Lakenheath Old Boys
We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Hiya, lads - I'm settling in to watch the two semis on FSC tonight. Hope you're all doing well.
Reports out of Blighty today that Arsenal have offered £40 million for Luis Suarez. Probably means that they've given up on the Gonzalo Higuain move.
Teams on the pitch now. I'm going to try to pick out the US side as they appear. I see that Eddie Johnson is getting a start tonight.
Good evening Bob. Hope all is well. The Suarez move has been dominating the footie news recently.
I feel pretty clever being in my air conditioned house rather than dealing with the intense heat in Dallas.
Beasley is skippering the side, which will include Rimando, Goodson, Corona, Donovan, Beckermann, Johnson, Wondolowski, and Parkhurst.
Is Cowboys Stadium indoors.? either way, financial constraints and Jacquelyn's activities have kept me in Harlingen. You are much better company.
Evening, MUR - it's a gorgeous summer evening here in Fred-town. I feel somewhat guilty for being inside rather than out on the deck.
JP Dellacamera on the microphone tonight.
No need to feel guilty even though I am really jealous. I have been inside till 7:30 each evening due to the heat wave we've had the past few days.
Is Cowboys Stadium indoors? Either way financial constraints and Jacquelyn's activities have kept me in Harlingen. Also, you are much better company than the motley crew in Dallas.
They're off from Cowboy Stadium.
Honduras kicking us off in steamy Dallas tonight. Glad to hear that you're enjoying the air conditioned comfort of Chez Goldstein.
Honduras will be a tougher challenge than El Salvador
Cheers Bob. It feels great. For some reason it looks like an indoor stadium, which may have it's own air conditioning.
I agree - Honduras are a more challenging side; yet, they always seem to wilt on American soil.
I sure hope that happens tonight.
Some bizarre Honduran defending, but they get away with it as they were making risky passes in their own box.
How are Elizabeth and the kids doing?
This commentary sounds strangely canned, as if FSC couldn't afford to send them to Dallas and they're holed up in some studio in New Jersey.
They are doing well. Thank you for asking. Elizabeth and Jacquelyn are at home. Melanie's summer camp group is on a ten day field trip to New Mexico and Arizona. I think she is currently in New Mexico.
Stu Holden with a pop from distance; always rising. The pitch seems strangely patched together.
Hope Melanie is having a blast!
I think FSC is on a limited budget until FS1 takes over on August
17th. They will take over the CL and EL matches that FSC would have aired.
Free kick chance now for the US. Cleared out.
I agree with you about the pitch . I am sure it is typically used as an astroturf pitch
I am sure she is. Thanks for asking.
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!
EDDIE JOHNSON GIOVE THE U.S. THE LEAD.
GOAL! Fantastic move on the turn and finish by EJ!
Great through ball from Landy. His seventh assist of the tournament.
That's EJ's second of the tournament and 17th for the US side. Suddenly we've got a load of strikers on the boil. Wow!
Yes - Landy has been excellent throughout. He's really stamped his name on the team=sheet for next summer. Grrr.
Honduras, like the Salvadorans, will be forced to come out of their defensive shell and that will create some gaps at the back.
I don't see how he can be left out, but EJ's performances will push Wondo down the pecking order.
Yes - that changes the situation entirely. Honduras had hoped to sit deep and attack on the break. Now that game plan goes out the proverbial window.
JP is right - we can't get that carried away with this 10 game winning streak that the US is on. After the friendly loss to Belgium, it's been a win against a weakened German side and then wins against inferior opposition in CONCACAF qualifying and now the Gold Cup.
Nice through ball from Beckerman to Holden, who goes down in the box. It seemed obstruction in the box, but no penalty given.
Oh - EJ was nearly in again there!
I second that Bob. Let's see how they do next summer.
Should have been an indirect free kick called but those are never given these days.
Oh - Holden with another blast at the top of the box. Just over.
Just over by Holden. Great pass from Landy as the U.S. is carving apart the Hondurans.
They need to consider putting those indirect free kicks back in the rules or at least have a meeting with the refs in ever confederation regarding that.
Long ball from Beckerman to EJ nearly worked , but was just too long as it skipped on that horrible patchwork pitch.
So did you figure out your Wiener-Name, mate?
Najar, the former DC United player wins a corner off of Beasely.
Not yet . I need to take that test.
The U.S. need to score more because Honduras will create chances.
I was incorrect. It's outdoors as I see the sun shining on a spot. Despite the shade I know it's really hot for the fans.
That looks horrible. It looks like they bought sod from the local Home Depot and laid it today. Really wretched.
GOAL !!! 2-0 U.S. LANDY WITH A GREAT FINISH.
GOAL! Landycakes is in the right place to stab home #2!
Calamitous defending by the Hondurans there allowed Bedoya to dink it on toward Landycakes who finished sweetly.
2-0!
EJ headed on a goal kick from Rimando, then Bedoya stuck out a boot in front of an indecisive Honduran defense. Great poaching by Landy.
Reyes shoots straight at Rimando from long range.
Oh - Landycakes could have had his brace there!
Great cross by Bedoya and Landy diverted it wide.
The Hondurans have been at sixes and sevens. Their normally calm coach may have to change his demeanor.
I won't be sad to lose Cobie Jones as a color guy when FSC rolls up its shutters. He's far too close to these guys to have any kind of critical perspective.
Bedoya flagged offside off a long clearance. That looked really close.
I agree. He's been really lame. He might be part of the crew when FS1 broadcasts CL, EL, FA Cup , and international matches.
Bedoya has a shot blocked for a corner as Landy dinked in front of a lethargic Honduran defense.
The corner from Landy is easily cleared.
Francisco Torres is lectured by the ref and needs to stop trying to get players booked.
Torres shoots well wide.
That didn't seem a foul on Najar. After the cynical challenges by the Hondurans , he calls this soft challenge.
A high foot to Beaseler's head and the free kick is wasted. It should have never been given.
Honduras really looking shaky. This could easily end up 4 or 5-0.
I agree. They're not playing any better than the Salvadorans.
No stoppage time and that's half time. 2-0. No muss, no fuss.
No stoppage time and the U.S. deservedly lead 2-0. It could have been much more. I will have some dins before the second half starts.
The second half is underway from Cowboys Stadium.
Nice - Rob Stone goes with a "Carlos Danger" reference to throw back to JP to start the second half.
Marvin Chavez, who should have started., is on for Diego Reyes. Also , Jerry Palacios, brother of Wilson, is on as Honduras made two halftime substitutions. Both attacking.
Oh - Landy should have hit that one first time on the volley!
Missed that, but a great reference.
Not sure if Marvin Chavez, or Carlos Danger, can help Honduras out now.
EJ wins a free kick.
Poor free kick easily headed out.
Oh - EJ nods on to Bedoya who's deflected shot earns a corner.
Great near post by Escober from Bedoya.
Oh - EJ had a headed chance there but put it well over.
The corner is headed away then EJ heads a cross wide.
All Marvin Chavez or Carlos Danger can do is use their "Weiner."
Indeed - boom boom, mate!
Obstruction by Beasely on Jerry Palacios off a nutmeg. Free kick Honduras.
GOAL! Crikey - Honduras are back in it with a cracking free header by Medina. Poor marking there.
2-1!
BUGGER! MEDINA HEADS A GOAL OFF THE FREE KICK AS HONDURAS ARE BACK IN IT.
Looked to be Goodson who lost his man there.
Marvin Chavez, who took the free kick fouls Torres.
GOAL! Landycakes with an immediate response!
3-1!
GOAL !!! LANDY WITH A BRACE AS THE U.S. LEAD 3-1.
Great ball through over the top top from Goodson to Bedoya who laid it on the plate for Landy.
Goodson seems to have redeemed himself as he played a nice long ball to Bedoya whop squared it for Landy to easily score.
The ref gives a dubious hand-ball there, just outside the box.
Poor effort by Torres there.
Didn't look like a hand ball on Osman Chavez. Seemed harsh as Jose Torres shoots the free kick over.
Stu Holden is down getting some treatment for a Charlie Horse.
BUGGER!!! STUART HOLDEN DOWN WITH CRAMP. Poor foul on EJ not called as the player does apologize.
Honduras had only conceded two goals in the tournament prior to this match. They are not doing it tonight.
A long range Honduran effort well wide,
Beckles called or a foul on EJ near the corner flag.
The free kick is headed away
Nasty challenge by Najar on Beasely and should have been booked.
Brek Shea on for Torres and Diskerud on for Beckerman.
Ronny Martinez on for Roger Rojas as that is the last roll of the dice for the Hondurans.
Poor Honduran defending as a clearance bounced off a Honduran player and Rimando was alert to that and came out of his box to clear.
well wide by Marvin Chavez from long range,.
US taking the foot off the gas here.
Wondo on for Landy as that is the final roll of the dice from Jurgen.
They sire are . I wish they would score more.
Another infuriatingly great performance by Landycakes.
Poor foul by Medina on Brek Shea and he should have been booked, but somehow that was not called.
HE has five goals and seven assists. Surely the tournament MVP.
Oh - EJ had a golden opportunity to notch his brace.
OH! Just wide by EJ as Brek Shea made a run down the left and he crossed to Wondo, who passed to EJ
Jerry Palacios has a shot deflect off of Beasler for a corner. Rimando does well to catch a cross after the corner.
Beasely pushed from behind by Jerry Palacios and should have been booked.
Now Marvin Chavez pushes Beasely from behind. When will one of these mugs be booked. The free kick from Diskerud is headed away and Holden shoots wide from long range,
Brek Shea having another shite night.
NOW Martinez pushes Rimando to the ground and just a lecture. Is this ref biased
Credit Wondo for staying up there.
I agree, Bob. Now wonder why he doesn't get any games at Stoke.
Klinsy is upset there. Did he get a red card?
I think he did. will he be suspended for the final? I don't blame him. The Hondurans have been intentionally trying to injure U.S. players and the ref is letting them get away with it.
I think he did. will he be suspended for the final? I don't blame him. The Hondurans have been intentionally trying to injure U.S. players and the ref is letting them get away with it.
Is that Kasey Keller on the sideline?
The referees have been pure shite this tournament and CONCACRAP will be just that until they do something about it.
I think it's Grant Wahl.
Three minutes of stoppage time.
Yeah - I recognize him too.
WOndo called for a foul. The Honduran player went down easily and EJ booked for some back chat
THe Hondurans with a late free kick and it's straight to Rimando.
Great performance for the US - only slightly marred by that free header for Medina from the free kick.
3-1 and on to the final in Chi-town.
That's it as the U.S. win 3-1 and are in the final on Sunday in Chicago.
Will you be around for the next match?
Since there is an intermission, I will be taking Sparky for walkies. I will be back in a few minutes.
Here's the answer to the question of where to find the Champions League and Europa League action in the fall. It's going to be on a new network - Fox Sports 1. Here's what their website says:
"Fox Sports 1 (FS1) is an upcoming American sports-oriented cable and satellite television channel. The network will air live sporting events, including Big East basketball the UEFA Champions League, the UEFA Europa League, the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, Major League Baseball (starting in 2014), the UFC, the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, and original programming."
Thanks for the post. I wonder if they will do the FA Cup too. I know ESPN will do the world Cup. I guess the FC numpties will be on FS1.
That sounds likely - but it won't be a soccer-only station like FSC.
Anthems now for the two teams.
IT will definitely be a pro Mexican crowd, but I expect this match to be more competitive than the first.
Did you hear that United lost another preseason match yesterday?
El Tri really pinning a lot of their hopes on Marco Fabian up front.
I heard that - to a J League side, of all things.
We won 3-0 at Stevenage. :-)
Yes. They lost 3-2 to Yokoahama Marinos. It wasn't exactly a stellar United performance.
And we're underway in the late one.
They're off from Cowboys stadium.
Well done Whites. MOT!
United play another J League side on Friday
Naughty by Luis Montes on Roberto Chen
It all gets underway for us next weekend (gulp!)
Hard to believe it's so early.
Your beloved CONCACAF put their foot in their mouth as perfectly stated by Grant Wahl. He stated that they were up to their usual hijinks as their press officer said Klinnsman would be suspended for the final then said it would be decided by the CONCACAF disciplinary committee. What a bunch of plonkers.
Panama is not sitting back. They are going for it. Kudos to them.
A clash of heads between Blas Perez and Luis Montes.
As things stand , Landy would be the GBB because the tiebreaker is most assists.
GOAL! Panama draw first blood in this semi!
GOAL !!!! BLAS PEREZ GIVES PANAMA THE LEAD WITH A GREAT NEAR POST FINISH
Shambolic defending there and Perez beats Orozco at the near post.
1-0 Panama!
Poor Mexican defending as Quintero tackled the Mexican left back and a superb through ball allowed Perez to score.
Quintero played a key role in that goal and is looking really up for it tonight.
I hear David Lee Roth singing.
Hey played a key role in the match between these two at the Rose Bowl too.
Great defending by Gabriel Torres on Aldrete
Absolutely, mate. Panama, for sure, but what about "Hot for Teacher" as well?
Gadoy called for a foul on Luis Montes, who went down too easily.
Oh - Rafael Marquez should have buried that one.
Raffa Marquez Lugo volleyed well overf rom the free kick then Aldrete fouls Quintero.
Blas Perez heads over the free kick from Gabriel Torres ,but a foul was called on Gabriel Torres. Then Marco Fabian wins a free kick for Mexico just outside the box.t he Free kick from Marco Fabian is straight to Penedo.
KEY block by Huiqui off of Gabriel Torres from a great cross by Parris or else that would have been a two goal lead.
High and wide by Marco Sanchez after showing some great skill.
GOAL! Mexico strike back through Montes!
GOAL !!! 1-1 AS LUIS MONTES SCORES WITHA ROCKET OF HEADER
Marco Fabian with a great ball over and Montes roofed the header.
1-1!
It all started with a poor cross by Quintero gathered by Orozco. Seconds later Marco Fabian made a great run down the left and crossed despite pressure by Parris for Montes to head home.
I agree with you about Hot for Teacher, but will keep it a secret from Elizabeth!
Marco Fabian wreaking more havoc down the left as Panama struggle to clear
Just too long for Marco Fabian from Montes, trying to return the favor for the goal
I think you should have Elizabeth sing that one for you!
AN off the ball challenge by Alejandro Castro on Quintero . he should have been booked for that
Great suggestion. I think I will have her do that as part of the halftime show.
Valenzuela booked for a horrible foul on Blas Perez for a rash challenge. It could have been a red.
Did you hear that Jurgen is paying a visit to the zoo? He will sit before a kangaroo court known as the CONCACAF disciplinary committee.
Definitely - sounds like a cracking half-time show.
I'm sure he'll get off with a slap on the wrist.
Blas Perez down after a poor challenge by Huiqui.
I hope he does . He doesn't deserve to miss the final.
No halftime show. Elizabeth claims she has not heard that song. Poor form on her part.
Blas PEREZ headed off the bar off ac ross from Marco Sanchez, who tackled Layun. Quintero booked for a foul on Marco Fabian, but it was a fair tackle.
Halftime and 1-1 . It should be a fascinating second half.
Definitely poor form - I'm FBing her with the vid.
1-1 at half-time, just as it was in the group stage match.
Well done mate!
FSC will be televising an eight team tournament called the International Champions Cup. Everton and Chelsea will be in that tournament.
Right - something dingbat trophy called The Guinness Cup.
Jorge Enriquez is on for Carlos Pena as Mexico make a halftime sub. The second half is underway
We're back on for the second half but I'm having difficulty tearing myself away from Daily Show coverage of Carlos Danger.
Will you be watching the matches involving Everton and Chelsea. It will give ma a chance to look at out main rivals for the Prem title.
Carlos Danger is a Weiner, not a winner?
