Thank Goodness It's Saturday!
After an especially heavy workweek, I'm happy to be settling in for a morning of the Beautiful Game. First up is Manchester City v. West Ham on ESPN2. Then in the 10am matches, the focus is on the relegation battle with Stoke hosting Norwich and Wigan hosting Tottenham. In the late one, it's Newcastle against a bite-free Liverpool. Join me for the usual LOB business.
520 Comments:
With only two matches left, there's still a lot of business to sort out in the Championship. For one thing, three play-off slots are still up for grabs with Brighton, Palace, Bolton, Leicester and Forest with a realistic chance of it.
Then the relegation battle is definitely on in the Championship. My dream is still to see Millwall and Not a Big Club relegated. Despite UWS protestations, I still think it could happen. Imagine this:
A Barnsley win against Hull (who are already promoted)
A Wolves win against Burnley (who are safe)
A Posh win against Not a Big Club in the biggie
A Huddersfield win over relegated Bristol City
A Millwall loss to Forest (who are desperate for a playoff place)
It could happen!
Good morning Bob
I won't be around for the whole day today. After the early match, I am off to Cortland. There is a lunch with parents a players and then they have a few scrimmages down in Binghamton at 5.
Of course, I have my iPhone so I will be able to listen to Soccer Saturday on the Thruway!
Citeh kick off and make five passes and almost score. Tev was offside though
Citeh kick us off at Eastlands. A bit of a nothing match really as both sides are finished for the season.
Morning, UWS - hope you enjoy your day out at Cortland and Binghamton. Sounds like a bit of driving.
Do you agree with my relegation scheme for the Championship? Not a Big Club, Millwall and Bristol City to go down?
I do like Sheff Wed but I do want to see the Posh stay up
You did, however, make a mistake
Hull have not been promoted. If they won last Friday at home to Barnsley they would have been promoted... they drew nil nil. If Watford didn't win last night against Leicester they would have been promoted... they did 2-1. SO, Hull are only one point ahead of Watford.
They need a win to be promoted.
Of course, people say it is easier to play someone with nothing to play for but the pressure is off then... they can just play.
Hull may feel the pressure
I guess I would like to see Bristol City, Barnsley and Millwall to go down
I don't want Wolves to drop
Huddersfield could go down too
Fair point - I still see Barnsley winning that one. Watford did themselves some good by winning yesterday.
What about this week's CL results... BRILLIANT
This match seems a bit lifeless already. The fans aren't making a lot of noise.
DId you see my comments at the end of the last two posts?
Fantastic - tiki taka is dead!
No - I'll have a look.
Nothing big...just a few bits about United's championship
Definitely an all-German final now - did you really predict that? I thought Bayern v. Real. Only Matt picked Dortmund - everyone else went Spanish. He could win on that one alone.
However, I fancy Bayern - could be a low scoring PPP this time.
Good morning BD and UWS.It was a long week for me too. Glad to be watching footie. A dull start to this match
Morning, MUR - how are you, mate?
A nothing yellow card there for my mate Andy Carroll.
I fancy Bayern too. They don't seem to be letting in any goals except against the Gunners. They are twenty points clear of Dortmund and about to poach two of their players too.
Great. How are you?I was going to sleep in late since this is a meaningless match, but I went to bed at 10:30 so I woke up well rested.
Oh - Aguero hits the post when it would have been easier for him to score!
That sums up my PPP season.
OH! oFF THE POST BY nASRI AND OUT FOR A GOAL KICK OFF A PASS FROM sILVA THAT DEFLECTED OFF OF nOL;AN.
What about my United tidbits
United have won the Title 20 times.. as much as Arsenal(13), Chelsea(4) and Citeh(3) combined!!!
United are Champions in 2013
20 Championships
13 Premier League Titles
IT WAS ON THE CARDS!!
Nice minute of applause for Mark Vivien Foe.
My PPP season is basically over after Real's horror show in Dortmund.
Decent hit there by Diame
Agreed about Marc Vivien Foe. Classy.
You didn't say that six weeks ago, mate. You were as nervous as a new kitten!
I called the engravers back in January!
Great stat, UWS. I have one. SAF and Giggs are each tied for Arsenal with titles.
Well - if Bayern win the CL, it doesn't harm you, MUR. A Dortmund win basically hands it to Matt.
I knew that one too
I knew that one too
That is why they call you Nostrabobus. I Predicted safety for Leeds about a fortnight ago.
I still think this United team is one of the worst of the Championship winning sides.
Will the Gunners be thinking about that tomorrow?
I'll bet that Nani is tied with Leeds for league titles!
I agree, UWS.Strange to think they have a chance of breaking Chelsea's points record.
I have heard them described as
Not consistently brilliant but brilliantly consistent
too many 1 nillers and hanging on
One nil Citeh... who cares!
That's a bit better from Aguero! GOAL!
Nice Citeh team goal there. Now Aguero just needs to score about 15 goals in the next couple of matches.
It could happen!
GOAL!!! 1-0 CITEH ! A WELL WORKED GOAL DOWN THE LEFT AFTER NASRI PLAYED SEVERAL ONE TWOS THEN AGUERO SCORED WITH A GREAT FINISH
Nearly 2-0 as Jussi fumbled a shot from Aguero then Zabba shot into the side netitng
Just to confirm with you, mate. I'll be in Utica for the CIT conference on May 22-23, staying in a hotel out there before buzzing in to Chez Nocito on May 24 for the weekend festivities. Sound good?
I am confident that I will gets points for picking RVP as GBB. Suarez won;t be around until early October except for a possible, preseason match at Fenway Park or some internationals.
It works out well that it falls during the weekend of the CL Final.
The Hammers are looking terrible - can't believe that they're mid-table. How bad is the Prem!
Should Suarez be called McGruff since he takes a bite out of crime?
So bad that Leeds could crack the top ten if promoted.
I predict that it will all come down to the Nocitos v. MUR. It's all about the top seven slots and the relegation slots.
LOL - nice one, MUR!
I loved that bit of color commentary last weekend - "he went in for a wee nibble."
I bet Suarez would beat me in A Turkey Leg eating contest
Fat Sam is a wee bit agitated now about that offside call.
He certainly has the overbite for it.
He is elligible for the Confeds Cup.
Was Blackburn wrong to sack Fat Sam? They were tenth in the Prem. Look where they are now?
Did you see the names of players for Suarez to play?
Branislav Ivanosandwich
Bacary Lasagna
John Cherry
MacaRooney
Nachos Monreal
Leighton Beans
Sergio Biscuits
Pear Mertersacker
Edible Cavani
Dimitar Burgertov
many more
Can you make some up!!
For example:
UWS has Arsenal rather than Spurs in the CL slot.
And Wigan in the relegation zone.
Thomas has Spurs rather than Arsenal in the CL slot.
And Wigan in the dropzone.
Matt has both Arsenal and Spurs in the EL slots And no Wigan in the relegation zone.
And MUR has Arsenal rather than Spurs in the CL slot. And Wigan not relegated.
Oh - I'd love a Burgertov for lunch!
BOOM BOOM UWS! NOT FOR THE BEANS THOUGH.
You have a lot of spare time and there is no way I could think of more names than that.
The boys sent me these
IS MacaRooney short for macaroni or macaroon?
Well done Nocito Boys!
Either would do!
One minute of stoppage time.
I am off to shave and shower
I'lll be back for the second half
Suarez would like a drink of Oliver BEER Hoff
Halftime and 1-0 to Citeh
Half-time - You should ask Kathy to make you one of those dishes each night for a week.
Back on at Eastlands - zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
The big match today, of course, is......
Brentford v. Donny!
Automatic promotion to the Championship on the line there - what a cracker!
Oh - lovely stuff from Nasri there, flipping it up and over to Tev. Flag stayed down but Reid did well to block.
Hello BD and UWS. I took Elizabeth and Jacquelyn to Wal-Mart. Did I miss much?
WOW! Only a few comments. Is this match that horrible?
Jack Collison is on for Ricky Vaz Te.
Not a lot, mate. What do you think of my Championship relegation dream:
Millwall, Not a Big Club and Bristol for the drop into L1?
I think UWS must have gone on a walkies. I'm just back from a leisurely session on the khazi.
Oh - O'Brien with a terrific block as Tev seemed destined to extend Citeh's win.
Joey O'Brien blocks a shot from Tev for a corner or else Citeh would have been two up. Zaba shoots well wide from the corner.
Your dream may come true, but a lot of other results have to go your way. A distinct possibility.
I see that Young Fergie vs Not a Big Club is a late kickoff.
I am back
Had some errands to do after the shower
I am not going to have time to go on walkies. I have to leave before this match ends!
Is there still a chance Citeh can be caught?
A little but not much
I am feeling a bit peckish
Maybe I should eat some Ashley Coleslaw
What on earth was Collison playing at there? Yellow card for a deliberate handball.
I am bck from the loo. Welcome back, UWS. Would you like some Oliver Beerhoff with the Ashley Coleslaw?
Bit of argybargy between Zaba and O'Brien now - yellow cards all round.
David Silva trots off after an uneventful stroll about in the sunshine. LUFC Academy on - good substitution. Jamie could inject some life into this one.
Handbags between Zaba and Joey O'Brien after a foul by O'Brien who is booked. Milner on for Nasri. Bob will be pleased
I may watch Not a Big Club v. Young Fergie rather than the late Prem match. Want to watch Brentford v. Donny as well. The Prem is boring.
UW won 1-2 at The Crisps yesterday. Good for Bolton , but Hull City can clinch promotion today with a win at Barnsley.
Matty Taylor is on for Kevin Nolan and Carlton Cole for Joey O'Brien. A horrible free kick from Taylor , but it bounced around in the Citeh box and James Collins shot wide.
Aguero only needs 15 goals in the next four matches to pip RVP for GBB - what do you reckon?
It could happen!
I am back from a short walkie as Citeh score number 2
GOAL!!! 2-0 CITEH . YAYA WITH A CURLER IN THE TOP CORNER.
GOAL! What a rocket from Ya Ya!
2-0 Citeh!
This one is done and dusted.
Javi Garcia is on for Tev after a an Argie goal fest in this match
After the walk, I had a Dwight Yorkiebar
Barnsley will win!
Citeh getting three points
WHO CARES!!
How bad are West Ham?! WHR should hang his head in shame!
Donny vs Brentford will decide the second automatic promotion spot.I think Bournemouth is already promoted due to the fact that Brentford and Donny face each other
West Ham are safe and that may influence their lack of effort.
BTW, before I leave
JHJ have been really busy this last week. They have been traveling the country doing interviews with different areas of the BBC network
There was a great interview with Radio Cambridgeshire I listened to on the computer. They went to Hull, Manchester, Derby and others
They had a picture and article in The Times this week
Keep the word spreading
Kolo Toure is on for Nasri
Well Done JHJ! Too early in the morning for sweets
Great save by Hart from Andy Carroll.
I have been promoting them on Facebook, UWS - you could do the same if you were on it (hint hint).
Cheers UWS.
Good point, Bob/
Bournemouth's only other spell in the second tier was from 1987-1990 when Harry was in charge.
A bit dodgy there from Hart as he saved that.
Argyle sweater need only a draw at Rochdale today to clinch safety in League 2.
Four minutes of stoppage time/
Jussi fumbled a shot from Aguero, who shot the rebound inches wide.
There could be an all Welsh playoff final in the conference as Wrexham and Newport County won thee first leg of their semis.
The Hammers trying to scramble home a jammy consolation goal well into stoppage time.
Hart fumbled a cross from Jarvis, but caught it at the second attempt./
Rangers are 2-4 up at East Stirling now.
I am off fellas
See you in Binghamton Bob!!!
TTFN
The Hammers are waiting for the season to end. They don;t really care any more.
Cheers UWS.
I can't believe that Macca and Ian think the Hammers have been good today - they've been rotten!
GOAL! Carroll does get the consolation goal, nutmegging Hart embarrassingly.
GOAL!!!! ANDY CARROLL CHESTS DOWN A LONG CROSS AND SHOOTS THROUGH HART'S LEGS FOR A CONSOLATION GOAL
That's it as Citeh win a meaning less match 2-1.
The win was good for Citeh who are closer to clinching second place Still about six points away
Rangers have won 2-4 at East Stirling, the bottom club, but it doesn't matter as promotion was clinched about two weeks ago.
The menu is Wigan vs spurs on FSC
Everton vs Fulham on Plus
Barnsley vs Hull City on BEIN
I am GOIN with the matches on FSC and BEIN
FSC is talking about the Suarez ban. Rodgers claims it is the FA's responsibility to rehabilitate Suarez. I agree with Waldo that it is Liverpool's responsibility to do that and agree with Waldo that twenty gamers would have been a more appropriate ban.Warren Barton mentioned that Wenger brought up his track record. I agree with Warren and Arsene.
Good for you, mate. Real implications in the upcoming matches. I want goals flying in right from the off.
A weird scenario. If Hull City clinch promotion today then they face Cardiff week in a meaningless match between two teams that will have already clinched promotion
The match has kicked off from the DW. Definite implications as Weigan need the points if they hope to survive and Spurs if they hope to play CL footie next season.
Chris Foy is the ref for the match at Oakwell.
I really hope that Wigan can get something today. That would help both them and the Arse.
They're off from Oakwell. NO Jeff today?
Oh - off the post from Fatty! Close call for Spurs.
Nearly the lead for Spurs as a miss hit free kick from Fatty hits the post.
A scrappy start from Oakwell as both teams need the points for different reasons. That match kicked off two and a half minutes late
My scenario is off to a flyer! Hudders are 0-1 up inside a five minutes at Bristol City!
Posh now deep into the dropzone ahead of their big one against Not a Big Club later on.
GOAL !!! 1-0 BARNSLEY AS JACOB MELLIS GIVES BARNSLEY THE LEAD. HE GOT BEHIND THE HULL CITY DFENSE AND HAD A ROCKET COME OFF THE UNDERSIDE OF THE BAR AND CROSS THE LINE
Big goal coming in from Oakwell - It's Barnsley 1-0 up! Hurrah!
My scenario is paying off big time! Wolves now down into the dropzone. What a thriller!
GOAL! Wigan have thrown away a goal to Monkey Boy Bale!
0-1 Spurs! What a howlers
GOAL!!!! SPURS TAKE THE LAD AT THE DW AS THERE WAS A HORRIBLE MIXUP BETWEEN ROBLES AND THE WIGAN LEFT BACK . THE CLEARANCE FORM ROBLES CAME OFF BALE AND INTO THE BACK OF THE NET.
The goals are absolutely flying in in the championship. Wolves are now 0-1 down to Burnley. That's the first one against my scenario. Wolves now really up against it.
GOAL! Wigan straight back in it! They really needed that indeed. Emerson Boeys with a stonking header from a corner.
What a start!
1-1!
GOAL !!! 1-1 AS EEMERSON BOYCE, UNMARKED, HEADS IN A CORNER.
The Tractor Boys have taken a 1-0 lead against Brum. No real implications there. Ipswich just about safe.
Steve Bruce , a top defender in his day, will be furious , as the goal came from a Barnsley back pass and a long clearance from keeper, Luke Steele. Three passes later Jacob Mellis has the ball in the back of the net as the Hull City defense was very static.
BUGGGGGERRRRRRRR!!!!!!
Brighton have predictably taken an early lead at Elland Road. I didn't expect much from today.
YES! Score another for my dream scenario. Forest are 0-1 up at Millwall.
We need a Wolves goal at Molineux for a perfect slate of results.
Sorry about that Brighton goal.Too Conservative as Will Buckley scored the goal
Bloody hell - Rudy Austin has got himself sent off!
We're down to ten men at the Elland!
But Hudders are now 0-2 up! Wahay!
As it stands, Hudders would be safe.
BUGGER . When was Rudy Austin sent off for Leeds? Now it says Aloha scored for Brighton.
My link is really stuttering today
Yeah - mine is as well. I've tried a couple of links. Link 2 working marginally better.
Loads of goals coming in now. Bolton have taken the lead at Cardiff. Predictable.
Ipswich are now 2-0 up at Brum.
And Charlton are now 0-2 up at Boro. Meaningless match there.
Austin was sent off in the 12th minute for a bad tackle.
Pienaar has fired Everton into the lead against Fulham.
Wolves need a couple of goals quick like.
Steven Pienaar gives Everton the lead vs Fulham
Robbie Brady, the loanee from Man Yoo shot just wide for Hull City
Just over by Kone off a pass from Jordi Gomez.
Chris Eagles , another former Man Yoo player, gives Bolton the lead at Cardiff. WAY HAY!
Jeff has developed a terrible stutter today.
Blackpool take the lead vs Derby County. Both clubs are just about safe.
Thanks Bob. Link 2 is working better
Next Saturday, Wolves have Brighton away. Very tough. They need a win today for sure.
Posh have Palace away - also tough. Need a win today.
Barnsley have Huddersfield - Yorkshire derby. Cor!
Millwall have Derby away. Must win.
Not a Big Club have Boro at home - winnable. Doesn't look good for my scenario. But it could happen!
Hull City have now shown me that they can survive in the Prem . They are being outplayed by the likes of Barnsley
Based on the fixtures, it still sounds like anything can happen.Still too early to tell.
Palace take the lead at Blackburn. Not happy, but I don;t think it will have much impact on Bolton due to the gap.
A draw does not do much to help wigan .They need a win. The match on the final day vs Villa will be immense.
Looking better and better for your Bolton prediction. Do you really want to see them in the Prem though?
Drac off injured for Fulham and replaced by Martin Petric. A huge loss for the Cottagers. Fortunately they are safe
Maynor Figueroa goes off injured Wigan. They last thing they need at this point.
Bristol Rovers take the lead vs Fawlty Towers. That would relegate the resort team
Nervy times at Molineux according to Tony Cottee. Could be a double relegation for them.
Still 0-0 in the prestige match in L1 - Brentford v. Donny.
Hoping that PNE can do in the Blades today.
BBOM BOOM JEFF!
Jeff said that Hitchcock took 39 steps before scoring
Looks as if we'll fall short of our points total of 61 for last season. I don't fancy that last day of the season away fixture at Watford.
I hope Hull City finish third because I fancy Bpolton's chances vs them. Brighton would be a tough nut in the final, but Palace winable.
DIdn't hear it - my SS feed is rubbish today.
I ask it again, though - do you really want to see Bolton in the Premiership?
Dembele's limping off to be replaced with the ineffectual Holtby.
A fight in midfield as Hull City's Matt Fryaat dive from a challenge by Perkins. They fought, but only a lecture for both players. Testy at Oakwell/
Not really, but I am desperate for the points.
Goals is every single match in the Championship already. That's good value for the punters.
You are desperate. I suppose United have a short trip to the Reebok for their customary three points.
Brighton and UW are the best sides after Evil Cardiff.
United need a win somewhere!
After that initial flurry of goals, the goals have dried up.
My SS feed is like Wolves' attack - ineffective.
Shrewsbury two up vs Pompey
