Lakenheath Old Boys
We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Morning, MUR - thanks for the post. How are you, mate?
Here's the team news out of Villa Park:
Aston Villa: Guzan, Lowton, Vlaar, Baker, Bennett, Sylla, Westwood, Bannan, Weimann, Benteke, Agbonlahor.
Subs: Given, El Ahmadi, N'Zogbia, Delph, Bowery, Dawkins, Lichaj.
Liverpool: Reina, Johnson, Agger, Carragher, Jose Enrique, Lucas, Gerrard, Henderson, Coutinho, Downing, Suarez.
Subs: Jones, Sturridge, Coates, Suso, Sterling, Shelvey, Skrtel.
Referee: Lee Mason (Lancashire)
I've just deleted my earlier posted thread - I think I just beat you to it by a matter of seconds.
Nice image of two jocular Scots managers - not sure they'll be looking like that post-match.
Villa have come out of the traps quicker - you can tell they need this win.
News out of Blighty is that Martin O'Neill walked the plank yesterday , following the loss to Man Yoo and following a run of disappointing results and performances.
They sure have . Actually it's two Celts as Rodgers is an Ulsterman.
Just by kicking off, Villa have been lifted out of the dropzone on 31 points from 31 matches. But Wigan and QPR have both only played 30 matches now.
Villa have started quicker as Benetke just failed to make the necessary contact to give Villa the lead.
I never quite understand sacking a manager with eight matches to go. What's a new gaffer going to do with the same set of players?
That's right - spot on; Rogers is from Norn Ireland, isn't he?
First corner chance for Pool - Downing hits the first man.
I am not sure. I think Martin was on borrowed time, but I would have waited till the end of the season. ER next for Martin?
Downing trying to be charitable on his return to Villa Park.
Why didn't Weimann hit that first time on the volley after a wonderful header on by Benteke?
I'd certainly entertain the notion of Martin at Elland Road. At one point he was odds on to replace Fergie at OT after his retirement. No one's talking about that now.
Glen Johnson has a shot deflect to Guzan. That looked like handball on Baker and poor defending.
Liverpool is starting to boss the match.
I really like the look of this Coutinho kid - Brazilian or Portuguese?
No chance of Martin ever succeeding SAF after the debacle at the SOL. Moyes must be odds on after the terrific job he's done at Goodison. Liverpool would still be the old enemy.
I think he's Brazilian. Signed from Inter.
Why hasn't Roy Keane proven a good manager?
I'd agree with you - unless Fergie continues to dither and someone else snaps up Moyesy. What if he's offered the Scotland job after Wee Gordon inevitably walks the plank?
A nice cross from weimann is headed out for a corner that is wasted. Paul Lambert is not amused.
Fergie had a brief stint in charge of Scotland following the death of Jock Stein.I don;t see him doing it again , especially as the talent is much lower than it was back then
Mad scramble in the Pool box after that free kick was hoiiked into the box.
And a great save by Reina from Agbon.
Nearly 1-0 to Villa as Reiona saves at close range from Agbon as it is cleared for a corner.Poor corner yet again
Sorry - I meant what if Moyesy is offered the Scotland job? Could he pass it up?
I think Roy Keane has been a poor manager due to his temper and neurotic behavior. Players don't respond to that
Oh - Coutinho nearly sliding in on Downing's cross.
I think Moyes probably won't because none of the big name Scots have taken the job. It's a difficult job to do with a mediocre group of players that aren't good enough to compete at international level.
That's a fair shout about Roy Keane's managerial style. I would not like him at ER as he hasn't proven himself anywhere else.
Guzan does well to push over a shot from Suarez off a pass from Glenn Johnson. Applause for Petrov
True - the Scots job is a thankless task with the likes of Robert Naismith as the bright lights despite not being able to get a game at Everton.
Guzan catches the corner then naughty by Lucas on Agbon.
And he's one of their best players. Also, I don't blame you for not wanting Roy Keane at ER. Martin is a much better bet.
UWS must be having an Easter Sunday lie-in with the missus - no word for the Easter Bunny yet.
Yeah - you can at least look at his stints at Villa and Celtic as successes.
Celtic lead 0-1 at St.Mirren at the half. If the hoops win then they are only four points away from clinching yet another SPL title.
Oh - Coutinho links up well with Suarez but the Uruguayan was well marshaled by Baker.
Also at Leicester City. The only problem is that he won't have money to spend at ER and that is why he left Villa. It may be a stumbling block.
The Blue Bunny and the Pink Bunny must have decided that a lie in is more entertaining than the match at Villa Park.
That picture of the two managers was the direct opposite of the one I posted.
weak long range effort from Agbon after a great run and twist.
Poor trip by Carradonna on Beneteke. The old man was well beaten for pace.
A free kick from Bannan headed out for a corner.Decent corner , but everyone missed it and it was cleared away
Well - I keep hoping that the new ownership team will see the potential of Leeds getting promotion and making them some dosh if they just spring for a bit of cash for a few new players. We've proven very resilient over the past few years, despite being gutted of our promotion side. Of that side we've lost Schmeichel, Beckford, Becchio, Gradel, Johnson, Snodgrass and Howson. And yet our league position has been relatively stable. We're only three points shy of where we were last year when we still have Johnson, Snoddy, Becchio and Howson on board.
Suarez with a great mazy run and then hit a tame shot at Brad.
Suarez straight at Guzan
GOAL! Benteke with a priceless one! His 18th of the season!
GOAL !!! 1-0 VILLA . GREAT FINISH BY BENETEKE.
Great lay-off from Gabby Ag and Benteke hits it wrong-footing Reina.
1-0 Villa!
Benteke, the big Belgian, is single-handedly keeping Villa up.
Craig Burley with some dour thoughts about the current Scots set-up.
Seconds earlier Suarez shot tamely at Guzan then gave away possession in midfield. A nice long ball was headed down by Agobn and nicely finished by Benetek.
Villa with that goal have leapfrogged Sunderland into 16th on 33 points.
Great tackle by Baker on Stevie G for a corner then Pool win another
The next corner is cleared, then Suarez concedes possession yet again
A loss here today would leave Liverpool six points shy of their city rivals Everton in 7th. And Everton have a match in hand!
There you are talking about Martin's previous two teams! If Villa win then they should be two wins from safety.
A loss would end any hopes of Liverpool getting an EL Spot.I talked to my brother, a Liverpool fan yesterday, and he has already conceded that
Suarez nutmegs a Villa player and then tries an audacious drive from inside his own half. Confident, anyone?
I read your Leeds comment when the goal was scored. I agree. That will be the main challenge to hiring someone like Martin. Leeds will need to start spending. I believe the debt has long been wiped out. Is it the memory of going into administration?
Liverpool's corners have been poor.
downing predictably booed by the Holte End fans.
That must be it. However, no one's suggesting that we go back to the Ridsdale free-spending days. Just hang on to our best assets and build upon that with a few players. We should be in for a couple of the promising Championship level players.
Suarez jumps on a wayward pass there but Guzan bails him out with a great save with his feet.
Baker with another important block from Suarez. Then Bannan loses possession and Guzan makes a great save from Suarez with his feet
Of course the wayward pass came from Barry "Bloody" Bannan.
Suarez wins a Liverpool corner./
Not sure why the Villa fans have gotten so quiet - they're side is up in a crucial match for them.
Great save from a long range effort by Stevie G off a short corner.
It must be nerves at the Holte end.
I would state that Benteke and Guzan are keeping Villa up with a little help from Weimann.
Downing wins Liverpool a late chance from a corner.
Downing wins a Liverpool corner that is easily cleared.
I agree with your approach at ER. it seems really sensible.
That sounds like a fair assessment of the state of things - i'm certainly happy with Brad as a stand-in for Timmy in the US goal. Most international sides would be happy with that pairing.
Halftime and 1-0 to Villa. They're 45 minutes away from three priceless points.
Villa have seen there way through to a one-nil lead at the break. They'll be dreaming of three points in the dressing room. Off for a wee nap on the magical couch.
Hey Boys
Sorry I have been a miss today and late yesterday. I am doing my best impersonation of BD during the international matches!
Keep the home fires burning
Definitely a poor run for Sunderland eight league matches without a win and dumped out of the FA Cup by Bolton at the SOL>. Their last win was 3-2 at the DW on January 19th and their last home win was 3-0 vs the Hammers the previous Saturday
Good morning UWS. How have you been? I would love to see the impersonation.
The second half is underway
GOAL !! 1-1 AS JORDAN HENDERSON SCORES FROM A SUPERB THROUGH BALL FROM COUTRINHIO
GOAL! I'm barely back from the magic couch and the brilliant Coutinho has set up Jordan Henderson for the Pool equalizer. Villa's defense went walkabout there.
The goal was scored a 1:40 into the second half . It started when Weimann was tackled by Jose Enrique just outside the Liveprool box and four passes later Coutinho puts Henderson through
welcome back, BD. I posted Sunderland's grim run of form in Martin's final days.
WOW ! St. Mirren have tied it up vs Celtic. Victor Wanyama was sent off early in the second half for Celtic and St. Mirren took advantage by equalizing
Now Celtic are two wins away from clinching the SPL title.
It finishes St. Mirren 1 Celtic 1 as the Hoops are six points away from clinching the title
OH! Coutinho should have given Liverpool the lead, Great through ball from Suarez and he shot just wide with just Guzan to beat
A spell of Villa pressure and Liverpool finally clear.
OH! A deflected effort by Glenn Johnson is off the post and cleared away
Back with a pumpernickel bagel - this one really is in the balance now.
Suarez has earned a penalty for LiverpooL! Baker dived in - stone cold.
Gerrard takes...and scores! Pool are 1-2 up now!
What on earth did Paul Lambert say in the dressing room?
GOAL!!! 1-2 LIVERPOOL AS STEVIE G SCORES FROM THE SPOT.
Guzan nearly reached that pen but it was superbly placed by Gerrard - his 10th of the season.
I missed the penalty as I serving myself breakfast, but rewound it and saw that it was definite foul by Baker on Suarez.
Oh - Weimann had a big chance there.
LUFC Academy boy Fab Delph on now alongside Charles N'Zogbia.
Nzogbia on for Weimann and Delph on for Bannan as one ex Leeds player on for another. Like for like on both changes.
Another question is what did Brendan say during his halftime talk. It seems to have worked.
Delph has a volley deflected for a corner as a free kick was headed away.A headet from Beneteke is headed off the line by Stevie G off the corner from Westwood.
A miss hit cross from Westwood tipped over by Reiina. the corner is cleared.
So Villa move back into the drop now that they trail
Certainly Brendan was the more inspiring of the two managers in the dressing room. A total turnaround in this second half.
Yes - this would be an excellent result for QPR, Wigan and Sunderland.
Everyone says that Beneteke is single handedly keeping Villa up. What about Guzan. Villa would already be down, but for his numerous vital saves.
QPR have a short trip to Craven Cottage tomorrow, but I do not think it is being televised.
Raheem Sterling coming on for Pool now to replace man of the match Coutinho.
El Mohammedy ids on for Sylla and Sterling is on for Coutinho. The final roll of the dice for Paul Lambert
I didn't see any listing for that match. There should be coverage of the United v. Chelski match - no?
Brilliant ball there from Suarez to introduce Sterling to the match.
Sterling crosses straight to Guzan in his first action.
The replay at Sb will be on FSC at 7:25 AM EDT. I will be around for the first half before I go to work
Ten bookings for Delph? He didn't learn that at LUFC.
Sounds good - I'll be up for that one, for sure.
Pathetic free kick from Downing on his return to Villa Park and the Holte end faithful are delighted.
Are you sure about that? Weren't his formative years at ER???
How did Suarez not score? He made a teasing run thorugh the Villa defense, rounded Guzan, but couldn't get a shot off and Guzan recovered to easily catch a chip from Suarez.
They were but he never had that reputation at LUFC. He was a carbon copy of Aaron Lennon, a bit lightweight but bags of speed
I've got to help out a friend who's just had a new baby, so I'm off.
I'll see you tomorrow morning. Cheerio!
I was just teasing.I do remember him having that reputation.
Cheers mate. Enjoy your Easter .
Just got back from a walk and listening to Sky Sports radio on my IPHONE!!!!
Sky sources say that DiCanio is on his way up to Sunderland for talks
Three minutes of stoppage time as signalled by Webbie. He has gone from officiating a World Cup Final to being fourth official today
Loughton booked for a foul on Henderson.
Actually, it was westwood,.
Hello UWS. Paolo would be a disaster. keeping Martin would have been a better option despite the eight match winless streak.Bob wants Martin at ER.
Beneteke scores, but was two yards offside as flagged by the linesman.
The match ends and Liverpool win 1-2 at Villa Park.
I am off , but will be around for the first half of the replay at SB tomorrow morning. It was great chatting . Cheers lads.
