Woy Meets the Boys from Brazil
Wot - it's Brazil this evening? At Wembley? Surely not! Yes, Woy - an understrength England face off against one of the perennial powerhouses of international football. Can you say - "on a hiding to nowt?" Oh - and the US college boys travel to hostile Honduras for a crucial WC qualifier this afternoon. Join me for all the morale sapping action this from 2pm onward.

Jackie to Theo = Gerson to Jairzinho!
I'm back after an especially tiresome meeting to do a quick check of the early results and scores:
Full time results:
Japan 3 Latvia 0
Croatia 4 S. Korea 0
Cyprus 1 Serbia 3
Spain are 1-1 with Uruguay at half time.
Ukraine have taken a 0-2 lead in Norway
Bosnia are 0-3 up in Slovenia
I am going to be a miss again today
I will be able to have the match in the background but I will be busy working on my APPR
The England team in full:
Hart; Johnson, Cole, Cahill, Smalling, Gerrard, Walcott, Wilshere, Cleverley,Rooney, Welbeck.
Your thoughts?
The Englerlund side for this afternoon's match:
Hart, Johnson, Smalling, Cahill, Cashley, Cleverley, Wilshere, Gerrard, Walcott, Welbeck, Roon
Pretty close to my first choice England side these days.
Hiya, Dave - you beat me to it. Good luck with the APPR drudgery. There's one district out here where the teachers are boycotting it.
Good afternoon . I will probably have to follow by text updates because the ITV link is blocked by the District Internet Cops.
The Brazilian side:
Cesar, Alves, Luiz, Dante, Adriano, Paulinho, Ramires, Neymar, Oscar, Ronaldinho, Fabiano.
Afternoon, MUR. How are you, mate?
Wahay - I'm on to the ITV link through First Row. Sorry, mate.
Teams coming out of the tunnel at Wemberley now. Fantastic!
Lots of empty seats tonight and they're trying to pump up the atmosphere with the tannoy.
This is the first match of Big Phil Scolari's second tenure as Brazil manager.
I think it's a retrograde move for Brazil and Big Phil has disappointed, naming a side that has a mixture of the new boys (e.g., Oscar) as well as the well past their prime (e.g., Ronaldinho).
A handful of cold Brazilians in the crowd tonight.
A poorly recognized moment of silence for Bobby Moore there. Disgraceful.
And Brazil get us underway, going straight back to Julio Cesar in goal.
Decent ball by Wilshere toward Roon, had to be nodded out for a corner by Luiz.
First corner for England is long, over Roon's head. Dante left the boot in on Wilshere but the Arsenal man is up again.
Second corner over - again a bit long for Cahill.
New hairstyle for Neymar tonight - a bit more muted than his usual parrot-top barnet.
Great interplay between Neymar and Alves but Cahill was quick to sense the danger and knocked it out for a corner.
Oh - long ball over the top by Oscar found Neymar but Cahill again recovered quickly. He and Smalling were initially too square.
Reasonably open match so far - I didn't expect that. Pleasantly surprised.
Oscar with a gorgeous ball over to Fabiano. Didn't get near it. I think he's got to be second now to a number of younger strikers.
Another corner chance for England. Great ball in and...
Oh - Roon got a header on target but it was beautifully saved by QPR's Julio Cesar. Wow!
Oh - Brazil break quickly through Neymar. He laid off to Oscar who got a bit over his shot.
Sloppy there by Johnson and Neymar nearly profited. His shot was blocked out by Smalling. Phew!
Good afternoon BD. How are you today? Are you watching on the usual dodgy link?
England look a bit short of ideas right now. Cleverley there took the most pedestrian option.
Hiya, MUR - yes, but it's a reasonably good one today, once I got rid of all of the scandalous pop-ups.
Good concentration again from Cahill, snuffing out the threat from Neymar. He's got to be a starting center back in 2014 for us.
Luis Fabiano got behind the back four there but then ran out of puff.
And penalty to Brazil!!!!
That's a bit harsh but Wilshere's arms were raised as Ronny crossed over.
And he'll take as well. Come on, Joe!
Great save, Hart!!!!!!!
Saved twice and then Cleverley slid in to deny a third bite at the cherry by Neymar.
England survive!
In truth it was an average to poor penalty by an aging Ronaldinho, just slightly to Hart's left. He did well to get down, though.
As expected, I am denied access to the usual link. I will follow by text updates. Some updates:
Spain 3 Uruguay 1 a final
Some second half scores :
Turkey 0 Czech Republic 2
Malta 0 Northern Ireland 0
More loose play by England there in midfield, this time through Gerrard. They're giving it away cheaply.
Sweden have taken the lead against Argentina through Jonas Olsson.
Nigeria have defeated Mali 4-1 in an ANC semi. In the other semi it is Ghana 1 Burkino Faso 1 in the second half.
Blimey - two quick goals from Aguero and an own goal and the Argies are now 1-2 up within minutes of that opener.
Goals from Fabregas and a brace from Pedro this evening.
Now the Argies lead 1-3. The Swedes could use a Dahlgren in the center of defense.
Belgium lead Slovakia 1-0
Wow! I don't know if I could stop them.
Eden Hazard has scored a penalty for Belgium against Slovakia.
Johnson tries a pop left-footed from distance. Always going over.
I was sorry to see Mali go out like they did. They were a shadow of the team that got them as far as the Quarters. I guess the expectations of their beleiguered country got to them.
I'm dipping in and out. I think UEFA and FIFA send my clients notes that I'm lonesome on game days.
Better to score a penalty than to pay the penalty!
GOAL! England take the lead through Roon!
Hello Gooner . How have you been?
Wilshere's ball through for Theo made the goal there. Cesar did well to save at Theo's feet but Roon was able to drill home the rebound with the keeper on the turf.
1-0 England!
YESSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!
WELL DON ROON. tHE GRAPHIC SHOWS IT WAS FROM THE EDGE OF THE BOX.
That's Roon's 33rd goal for England. He's already 5th on the list of England goalscorers and only seven behind Michael Owen now.
AN LOB goal as two Gunners combined for a United player to score.
Gooner will not be happy about this. Theo has pulled up lame. He took a knock during that move for the goal and has not seemed to recover.
Who said Roon can't play?
Walcott injured as he ran into Julio Cesar? He wants to continue, but Arsene may not agree. What says Gooner?
I'm sure Gooner would be happier to see Theo and Jack wrapped in cotton wool this evening.
Cahill blocks a shot from Luis Fabaiano. Definitely looking like England's first choice center back
Half an hour gone and England cruising along nicely now.
I would think he would.
Odd that the lights went out in my classroom, but the computer still has power. AM I in the Superdome?
Sounds like it - is Beyonce performing nearby?
No. She is not and the lights just came back on.
Oh - Theo's back up and running but he ran into trouble there when he might have picked out Welbeck.
Well done!
Holland take the lead vs Italy.
Gooner will not be pleased.
Gareth Bale has given Wales the lead vs Austria. Jermain Lens scored for Holland vs Italy
Gonzalo Higuain scored the third Argie goal
Joe Hart with a great save to deny Ronaldinho from close range
Oh - Neymar has missed an absolute sitter, sliding in at the backpost. Great ball over from Oscar.
Should really be 1-1 but we'll take it.
Oh - Johnson cleared off the line there from a looping volley by Adriano.
Oh - Wilshere burst through midfield there and Roon nearly popped the rebound back in as with the first goal.
Coming down to the last few minutes of the first half. England have ridden their luck at times, weathering a penalty and a massive miss by Neymar. But Woy will be reasonably happy with this first half display, especially the enterprising play of Cleverley and Wilshere.
Oh - Theo broke free on the left side and warmed Cesar's hands with his drive. Good break.
Peep peep - the half time whistle goes. I'm quite happy with that.
Back in time after a meeting with a student to see Lamps stick in a second goal. I missed Fred's goal to equalize.
Only fifteen minutes left now - England still 2-1 up.
Woy has made three changes - Lampard on for Clev, Baines for Cashley and Milner for Welbeck.
Inside the last ten minutes now. This will be a very serviceable result for England ahead of that away WC qualifier in Montenegro in a couple of weeks.
And now Milner earns England a free kick. They can bring the big boys up and swing a cross in.
The LUFC Academy quota has gone up to +2 now with the introduction of Aaron Lennon.
Hello Bd. Sorry for the lengthy absence. I had an unannounced parent conference, then class started.
Hey - those things happen. I always have office hours during this time, so I've been in and out. Good scoreline, eh?
We're in the first half of the Honduras v. U.S. WC qualifer. Still 0-0 about 20 minutes in now.
I see that the Three Lions lead 2-1. Burkino Faso vs Ghana went to a penalty shootout. I wonder who plays Nigeria in the final
Jack Wilshere gets MOTM tonight. Can't argue with that - he's been stellar.
Into stoppage time at wembuhlay
I always rated Young Jack.
Hey Boys
I have been impressed with parts of England's performance. I have liked how Rooney, Walcott and Wishire have played
Hope we can hold on for the 3 added minutes and get a deserved victory against Brazil
Rep of Ireland lead Poland 1-0 with fifteen minutes remaining. Italy tie it up in Amsterdam in stoppage time.
Three minutes of stoppage time to come.
Hello UWS. It would be a great result.
Roon still wanting a corner.. good effort
Rep of Ireland now lead Poland 2-0
Scotland lead Estonia 1-0. The Assies lead 1-2 in Romania
Wales lead Austria 2-1 while it is France 1 Germany 1
Hart collects.. that should do it
Apparently, England weren't playing well in the first 20.... I have been pleased with what I have seen
Blow up ref
Blow up, ref - I've got to go teach!
Norn Ireland drew 0-0 in Malta
Hart catches... that is it
Well done ENGURLUND
Still 0-0 in Honduras and I head off to class.
Cheers lads. Enjoy the rest of the week.
Cheers lads. Enjoy the rest of the week.
Take care boys
I am off back to my APPR crap!!
Back at my class break and it's 1-1 in Honduras. Sounds like the usual tight crap when we're on the road in Central America. I'd take a draw and then thump 'em at home.
Full-time in Honduras - 2-1!
Disaster for Jurgen's boys in their opener. When are we going to get a US side that doesn't piss their pants when they get south of the border?
Watched the last few minutes... actually saw the goal.. YIKES TIMMY!
I now have just finished working tonight on the damn APPR and see that Mexico and Jamaica are drawing 0-0 inside SIX minutes of added time.. the Windies are stunned with the amount of time added
The Azteca Stadium fans must have been in charge of the clock
Two minutes to go for a very surprising result
Last chance saloon for Chicharito and co
That's it.. Mexico have dropped two points AT HOME... good result for the US? Keeps Mexico close but gets jamaica off the mark with unexpected points?
USA? Costa Rica and Panama drew with a visit from Desmond
.All six teams have played one game.. the US are bottom of the lot
Honduras has 3 points
Costa Rica 1
Panama 1
Mexico 1
USA 0
Interesting day of footer
WELL DONE ENGLAND... USA.. NO SO MUCH
