Who Will Have a Happy Sunday?
A very good Sunday to you LOB community members. I'm up early again to follow today's very interesting set of fixtures. It starts in mere minutes with WBA v. Spurs. That's followed by the biggest game of the weekend - Citeh v. Liverpool. Join me for all the fun.

Team news out of the Hawthorns:
West Brom: Foster; Reid, McAuley, Olsson, Popov; Dorrans, Yacob, Morrison, Brunt; Long, Lukaku
Subs: Myhill, Ridgewell, Thomas, Jones, Rosenberg, Fortune, Tamas.
Tottenham: Lloris, Walker, Dawson, Vertonghen, Assou-Ekotto, Dembele, Parker, Lennon, Bale, Dempsey, Defoe
Subs: Friedel, Gallas, Naughton, Huddlestone, Livermore, Sigurdsson, Holtby
Not surprisingly, it's a Odemwinge-free WBA line-up this afternoon. What a nonsense that was on transfer deadline day?
Good morning BD. Great to join you after a long trip. There were some interesting results yesterday. What is the deal with Peter Odemwingie?
They're off from the Hawthorns!
And Spurs get us underway in this early afternoon match. Let's hope it's an eye opener.
Chris Brunt is flagged offside.
I guess the match of the weekend has been Toon vs Chelsea. I saw it. Good stuff.
Great to have you back in the fold, mate. Missed you yesterday. How was your trip?
Two nasty fouls by Dawson. He's called for the second one.
Thanks BD. The trip was okay. It was long and I got a ticket on the way back for having the handicapped placard on the mirror while driving. I will call the "Maybury" Municipal Court to see if I can do something about that. I wasn't even speeding
Peter Odemwinge has apparently been looking for the exit door at the Hawthorns and has been making public statements to that effect in the past few weeks. That's not necessarily unusual. However, what was unusual was his behavior on transfer deadline day, when he got in his own car in Birmingham and drove to London to try and force a deal with QPR - the bottom club. He ended up outside Loftus Road and made some bizarre comments to journalists. Robbie Savage commented that he had never head of such a thing.
Long was through and Lloris came out to do enough to put him off.
Useless Spurs corner.
Weird - I thought that was where you were supposed to display it?
I guess Odemwingie wasted a trip and now basically his West Brom career
Yes - he's obviously not a welcome element in the dressing room now.
I can only display it when I am parked in the handicapped spot when the disabled person is in the car. It has to be put away when I'm driving. Still picky, IMHO.
Oh - Lukaku had a nice half-chance there. Drove it into Lloris' belly.
Great run and cross by LUFC Academy and headed wide by Clint
Dempsey should have done better with that delicious LUFC Academy cross. Nodded wide.
Sorry about the loss to Evil Cardiff . I am resigned to the fact that they will be in the EPL. The first time in the history of English footie that there will be two top flight Welsh clubs in the same season.
Nice to see that Andy Carroll got his first goal for the Hammers yesterday. I keep hoping he'll rediscover his Newcastle form.
Rooney with his 10th goal for United - and Podolski with another invaluable goal for the Arse. He's got half a dozen, Giroud has 9 and Theo 11.
Great solo run by Bale and Popov pops it out for a corner. Popov pops it out for another corner.
Cardiff are a strong side; I do expect them to win automatic promotion this season. We were apparently on top for much of the match but without Becchio we don't really have a match winner.
I saw the United match , but fell asleep about a minute after Roon scored.I am relieved we hung on for three points. If spurs win then they can cut into Chelsea's lead over them
Foster did well to anticipate that ball through to Defoe.
And Spurs would retake that vital fourth CL spot from Arsenal.
I wonder if Steve Morison can do the job. He had a decent season for Norwich in the Prem last season. I am surprised he didn't feature under Chris Hughton
I heard Desmond left the match at SJP early yesterday because he was tired of watching Chelsea
Dembele drops the should but then slashes his shot well wide.
He's watched them at Brentford , Reading and vs Sotton.
Hard to say, as I haven't seen much of him. He wasn't even on the bench yesterday.
Long was in one-on-one with Lloris there but the French keeper stood up well.
Nice through ball from Dorrans to Long, But Long took too long to shoot and Lloris did well to block
Morison scored at a similar rate to Becks while playing for Millwall.
England hosts Brazil on Wednesday. I can probably blog the first twenty minutes.
A lot of people are saying that Leeds got the better part of the deal; however, it's hard to see that when we've lost our top scorer from the past two seasons.
Yeah - I should be on board for the first half at least. The match starts at 1:30 CST.
Another great run by Bale , but another poor cross.
Then I should be around the entire first half,.
Clint shoots well wide from long range.
Brazil are always fun to watch.
Kyle Walker has a cross deflected for a corner.
A wasted corner by Kyle Walker.
Brazil have played defensively the past few years and recently named Big Phil as their new manager if my memory serves me correctly.
WOY in attendance. Was at Craven Cottage yesterday. Is he watching to see how his former teams fare without him?
Yacoub with a stupid foul on Dafoe in the D. WHY?
Free kick chance for Bale now.
A horrible free kick that will probably injure someone in Row Z
Not sure what that effort from Bale was. There was a gap in the wall. A nice curling effort would have troubled Foster.
He's presumably watching some of the Spurs players - Defoe, LUFC Academy, Dawson perhaps.
Defoe down for the count. Some alternatives starting to warm up.
Defoe getting his ankle taped up now.
I was in the loo and saw that Dafoe hobbled off injured. He will be out Wednesday vs Brazil and pssibly next Saturday vs Newcastle.
I saw the FA Cup Fifth Round matches and saw that Citeh vs Leeds will be the early match on Sunday at 9 AM EST. United vs Reading will be on Monday and I am delighted as I will be off for President's Day!
I've never liked this Spurs away kit and I don't see how it helps with the contrast for the ref. Both sides are essentially playing in black and white vertical stripes.
Poor finish by the Chunk on the break as he was superbly put through
I had a feeling we'd get either the late Saturday or early Sunday slot as we're definitely one of the marquee match-ups.
I agree 100%, BD.
Late Saturday is Oldham vs Everton at 1 PM EST. Early Saturday Luton vs Millwall at 7:45 AM EST
That's a cracking match to get us started.
Two minuites of stoppage time./
I wonder when Chelsea and Brentford will replay. There are conflicts the next three weeks between internationals and the Europa League
Lewis Holtby Signed by Spurs from Schalke. English father and German mum. Your thoughts?
Actually three minutes of stoppage time.
OH! Off the top of the bar by Bale.
Actually tipped over by Ben Foster
Good point - I don't see that fixture in the next week. Would have to be played the following week.
The corner by Kyle walker is headed out and leads to another
Don't know anything about Holby.
Well - that's the end of the first half. 0-0. Off to do some dishes.
A foul is called on Clint on the next corner and it is 0-0 at the half.
The second half has kicked off.
Back from the kitchen duties just in time to see Goran Popov get a red card! Baggies down to ten men.
Like Arsene, I did not see the incident.
BLOODY HELL!!! GORAN POPOV REALLY POPPED OFF AS HE SPAT AT KYLE WALKER AND IS SENT OFF. EAGLE EYES FROM, CLATTENBURG AND HIS ASSISTANT
Looks from the replay that Popov was dismissed for spitting in the direction of his opponent. Silly boy.
I did not, but credit to Clattenburg for being alert
Boom boom, MUR!
That should open up the match.
I did some research at the half. Chelsea vs Brentford will be replayed the weekend of the Fifth Round due to schedule congestion. The winner plays at the Riverside in the Fifth Round on Wednesday February 27th. No rest for Raffa and his boys.
Ta, BD. Bale has a shot deflect off of Jim Morrison for a corner at a Doors concert. The Chunk heads out for another.
Long heads out the next corner as Liam Ridgewell will come on for the Chunk
And it is so
Popov , like Odemwingie, will probably not be welcome in the dressing room.
Liam Ridgewell has been brought on to deal with LUFC Academy. Lukaku has been sacrificed. I still see the Baggies pulling out a draw here.
And Steve Clark immediately has another headache as Shane Long pulls up lame as if having strained a hammy.
Great save by Ben Foster from Lewis Holtby, the Anglo German
Holby broke through there but tried a low percentage shot at the near post. Easily blocked out by Foster.
Idiot announcer! I sated the multinational parentage thirty minutes ago. Get with the program!
I answered the Chelsea FA Cup question. It is an inconvenience for Brentford, who are in a playoff position in League One.
Here is the scoop on Lewsi Holtby as per a wikki:
English father in the RAF who married a German woman. Holtby has three German caps and played in a Euro qualifier vs Azaebaijan in June 2011, a competitive match,so is not eligible to play for England.
Great save by Foster from Bale and now the Welshman is down
Sounds like several of the guys in the US frame - Jermaine Jones, for example.
A wee kip for BD?
We've reached the hour mark and I'm officially goal starved.
Holtby's father, Chris, is a Scouse and an Everton fan. Holtby's nicknames in Germany are Lucky Lewis and Lucky. Like the U.S. guys except Lewis chose Germany instead of England. Poor by Cap as it was during his watch.
No - I'm going to hang with it but I'm being tempted into more debates on FB.
I would like some goals for breakfast!
Haven't been on FB since I got back
Me too - the pumpernickel bagel is long gone at this point.
Did you like the extra Holtby trivia. I probably went overboard on lucky!
GOAL !!! 0-1 SPURS AND WHAT A GOAL BY BALE.
GOAL! A cracker from Bale - he's a matchwinner!
Great work by Holtby, Lennon , and Walker.
Dorrans booked for a foul on Bale that was borne out of frustration.
Hard to see a way back for the Baggies now.
Bale is torturing down the left side now. His shot comes off Reid for a corner.
Agreed, BD. A shot from Bale is deflected into the side netting for a corner. The corner from Holtby is headed out by Ridgewell.
I answered the FA Cup question at 9:39.
Spurs back up to fourth slot.
Clint goes down in the box from a challenge by Olsson. Not a pen
Saw that, MUR - great anoraking on your part.
Looked like a back pass from Jim Morrison to Ben Foster. The first mistake of the day from Clattenburg
Ta, BD. Congestion for Brentford too as they are in a playoff spot with ambitions of s trip to ER next season.
Why is Kyle Walker being booed? Is it his fault that Popov spat?
It's probably more of an issue for Brentford as I don't see Chelski either challenging for the title or dropping out of the top four.
Great save by Foster from Clint as he was put through by Dembele. Billy Gallas on for Kyle Walker.
Yes - I suppose the Hawthorns faithful are blaming him for putting his face in the way of Popov's spittle.
An issue for Chelsea.Internationals on Feb 6th, Europa League Feb 14th and Feb 21st, FA Cup replay on February 17th or 18th , and possible FA Cup match on February 27th. Also the small matter of an EPl match at the Eithad on February 24th.
Poor by the fans at the Hawthorns. Rosenberg on for Dorrans.
Fortune just on too and wins a free kick
The free kick from Brunt was headed away and Bale is on a Spurs break
Fortune was on for Yacob.
Sigurdsson will come on to eliminate the LUFC Academy factor,.
LUFC Academy has a shot blocked.
And there it is. Bye Bye LUFC Academy Factor.,
Sigurdsson's first duty is to take a corner and it is headed well over by Bale.
Handbags between Dawson and Olsson.
Looks like a useful three points here for Spurs. Gooner will not be pleased.
Olsson was the subject of a QPR inquiry , but unlike Odemwingie , decided not to make any rash decisions.
Agreed. I see this ending 1-0
Four minutes of stoppage time.
Bale will need to visit the Spurs dentist!
Fortune wins a late free kick off of Sigurdsson.
Lloris catches the free kick from Brunt at the second attempt.
Bale wins a really late corner
Spurs corner flag it and that's it as Spurs win 0-1 at the Hawthorns,.
Off for a shower before the late match
Just a split lip - he'll be willing to put that past him given that he'll be celebrating a winning goal.
Good solid Spurs win there. 0-1.
Getting ready for the big one. Here are the teams:
Manchester City: Hart; Zabaleta, Nastasic, Lescott, Clichy; Milner, García, Barry, Silva; Dzeko, Agüero. Subs: Pantilimon, Rodwell, Kolarov, Sinclair, Nasri, Tevez, Maicon.
Liverpool: Reina; Johnson, Carragher, Agger, Enrique; Gerrard, Lucas, Henderson; Downing, Sturridge, Suarez. Subs: Jones, Wisdom, Skrtel, Allen, Shelvey, Sterling, Borini.
Referee: Anthony Taylor.
A bright start for Citeh - David Silva pulling a decent tip over from Reina.
Hello lads. Back for Citeh vs Pool.
COME ON YOU REDS!
Hey boys
This is my lost weekend
I wasn't around yesterday and today.. I am around but not around
Sorry...I'll miss the banter
COME ON POOL!
Where is UWS? I thought he would be here for the big un. Is he busy or doing an Odemwingie?
My apologies UWS. There you are. Busy weekend!
The battle of my brothers' favorite teams.
AC Milan play at 1:45 today. Will Balo make his debut?
United host Everton in the late Sunday match next weekend. Three points United!
Manchester hosting Liverpool in the late Sunday match two consecutive Sundays. Interesting.
Great tackle BY Zaba on Sturridge as Hart made a poor decision . Route one from Pool Tame effort from Gerrard blocked off the corner. Another corner to Pool
The corner from Stevie G is headed out
Naughty by Glen Johnson on Silva off a clearance from Aguero
The cross from Clichy is just too high for LUFC Academy.
Suarez wins a corner off a tricky solo run, going past two players
Agger heads down the corner from Downing and Caradonna shoots over from close range
I wonder if BD is involved in a political chat.
BLOODY hELL ! Great run down the left by Sturridge and a shot by Suarez is out for a throw.
Just wide by Suarez as Liverpool are surprisingly the dominant team at Maine Road
BUGGER@! JERKO GIVES CITEH THE LEAD AGAINST THE RUN OF A PLAY WITH A CLOSE RANGE EFFORT OFF A THROW. SILVA PUT THROUGH AND HE PUT IN A SUBLIME PASS FOR JERKO AS LIVERPOOL WERE BALL WATCHING OFF THE THROW.
Stupid foul by L:escott on Sturridge off a long ball.
Miss hit free kick from Downing to Henderson, who miss hits back to downing, who is now offside.
Hiya, UWS. Sorry - I got interrupted first by a phone call and then by having to move my car away from the parking lot because of snow removal. So - I missed Jerko's goal. Any good?
Henderson with a rash foul on Overrated and fortunate not to be booked.
Hello BD. Good pass from Sila to Jerko, but ball watching from Pool on the throw. Citeh's only shot on target the entire match
GOAL! Sturridge equalizes with a rocket past Hart.
1-1!
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!
1-1 AS STURRIDGE SCORES WITH A WORLD CLASS FINISH ON HIS RETURN TO THE ETIHAS WHILE JERKO WAS DOWN INJURED. BOOS FROM CITEH FANS.
While I'm not a Liverpool fan by any means, it is gratifying to see Sturridge's resurgence at Liverpool. Great for England.
Citeh and their boss are still arguing about a foul earlier in the move that like Jerko on his duff. Jerko picked up a yellow for his mouth.
Liverpool players were not obligated to kick the ball out of play and I disagree that Anthony Taylor made an error because he only has to stop play for a head injury. If Jerko was fit enough to get up and swear at the linesman then was he really seriously injured?
Quite right too. Jerko needs to buy a rule book. Corner to Pool.
Corner from Stevie G just out of the reach of Sturridge and out for a goal kick.
You're absolutely right, mate. There is no rule about a team having to knock it out of play when a player is down.
Henderson booked for a foul on LUFC Academy Boy
I don't think Jerko was really injured.Perhaps it will teach him a lesson.
Aguero wins a corner off of Agger
The corner from Silva was uncharacteristically overcooked.
Sorry you had to shovel snow. Sunny and in the 70s today. You make up for it in the summer.
No worries - I actually like this weather. It's bracing.
OH! Nearly an OG by Zaba after a misunderstanding between him and Hart. Corner to Pool
Oh dear - nearly a comical own goal by Zaba who put it past his keeper!
The corner from Henderson palmed by Hart It should have been caught . Suarez straight to Hart. Two minutes of stoppage time.
Are you ready to brace yourself for an exciting second half?
Halftime and 1-1 at Maine Road. Liverpool were surprisingly the better team. Looking forward to an exciting second half.
That's it for the first half. Things are delicately poised for second half action. Off to whip up a bite of lunch.
Some updates. An upset as Nigeria have defeated tournament favorites Ivory Coat 2-1 in the ANC quarters.
Celtic have won 0-3 at Raith Rovers in the Scottish Cup. Dundee have defeated Morton 5-1 while Hibs lead Aberdeen 1-0
The second half is underway from Maine Road .
come on you reds
Jerko wins a corner off of Lucas.
The corner from LUFC Academy is headed well over by Javi Garcia.
BD will be bracing himself for Burkino Faso vs Togo and AC Milan vs Udinese this afternoon.
A free kick from Suarez is deflected for a corner.
Pathetic effort from Stevie G easily blocked as it was laid on a plate for him.
Downing wins a corner off of Clichy.
Suarez wiins a corner off of Lescott.
The corner from Stevie G is punched out by Hart when it should have been caught.Downing heads wide from a cross by Henderson.
Sturridge booked for diving as he tried to win a penalty off of Lescott. The right decision,
BD must be chomping down as he is hungry for another Liverpool goal.
It will have to be mums the word for Jerko or else he will be off for an early bath
Kolorov on for Nastasic.
Caradonna booked for a foul from behind om Aguero
Great tackle by Caradonna on Sila As CViteh win a corner. Nice pass from Aguero
The corner is cleared.
