I lost my GBB and MVP. I bet you will pick up points for MVP. Maybe even GBB.

3:56 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

It looks like a modified 3-4-3 for the Dutch. An odd formation, but they seem to make it work? Will United line up like that?

3:59 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The same formation for the Ticos.

4:00 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

They're off from Salvador.

COME ON YOU TICOS!

Do we really want Cinderella to continue to be a the ball or do we want cream to be in the last four

We are off

4:01 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I want Cinderella.

Blogger manunitedrules said...

Two consecutive CONCACAF opponents for the Dutch. The Argies will be a much tougher opponent if the Dutch advance.

4:02 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Naughty by De Vrij on Nelson Tejeda.

4:04 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

This is this referee's NINTH match

4:06 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

He's from Uzbekistan!

4:07 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

WOW! How does such an inexperienced ref get to officiate at the World Cup. I have given up trying to figure out FIFA.

4:07 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I remember him. He had a good match in the group stages when I was watching at Gooner Central. We were pleased with him.

4:08 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Robben runs down the wing and wins a corner for the Dutch
The first of the match

4:08 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Robben is tackled for a corner and doesn't fall to the ground.

4:08 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

It was Highway Robbenry vs Mexico.

4:09 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The Dutch used FIVE keepers in qualifying. They've settled on one now.

4:11 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Still don't like the colors
Holland should be wearing white shorts, Brazil should be wearing blue ones and so should Argentina

4:11 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

It's FIFA . Why do they feel the need to decide the uniforms? It's really none of their business.

4:14 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Cheering for Neymar. When will he be BACK?

4:16 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

What are they saying
Colombia wore red with blue
What's the diff with yellow and blue or blue and white with blue

4:16 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I'm not sure. I don't get it.

4:17 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I agree with the announcers . The Spanish ref had a mare yesterday. More like a Spanish waiter , like Manuel on Fawlty Towers. He had a mare when England played Uruguay. why would they give him a quarterfinal to officiate?

4:19 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Brazil have not been that impressive but have the Germans? Take away the Portugal mauling and all you have is a 2-2 with Ghana, 1-0 v US, Algeria 2-1 AET and France 1-0

4:19 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

No team has been that impressive

4:19 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Great ball from Campbell for Gamboa. A shame about the cross.

4:20 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Costa Rica get it down the right… hopeless cross

Where's the quality!!!

4:20 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Wonder if the NJ math teacher is still around
He's been good

4:21 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I completely agree. Whoever wins will do so having an not so impressive tournament. It reminds me of Germany in 1990.

4:21 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Heard that Arsene still wants to Campbell on loan

WHY?

4:21 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I agree. He's had a great tournament. So has the giant Argie.

4:22 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Great pass by Kuyt… gets to RVP… saved… should have scored

4:22 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

RVP has a shot well saved by Navcas off a great pass from Kuyyt then Schneijder shoots the rebound straight to Navas.

4:22 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Both of these teams fell behind in the first game with a pen but came back to win

4:23 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Great run by Robben then off with the final pass.

4:23 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

That's right . I forgot about that. Great memory.

4:24 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

all three of the quarters have been disappointing
This one is going the same way i'm afraid

4:24 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Both teams won from the spot last Sunday. With the Dutch it was Highway Robbenry.

4:25 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

this commentator is still mad with Robben from the Mexico game

I think Robben should have had two penalties before the one called

4:25 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

That's the second time you used that joke… I ignored it the first time!!!

4:25 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Memphid Dupay well offside to the point that you would think he's at the Elvis mansion then RVP well offside too. Are they headed to TN?

4:26 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I thought he flopped all three times. He falls so easily.

4:26 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Not nice UWS. It was pure quality. Better than the Great Train Robbenry.

4:27 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

These free kicks have been dire all tourney

4:28 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Decent Ticos free kick just too high for Borges.

4:28 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Most have . The exceptions have been the German free kick yesterday and the one from Messi vs Nigeria.

4:29 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Dutch are getting chances down their left… saved again

4:29 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Great pass from RVP and Memphis , TN Depaay shoots straight at Navas. Then Campbell called offside on the break.

4:30 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Has the passing been that great this World Cup? Not always.

4:30 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

RVP with a foul about thirty yards from goal. A striker's challenge.

4:32 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Poor free kick easily gathered by Cillesen.

4:33 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Naughty by Wijnaldum on Borges.

4:34 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

That was close by Costa Rica!

4:35 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Better this time as the free kick from Bolanos was flicked on and cleared by the Dutch. They counter and win a free kick as Robben was fouled.

4:35 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

This guys says barely a foul… he hates Robben

4:35 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

ANOTHER pathetic free kick

4:36 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

absolutely pathetic free kick from Kuyyt.

4:36 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I hate Robben too, but it was a definite foul. Something must have happened last Sunday to irk them.

4:37 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Junior Diaz booked for a foul on Robben.

4:38 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Linesman called that one

4:38 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Finally a good free kick

Great save by Navas

4:39 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Navas superbly turns around the free kick from Schneijder. That was a good free kick.

4:39 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

A corner actually beats the first man
COmes out and WHIFF!!

4:40 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Memphis Depaay looked more like like Memphis, TN as he completely missed the ball and fell flat on his arse. Looked more like Elvis there,

4:40 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

The Dutch keeping the ball but going absolutely no where

4:41 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

How does the ref book a player for a foul if the lineman called the foul? That means he booked someone when he didn't see what happened or was it something he said?

4:42 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Better from the Dutch. Nice through ball from Robben for RVP , but Navas was out really quick to gather.

4:42 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

He is supposed to get help
they are assistant referees

4:43 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

RVP called for a foul off a pass from Memphis, TN Depaay.

4:43 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Again, has the Dutch looked that good
I think they are the same as Germany
Started with a bang 5-1 v Spain, struggled but won 3-2 with the Aussies, scored two late goal v Chile and then two goals after the 88th minute v Mexico

4:44 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

What are CR yelling at the ref about

4:45 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I understand and agree for the foul, but how would he know it's a booking. Usually the "assistants" just tell them it's a foul not if it's a bookable offense. How does he book someone if he doesn't know the severity. All he knew is that it was a foul;. Am I missing something?

4:45 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

A minute of stoppage time.

4:46 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

THey have headpieces

4:46 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I agree. You just mentioned that they scored two late goals in their last two matches. Will that be the case today?

4:46 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Ta. I didn't see him talking to the linesman. Thanks for clearing that up. Now it makes sense.

4:47 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Not an impressive half

Disappointing quarters… please don't let this WC just whimper out

4:47 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Halftime and 0-0. I expect the Dutch to score in the second half and win this. As you stated they scored twice late in the previous two matches. I wouldn't be surprised to see that in this match.

4:48 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I agree . It would be a shame if this tournament fizzles out.

4:48 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Ok, kids finally put to bed. I am ready to enjoy a little football with my full attention.

As to your last comments, I mostly agree that the quarters have been played quite close to the vest. However, it looks like in this one the ball has been moving from defense to offense fairly quickly, though certainly CR is bunkering in.

5:01 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

At this point, the majority of the goals in the quarters have been scored by central defenders. I think that says it all.

5:03 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Good evening Red Devil. How have you been? CI agree that the Ticos are really well organized.

5:03 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The second half is underway

5:03 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Good evening RD
We're off in the second half

5:04 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Good point . Only one goal has been scored from open play.

5:04 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I still have a feeling that the Dutch will score in the second half . Somehow they find a way to do it and the Ticos have not really offered anything in the attacking third.

5:05 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

You are correct
Germany... header from free kick
Brazil…inner thigh and free kick
Colombia… pen
Argentina…open play
here…nowt

5:07 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

This has been a tourney with some tremendous keeper performances. Nevertheless, if Holland wins, I think they and Argentina have quite shaky keepers.

5:07 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Second half hasn't improved

5:07 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The fewest goals in the quarters was seven in 1990. Is that record about to fall?

5:09 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

CR is well-organized, but even the Greeks were able to break them down - though not score. I think the Dutch will manage to break through, simply because they have some dynamic players and will start to attack relentlessly.

5:09 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I think it was a foul on Robben, but not a booking.

5:10 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Schneijder shoots well over off a short free kick./

5:10 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Different idea from free kick… well over

5:10 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Good points. RD. The announcer said that the Dutch used five keepers in qualifying and Romero for the Argies primarily sat the bench at Moncao this season./

5:11 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

why can't these teams go out and try and win!
GO FOR IT!!

5:12 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I agree RD. The Dutch should find a way to break down the Ticos. The Greeks didn't threaten until the Ticos were down to ten men. Will Robben resort to diving to try to ensure that happens?

5:13 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

RVP is tackled for a corner.

5:13 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

I want to see Memphis. He is the most exciting young player in the tourney for me.

5:13 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

De Vrijj has a header blocked off the corner.

5:13 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I have enjoyed watching J Rod. Memphis has been off with his passing today.

5:14 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I think the Dutch are trying to win. It's a case of their passing being off and having trouble breaking down the Ticos. The Ticos are set up to play like they are due to the fact that they are a team of journeyman players.

5:15 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I am getting very annoyed with these quarters!!!

Campbell was looking for that pk to overtly.

5:17 PM

Great run by Diaz . Never a penalty on Campbell.

5:18 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Why did Campbell fall…. try and shoot!!

5:18 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Matt thinks it was a pen
Push in the back

5:18 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

That would be great . Great to see Mike is getting a chance to watch.

5:18 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Sorry, 'too' overtly. Ok, that was a more convincing foul.

5:19 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

This one was a foul. The one in the box was a fall.

5:19 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

high wide and orrible

5:20 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The free kick from Bolanos was well over. They need to do better as set pieces will be their best chance of scoring.

5:20 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

So annoyed you said it twice. To be honest, I am starting to feel the same. I hope the semis are better.

5:21 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

I wonder why Bolanyos wears that thing on his head. His hair is not long (and if it were - cut it!), and it must make his head even hotter.

5:21 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Will the Hunter come off the bench like he did against Mexico?

5:21 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Yellow? How many yellows should Brazil and France have received for shirt-tugging yesterday?

5:22 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Bruno Martins booked for an off the ball foul. Well spotted. He was the one involved in the challenge on Campbell in the box.

5:23 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

MUR - I don't think so. Holland has no reason to rush things.

5:23 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Te long free kick was headed high and wide.

5:23 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

The Arsenal man is the first to come off

5:23 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Urena on for Campbell.

5:24 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Sigh… the crossing!!!

CR have a chance to put a ball into the danger area… overhit again!!

5:25 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Are you sure. I thought he came on around this time vs Mexico. I don't think the Dutch want ET , especially as they awopuld play the Argies in three days providing that they advance.

5:25 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Robben makes a good run
RVP tries to do a one two… cleared

5:25 PM

Robben was just too far ahead

This 'other' commentator is annoying me

5:28 PM

CR have been really disciplined. The Dutch are having difficulty breaking them down as did Uruguay, Italy, England, and Greece.

5:30 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

It would be nice to have a lot more cards in the tourney, so that managers would be forced to bring more defenders and defensive midfielders. As the tourney progressed, the quality of the defenders would go down.

5:30 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I am disppointed with the Dutch. I expected this from the Ticos , who are not a team made up of world class players. Agreed that Van Gaal may be at OT on Monday.

5:31 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Thanks RD. It feels like a Sunday today since it is a three day weekend. Correct it is Wednesday.

5:31 PM

In Spanish, the bicycle kick is known as 'la Chilena.' I think that is fitting, as most of the time it is a highly risky, borderline silly move.

5:32 PM

Vlaar heads over the free kick from Schneijder. A familiar sight to Villa fans.

5:32 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Agreed. It is spectacular when it works , but many times it is a flop.

5:33 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Jermain Lens on for Memphis , TN.

5:33 PM

I wonder if the Dutch would have qualified for the WC if they were in the CONCACAF. They are struggling against our Central American foes.

5:34 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Lens plays for Dynamo Chicken Kiev.,

5:34 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

They would , but probably would have done so grinding out victories.

5:35 PM

I like the idea of the cards. We definitely need goals and FIFA's idea of letting things go has definitely not worked.

RVP fails to control a long ball and the Ticos are able to clear.

5:43 PM

MUR, that must hurt to see RVP do that.

5:46 PM

welcome back. The steak dinner had to be better than this match

5:48 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Four minutes of stoppage time. I thought that was a dive by Robben, but Junior Diaz did clip him inches outside the box.

5:49 PM

Announcers here made an interesting point. Though CR looks like it plays a standard flat back four, Costa usually does not mark other players, but fills in behind (or better said, next to) his fellow defenders.

5:49 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

BOOM BOOM RD. Nice joke about Lens . Funny but true.

The free kick from RVP is straight to Navas then somehow RVP has a shot cl;eared off the line.Somehow the Ticos are still in this.

5:51 PM
