Best of Friends?
They used to be best of chums, these two Portugeezers who are in charge at Chelski and Spurs. But - the love affair seems to be over, given the comments from both in the Fleet Street rags this week. It's all a fascinating build up to what should be a cracking London derby this morning. That gets us started on our soccer Saturday. Join me for that and all the other LOB action, won't you?

The starting line-ups at Shite Fart this morning:
Spurs: Lloris, Walker, Dawson, Vertonghen, Naughton, Paulinho, Dembele, Townsend, Eriksen, Sigurdsson, Soldado.
Subs: Chiriches, Lamela, Holtby, Defoe, Chadli, Friedel, Sandro.
Chelsea: Cech, Ivanovic, Luiz, Terry, Cole, Ramires, Mikel, Lampard, Oscar, Torres, Hazard.
Subs: Essien, Mata, Schurrle, Schwarzer, Cahill, Azpilicueta, Eto'o.
Referee: Mike Dean (Wirral)
So it looks as if his League Cup exploits in mid-week, where Chelski cruised past lowly Swindon, has bought Fernando Torres another match at the head of the Chelski spear ahead of Samuel Eto'o and Demba Ba (who's not even in the squad!)
Good morning Bob.I have coffee brewing and English muffins toasting
Morning, MUR - sounds like you've got a good brekkies going. I'm in the midst of stuffing a bagel and some coffee into my face.
A lot of big talk about Spurs' prospects this morning. I'm still unconvinced. I've yet to see Soldado really turn it on and they're going to need someone who'll score them 25+ goals if they're going to be true title contenders rather than pretenders.
Breakfast ready as they're off from SFL.
And we're underway at Shite Fart. Let's hope for a free scoring encounter to get us going this weekend.
This will be the real test for Spurs . Did anyone pick them to win the title?
Neither of these sides has one of our GBB picks to watch; however, Soldado does have those two penalty conversions under his belt.
AVB and Joe Mou mutual friends?
Nope - no one did. The only shouts for the title were United, Citeh and Chelski.
Christian Eriksen and Paulinho have made decent starts. Not so sure about the rest.
Cech easily catches the corner from Eriksen.
The best of frenemies today, for sure. But they did have a polite handshake before the match at least.
I got approved for two days off during my trip to WNY. The principal approved it in less than 24 hours. She must be in a hurry to get rid of me if she approved it that quickly.
Great explanation, Bob
Oh - that was an intriguing ball from Ericksson to Soldado but the Spaniard couldn't control it. It was fairly fizzed at him.
Nice through ball from Eriksen, but Soldado got it horribly wrong as JT was well out of position.
Maybe things have warmed up between you two? In any case, I'm delighted that you'll be joining us. DId I mention that Someone Said will also be in town for that weekend visiting his old Fred stomping grounds?
That finish from Paulino looked liked something from Yours Truly.
I'm not happy that Mou has plumped for John Terry rather than Gary Cahill, who I think of as the future of the England defense.
Lamps tries to emulate Paulinho's effort.
WOW! What a reunion. Lovely Jubbly. So it is you, me, your dad, Gooner Someone Said, and Dad. Is that correct?
Bad news for Mou - Hazard is down with what looks like a twisted ankle. Walker has nobbled him.
Lamps just as high as Paulino was wide.
Looks like Hazard will not be a Hazard to Joe Mou as he seems to be okay.
Gooner and Dad are still pending. Hoping for the best. But it'll at least be you and me, Someone and the UWS family.
To be honest , after thirteen years , things will never warm up between Yours Truly and that She Devil. Thanks for asking though and I am delighted to be visiting WNY. A definite change in weather when I come up.
Ivanovic gives up a free kick in a dangerous area. Eriksen to take...
Decent ball in and knock back by Vertonghen.
Should still be nice, although not as warm as Harlingen. I would imagine low to mid-60s. We're supposed to get 75F this afternoon.
Looking forward to it . Highs have been in the upper 80s to low 90s in Harlingen the past two weeks, so I will enjoy it.
Bit of a mess between Sideshow and Cashley there but they got out of it.
You'll have to come up in mid- January to get the full Fred-town effect.
Odd that we don't have a front runner for the title. I would not count out Citeh. Also, Chelsea can not be counted out despite their mediocre form.
You can get the full Harlingen effect in late July or early August. It will be an unforgettable experience.
GOAL! Siggy stabs home after a great team move from Tottenham.
Great run from Ericksen there and Soldado did reasonably well to tap back to an on-running Siggy who did the rest.
1-0!
The mentee striking first against the mentor, then.
Spurs are the 1-0 specialists but they're on their way to five wins in six. And are top of the pops currently. This result would drop Chelski to fourth.
Oh - nearly two as Ivanovic just gets there ahead of Paulinho as Soldado slid the ball over to him.
I did a UWs and missed the goal while in the loo. I will need to take a look at the half.
I did mention that Eriksen has done well. The Great Dane has been a great signing from Ajax , taking Chelsea to the cleaners.
Are you UWS in disguise? Aaaarrrrre you UWS in disguise?
Now it's Dembele down on the turf clutching his ankle.
Between several Magic Hats last night and the morning coffee my body had had enough. I guess I am!
Nice Scandanavian combo as the Icelandic finished off a pass from the Great Dane. AVB barking about that
The student ahead of the master. HA HA , JOE MOU!
Cech Republic saves easily from Kyle Naughton.
Chelsea have shown that they can defeat teams in the lower half of the table and lower division teams. Joe Mou already on borrowed time with Roman?
What variant of Magic Hat were you drinking, mate?
Chelski just not clicking and now Ramires has kicked the ball away in disgust as he's caught offside.
Ramires offside and kicks away the ball in frustration. He should be booked while Mike Dean is talking to David Lewis. Naughty Brazis as neither is booked
It was the Not Quite Pale Ale #9. It was the only one I could find at the convenience store.
Oscar has a cross cleared by Dawson for a corner.
Poor corner by Lampard
Oh - that's a classic. I was asking because they had a new one in the supermarket here for Halloween that I've never tried. And the label didn't really give you much of an idea of what kind of brew it is. But those New Belgium lads usually do the biz.
Foul throw by Ivanovic as nothing is going right for Chelsea.
Another great run from Eriksen - you can see why Shite Fart is gushing about him.
They did. I really slept well and without a hangover. I would have to check the liquor store for that . I have seen the Shock Top Halloween brew. Thanks for the tip.
Agreed, Bob. He's been a great signing.
Morning all. I'm at work this morning (and tomorrow) but thought I'd pop in and say hey. I'll be home on Monday for the Everton match.
Forest lead Derby County 1-0 in the second half of an East Midlands Derby. I am surprised that is a noon kickoff instead of Millwall vs Leeds.
Morning, Someone. I'll likely join you for that match on Monday. Should be a good one. Enjoy your weekend!
Good morning Someone. I will be at work for that match, but am looking forward to meeting you in two weeks at the reunion.
I'm now going to pull a Nocito and run to the bog with a few minutes left of the first half.
Soldado shoots wide as he is offside.
Ah the reunion. I'll be in Fredonia from about 4-10ish on the 12th.
Nice one Bob. I wonder if you will miss a goal.
I hope to meet you there.
Andros Townsend booked for a rash challenge. He did learn something from Evil Neil.
Oscar straight at Lloris.
Vertonghen with a crack from really long distance that is high and wide after Torres cheaply conceded possession.
Paulinho into the side netting off a nice through ball from Townsend after a nice pass from Walker.
Paulinho into the side netting off a nice through ball from Townsend after a nice pass from Walker.
Two minutes of stoppage time as Paulinho made sure Bob did not miss a goal while in the loo.,
Two minutes of stoppage time as Paulinho made sure Bob did not miss a goal while in the loo.,
Eriksen booked for a foul on oSCAR on the break as Paulino cheaply conceded possession.
JT heads over a cross from Ramires after Lloris punched away the free kick
Halftime and 1-0 to Spurs as the student leads the teacher and Bob did not miss a goal while in the loo.
I just saw the goal as it started wit Torres ruining a long Chelsea possession by easily flopping down from minimal contact. Spurs went down the other end of he pitch and scored. Great run by Dembele and nice through ball from Eriksen, but Soldado will probably get credit for the assist due to the lay off to Siggy.
So Mou is obviously displeased with the first half performance and has put in the out of favor Juan Mata for the second period.
I can't believe me eyes! Joe Mou actually is bringing on Mata as a halftime sub as h replaces Mikkel. Second half underway.
What was this about Joe Mou not playing Mata and Oscar in the same side? What is this Joe Mou? You say one thing and do the other. How can we believe anything you say?
Hazard in the " number ten position " as Oscar is in his more usual role. Is Joe Mou admitting his tactics don't work?
Oh - a great chance there for Chelski as Torres broke free in the box. But the ball was just a bit too pacy for Oscar to get to.
Oscar shoots wide as he had an out stretched leg to a Torres pass.
I think he must be - this is virtually the same line-up that Rafa used all last season with the midfield diamond behind Torres up front.
So Joe Mou says one thing, but does the other?
Time for Raffa to return to the Bridge, LOL?
Spurs becoming the king of 1-0 wins. Gooners will not be pleased about that Plagiarism.
Barry Glendenning of the Guardian says of Chelski's first half play: "Their main plan seems to involve hoofing the ball long from deep for Oscar and Torres to chase. If any other manager - Tony Pulis and Sam Allardyce spring to mind - did it he'd be accused of employing caveman tactics, but as it's Mourinho we have to assume there's some sort of genius behind his decision to leave his most creative player on the bench while going route one."
Not at all; I'm sure that Gooner and dad aren't enjoying this display very much at all.
Vertongehn slaps Torres after a trip as it's Torres that goes in the book. Vertonghen somehow escaped punishment.
Vertongehn slaps Torres after a trip as it's Torres that goes in the book. Vertonghen somehow escaped punishment.
I am not sure they are. What is their tae on Vertonghen doing his best Bob imitation on Torres, LOL?
Another sparkling run from Torres there - something was in his half time cuppa.
Great run by Torres as Lloris came out to block his effort for a corner that is taken long and easily cleared.
Agreed with what you posted from the Guardian.
Celtic leading 2-3 at Killie early in the second half.
Cashley clears a cross from Walker for a Spurs corner.
The corner from Eriksen is headed out by Ivanovic then the return cross from Dembele is too long.
Oh - Mata has the ball in the net but unhappy for him, he's flagged offside.
And now Ivanovic is in some trouble. JT is debating with Mike Dean now. Last chance for Branco.
Mata has the ball in the back of the net , but is well offside off a pass from Torres, who did well to control a long diagonal pass.
I think JT was called over to control Ivanovic, which seemed to work. Great officiating from Mike Dean/
Lloris saved easily from Hazard after Mata missed his kick.
I received a text from UWS. Did you want to hear the latest?
More afters between Torres and Vertonghen. Mike Dean lecturing both players.
I think the insults were in English, not Spanish or Flemish.
Jayne Mansfield one up at Chesterfield. She's really enjoying a cigarette for that!
Townsend replaced by Chadli , another Belgian. Too bad Townsend is still not at ER.
What's the latest from UWS-land - stuck in the bog?
Please do not send Townsend back to Elland Road - please.
A flurry of yellow cards now - Vertonghen is the latest. And this is starting to get a bit chippy.
Vertonghen booked for a foul On Ramires, who was attempting to start a Chelsea attack. Mike Dean has had enough.
GOAL! The skipper equalizes for Chelski!
GOAL !!! 1-1 JT HEADS IN A FREE KICK FROM MATA. I SAW THIS GOAL.
From the free kick, Mata chips it in and it evades everyone but JT who finishes with ease.
1-1!
I wonder if Mata has finally proven his worth to Mou this afternoon. What a turnaround!
You will love this. UWS is out for the weekend as he will be attending a wedding and one of Tom's games.
HE should have unless Joe Mou is going to be a thickhead about this.
Hazard wins a corner off of Dawson.
There will be some dancing going on in Alexandria after that goal. It's good news for all of the big sides around Spurs and Chelski, for whom a draw is probably the best result.
THE corner from MAta is cleared away by the first man.
Probably true. Anything can still happen.
Chelski have the bit between their teeth now - still twenty minutes left in this one.
Both sides making changes now. Hazard off for Chelski - Schurlle on.
And Holtby on for Eriksen.
Don't call me Schirley on for Hazard and Holtby on for Eriksen. Poor by both managers./
If this holds up or Chelski run out winners, Mou will get the plaudits, but all that he's done is realize the error of his original line-up and reverted to Rafa's tactics from last year.
Forest have defeated Derby County 1-0. Your thoughts?
Forest have defeated Derby County 1-0. Your thoughts?
Not a fan of the Germans, MUR? Don't mention the war , eh?
Perfectly stated by Bob.
Forest were one of my picks for promotion; not surprised by that one. Strong side. The result knocks us (temporarily) into the bottom half. We need a result against Millwall at the Den today.
Don't like the war. Don't have an anti German bias, but am not a fan of pseudo footballers.
The match at Millwall should have been the noon kickoff.
The latest from UWS: He missed the Chelsea goal while in the loo.
Dawson booked for a trip on Torres.
ANother good free kick from Mata , but Ivanovic called for a foul.
Dafoe on for Soldado.
The unimpressive Soldado off and Ballhog Defoe on, as per the commentator's request.
Oh - Lloris has kept Spurs in this one with a great one on one save with Schirley.
Great stop by Lloris from Schirley as he rushed out to the edge of his box to block.
NO comments on UWS?
Lamps over a tasty looking free kick now....
Into the wall and away to safety.
Denbele tripped Mata. Lamps to take the free kick and blasted into the wall.
Jayne Mansfield still one up at Chesterfield and smoking while on top. would you pay to watch that?
Now then - Torres has clashed heads with Vertonghen. Both are already in the book - who's going off?
A clash of heads between Torres and Vertonghen as both have been booked.
Mike Dean has a decision to make...nothing much in it.
Torres is off!!!!
Torres sent off for a second booking. That seems harsh as both players appeared to go for the ball and Joe Mou not pleased.
Seems pretty harsh to me. I suppose you could say that Torres might have led with his elbow.
I guess a little rash by Torres. An excuse to send one of them off so he won't have to deal with their squabbles?
Shame for Torres who was looking lively in this second half. Oscar also being withdrawn now for another defender - Azpiwhatever.
Azpielcuietia on , not sure came off.
Mike Dean's decision probably squashes this match, I suppose. I expect a 1-1 draw now.
Oscar came off.
Spurs now with a chance to win it late.
Ta, Bob.
Arsenal will have a chance to go top, but an away match at the Liberty is no easy feat. That's the late one.
No Townsend a ER? He looked good today. Blame it on evil Neil, not the player
Which match will you watch at 9am - I think the Villa v. Citeh one is the featured one on this channel but the United v. Baggies might be on another NBC channel.
Can the Gunners maintain over the season with their small squad and history of winning the injury championship?
IS it? I could not find it.
No - I blame it on the emergency loan system. We've had this bad habit of relying overly heavily in the past on loaners who are mercenaries not interested in playing for the club.
It's on something called NBC Sports Live Extra - is that their on-line portal?
Good point. What about the latest UWS news and my Jayne Mansfield joke at 9:23?
Yes. It is their streaming video. All matches, but Citeh vs Villa will be on streaming video.
Shame - they should have it on CNBC or summit.
As predicted, this one is petering out.
Ballhog with a poke that was deflected out for a corner.
Into stoppage time as Cech comes to collect the corner.
I agree. Dafoe wins a corner. Cech catches the corner from Holtby.
Four minutes of stoppage time.
Nothing has changed my opinion about Spurs today. If they'd gone out and beaten Chelski 3-0 then I might have woken up to their potential as title contenders. But I'm not buying it. I still think it's the big three.
Celtic now 4-2 up at Killie Kilt.
Make that 5-2.
Agreed. I am not counting out Citeh or Chelsea.
Chadli latches onto a nice flick from ballhog and then leans back and launches one into Row K.
Mou is sharing a laugh with some of the Spurs staff now - not sure what that's all about.
Jayne Mansfield still one up at Chesterfield and smoking while on top. I think it's funny.
Lamps signals he's going to have to come off now. He's got a problem.
Anything is possible with Joe Mou
That will be extra stoppage time./
That should about do it.
A decent start to the morning, with more to come now. I'm off to clear some dishes before the 10 am EST matches.
It finishes 1-1 at SB and that's better for Chelsea, who finished with ten men.
Nice handshake by the Portugese men of war
Thanks for the reminder. I have some dishes to do too. BTW, Celtic have won 5-2 at Killie Kilt.
I'm back for the kick-off at Villa Park. Without Benteke in the ranks, I don't rate Villa's chances terribly highly.
Almost two minutes in from a lengthy trip to the loo. Citeh got revenge for their Cup Final defeat with an impressive 5-0 pasting of wigan in the Capital One Cup.
I second that. Another thrashing?
Time to go to OT on NBC Sports Extra.
Milner has the first chance for Citeh there - shanked it.
QPR are already 1-0 up - sounded like Joey Barton had a hand in it.
Here are the line-ups at the Den:
Evil Lions - Forde, Dunne, Shittu, Robinson, Malone, Abdou, Tortter, Bailey, Waghorn, Easter, Woolford.
Leeds - Kenny, Peltier, Wootton, Pearce, Warnock, Austin, Tonge, Murphy, Mowatt, Varney, Ross.
QPR are running away with this league. Five points up on Burnley in second.
Just got a "picture text" from UWS explaining his absence.
Shame about QPR. Doing it the boring way/
