sure looks like he's not on the pitch for his passing.
Shut it announcer. we don't want to hear how United's title challenge was ruined.
Kagawa has had a quiet beginning on his first United start.
A shot well over after a great block by the United defense. Cape Town have had the best chances.
I agree - a lot of rust in these players.
United win their first corner of the match, but it appeared that Valencia was fouled.
Useless cross from Valencia after a corner off the training ground was a bust. Sander Westerveld has been a virtual spectator.
Offside by Valencia as he was put through by Anderson.
Chicha has the ball in the net but he's ruled offside.
Cape Town's winter climate sounds a lot like Manchester's summer climate.
This seems a huge stadium for a SA club side. Was it built for the 2010 World Cup, perhaps?
The ref wasn't pleased, but he needs to get over it. after all, it's a friendly to try and entertain the fans.
I think so. I know Cape Town was one of the venues for the World Cup.
I thought Kagawa might be the Park Ji-Sung replacement but he seems a good deal slighter than the dog-eater.
I reckon that UWS is having a lie-in with FSC on the box in the bedroom.
Booth heads out a cross from Valencia for a United corner that is taken by Anderson. Cape Town win a free kick just outside the United box. Not much in the challenge.
Agree with you about Kagawa.
UWS should be named RVW. I understand that RVW is not a fan of RVP.
Better from United.Great save by Westerveld from a header by Chicharito.
Cape Town break off a corner that was headed away by Booth as Scholes and Carrick lost possession , but again Cape Town's finishing was horrible.
I've just noticed that Leeds got off to a winning pre-season start with a 5-2 thumping of some side called Farsley with goals from academy prospect Andy Gray as well as Robbie Rogers and Billy Paynter.
News out of Blighty today is that Fergie has made a formal offer for RVP. UWS (RVW) will not be pleased.
If RVW is having a lie in then this match should put him back to sleep.
Yours truly is pleased about the bid. Great work, SAF!
I think that Farsley is a Geordie side that play in the division just below the conference. Alfreton will be a step up for Leeds today.
Just over by this Ajax and they wanted a corner, but the ref was having none of it.
Anderson wins a corner as Kagawa showed great vision. It Started with Ajax conceding possession.United take it short and maintain possession.
Kagawa wins a free kick off the long possession.Chicharito deflects a pass from Carrick wide as young Scott Wooten just failed to connect.
Useless free kick from Ajax. They were looking for the giant, Matty Booth.
Half time: 0-0. I'm sure you're not pleased with that.
Halftime and 0-0.I am not pleased with the United performance.
Btw, you were spot on - Paddy Kenny has joined Leeds and Andy Lonergan has buggered off to Bolton. I reckon that's a step up for us.
Absolutely correct, BD.
I guess it is, but I thought Lonergan had a decent season. Paddy should do well for Leeds while Lonergan while challenge Adam Bogdan for the starting spot at Bolton.
The second half is underway as the commercial ended ten seconds late. Poor by FSC.
Back in time to United right back on the front foot. Chicha misses a couple of good chances. Fergie must have had some choice words to say in the dressing room.
Scott Wooten heads over from close range off a cross from Anderson off a short corner , but he was called offside.
I am sure he did. A boot to the eye perhaps???
Pre-season jitters from FSC, eh?
He's saving that for Rip Van Winkle. Poor pre-season form from UWS.
We should tell him that he slept so long that he missed United's signing of RVP.
That would be a corker, MUR! LOL!
FSC mentioned that the color guy is none other than Paddy Crerrand. He better not be anti United.
Sounds like there is a strong Dutch connection at Ajax Capetown. I wonder how close Dutch is to Afrikans?
I'm surprised. He's certainly been underwhelmed by United today.
Cheers BD.Would that make my preseason pic obsolete?
It seems that way. I think Afrikans is a variation of Dutch with the local dialect mixed in. Just a guess.
Better from United to start the second half.I don't blame Paddy for not being impressed.
United defend the Cape Town free kick intended for Booth, then United break and Chicharito fails to connect.
United play Shanghai at 1 PM Wednesday. Surely, RVW must be awake by then.
Valencia goes past two players, but puts in a useless cross.
Oh - Kagawa should have got his debut goal there. Dead on header, just past the post.
OH! United should have taken the lead as Kagawa had a free header in the six yard box that went wide off a tasty cross from Chicharito!
Well offside by Chicharito as he was put through by Carrick.
Now Cape Town is going to make five substitutions. This will kill the flow of the match
Only three changes were made as the ref lost patience.
United about to make three changes.Make it four!
Before that, Cape Town make two more changes and the United subs are left waiting.
I'm feeling goal-starved!
Morning Fellas
I have been watching the match on and off and UNITED STINK!!!
How do you pronounce our new #26
I thought it was Ka Gow Wa
On comes Powell
Now for the United changes.
Bebe for Chicharito
Ryan Tunnicliffe for Valencia
Nick Powell the new signing from Crewe on for Scholes, whom he should replace as a United started in the near future, and Jesse Lingard on for Anderson.
It should be "Ka-gah-wah" with emphasis equally on all syllables if you're pronouncing it properly in Japanese.
Good morning UWS.I could not agree with you more about the United performance.
Hernandez has really dropped since his first season. Was that just a sophomore jinx?
I get the impression that Powell is a Paul Scholes type player. Was he signed to replace him in that role in the near future?
This bloke from MUTV is kaga wah
If he does not improve then I expect Fergie to transfer him. All the more reason to sign RVP.
I agree.I thought I remembered him. I thought we got rid of him.
The tabloids are saying that United have signed RVP for £40 million. What do you reckon, UWS?
Now Cape Town win a corner.
Did you see that Smalling is out for 10 weeks after undergoing surgery for a broken bone in his foot
Bebe cannot head away a routine corner.
He can't pass either.
I didn't read that.
I heard they offered 15 mil and it is way below Arse's asking price
Great save by Ben Amos off a shot that deflected off of Scott Wooten.Useless corner.
I'm just yanking your chain for sleeping in on Pre-Season Saturday. Wakey wakey, Sleepyhead! :-)
I did not know that about Smalling. I know that's why he missed the Euros. That will hurt United.
RVW doesn't like RVP????
LOL,BD!
Would you agree with Paddy Crerand that Kagawa has been terrific? I'm not convinced.
Cheers, MUR!
Drac is on for Ka Ga Wa. How much longer will he remain a United player?
I disagree with Paddy.
Ta, BD.
I thought Smalling was hurt for something else
Off comes our new signing. Paddy Crerand s says he has been really good. Was he?
BTW, I wasn't sleeping buddy boy... I was doing lots of stuff around the house
Dunno - I'm surprised that he's been included on this meaningless pre-season tour. Surely he'll end up somewhere in Turkey next season.
RVW slept so long that RVP's value doubled!
A likely story, mate. Likely story.
Rip was sleeping so long that he dreamed that he was busy doing errands. LOL!
Sounds about right. There was talk of Drac returning to Germany too, but Turkey would be more like home.
BOOM , BOOM ,BD!
Liverpool v Toronto today
Nice idea from Lingard, but the through ball was just a little short.
Will you be around for that one?
Deary me, this has been a ponderous performance from United. FSC should have shown the Leeds v. Alfreton Town match for sure.
I'll be on my bike to the airport at that point.
Nice from Powell by the corner flag. I would start him ahead of Ka Ga Wa or Kah Gawa
One of my favorite names in world football - Shabalala!
I am ignoring both of you!
I guess this is a good sign for the new season
United crushed Seattle and the All-Stars and then lost the league. Don't waste the good performances for the pre season
Again, United were really good until half time of the Chelsea match.. then we became pedestrian!
Wishing you and Steve a safe trip mate.Your family will be in our thoughts.
You're leaving for England today?
Should take forever to get through the doors of Heathrow with the Olympics!
United to face Drogs and Anelka in China!
Good point, UWS. They surely have not shown any quality in South Africa.
That's alright, mate. You've still got a couple of weeks to shake off the pre-season rust. By August 17th, you should be wide awake for the early matches at 7:45.
Will you be around for the Liverpool, match , UWS?
Are you and Steve going together?
United are losing!!!!!!!!
Cheers, MUR. Yeah - the hospice nurse urged us to get over there this weekend. Steve, Eric and I are flying tonight.
BUGGER!CAPE TOWN TAKE THE LEAD OFF A CORNER!VAN GRAAN , WHO JUST CAME ON HAS SCORED.
The South African fans are going potty - Ajax Capetown have scored! It's a bit jammy but they all count.
It looked like an accidental back heel off the corner.
Maybe... more errands... or sleeping
So who gets the Fergie "Boot in the Eye" Award for that goal?
Heathrow should be really crowded on the return trip as the Olympics will have just started.
Did you see Norwich want to buy Snoddy
Paddy Crerand wants the referee to be booked now!
Just over by Ryan Tunnicliffe off a lay off from Drac. Tunicliffe wanted a corner and was booked for dissent.
Yeah - Snoddy is just about out the door to Norwich, I reckon.
Nearly 2-0 there!
lots of transfer activity between Leeds and Norwich.Bradley Johnson and another player went to Carrow Road while Adam Drury went to ER.What seems to be the connection between these two clubs?
Rash keeping by Ben Amos as Van Graan nearly had a second. Four minutes of stoppage time.
Great play and shot by Powell... I like it
Yeah - Jonny Howson and Bradley Johnson went to Norwich last season. Not sure what the connection is.
Great save by the reserve keeper from Nick Powell.
START POWELL !
Bebe scores for United!!
He still stinks
GOAL! Bebe saves United blushes there and shows off some sexy samba moves at the corner flag.
YESSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!
1-1 AS BEBE FINISHES AT THE FAR POST AFTER GREAT WORK FROM DRAC AND POWELL!
The United bandwagoners in the crowd are happy now.
Volleyed well over by Cape Town.
Other pre-season scores from today. Fleetwood Town 0 Blackburn 2
Motherwell 1 Everton 1
That's all she wrote then. More than a bit uninspired from United.
1-1
That's it as it finishes 1-1.
Not happy with the United performance.
I'm off for a much-needed refreshing shower. Nice chatting with you lads.
How is Leeds doing?
Full time
At least it's not a loss
I am off for a while
Have a safe trip Bob... our thoughts are with you and Steve
Cheers BD . Have a safe trip?
Cheers UWS. I second that .
Wednesday morning
United beat a second string Shanghai team minus Anelka and Drogba 1-0 with a goal from Kagawa.
Another very unimpressive display from the Red Devils. A far cry from last seasons 7 niller against Seattle and 4 niller against the All-Stars
Three games... three goals... hey... we lost league playing great... good signs?
I saw the replay earlier this afternoon and agree that we were poor in the first half, but did better in the second half. United looked as if they were intentionally playing slow. I wonder if SAF has a trick up his sleeve. Are you going to watch the double header at Fenway?
