US v. Canada Live!
It's an unexpected, bumper day of footer today, rounding off with a "non-sanctioned" international between Jurgen Klinsmann's boys and our friends to the north. It'll be an all-MLS affair, so it might be a good evening to scout out some young American talent. I'll be on hand around 9pm to watch on ESPN2 and blog to my heart's content. Join me if you're not watching the American Idol auditions - or some other bollocks.

New of out Elland Road tonight that Luciano Becchio is finishing up a deal with Norwich City who really should have to rename themselves Leeds United South at this point (sigh)....
Tuning in to ESPN2 now and they've got some college basketball game that in its waning seconds now. Let's hope it doesn't go into overtime.
Team news out of Houston tonight:
US - S. Johnson, Beltran, Gonzalez, Beiler, Morrow, Beckerman, Zusi, Davis, Evans, Wondolowski, E. Johnson.
Canada - Thomas, Ledgerwood, Attakora, Jakovic, Morgan, Dunfield, Bourgault, Bekker, Ricketts, Telbert, DeRosario
A lot of chatter about Omar Gonzalez in the preview. I have to admit that the only guys on the US roster that I know are Beckerman, who's the skipper tonight, Eddie Johnson, Graham Zusi, and Wondolowski.
So - here we go. The U.S. in blue getting us underway.
A quick start for the Canucks, DeRosario plays in Ricketts. We were lucky his final ball was ballooned over the touchline.
Landon Donovan is "taking time off" from the US side - what the hell does that mean?
Klinsmann has said that seven or eight of these players on show tonight will be in the squad for Honduras next week.
Oh - DeRosario gets behind the US defense and produces a great save out of Johnson.
Beltran was really caught napping there.
No real pattern to the US play so far.
Now the US has a chance to swing a free kick into the area. Davis over it.
Oh - Eddie Johnson did really well to beat two men at that corner flag and whip a dangerous ball in. No one attacking the back post.
EJ did well to nod that cross down from Beckermann but Wondo was well shielded.
Not impressed by this display so far. We should be able to roll over these mugs.
Hello BD. just arrived home from tutoring someone for the first time in several months. It doesn't appear that I missed much
It looks like an experimental U.S. team. They are not doing much to get themselves into the squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers.
Sorry about Becchio. Is that three ex Leeds players on Norwich?
Evening, MUR - great to have you on board. It is indeed an experimental group. I assume that half a dozen of this lot will be squad players for the coming Honduras WCQ. I can't see any of them starting.
Finally a chance for the U.S. as wondo hads over a cross from Beckerman as the Canucks failed to clear
Thanks for the sympathy - this is the sixth transfer window in a row when we've sold out one of our crown jewels. If Becchio goes to Norwich, he'll actually join three others - Bradley Johnson, Jonny Howson and Robert Snodgrass at Carrow Road.
That sounds about right . I tihnk we play at Honduras a week from tomorrow. Kickoff is oddly at 3 PM CST.
I see the match is being played in Houston. It is ahumid evening which should be similar to the conditions in Honduras next week.
Yeah - unfortunately, I'll miss that one for my class.
No cutting edge from this experimental group.
I have class the first half of the match and I think I have an appoinmetn that afternoon, so I will miss out. I don't even know if it's being televised.
I'm not sure it is either - it would be a dodgy link at best. I reckon a draw is a good result.
Attakora with an errant header concedes a corner for the U.S.
You didn't miss much, mate - I promise you.
The corner is easily cleared.
Good to know. It hasn't been the best of matches.
If anything, Canada have had the best chances in this first half.
As you stated, very few players will make the trip to Honduras based on this poor performance.
Uselss long range U.S. effort from Brad Davis. after a corner was headed out. Into stoppage time.
Why are there two minutes of stoppage time?
A dreadful first half finally ends and it is 0-0
I just checked and for some odd reason the U.S play at Honduras at 3 PM next Wednesday. At least the ir other qualifiers are in the evening so we can watch them.
The seond half is underway from Houston.
That was a really dispiriting performance in the first half. I can't really see the point of playing a friendly a week before a qualifier with a group of players who won't feature in that match.
I agree 100%. A complete waste of time.
Finally a chance for the U.S. and Brad Davis shoots well wide, but a coner is givwen
Pathetic corner from Zusi
Zusi has been atrocious tonight - and I had some hope for the guy.
Headed just wide by De Ro off a long free kick. The closst chance I've seen
I have a feeling Zusi is not welcome at ER.
Not on this form - no.
So the main signings the past few days are Drogba to Gala, Lewis Hiltby to Spuds at the end of the season and another U.S. international possibly to sign for Stoke.
Although, at this point, anyone would be welcome. So far our January business has been:
Out:
Paddy Kisnorbo (loaned to Ipswich)
Luciano Becchio (sold to Norwich)
In:
Alan Tate (On loan from Swansea)
Lewis Turner (On loan from Chester)
Ross Barkley (On loan from Everton)
Best chance all night - Johnson blows one over the top.
I think it's Brek Shea from Columbus going to Stoke, right?
BLOODY HELL!! Finally a decent U.S. build up from Brad Davis and Feilhaber. eddie Johnson finds Row Z
Correct. I was thinkig of Brek Shea. That makes three Yanks at Stoke.
Not sure why Benni didn't start the match. I'd have him in the squad. Not in the starting line-up though.
I wish him well at Stoke. The folks at Columbus, including Someone Said, got tired of seeing him run down blind alleys but I'm hopeful that he might do well in the Premiership.
The loan signings don;t make sense. Why sign someone on loan from non league football? Alan Tate and Ross Barkley maybe. Paddy Kisnorbo is not a regular so that one to Ipswich is okay, but not Becchio. Poor by the new ownership
Juan Agudelo - another flash in the pan IMHO - about to be introduced. Brad Davis off for him. Zusi also off for Alejandro Bedoya.
Aguedelo on for Brad Davis and Bedoya on for the horrid Zusi
I agree - it indicates a lack of purpose and ambition from the new ownership team.
I will be teaching when the EPL matches are on tomorrow.
Captain Birdseye in dsguise , wearing a turbin!
Only Beckerman merits a trip to Honduras.
Decent chance there from Feilhaber to Gonzalez -heads over.
Eddie Johnson wins a free kick.A set piece is the only hope for a U.S. goal.Omar Gonzalez heads the free kick from Feilhaber just over.
I agree - I'm not sure I'd even take Eddie Johnson in this form. Beckerman and maybe Feilhaber.
Henry fouls Eddie Johnson for a U.S. free kick.
Torsten Rocketts heads out the free kick from Feilhaber for a corner.
Poor corner easily headed out
Stupid foul from bedoya
Great name - Torsten Rockets
The free kick is headed away
Fortunately Canada's front line has no cutting edge either.
Agreed, BD. I waish I had thought of that name.
Perhaps Brad Davis did just enough to earn a place in the squad next week.
Bedoya with a decent cross over but Agudelo couldn't direct his header on goal.
EJ trooping off - disappointing evening for him.
Gatt with a great run down the left, but a poor cross. He might have done enough to merit a lon at Argye
Bruin and Morales coming on for EJ and Beckerman.
Will Bruin on for Eddie Johnson while Alfredo Morales is on for Beckerman. Both making theior international debuts.
Poor Argyle.
Bruin will hopefully be a little more grizzly up front than Eddie Johnson
Why would Tony Pulis buy a player who's coming off numerous surgeries?
Hey Boys, I am back from my class and then Matt's game
Still scoreless!
Has it been horrible
Agreed, BD.Better than being a ball boy in a Chelsea away match
Boom boom, MUR! Nice one!
God evening UWS. It has been a real mare!
Free kick in a dangerous position now. I'd have Benni take this one.
Evening, UWS - it has been truly horrible.
Ta, BD. The U.S. have a free kick just outside the box.
Saw your comment about Becchio... what shame!
I hate the thought of teams leaving teams like Leeds(a big club) for teams like Norwich and Reading
That free kick sums up the whole evening....poor.
Norwich were in the third tier three season ago.. why can't players stay at Leeds and get them back up
Feilhaber into the wall. That free kick is typical of the quality or lack of this evening
Unfortunately, right now it seems that Becchio's only chance of playing in the Prem is to go to a smaller club - Norwich - as we don't have any ambition to get out of the Championship.
I don't know why teams don't want to go out and score in these type of matches... there is nothing to lose
Alfredo Morales born in Berlin of a Colombian father. How does he qulaify to play for the U.S.?
I think it's because this experimental U.S. side really sucks.
Matt just commented.. they couldn't have picked a place closer to Canada to play them
Why not Seattle or Portland? Their fans are great
No idea - maybe he's got an American granny?
I agree, BD and UWS. Leeds could have been in the EPL by now if they really wanted to.
Still waiting for the seventh scorer in the FA Cup Final
I don't want to see the answer here either.
I did leave a clue with the last comment
Why would we want Canada to have a home crowd?
Could be, BD.Good point, UWS. The crappy play may be partly to blame for the poor atmosphere
Canada with their first corner ofthe match and it is headed away
Mulling it over, UWS.
Oh - I know, I know, I know....Brian Clough!
I think these experimental players should be ball boys once Hazard returns from suspension. It will teach them a lesson.
Blow up, ref - put us out of our misery!
It is like the moon.. no atmosphere
What an atrocious free kick there
Great Cloughism. He said that all the time , even if he was stumped.
BOOM BOOM,UWS. REALLY HILARIOUS, BUT TRUE.
Armchairs! A buffalo with an aqualung!
I wish the ref would, BD.
No... it's Reginald Maulding
I pity the people who paid for this shower.
Even if it was gratis it would have been a waste of time.
It would take a bottle of schnops to enjoy this one.
Interesting article about shutting the damn transfer window for good
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2270311/January-transfer-window-doesnt-work--Martin-Samuel.html
Like watching an AYA match! Some parents were louder than these Texans.
There has been talk about it . I think it is a great idea.
Drop two tons on these players like they did on Monty Pyton!
Four minutes of stoppage time. WTF!
Not exactly five star entertainment. It's not even one !
I think the tea ladies would have done a better job.
Would the US women have won tonight against either of these teams
Oh No... ESPN'S front page of the internet.. is this match... isn't the Super Bowl this week!
The U.S have a really late free kick just outside the box.
Last chance saloon... free kick chance
SHOOT IT... DON'T CROSS!!
USELESS EFFORT
Played it short and blocked
YOU HAVE A FREE SHOT
I think the U.S women may have got a draw out of this match. The Super Bowl is Sunday as it finishes 0-0
I would say this leads us to Bedfordshire, bt that's an isult to cup heroes, Luton.
Mexico vs Denmark tomorrow at 10 PM EST on ESPN 2.
DUH... about the Super Bowl!
One more thing
COME ON MAN U
COME ON MAN U
COME ON MAN U
It was great chatting despite the dreadful match. I am off to get ready for tomorrow.
CHEERS LADS!
Agreed
COME ON MAN UNITED!
COME ON MAN UNITED!
COME ON MAN UNITED!
Sorry, lads - my Internet connection flaked out on me at the end of the match. Not at all happy with that display last night. Fortunately, none of those scrubs will feature against Honduras next week.
