Lakenheath Old Boys
We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Back for the match now. Here are the teams on show at Villa Park this evening:
Villa - Given, Lowton, Vlaar, Clark, Bennett, Ireland, Delph, Bannan, N'Zogbia, Benteke, Agbonlahor.
Subs - Guzan, Bent, Holman, Weimann, Stevens, Lichaj, Carruthers.
Bradford City - Duke, Darby, McHugh, McArdle, Good, Hines, Jones, Doyle, Atkinson, Hanson, Wells.
Subs - McLauglin, Ravenhill, Reid, Thompson, Connell, Nelson, Turgott.
Villa old boy Dean Saunders in the studio hoping for the best for his old club.
Paul Lambert has somewhat rolled the dice with a very attacking line-up. He obviously wants an early goal to settle the nerves. Great atmosphere in Villa Park tonight.
Ex-LUFC Factor tonight - +2 with Fab Delph and Barry "Bloody" Bannan starting. Eric Lichaj is also on the bench.
The Bantams to get us started in their change strip of gold and black.
It's Martin Tyler doing the commentary. Lovely.
Phil Dowd has an early decision - Fab Delph lunges in. Could have been a yellow.
Free kick swung in but cleared out. Bradford did well with the set pieces at Valley Parade.
All Bradford so far - so much for Lambert's strategy of hitting Bradford early. The Bantams look like they've got some purpose.
First chance for Villa - N'Zogbia does really well to cross toward Benteke who heads wide under pressure.
Oh - Wells was nearly clean through on goal. Just couldn't control it. Shame. End to end stuff.
Villa now have a free kick chance floated in by Vlaar toward Benteke. Cleared out.
Oh - Benteke with a great header down and Lowton nearly got on the end of it. The cross again was from the lively N'Zogbia.
Impressive noise coming from the home support. They sense a Wembley day out that would make up for the disappointments of this season.
Bannan coughs up the ball in midnight but Bennett bails him out.
And now Bannan wastes a chance to cross the ball in after some more good Villa approach play. Get him off!
Bennett gives a free kick in cheaply. Bradford City can swing another dangerous one in.
Hanson got up well but couldn't find the direction.
Ireland broke through but couldn't find Ags who's been well marshaled so far.
So Bradford have weathered the first quarter of an hour of heated action here at Villa Park. They'll be pleased so far.
Oh - Benteke got up well there but headed straight at Duke.
Delph marauds through the midfield but then blazes well over.
Nice ovation for Stan Petrov at the 19th minute.
Oh - Ags nearly scored at the end of that minute of applause. That would have been a true tribute.
Lowton, the right back, is basically camped out in the Bradford half at this point.
Clark gets the first yellow card of the night for a foul on Hanson.
Villa fans not really loving Phil Dowd right now.
GOAL! Benteke finally comes good and the third or fourth opportunity!
I am here and as soon as my link opens... Betenke scores!
Game on
Long ball through from Joe Bennett and Benteke attacked it with verve. Great header!
1-0 Villa!
Afternoon, UWS - how are you, mate?
So, one more goal for the Villans puts them into the Wembley final.
I am okay
Dropped Tom off at school yesterday
Awful trip home. The snow was really heavy and I was going 30 mph for most of the way
Not sure why the League Cup semi final is a two-legged affair now. Has that been the case for a while?
I'm sure, mate - it's pretty scary out here too. Glad you're home safe.
Away goals only count after extra time. So if Villa get another one and win 2-0 then it will be 3-3 and it will go into Extra Time... They would be in the Final if nothing else happens
Ireland's got it in the net now, but he's flagged offside.
The semi has been a two leg match for the entire history of the Cup. It was the big difference between it and the FA apart from only League teams
Thanks for the clarification - lots of different rules for the League Cup now.
Villa really on the march now. Lowton's cross earns another corner.
Really? Well - bugger me. I had no idea. I do like that they're not playing a semi-final at Wembley. That cheapens the FA Cup Final IMHO.
Oh - great save by Duke to tip over N'Zogbia's drive!
Why does the Bradford City fullback keep allowing N'Zogbia to jink inside on his favored left foot!?
Martin has sympathy for Bannan - I have none.
The Final was a two legged tie as well
It didn't become a single match until 1967
QPR beat WBA 3-2 at Wembley
I can't see Bradford escaping this tie now
Here's another chance for Bradford to lump a ball into the box from a set piece. Their main strategy.
I agree with you about the FA semis.. I hate it
It doesn't look good for them now, does it? That away goal for Villa was a killer. 0-3 might have been too much.
Oh - Ireland fires at goal and Matt Duke tips over again.
And Benteke nods over from the corner.
Leeds get another mention!!
Beaten finalist in 96
United lost to Villa in the 94 Final. That was the one competition United lost that season! Could have done the domestic treble!
Nice one!
Bradford finishing strong in this half.
Ags leans on the fullback and gets no sympathy from Phil Dowd.
You are the official LOB historian, mate. And MUR is the Statto.
Gooner is wondering who this Gervinho fellow is and why Arsene Wenger hasn't signed him:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=unaRmgrVG-o
LOL!
Just wide by Benteke... Bradford escape... just
oooh... so do Villa!
Oh - Wells nearly equalized there. Given tipped around.
Bradford do survive to the half
Could be a long 45 minutes for the Bantums
Half-time, then. Villa had made some headway but still need at least one goal. On a tightrope.
Alas - I have to leave for a meeting. Enjoy the second half, mate!
Just watched you vid.. I guess Arse have to change their shirt colors!
We are off for the second half of the second leg.. .will there be more
The extra rule has advantages for both sides
The home side get an advantage of playing an extra 30 minutes in your stadium
The away team gets an advantage of scoring in extra time counts double!
Villa have a free kick blocked by the wall
The 26th of April, 1962.
Hank Marvin and The Shadows were at number one with the classic instrumental 'Wonderful Land', The Ranger 4 spacecraft crashed into the Moon, and even more unlikely, Rochdale reached the League Cup final.
It's been 50 years and counting since a team from the fourth division reached the final, and perhaps there has never been a better chance than tonight.
GOAL... TO BRADFORD!!!!@
THEY'RE WINNING 4-2 on AGG!
Another lovely header from a corner!
Bradford are at least equal... if not on top!
What a chance... Hansen misses a sitter of a header six yards out in the center of the goal... hits it wide
That would have been Wembley
We now have 20 minutes to go and Villa need two goals to take it to extra time
Bradford hit the crossbar!!
Villa haven't seem to have a clue right now
They look the higher league team
Villa have 6 minutes to stay in the League Cup... they need TWO goals!
Corner to Bradford
Wow - I'm just home after my meeting and Villa are in real trouble!
Some of the Villa faithful are leaving Villa Park already!
This half is totally different to the first half
Bradford will have knocked out THREE Premier League clubs in this cup run!
Just reading over your comments - it doesn't sound like Villa have had many chances in this half.
Through ball to Ags but he was flat-footed. Duke collected.
GOAL! Weimann gets another back for Villa!
3-4 on aggregate now!
They are two minutes away from Wembley
VILLA SCORE IN THE 88th MINUTE!
Game on?
The Bradford speed merchant winger will get a rocket from his boss for not running that one into the corner flag. He crossed instead.
Definitely game on now!
Martin Tyler thought their right winger should have taken it to the corner and waste time instead of crossing. Villa go straight down the other end for Weimann to score
Now Shay Given is striding up the pitch!
Given bringing the ball up to the half way line as the 90th minute ticks over
FOUR ADDED MINUTES
Corner to Villa
Oh - that corner could have gone anywhere. Bent nearly onto it!
Header won but the flick missed at the back post
1 minute of the 4 played
Come on, the Yorkshiremen!
Hey Bob... didn't notice you joining... sorry mate
Just about two minutes left for Villa!
No worries, mate - this is a Thrilla at Villa!
Now the Bradford player does take it to the corner... nasty tackle by the ex ER man... that will waste quite a lot of time!
Wow - Delph goes straight through the player again - that could easily have been his second yellow as he fouled badly in the 2nd minute.
Bradford want to keep it there... they win a corner.. more seconds ticking away...
No players in the box
First corner I've ever seen where there's no one in the area apart from the keeper!
Less than one minute.. finally have a chance to kadumph it forward... cleared
30 seconds away
Got to be close to time up.
Last chance saloon!!
Panic in the Bradford area but finally cleared. Now a throw.
That's it - Bradford City are in the Final at Wembley!
IT IS OVER!!!
BRADFORD CITY HAVE MADE THE LEAGUE CUP FINAL
BRADFORD CITY ARE GOING TO WEMBLEY!!!!!
They deserved it!!!
Sensational scenes at Villa Park - the Bantam fans are going absolutely potty!
Come on Swansea... it's your turn now!!
KNOCK OUT CHELSEA!!
I am off to my first class at the college tonight
Take care Bob
TTFN
Absolutely well deserved for the Bantams - well done!
Cheerio, mate - have a great class!
Just before I leave... if Swansea make the Final tomorrow it would very ironic!
Year 2000
Bradford City... Premier League
Swansea City... Fourth Tier
Now?
I just watched what is one of the greatest upsets in English football history. Who would have thought that the Bantams would be in a major Wembley final. They deserve it over a pathetic Villa side.I sure hope it's Swansea vs Bradford in the final. The Capital One Cup has been the better cup so far. As UWS stated, a great turn of events since 2000.How has Paul Lambert not been sacked. I guess Randy Lerner loves seeing Villa plummet.
I'm back on Wednesday afternoon for the Swansea v. Chelski match.
Hello Hello Hello, BD. How have you been? It will be difficult to match the drama from yesterday
The team news at the Liberty today:
Swansea: Tremmel, Rangel, Chico, Williams, Davies, Britton, de Guzman, Ki, Hernandez, Michu, Routledge.
Subs: Vorm, Graham, Dyer, Lamah, Monk, Shechter, Tiendalli.
Chelsea: Cech, Azpilicueta, Cahill, Ivanovic, Cole, Ramires,
Oscar, Lampard, Hazard, Ba, Mata.
Subs: Turnbull, Luiz, Torres, Ferreira, Marin, Terry, Bertrand.
Referee: Chris Foy
And we're away at the Liberty. Swansea of course come into this one two goals to the good. Chelski will have to hit them early doors.
Do you have a link for the match?
Oscar goes down in a heap looking for a free kick - Foy says "no."
Afternoon, mate - yes, here's the link I'm on:
http://www.thefirstrow.eu/watch/164862/1/watch-swansea-city-fc-vs-chelsea.html
An early airing of the old Beach Boys classic - "Sloop John B" - it's getting a bit overplayed IMHO.
I thought there was another link from BEIN sports. I don;t think I will be able to get this one from work, but I will try.
Agreed, BD.
Shut it, Generic!
Getting some pop-ups, MUR? You're not missing much - a slow start to the match here.
That is good news for Swansea . I would love to see a Swansea vs Bradford final
Nothing going on so far at the Emirates either. This is Arsenal's game in hand, so they'll want to take full advantage, otherwise Liverpool will start to get ideas.
Now it's Demba Ba down in the box but Chris Foy is keen not to give any penalties tonight. Waves play on.
Oh - Michu nearly opened the scoring there. Great save by Cech!
I found a link on BEIN. Lovely. I see it's still 0-0 and 2-0 on agg to the Swans
Just saw the replay. It seems Foy is not keen on booking players for diving either
Indeed, so.
A BIT NAUGHTY BY cHICO fLORES ON dEMBA bA.
Wesley Schneijder to Gala was something I never saw coming.I guess it's all about the paycheck and nothing to do with the quality of football.
Still 0-0 at the 15 minute mark at the Em. Sounds like it's mostly Arsenal.
Another decent chance there and Michu was appealing for a Cahill handball. Foy again unamused.
A long Swansea possession ends with an offside flag.Chelsea blocked two shots. The first was a possible hand ball by Cahill off a shot from De Guzman from a pass headed down by Michu. Difficult to tell
Angel Rangel makes a complete prangel out of that pass. Boom boom!
It was surely ball to hand if anything - I thought it was a good block. If the players had their way, we would have already had eight penalties.
It should me mostly Arsenal. I expect a low scoring affair in that London Derby between the DC area LOB teams.
Hazard's shot is deflected out for a corner.
Hazard has a shot blocked for a corner that was headed away
Well, well - Collison has unleashed a fierce effort to open the scoring at the Emirates.
0-1 Hammers!
Agreed about the penalty and nice one about Angel Rangel as Ashley Williams blocks a cross from Cashl;ey for a corner and nearly 1-0as Hazard had a header headed off the line
Agreed about the penalty and nice one about Angel Rangel as Ashley Williams blocks a cross from Cashl;ey for a corner and nearly 1-0as Hazard had a header headed off the line
As it stands, then - West Ham are back up in the top half and Arsenal are now level on points with Liverpool in 7th. Only two goals to the good.
So much for keeping it tight at the EM. Will that result in a fine by Arsene?
Despite their away form recently, Chelski haven't come close to looking like scoring yet. What are they waiting for?
Definitely BOOM BOOM with Rangel the Prangel
Tough to say. One goal and they're back in it . Too early to write them off.
Decent long range effort from Ramires and a decent save by Tremmel
Hey Boys,
i am home but have to take Jon's friend to practice in a minute so I will be gone for a few minutes
Arsenal and West Ham are drawing on FSC... I hear Arsenal fell behind
Still scoreless in the semi
Ramires launches one but straight at the keeper.
A quarter of the way through the match and so far mission accomplished for the Swans.
Hey there, UWS.
Good afternoon, UWS. I am watching the Capital One Cup semi on a link from work
I just turned on the semi on First Row
I have the Prem match on the TV
I am leaving in a sec but will be back in a few minutes
Podolski has leveled it for the Arse with a rasping drive.
1-1!
Evil Millwall host pathetic Villa in a Friday night cup tie. Would you make Millwall the favorites. The young Villa players may be intimidated by the partisan atmosphere in London SE.
Clearly we should be watching that match, MUR.
So much for a low scoring match. Those DC LOBers must have said something
I wish I could , but I can't get First Row at work. It will be replayed this evening
I'd tip Evil Millwall for that one, too.
Paul Lambert must have pleasured the Skipper. Why else has he been given a reprieve and been spared the plank?
Half an hour gone and Chelski are still no closer to an opener.
Swansea vs Bradford. Either a Welsh club or a League 2 club in the Europa League next season.
He must be on a deal until the end of the season.
Ping pong in the box and Oscar can't quiet connect. It breaks to Tremmel.
Chelski starting to press their case now.
Could be. That will cost me in the PPP.Villa are almost certs for the drop
Raffa not pleased. The assistant catching an earful.
Chelsea players falling down like dominoes at any minimal contact
Those who had Chelski for the League Cup will not be best pleased by this.
Alan Smith would like to date Oscar apparently.
I remember that there were a few.I picked them for the FA Cup , I believe
Fortunately, I have no volume at work
We'll see if any PPPers drop out of the FA Cup this weekend.
Ki down injured, but it seemed a fair tackle by Ramires.
This now resembles the first leg, except without the clearcut chances from Chelsea. Or the outrageous bungling that gifts Swansea a goal on the break.
I am sure Chelsea will win their local derby at Brentford. Just not pleased that kickoff is 6 AM CST.
Ki is better due to the magic sponge!
I could use the magic sponge today - feeling a bit creaky.
Horrible cross from Hazard down the left
I am back and missed nothing..well goals that is
Sorry to hear that. Wishing you a speedy recovery
Correct, UWS. It's looking like Swansea vs Bradford in the final
It's been a pretty tame affair.
Nothing serious - just getting old (sigh)....
But I have managed to avoid the flu epidemic that seems to be swirling around here.
That's what I want to see
One goal and things could all change
Swansea could have had a break there
Ashley Williams has been immense today.
Swansea could have had a break there
Me too. fortunately , our household has avoided the flu.Correct, UWS. A Chelsea goal puts them back in this tie.
Two minutes of stoppage time to come....
Having some troubls with LOB
When I post, it doesn't go thru
2 added minutes in Wales
3 in London... last minute.. free kick for the Arse
Oh - Ba tried to pounce that but flayed it over the top.
Useless effort by Ramires in stoppage time.Agree with BD's comment about Ashley Williams in that stutter sandwich
Decent effort saved and the rebound cleared
The Hammers survive
Have Swansea attacked at all
Looks like they have no one up top
Mata could have found someone there
Half time in the semi
West Ham have a free kick in the last minute
Half-time whistle at the Liberty. So far, so good for the Swans.
Halftime and 0-0 from the Liberty. I will watch the rest of the match from home as I have a class starting. Cheers lads.
1-1 at the Em at half-time.
Matty Taylor to take... useless
Half time at the Em
All squard
Collison scored in the 18th minute
Podolski equalized in the 22nd
Take care MUR
