We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

I'm back after an especially tiresome meeting to do a quick check of the early results and scores:
Full time results:

Spain are 1-1 with Uruguay at half time.
Ukraine have taken a 0-2 lead in Norway
Bosnia are 0-3 up in Slovenia
I am going to be a miss again today
I will be able to have the match in the background but I will be busy working on my APPR

This is the first match of Big Phil Scolari's second tenure as Brazil manager.
I think it's a retrograde move for Brazil and Big Phil has disappointed, naming a side that has a mixture of the new boys (e.g., Oscar) as well as the well past their prime (e.g., Ronaldinho).

And Brazil get us underway, going straight back to Julio Cesar in goal.
Decent ball by Wilshere toward Roon, had to be nodded out for a corner by Luiz.
First corner for England is long, over Roon's head. Dante left the boot in on Wilshere but the Arsenal man is up again.
Second corner over - again a bit long for Cahill.
New hairstyle for Neymar tonight - a bit more muted than his usual parrot-top barnet.
Great interplay between Neymar and Alves but Cahill was quick to sense the danger and knocked it out for a corner.
Oh - long ball over the top by Oscar found Neymar but Cahill again recovered quickly. He and Smalling were initially too square.
Reasonably open match so far - I didn't expect that. Pleasantly surprised.
Oscar with a gorgeous ball over to Fabiano. Didn't get near it. I think he's got to be second now to a number of younger strikers.
Another corner chance for England. Great ball in and...
Oh - Roon got a header on target but it was beautifully saved by QPR's Julio Cesar. Wow!
Oh - Brazil break quickly through Neymar. He laid off to Oscar who got a bit over his shot.
Sloppy there by Johnson and Neymar nearly profited. His shot was blocked out by Smalling. Phew!

Good concentration again from Cahill, snuffing out the threat from Neymar. He's got to be a starting center back in 2014 for us.
Luis Fabiano got behind the back four there but then ran out of puff.

Saved twice and then Cleverley slid in to deny a third bite at the cherry by Neymar.

In truth it was an average to poor penalty by an aging Ronaldinho, just slightly to Hart's left. He did well to get down, though.

More loose play by England there in midfield, this time through Gerrard. They're giving it away cheaply.

Blimey - two quick goals from Aguero and an own goal and the Argies are now 1-2 up within minutes of that opener.

I was sorry to see Mali go out like they did. They were a shadow of the team that got them as far as the Quarters. I guess the expectations of their beleiguered country got to them.

Wilshere's ball through for Theo made the goal there. Cesar did well to save at Theo's feet but Roon was able to drill home the rebound with the keeper on the turf.

That's Roon's 33rd goal for England. He's already 5th on the list of England goalscorers and only seven behind Michael Owen now.

Gooner will not be happy about this. Theo has pulled up lame. He took a knock during that move for the goal and has not seemed to recover.

Coming down to the last few minutes of the first half. England have ridden their luck at times, weathering a penalty and a massive miss by Neymar. But Woy will be reasonably happy with this first half display, especially the enterprising play of Cleverley and Wilshere.
Oh - Theo broke free on the left side and warmed Cesar's hands with his drive. Good break.
