How About Some Sunday Footie
Is anyone up for some Sunday Footie? We start with the opening act on ESPN 2 as Brendan Rodgers returns to the Vetch Field; sorry I meant the Liberty Stadium. This is followed by Alan Pardew's return to the Dell; sorry I meant St. Mary's as he should expect a hostile reception as Newcastle have the long journey to the South Coast. We conclude with Spurs vs the Hammers in a tasty London Derby and Chelsea vs Citeh, the main match which airs on FSC. This will be the hated Raffa Benitez's first match in charge of Chelsea as they host Citeh, but we will root for his team despite that as I want Citeh to lose ground in the fight for the EPL title. Also, Chelsea have been heavily criticized by the referees union for falsely being accused of racism and for refusing to apologize over the matter. Just another day in the EPL.

It was not the first time and will probably not the last, but Arsene made an Arse of himself at the post match press conference. The reporter asked what I thought was a legitimate question when asked about the team's loss of form. Arsene cut off the reporter and asked him in a sarcastic tone if he had ever managed professionally. He evaded the question and refused to let the reporter get a word in. This may be me, but I think that's equivalent to violating the EPL rule of refusing to give a formal interview. Surely he could have had Steve Bould give the post match interview if he was too stressed. As Far as I am concerned, that was a routine question to ask given the circumstances.
Morning, MUR! How about some Sunday footie indeed. I'm here to enjoy this morning's matches before jumping in the car to head back up to the frozen north.
Interesting about Arsene. Gooner and co. were not happy with Wenger yesterday.
And they're off from the Liberty Stadium
Now it's the return of Brendan Rogers to Swansea. Should be fascinating.
Good morning, BD. Hope you have a safe trip back. We had a cool day yesterday, brezzy and in the 60s. Back to reality today as it should be around 80 this afternoon.
An early Swansea corner taken short and the cross by Pablo Hernandez was headed away
The team news out of the Liberty:
Swansea (4-4-2ish): Tremmel; Rangel, Williams, Chico, Davies; Routledge, Britton, de Guzman, Hernandez; Michu, Shechter.
Subs: Cornell, Monk, Tiendalli, Agustien, Ki, Dyer, Lita.
Liverpool (4-3-3ish): Reina; Johnson, Skrtel, Agger, Enrique; Allen, Henderson, Gerrard; Downing, Sterling, Suarez.
Subs: Jones, Carragher, Coates, Suso, Shelvey, Cole, Sahin.
Referee: Jon Moss
Great tackle by Skrtel to cut out the danger as It is all Swansea early on.
Thanks - I should be okay today.
Sterling had a chance but didn't really connect with it.
Decent save by Tremmel from Sterling as Liverpool had their first shot on goal this match
I think Wenger should be fined. Is he familiar with freedom of the press? I am sure the Arsenal board were none too pleased. SAF has never done that in his years as a manager. A definite embarrassment to Arsenal FC. I am sure Gooner was shaking his head.
Glen Johnson heads over a corner from Stevie G.
Oh - GLen Johnson had a free header - and should have done better there from the corner.
I think you're right - Premiership managers are contracted to do those post-match interviews.
Reina did wee well to turn a shot from Routledge around the post. The corner was headed away then Liverpool blocked a shot.
Correct and they have the right to defer that to another person , such as Steve Bould. SAF has had Mick Phelan do a few interviews and that satisfies the requirement.
I think we are going for a picnic at a local nature reserve after the late match
I think we are going for a picnic at a local nature reserve after the late match
Suarez was well offside.
Sounds like a nice day out, mate. Enjoy it.
Oh - Johnson whipped a great ball over and Enrique didn't know whether to volley it or head it toward goal. Suarez would have buried that chance.
OH! Enrique made a run into the box and slid a shot wide from a cross by Glen Johnson.
Thanks mate. The girls like going there.
I found a few places do karaoke. There is a bar that does on Friday nights near my house and a a couple of restaurants. The bar is a tiny place. Also timed the drive to SPI. It is about 55 minutes.
Sounds like the plans are well afoot for the reunion.
Glen Johnson seems to be Liverpool's greatest goal threat. The keeper did well to block the shot in the end. No doubt about it - Liverpool have started the brighter and have had the better chances so far.
Just back from the loo.Liverpool have improved the past few weeks. I guess Rodgers is starting to stamp his authority on the team.
Liverpool starting to look like Barca.
A shot from Suarez is easily blocked and Swansea finally have the ball.
Oh - nice curling effort from Hernandez, Swansea's best player today.
OH! That was the closest chance of the match as Pablo Hernandez curled an effort from 25 yards out just wide,
DeGuzman was greedy there and tried apop with his left peg. A waste.
The plans are definitely flexible and if something comes to mind please let me know. I am still brainstorming. The girls wanted to go to the beach Friday and that is why I timed it.We can definitely go there if you would like to.
Definitely a poor shot from De Guzman after Stevie G was dispossessed.
Hard to believe thirty minutes have already been played.
Poor from Tremmel and Suarez had a chance to extend his GBB lead.
Now it's Sterling off the Sunday Roast!
Suarez has a shot blocked by Rangel for a cornerr after Tremmel missed the cross from Sterling after a nice pass from Johnson.
OH!OFF THE BAR FROM STERLING OFF THE CORNER, THEN JOE ALLEN VOLLEYS HIGH AND WIDE.
Enrique does have it in the net this time but it's ruled offside. Tight decision. Nice little chipped ball by Suarez.
Jose Enrique has a goal disallowed for offside off a pass from Suarez. He is furious and was offside by about an inch, Really close.
Are you up for a trip to the Island? Also, the nature trail is a five minute drive from the house.
I am, indeed - sounds great.
An ambitious effort from Michu is easily blocked.
Cheers mate.
Suarez goes past Chico Flores, but not Angel Rangel
It seems like when not if for that Liverpool goal.
Suarez wins a Liverpool corner.
Another chance for Glen Johnson as he heads the corner over.
I wonder if UWS is watching the match from bed or did he turn on FSC and think that there is not an early match?
Yeah - I suspect that UWS is having a lie in and watching it on the telly in the bedroom.
Chico Flores is down and I heard him screaming when he fell. A clash of knees with Jose Enrique.
He seems to be okay as there is one minute of stoppage time.
One last chance for Liverpool before the interval.
That's it for the first half - I'm off to clean up.
Late Liverpool pressure , but they can't get a shot off and there goes the halftime whistle as it is 0-0. A decent first half.
The second half is underway from the Vetch Field as Ki is on for Schechter
I guess I am a libero as I just finished sweeping around the house,.
Too long from Ki as his first contribution was poor.
A really quick break from Sterling , but the long cross from Enrique was too high for Suarez.
I'm back for the second half now - any changes?
A sloppy pass from Michu and Liverpool break, then they cough it up.
welcome back. There was one change : Ki for Schechter. No changes for Liverpool.
Nice job with the libero role in the house. Are there some RVWs in your household this morning?
Great to be back squeaky clean and ready for action . I was sweeping around the house at halftime, but that does not make me a libero.
Ta, BD. Every other human in the house is an RVW, but not the pets.
Sparky and Fred are keeping you company?
Poor foul by Joe Allen , just outside the box, helping his former teammates.
Free kick chance now for the Swans. I'm feeling a bit goal-starved after the Arsenal late one and half of this one.
Hernandez - well over the bar - where's the quality? UWS asks from the bedroom.
Too high by Pablo Hernandez.
This is rather like the first half, starting with lots of earnest scurrying but not much else.
Sparky must have heard you because he was out back barking then scratched to come in as i started typing. Fred asked for brekkies and water, then went into hiding.
Fred must have heard you as he was hiding just three feet away and just started a fight with Sparky. They're going at it like a bunch of toddlers.
Stevie G shoots straight at Tremmel after his initial effort was blocked.
Sterling wins a free kick
Sounds like quite the cabaret you've got there, MUR. Can't wait to meet the "toddlers."
Sparky scratched to go back to bed with Elizabeth. Fred is roaming around the house.
I took the girls to DQ yesterday evening for chocolate dipped "VANILLA" ice cream cones and a look at some oldie classic cars
Oh - Michu had a half chance with the near post header. Nicked off Agger on its way through to Reina.
Michu heads straight to Reina off a cross from Pablo Hernandez. Is this La Liga or the BPL?
Nice one - I can usually murder a Blizzard at DQ.
I guess the cottage cheese didn't settle well with Arsene. Have you had a blizzard recently.
This match definitely has the feel of La Liga - lots of technical stuff with little outcome.
Not since I moved up from Florida - I don't know of any DQs locally.
WHERE'S THE QUALITY? Speaking of that Sotton vs Newcastle kicks off in about ten minutes. I will look for a link.
There are two in Harlingen and lots throughout Texas.
Never a pen as the player went down too easily.
Routledge seemed to be clipped and takes a tumble into the box. Referee not pleased.
Routledge has had enough - Nathan Dyer on for him.
Now Nathan Dyer is on for Routledge
I thought it was a great tackle on Agger. Not a pen there either
Reina punches away a corner and Dyer has a shot blocked for another
Ashley Williams heads well wide from the next corner.
Naughty by Macca to Ian.
Chico Flores is the first player booked as he fouls Suarez just outside the box.
Agger heads straight to Tremmel off the free kick
Shot well wide by Suarez after the Swans failed to clear a pass by Stevie G
Brave keeping by Reina as dyer was through. Both players are done as they are underway from the Dell
An early Sotton corner was cleared
The RVWs in the Gooner household have just roused themselves, so I'm joining them in the front room to watch the rest of the match.
A wet surface at the dell as there was rain prior to kickoff. Pouring on the South Coast
Cheers, bD. Please send my regards to the RVWs. I guess mine should rouse in about an hour.
Joe Allen is replaced by the useless Stuart Downing on his return to the Vetch Field.
Now it's Michu who goes down under a challenge in the box. Still not impressed.
Ba heads a cross from Shane Ferguson well wide.
There should be goals at the Dell.
Poor acting by Michu
Sotton were in League One when Alan Pardew was in charge.
Gooner joins us just in time to see Luis Suarez take a tumble and grumble about it. Fancy that?!
Swansea win a corner as Michu had a shot deflect off of Enrique.Reina punches away the corner and Liverpool break as Suarez shoots straight at Tremmel
Still goal starved - no goals in the last three Prem games.
I am sure Gooner preferred a different first sight.High and wide by Ki,.
Gaston Ramirez was fouled just outside the box and the ref played on , but the Saints did not take advantage,.
Augustien is on for De Guzman
Jason Puncheon shot right at Krul after his cross was cut out
Bagel, coffee and grapefruit have just been delivered.
Swansea fans seem to be enjoying every misstep by wee Joey Allen.
A free kick from Pablo Hernandez was deflected just wide.and the corner was headed well over by Ashley Williams.
Morning boys
Sorry I am late joining you today but slept in a little and then made a bagel run. We still have the limeys staying with us.... didn't miss much?
A heavy touch by Dyer prevents him from taking that chance.
Just put a link on for the Sotton Toon match. Scoreless after 15 minutes
I think Joey Allen has been subbed by the even worse Stuart Downing. Great brekkies. I had fried eggs and English muffins with my morning coffee.
Morning, UWS - you've missed nowt. The commentator keeps on praising both as "great footballing sides," but I want to see the ball in the old onion bag.
Good morning UWS and Good Morning DC RVWs.I am watching the match at the Dell too.
Well sated BD as there are four minutes of stoppage time at the Vetch Field for us to be put out of our misery.
Bagel runs are my favorite type of running, UWS.
Krul rushed out of his box to clear a Sotton attack.
Great save by Tremmel from Shelvey.
Offside by Rickie Lambert
This result will keep Swansea in 8th. Liverpool in 11th.
A drop ball to end the match at the Veetch. No it is given to tremmel
a corner from Shane Ferguson is far too high
It finishes 0-0 at the Vetch as we are put put of our misery. Still 0-0 at the Dell.
The referee has mercifully blown the whistle on a really tedious affair.
A nil niller... just what ESPN wanted
Lat two matches live on TV...120 minutes... NO GOALS
Good morning DC RVWs.
Plus 22 at the Dell equals 142 minutes
Sotton counter and Lallana wins a free kick just outside the box as he is fouled by Shane Ferguson.
Spot on, UWS - I'm really goal starved now. I expect a seven goal thriller in the late one.
The free kick from Gaston Ramirez was well save by Tim Krul.
I agree too. Hopig for some goals from the Dell , Upton Park, and Stamford Bridge.
Did you see that the ex Chelsea, Ex QPR and ex Man United manager Dave Sexton died today at the age of 82?
Elizabeth is the first RVW up at our house,.
Elizabeth is the first RVW up at our house,.
lots of goals at the Bridge but not the majority of them for Citeh
No, I did not . Sorry to hear that. He was also manager of the England Under 21 team. Thanks for the information, UWS.
Agreed, UWS. Who would have placed a wager at the start of the season on us wanting a win for Raffa in his first match in charge of his next club?
It is strange. I was just reading my United book in the loo last night and looked at picture of Sexton and Gordon McQueen after the big Scot signing from Leeds!
McQueen's quote..."99% of players want to play for United.. the other 1% is lying!"
Still no goals on Alan Pardew's return to the Dell.
Classic McQueen! I think I read that book too., Sounds familiar.
A Chelsea win would be my second choice. I think a draw would be good!
gossip going around that Arry wants to bring Beckham, Scott Parker, Crouchie and Defoe in to Loftus Road
Lambert hits a great free kick off the post/crossbar
Great save by Krul from Puncheon after a great run by Gaston Ramirez.
Gordon was humoring the Mancs, IMHO.
GOAL!!
The Saints have taken the lead!
Krul out of box and the ball gets knocked back and it finally goes in
I missed the free kick as I was in the loo. Sounds like Arry wants a Dad's Army ego maniac team. Not necessarily a recipe for success, but perhaps just enough to survive
There's a shocker from a Leeds fan
Missed the goal due to technical difficulties. Perhaps it will be ion the halftime highlights.
The Saints rise out of the danger zone and Villa dropping into the drop again.
Southampton almost double their lead... Great block by Taylor
Taylor blocks a rocket from Schneiderlin
A poor corner is cleared
A poor corner is cleared
I have a question . Does Raffa consider Wenger to be a superior manager because both don't know how to conduct themselves at press conference?
Fair point, MUR - I'll pass your insights along to the Gooner.
Useless attack by Newcastle
Biscuits in the oven. Melanie is the next RVW and Jacquelyn just popped out.
Ta, BD. Gooner will love that
Williamson is booked as he fouls Gaston Ramirez.
Sounds good, MUR - what do you top your biscuits with? Jam? Honey? Apple butter, perhaps?
The free kick from Ramirez lands in Row W.
Just butter on mine. The girls like jam. How about you?
Gaston Ramirez hooks an effort well over.
I had a feeling there would be a goal as the Dell is usually good for a goal. One minute of stoppage time.
Halftime and 1-0 to the Saints.
Now I know why they are called Aston Vanilla as they are the only team to have lost at the Dell this season.
Teams news out of Stamford Bridge today:
Chelsea: Cech; Azpilicueta, Ivanovic, Luiz, Cole; Ramires, Mikel; Mata, Oscar, Hazard; Torres.
Manchester City: Hart, Zabaleta, Kompany, Nastasic, Kolarov, Barry, Y Toure, Silva, Milner, Dzeko, Aguero
Just saw the goal. Scrappy and horrible Toon defending
That could be the last match for a while for Obi Wan Mikkel. Also part of Cashley's farewell tour.
We have a grapefruit tree tree in case you are interested.
Very interested, mate. I miss the great fresh citrus from Florida. Are the ones off your tree sweet?
Alan Green, BBC Radio 5 live, at Stamford Bridge
"I cannot see Rafael Benitez being accepted by Chelsea fans, he's as likely to succeed here as he would be at Old Trafford."
Tottenham and West Ham kick off at the same time as the Bridge
Correct, BD. Better than the ones in the stores we have a huge tree in the back yard. Alan green makes a good point, UWS.
Citeh lost their first match of last season here too!
Correct , UWS. London calling.
I agree with you, UWS - Rafa's just a place keeper for Pep Guardiola IMHO.
I remember that, UWS. It was a Monday nighter in December. Hope they do the same today
That is what I am thinking, BD.
A link from WHL as the teams are coming out of the tunnel
My link is from FSC +
Are you interested in citrus, UWS?
I am thinking of switching to the match at WHL to make it an all London affair.
Off at the lane
from the Dell to WHL at the peed of light as Raffa and Roberto exchange pleasantries.
Come on, you Hammers, says Gooner Steve.
And we're off at the Bridge.
And off at the Bridge about sixty seconds later
I think I will go for the Hammers too. Nice of Gooner to support WHR
Useless effort from Dafoe. Typically naughty by Barry on Ramires.
