The League Cup Saga Continues...

No link for the Leeds match alas, so I'll have to deal with Carlisle v. Blackburn. Here's the link:
http://firstrowus.eu/watch/199599/1/watch-carlisle-united-fc-vs-blackburn-rovers.html
Here is the team news:
United: Kenny, Drury, Lees, Pearce, Thompson, Green, White, Brown, Norris, Smith, Poleon. Subs. Ashdown, Murphy, Hunt, Varney, Hall, Mowatt, McCormack.
Chesterfield: Lee, Smith, Hird, Morsy, Darikwa, Roberts, Ryan, Humphreys, Doyle, Talbot, Edwards. Subs. Chapman, Cooper, Togwell, Richards, O'Shea, Gnanduillet, Brown.
Referee: C Boyeson.
Oh - that's not good at all. Boro have been sniffing about Ross McCormack for about 18 months now and have just made a formal offer, so it's not reassuring to see him on the bench today. I cannot believe that the club is getting ready to sell our most consistent scorer.
Coming up on kick-off time, then.
Along with the three Capital One Cup matches, there are also a slate of Champions League qualifying matches. Celtic are in action and are 0-1 up at half time in their second leg against Elfsborg.
And we're away in Cumbria tonight.
Blackburn have it in the net early doors, but Taylor was well off-side.
Within The Leeds starting line-up there are two career milestones. United goalkeeper Paddy Kenny marks his 600th career appearance and the second achievement was that Aidy White is making his 100th outting in a Leeds United shirt.
Lots of drama in the Carlisle area but the home side somehow survive.
Good afternoon Bob. Just got home from running some errands.
Leeds with al of the early pressure at ER. Poleon and Smith - McCormack's replacement for the evening - going close.
Afternoon, MUR - I'm coming to you straight from Gooner Central after a long drive down here this morning.
Glad you made it safely. I hope all is well at G.C.
As good as can be. We're off to an open-casket viewing for my uncle after the match. Never much fun. But I did bring some entertaining beers for the post-event activities tonight.
Celtic drawing 0-0 at Swedish side Elfsborg in the second leg of a CL qualifier, holding on to a 1-0 advantage from the first leg.
GOAL! Carlisle take the lead against the Championship side!
GOAL !!! CARLISLE TAKE THE LEAD WITH A HEADER OFF A CORNER.
Fairly simple really. Good delivery from the corner and a downward header by the former Liverpool academy boy Amou beat the Blackburn keeper.
The lower league sides have done a terrific job in the competition so far with lots of real upsets. Hoping that there isn't one at Elland Road.
My condolences you and your family during this difficult time.
Another upset in the cards as Fleetwood Mac take the lead at Notts County.
Thanks, David - much appreciated.
We definitely want the Whites to win vs Chesterfield cigarettes .
Any time, mate.
Let's hope the Chesterfield players have been smoking up before the match and will be winded.
I don't know if this is much of a consolation, but the Blades lost at home to Richard Burton Albion and Not a Big Club lost at Rotherham. Both scores were 2-1.
Dominic Poleon has had a lively start to the match - and the season. He's the stand-out Academy prospect to graduate to the first team this season.
I second that, Bob.
Bugger!!! Chesterfield take the lead. Sorry Bob.
I saw that. Both Evil Sheffield sides lost yesterday. Lovely.
The lower league sides up in all three encounters.
Also, Wolves lost to Morecambe and Much wiser in the televised match yesterday 1-0. The Purple Wolves played like a sickly , wounded animal. Also, Last seasons finalists, Bradford City lost 2-1 to Huddersfield and are out during our summer vacation.
Twenty minutes gone and still 0-0. I'd love to see an early goal or two here. We don't want an exhausting affair today with Leicester coming on Sunday.
Actually, soccernet states that Chesterfield took the lead at ER. Sorry Bob.
Not well Done as David Dunn concedes a dumb free kick.
From the LUFC website: "United started brightly and the first chance of the game came in the first minute when Smith held the ball up well and Dominic Poleon latched onto his knock down but his shot went just wide."
Notts County tie it up vs Fleetwood Mac.
Bloody Norah! That's no good. Same story as Saturday. Now we've got to battle back straight away. No good at all.
Some idiot named Eoin Doyle is the goalscorer for the ciggies.
Eoin Doyle with the goal at ER in the 19th minute.
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!
LEEDS TIE IT UP.
An unlikely scorer as it is Michael Brown of all people.
Leeds with 67% of the possession , but that was their first shot on target.
YESSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!
That's better - the unlikely goalscorer is Michael Brown.
I hope we can build on that. Come on, you Whites! This should be a simple task. I like to get at least three or four rounds deep in the League Cup for the sake of revenues.
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!
LEEDS LEAD 2-1
Wahay!!!!!!!!!!
Dominic Poleon, the academy valedictorian, with the goal.
Dom Poleon with his first senior goal. Lovely jubbly!
Mark Gillespie, The Rovers youngster , shoots over, unmarked from a corner.
Did you see that I referred to him as Academy Valedictorian? Your thoughts?
The Norwich scouts at Elland Road will no doubt be looking at that goal and thinking, "Wonder if we could offer a pint of brown ale and a packet of crisps for Poleon?"
I think that's well suited. We've got eight Academy kids in the first team now but he was certainly the brightest prospect from last season's crop.
Not till Sunday. I hope you will be celebrating with crisps along with Academy Valedictorian. Smoky Bacon I presume.
BUGGER OF CANRIES. MITTS OFF!
I agree.
Notts County lead Fleetwood Mac 2-1.
Blackburn look a bit like Wolves did yesterday. They're clearly the better side but I don't think their players give a toss.
Oh - goalscorer Amou nearly scored his second there. Another headed chance.
Just wide by Liverpool Academy Boy, Amou as he headed a free kick just wide .Could have been 2-0.
The Purple Wolves sure looked like a wounded animal yesterday. It will be a long season for Kenny Jackett as Wolves have yet to score.
Rhys James, the 19 year old on loan from MAn Yoo is off injured as Seventeen year old Academy Boy, Patrick Brough is on for a first team debut as Carlisle are forced into a change,.
Sogo'o fouls the Blackburn keeper as they show their frustration. One minute of stoppage time.
Halftime and a standing ovation as Carlisle deservedly lead 1-0. Still in the first half at ER.
That's half-time at Brunton Park. The home support will be delighted with the 1-0 lead.
Now halftime in the other matches as Leeds lead the cigs 2-1 and Notts County lead Fleetwood Mac by the same.
Celtic drew 0-0 at Elfsborg, winning 1-0 on agg. as they make it to the final qualifying round. Someone will be pleased.
Jason Lowe on for Ryan Barrow as Rovers make an attacking switch.
The second half is underway from Brunton Park.
Come on, you Whites - finish 'em off!
Gillespie, the Carlisle keeper, misjudged another corner , but got away with it as Songo'o headed wide.
GOAL !!!! 1-1 AS ROVERS SCORE A DEFLECTED EQUALIZER.
GOAL! Oh - that's really cruel. Gillespie is completely fooled by a terrible deflection from the shot.
1-1!
We're underway at Elland Road for the second half.
A cross from Songo'o was cleared and a long range effort wrong footed Gillespie in the Carlisle goal and
PENALTY TO ROVERS AS JOSH KING WAS TRIPPED IN THE BOX BY THIRWELL.
It's all falling apart for Carlisle here. Blackburn's orange men have a penalty!
The skipper David Dunn steps up and...misses!
Great save by Gillespie!
NOT WELL DONE AS A POOR PENALTY BY DAVID DUNN IS EASILY SAVED BY GILLESPIE.
He certainly telegraphed that penalty effort and the manager is not best pleased with his skipper.
Josh King, the Norwegian international on loan from Man Yoo won the pen, but long serving David Dunn was guilty of a poor miss.
GOAL ROVERS TAKE A 2-1 AS CHRIS TAYLOR HEADS IN A CORNER AT THE FAR POST.
GOAL! Blackburn are in the lead now as Chris Taylor, their summer signing from Millwall, heads home from a corner.
1-2!
I did some research at the half and have noticed that Dominic Polleon was a naughty boy last season. I blame Evil Neil for sending him on loan last season to the Blades and Bury, two of his former clubs. Your thoughts?
I've heard those rumors too. Hope that Brian is a better mentor for him.
I'm hoping that Brian is merely resting our two weekend goalscorers - McCormack and Murphy.
It actually happened . It showed up on his appearances. He did score twice for Leeds in the Championship last season and twice on loan at Bury. He was nice enough not to score for the Evil Blades.
50 minutes in and Leeds still 2-1 up at Elland Road.
Probably is. If Leeds win on Sunday what flavor crisps will you feast on?
Smoky Bacon was always my favorite.
GOAL! Louis Guy puts Carlisle level!
GOAL !!! DESMOND AT BRUNTON PARK AS LEWIS GUY HEADS IN A CROSS FROM TEENAGER, MARK BECK AFTER A CORNER WAS CLEARED.
Blasted over by David Dunn as Rovers immediately attack.
David Dunn has been pants. I think he feels entitled to a spot in the starting lineup. The new manager may have to put him in his place.
Poleon gets caught offside for the umpteet time in this test.
A foul was called before Josh King had it in the back of the net for Rovers. Won't count.
Did you see that Polleon has scored a few professional goals last season?
Great block from Veteran. Livesy off a sol run from the lively Josh King.
You may be interested to know that the French are playing League Cup matches this evening too.
Oh - King - somehow a Norweigian international = had the chance to win it for his side.
Let me guess - PSG vs. the Arch Duchy of Villeneuve
Wahay - Ross has replaced Aidy White. McDermott taking no changes.
Yes. A former United player who made only a few League Cup appearances. Had a spell on loan at Borussia Monchengladbach prior to joining Rovers. Born and raised in Oslo.
Down to35 munutes at eER.
I just noticed that Notts County now lead Fleetwood Mac 3-1.
Not a great night so far for the lower league clubs.
Will you be around if this match goes to extra time?
Actually the higher division clubs lead in the other two matches and level in this one?
That's what I meant. Yesterday the lower teams had a field day.
I probably should get ready for the viewing. I have to pick up my dad.
Luke Murphy has come on for David Norris.
An update on Josh king . Made one appearance as a sub for United in the League Cup as a sub in 2009 and had been on the subs bench in other League Cup and FA Cup matches without playing. Had loan speLls at Monchengladbach , Preston, Hull City , and Rovers prior to joining Rovers.
15 minutes left at ER - I'll take the 2-1 win at this point.
You will be missed ,but I definitely understand. It has been great being able to chat with you this afternoon.
Murphy goes close with his first effort. He seems a real goal threat.
Is the draw on after this.
Agreed, Bob. According to the halftime stats, it looked a fairly even match at ER.
I am not sure . I will need to look into that. Great block by Thirwell from Josh King.
Just a bit over 10 minutes remaining. Hang on, you Whites!
Still a good while left in the match at ER. About ten minutes behind this match.
Yeah - not sure why there was the delay.
According to Wikipedia, the second round draw is tomorrow morning at 7:30 EDT.
I think it kicked off later and a few extra minutes of stoppage time./
OH! Beck could have won for Carlisle in stoppage time as Eastwood pushed his effort on to the post.
Oh - Beck heads onto the post! Nearly curtains for Blackburn!
Tom Cairney of Rovers talked himself into the book/.
Five minutes and stoppage left at ER. Hang on!
Fleetwood MAc score and now trail 3-2 at Notts County
It's 2-2 and 30 minutes of ET at Brunton Park.
That's full time at Brunton Park. Extra time and possibly pens to come.
It's "Don't Stop Thinking About an Equalizer" time for Fleetwood Mac.
Perfectly stated, Bob.
I wonder if as lot of teams treated the First Round as a preseason match yesterday and paid the price.
Nailbiting time at ER. Just a bit more than stoppage time.
Notts County hold on to defeat Fleetwood Mac 3-2.
It definitely seems like it.
I'd take them in the 2nd round.
Carlisle made two substitutions as ET is underway
Paddy Kenney seeing lots of action now but it's into stoppage. Blow up, ref!
It would be a good draw as would Morecambe and Wise
BLOW UP REF AT ER!
Rovers bring on top scorer,Jordan Rhodes for david Dunn, who needs to stop having a feeling of entitlement after this poor performance.
BLOODY HELL! Why so much stoppage time at ER?
WAY HAY! Leeds hang on to win 2-1. This should provide some cheers for Bob.
YES! It wasn't as easy as I'd hoped for us but we've won 2-1 again and are through to the 2nd round just as Blackburn score in extra time at Brunton Park.
Bring on the Foxes!
GOAL !!! 2-3 ROVERS AS GIVET HEADED ON CORNER AND JUDGE THE SUB , WHO CAME ON AT THE START OF ET SCORED WITH A REAL CRACKER OF A FINISH.
I'm off to shower and get ready for the event tonight. Cheerio, mate!
Thinking of the smoky bacon?
Cheers Bob. Thanks for being around to chat. I hope the win provided some cheer.
Cairney of Rovers sent off for a second yellow after a clumsy foul on young Beck.
Great save by Eastwood from Beck for a Carlisle corner.
AMOO heads straight to Eastwood off the corner.,
Judge wins a corner for Rovers off of Brough
Songo'o heads over the corner from Brough. Lewis Guy is replaced by nineteen year old Kevin Salmon as it's the final roll of the dice for Carlisle.
Back to the sending off: Cairney, on loan from Hull City, refused to go off and Gary Bowyer, the new Rovers manager grabbed CAirney with both and had to push him off the pitch to usher him into the dressing room. May add to the suspension for refusing to go off. Bowyer then had some words for the fourth official.
One minute of stoppage time.
Halftime of extra time and Rovers are 3-2 up in a thriller at Carlisle
Gary Bowyer, the Rovers manager, now discussing the red card with the ref. It was the correct decision, IMHO.
The second half of extra time is underway
Josh King concedes free kick, showing why strikers can shouldn't defend. The free kick is cleared.
THe speedy Josh King down the left on the break and wins a corner off of Livesey
Gillespie catches a cross from Judge after Judge took a short corner.
AD cent chance for Carlisle as Eastwood mad a kick save then the rebound was shot wide,.
THe teenagers combine for Carlisle as Brough heads a cross from Beck wide of the mark.
GOAL !!!! 3-3 AS AMOO HAS A BRACE ,SCORING WIHT A GREAT FINISH OFF A GREAT PASS FROM BROUGH!
Carlisle going for a winner vs ten man Rovers , cheered on by their fans.
MArk NOble heads out for a Rovers corner as a cross from judge came in. The corner was wasted as a foul was called.
Gillespie in the Carlisle goal did well to push away a swerving long range effort from Jason Lowe.
EAstwood pushes away a along range effort from Mark Noble then Rovers clear as there are two minutes of stoppage time./
Young Josh Morris of Rovers nearly scored an OG as it just went over the bar and Mark Beck shoots over from the Carlisle corner.
Young Josh Morris of Rovers nearly scored an OG as it just went over the bar and Mark Beck shoots over from the Carlisle corner.
It finishes 3-3 in ET as it will have to be decided by spot kicks ion just a minute or two.
It's the start of spot kicks as Rovers manager, Gary Bowyer can't bear to watch.
1-0 Rovers as Judge scores a great spot kick
A Carlisle teennager shoots his kick over.
2-0 Rovers as Jason Lowe tucks it away in the corner
2-1 as Beck tucks his in the corner for Carlisle.
3-1 Rovers as Jordan Rhodes sends the keeper the wrong way
3-2 as James Barrett shoots it down the middle sending the keeper the wrong way.
Chris Taylor blasts his spot kick well over for Rovers
Liam Noble sends the keeper the wrong way and it's 3-3
Off the bar by Josh Morris of Rovers and the fans roar their approval.
Carlisle can now win this .
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!
THEY DO AS TEENAGER, DAVE SYMMINGTON BLASTS IT DOWN THE MIDDLE AND CARLISLE WIN 4-3 ON SPOT KICKS.
Carlisle become the eleventh team to knock out a higher division club in the First Round of the Capital One Cup. The draw for the second Round is tomorrow at 7:30 AM EDT. That's it for me. Cheers!
