Match 12 - Germany v. Portugal
Another day at Brasil '14 and another big match. It's the start of the tournament for both Germany and Portugal, as we get the lively Group G rolling today. This is also the US's group, so there is added interest in this morning's match. If, as expected, the Germans roll Portugal this morning, the US will have the happy opportunity to knock Skippy and his Portugeezers out next weekend. Join me on the LOB for all the action.

This has been a World Cup so far that has seen the stars shine and live up to their hype. Of those, Neymar, RVP, Robben, Balotelli, Benzema, and Messi have all scored.
Step up, Skippy. It's Cristiano Ronaldo's time to show that he's truly world class. If he can put an ordinary Portuguese side on his shoulders today, he could well join the pantheon.
Michael Bollocks is giving us a detailed chalk talk on ESPN now.
Miroslav Klose isn't starting today but will likely get his chance to get off the bench and shoot for Fatty Ronaldo's record of 15 tournament goals.
Gooner's not pleased that Stewart Robson will be doing the color for today's match.
An interesting German line-up: Four centre-halves in defence, a full-back in midfield, three False 9's and no strikers.
The big match today.
Not keen on this new German kit - has a hint of the Waffen SS about it.
And we're away...!
They're off from Salvador.
So it is a front three for der Mannschaft, with Muller up front centrally, Ozil out wide left and Goetze out wide right.
Good afternoon Bob. It's a pleasure to be chatting with you.
Oh - I thought that was an early goal there and I've done my shoulder in already with some inadvisable leaping about. Too early for that - I've got to warm up a bit for this long day.
An early German corner that is a complete waste.
The Germans have made all the early running.
Make. Sure to stay fit mate.
The Portuguese attacker Hugo Almeida looks a bit like David Seaman's younger brother who's a bit of a metrosexual and okay with a hairband.
First attempt by Ronaldo finds a moistened bint in the crowd behind the goal. She seems happy about it.
Oh - the Portuguese had a three on two there and Skippy was left with a shot from an acute angle. Hit Neuer with the shot.
Oh - end to end now as the Portuguese keeper Patricio knocks it straight to Khedira who just misses with his effort into an empty net. Should have been 1-0 Germans.
Raul Meirelles looks like he's an extra who's wandered off the set of a sequel to "The Road Warrior."
A close call for both sides. Rui Patricio passed to Khedira who shot wide of an open goal. Earlier Skipy was put through after Lahm was tackled but shot at Lahm.
Penalty to Germany. And yellow for Pereira who hauled back Goetze. Big chance now.
Penalty perrera fouls Goetze in the box.
Thomas Muller to step up....
Of course he's German and he scores.
1-0 Germany!
GOAL .Mueller tucks away the penalty in the corner.
The Portuguese defense look as if they're going to be breached at every moment.
Cracking start to this match. End to end stuff with lots of chances.
Lahm nicks the ball well and is tripped up by Moutinho. Lucky not to be booked.
Moutinho lectured for a poor foul on Lahm.
Just over by Nano after getting past Ozil. The closest the Portuguese have come to scoring.
My boy Nani!
Hugo Almeda down for Portugal.
Almeida has done his hammy, so he's replaced early on by Eder.
Eder on for Almeda.
Oh - Ozil provides for Goetze but Bruno Alves just got a nick in. Corner.
GOAL! Hummels converts from the corner.
2-0 Germans!
Great header there. Towering. And this is terrific for the US, as they'll have a wounded Portugal fighting for their lives to meet in the second match at the weekend.
Oh .Just wide by Gotze as he was set up by Ozil and
GOAL 2-0 as Hummel's heads in the corner from Kroos.
That was interesting. The Germans were all waiting for an offside flag that never came. Decent chance for Portugal.
And from the corner, Eder had a free header. A chance that drifts away.
Eder heads over the corner from Moutinhi.
Pepe has thrown an elbow and he's off with a straight red! A bit soft but it couldn't have happened to a nicer bloke.
Pepe sent off for an obvious elbow on Mueller. Then kicked out. What an idiot.
And that's probably a worse elbow there. The Portuguese are losing their heads now.
Oh - another great move there through Ozil and then a cross over for Goetze.
I am home from my workshop for a bit
All Germany?
Real total football here from the Germans. Hummels was in the center forward channel for a moment!
Ruddy Norah… THREE NIL!!!
11 out of 12 matches so far have had at least THREE GOALS!
Welcome, UWS - you've just got home in time to see Portugal put to the sword. Down 3-0 now and down to ten men! Muller with a brace!
And Muller is on a hat-trick in the first half!
Half time
Easy Peasy for the Germans
Two minutes of stoppage time.
GOAL 3-0 Germany.. As he turned Brunno. Alves Ann shot off of Rui Patricio
Germany comprehensively in control here at 3-0 as the players troop off. What can be going on in Skippy's head?
The Germans are three up at the half against ten man Portugal.
Hello UWS. This is done and dusted. Pepe sent off for losing it with Mueller.
UWS, I was just showing this clip from a new documentary made by a Fredonia alum. Listen for a familiar voice around a minute in:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UdQSxKQOUSA
The second half is underway. This one is done and dusted.
Ricardo Costs on for Miguel Veloso.
We're off again and 10-man Portugal have brought on specialist centre-back Ricardo Costa to fill the Pepe-shaped hole in their defence. There is now a Miguel Veloso-shaped hole in midfield instead.
Nani is penalised for bringing down Sami Khedira. Paulo Bento really needed to calm his players down at the interval or this could get out of hand.
I loved that video. Great by the voice.
Cheers, mate!
Agreed. This could be severe.
Oh - have your hat-trick! No - Muller puts his header over after Ozil hit the keeper with his effort. Should have been four.
Should have been four. Ozil shot at Patricia when clean through then Mueller headed the rebound ovei of an open goal.
This is the perfect match for Klose to come on and attempt to match Fatty Ronaldo's record.
Skippy has a chance for redemption now with one of his specialty free kicks.
Hits the wall...
Boateng fouls Skippy who makes the most of it. Into the wall by Skippy.
Schurlle on for Ozil now - good move. Loew can start resting a few for the Ghana match.
Schurrle Temple on for Beaker.
Oh - more good news for the US, as Cointreau pulls up with what looks like a grain stroin.
Looks like an groin strain for Coentrao.
Andre Almeida to come on for Cointreau.
Andre Almeda on in his place.
Oh - Goetze should have hit that one first time. Great ball over from Muller.
The sting has gone out of this one - bring Klose on!
Great break by Schurrle Temple and Goetze took too long to shoot as his shot was blocked for a corner.
With the jig very much up as far as this game is concerned and Portugal having used all three substitutes, the opportunity to bench their best player and give him a rest has been lost. Running around in this searing heat trying to limit the damage when your team, is three down must be incredibly tiring. I suspect Pepe won't be too popular at the team dinner table tonight.
Hummel's down after an awkward landing and replaced by Mustafi.
Germany win a corner after Joao Pereira does well to get back and deflect a sweeping Goetze shot over the bar. Nothing comes of it. Germany tore Portugal apart down the right there with strong running and some neat one-touch passing. In more bad news for Portugal, Raul Meireles appears to be limping.
I agree. He really let the team down.
Oh - big shout for a penalty now and Skippy is running after the ref.
Eder made a lot of that but I might have given a pen.
Great block by Neuer from Eder who went down looking for a penalty.
GOAL! Hat-trick for Mueller who rises to the top of the Golden Boot stakes!
4-0 Germans!
GOAL 4-0.Schurrle Temple got behind the replacement left back and passed it across the box. Patricia palmed it to Mueller who easily tapped it in for the first hat trick of the World Cup.
Poldi on for the hat trick hero.
Skippy hammers another one into the bottom of the wall. He's been miserable today.
Two minutes of stoppage time.
Skippy lines up his third free kick and at least hits the target. Great save by Neuer.
Neuer does well to push away the free kick from Skippy.
Skippy is a pouty little bastard coming off the pitch. You can't play bloody Real Betis every week, can you know, boy? No - you can't. Well beaten today.
That's it as Germany thrash Portugal 4-0.
Funny but true Bob.
Portugal comprehensively beaten by one of the tournament favorites 4-0. Skippy humiliated.
The Iberian Peninsula 1 Northern Europe 9!!!!
