Sorry for the double line ups there
You can figure it out
Hello UWS. Someone on FB called them Costa Rice, so I replied with Dutch Chocolate.
Nice one
COME ON YOU TICOS!
Ta. I am ready for this match. will there be an early goal like there was in the other quarters?
Teams in the tunnel
I wonder if Bob and Steve are out somewhere and recording the matches on the DVR.
In the words of Dionne Warwick, " Do You Know the Way to San Jose?"
Here they come
Matt just said that Di Maria is out of the rest of the world cup with a muscle tear… there goes my Final scorer
I lost my GBB and MVP. I bet you will pick up points for MVP. Maybe even GBB.
It looks like a modified 3-4-3 for the Dutch. An odd formation, but they seem to make it work? Will United line up like that?
The same formation for the Ticos.
They're off from Salvador.
COME ON YOU TICOS!
Do we really want Cinderella to continue to be a the ball or do we want cream to be in the last four
We are off
I want Cinderella.
Two consecutive CONCACAF opponents for the Dutch. The Argies will be a much tougher opponent if the Dutch advance.
Naughty by De Vrij on Nelson Tejeda.
This is this referee's NINTH match
He's from Uzbekistan!
WOW! How does such an inexperienced ref get to officiate at the World Cup. I have given up trying to figure out FIFA.
I remember him. He had a good match in the group stages when I was watching at Gooner Central. We were pleased with him.
Robben runs down the wing and wins a corner for the Dutch
The first of the match
Robben is tackled for a corner and doesn't fall to the ground.
It was Highway Robbenry vs Mexico.
The Dutch used FIVE keepers in qualifying. They've settled on one now.
Still don't like the colors
Holland should be wearing white shorts, Brazil should be wearing blue ones and so should Argentina
It's FIFA . Why do they feel the need to decide the uniforms? It's really none of their business.
Cheering for Neymar. When will he be BACK?
What are they saying
Colombia wore red with blue
What's the diff with yellow and blue or blue and white with blue
I'm not sure. I don't get it.
I agree with the announcers . The Spanish ref had a mare yesterday. More like a Spanish waiter , like Manuel on Fawlty Towers. He had a mare when England played Uruguay. why would they give him a quarterfinal to officiate?
Brazil have not been that impressive but have the Germans? Take away the Portugal mauling and all you have is a 2-2 with Ghana, 1-0 v US, Algeria 2-1 AET and France 1-0
No team has been that impressive
Great ball from Campbell for Gamboa. A shame about the cross.
Costa Rica get it down the right… hopeless cross
Where's the quality!!!
Wonder if the NJ math teacher is still around
He's been good
I completely agree. Whoever wins will do so having an not so impressive tournament. It reminds me of Germany in 1990.
Heard that Arsene still wants to Campbell on loan
WHY?
I agree. He's had a great tournament. So has the giant Argie.
Great pass by Kuyt… gets to RVP… saved… should have scored
RVP has a shot well saved by Navcas off a great pass from Kuyyt then Schneijder shoots the rebound straight to Navas.
Both of these teams fell behind in the first game with a pen but came back to win
Great run by Robben then off with the final pass.
That's right . I forgot about that. Great memory.
all three of the quarters have been disappointing
This one is going the same way i'm afraid
Both teams won from the spot last Sunday. With the Dutch it was Highway Robbenry.
this commentator is still mad with Robben from the Mexico game
I think Robben should have had two penalties before the one called
That's the second time you used that joke… I ignored it the first time!!!
Memphid Dupay well offside to the point that you would think he's at the Elvis mansion then RVP well offside too. Are they headed to TN?
I thought he flopped all three times. He falls so easily.
Not nice UWS. It was pure quality. Better than the Great Train Robbenry.
These free kicks have been dire all tourney
Decent Ticos free kick just too high for Borges.
Most have . The exceptions have been the German free kick yesterday and the one from Messi vs Nigeria.
Dutch are getting chances down their left… saved again
Great pass from RVP and Memphis , TN Depaay shoots straight at Navas. Then Campbell called offside on the break.
Has the passing been that great this World Cup? Not always.
RVP with a foul about thirty yards from goal. A striker's challenge.
Poor free kick easily gathered by Cillesen.
Naughty by Wijnaldum on Borges.
That was close by Costa Rica!
Better this time as the free kick from Bolanos was flicked on and cleared by the Dutch. They counter and win a free kick as Robben was fouled.
This guys says barely a foul… he hates Robben
ANOTHER pathetic free kick
absolutely pathetic free kick from Kuyyt.
I hate Robben too, but it was a definite foul. Something must have happened last Sunday to irk them.
Junior Diaz booked for a foul on Robben.
Linesman called that one
Finally a good free kick
Great save by Navas
Navas superbly turns around the free kick from Schneijder. That was a good free kick.
A corner actually beats the first man
COmes out and WHIFF!!
Memphis Depaay looked more like like Memphis, TN as he completely missed the ball and fell flat on his arse. Looked more like Elvis there,
The Dutch keeping the ball but going absolutely no where
How does the ref book a player for a foul if the lineman called the foul? That means he booked someone when he didn't see what happened or was it something he said?
Better from the Dutch. Nice through ball from Robben for RVP , but Navas was out really quick to gather.
He is supposed to get help
they are assistant referees
RVP called for a foul off a pass from Memphis, TN Depaay.
Again, has the Dutch looked that good
I think they are the same as Germany
Started with a bang 5-1 v Spain, struggled but won 3-2 with the Aussies, scored two late goal v Chile and then two goals after the 88th minute v Mexico
What are CR yelling at the ref about
I understand and agree for the foul, but how would he know it's a booking. Usually the "assistants" just tell them it's a foul not if it's a bookable offense. How does he book someone if he doesn't know the severity. All he knew is that it was a foul;. Am I missing something?
A minute of stoppage time.
THey have headpieces
You could see him put his hand to his ear to find out the number
I agree. You just mentioned that they scored two late goals in their last two matches. Will that be the case today?
Ta. I didn't see him talking to the linesman. Thanks for clearing that up. Now it makes sense.
Not an impressive half
Disappointing quarters… please don't let this WC just whimper out
Halftime and 0-0. I expect the Dutch to score in the second half and win this. As you stated they scored twice late in the previous two matches. I wouldn't be surprised to see that in this match.
I agree . It would be a shame if this tournament fizzles out.
Ok, kids finally put to bed. I am ready to enjoy a little football with my full attention.
As to your last comments, I mostly agree that the quarters have been played quite close to the vest. However, it looks like in this one the ball has been moving from defense to offense fairly quickly, though certainly CR is bunkering in.
At this point, the majority of the goals in the quarters have been scored by central defenders. I think that says it all.
Good evening Red Devil. How have you been? CI agree that the Ticos are really well organized.
The second half is underway
Good evening RD
We're off in the second half
Good point . Only one goal has been scored from open play.
I still have a feeling that the Dutch will score in the second half . Somehow they find a way to do it and the Ticos have not really offered anything in the attacking third.
You are correct
Germany... header from free kick
Brazil…inner thigh and free kick
Colombia… pen
Argentina…open play
here…nowt
This has been a tourney with some tremendous keeper performances. Nevertheless, if Holland wins, I think they and Argentina have quite shaky keepers.
Second half hasn't improved
The fewest goals in the quarters was seven in 1990. Is that record about to fall?
CR is well-organized, but even the Greeks were able to break them down - though not score. I think the Dutch will manage to break through, simply because they have some dynamic players and will start to attack relentlessly.
I think it was a foul on Robben, but not a booking.
Schneijder shoots well over off a short free kick./
Different idea from free kick… well over
Good points. RD. The announcer said that the Dutch used five keepers in qualifying and Romero for the Argies primarily sat the bench at Moncao this season./
why can't these teams go out and try and win!
GO FOR IT!!
I agree RD. The Dutch should find a way to break down the Ticos. The Greeks didn't threaten until the Ticos were down to ten men. Will Robben resort to diving to try to ensure that happens?
RVP is tackled for a corner.
I want to see Memphis. He is the most exciting young player in the tourney for me.
De Vrijj has a header blocked off the corner.
I have enjoyed watching J Rod. Memphis has been off with his passing today.
I think the Dutch are trying to win. It's a case of their passing being off and having trouble breaking down the Ticos. The Ticos are set up to play like they are due to the fact that they are a team of journeyman players.
I am getting very annoyed with these quarters!!!
I am getting very annoyed with these quarters!!!
CR is keeping their discipline. How did the US end up ahead of this team in qualifying? Oh yeah, a snowstorm.
Junior Diaz heads out a cross from Schneider for a corner that is easily headed away
My brother Mike is going to see the start of the stage of the Tour de France on Monday. It starts about a four iron away from his house
I told him he should hold up a sign
How about Johnny Hates Jazz Rules would be subtle
Campbell was looking for that pk to overtly.
Great run by Diaz . Never a penalty on Campbell.
Why did Campbell fall…. try and shoot!!
Matt thinks it was a pen
Push in the back
That would be great . Great to see Mike is getting a chance to watch.
Sorry, 'too' overtly. Ok, that was a more convincing foul.
This one was a foul. The one in the box was a fall.
high wide and orrible
The free kick from Bolanos was well over. They need to do better as set pieces will be their best chance of scoring.
So annoyed you said it twice. To be honest, I am starting to feel the same. I hope the semis are better.
I wonder why Bolanyos wears that thing on his head. His hair is not long (and if it were - cut it!), and it must make his head even hotter.
Will the Hunter come off the bench like he did against Mexico?
Yellow? How many yellows should Brazil and France have received for shirt-tugging yesterday?
Bruno Martins booked for an off the ball foul. Well spotted. He was the one involved in the challenge on Campbell in the box.
MUR - I don't think so. Holland has no reason to rush things.
Te long free kick was headed high and wide.
The Arsenal man is the first to come off
Urena on for Campbell.
Sigh… the crossing!!!
CR have a chance to put a ball into the danger area… overhit again!!
Are you sure. I thought he came on around this time vs Mexico. I don't think the Dutch want ET , especially as they awopuld play the Argies in three days providing that they advance.
Robben makes a good run
RVP tries to do a one two… cleared
The Dutch win a corner . Good run by Robben, but not sure what RVP was thinking.
STAY ONSIDE RVP
Nice run by Robben, but great tracking back from the midfield by CR.
I could see the knock back that RVP was trying
Robben was just too far ahead
This 'other' commentator is annoying me
Gamboa down for the Ticos. It looks like he twisted his ankle when he landed. I think that will be it for him.
20 minutes to find a winner… will we get one in that time
Very disappointed with both teams
I think the second semi is not until Wednesday.
Maybe Van Gal will be at Old Trafford on Monday!!
CR have been really disciplined. The Dutch are having difficulty breaking them down as did Uruguay, Italy, England, and Greece.
It would be nice to have a lot more cards in the tourney, so that managers would be forced to bring more defenders and defensive midfielders. As the tourney progressed, the quality of the defenders would go down.
I am disppointed with the Dutch. I expected this from the Ticos , who are not a team made up of world class players. Agreed that Van Gaal may be at OT on Monday.
Thanks RD. It feels like a Sunday today since it is a three day weekend. Correct it is Wednesday.
In Spanish, the bicycle kick is known as 'la Chilena.' I think that is fitting, as most of the time it is a highly risky, borderline silly move.
Vlaar heads over the free kick from Schneijder. A familiar sight to Villa fans.
Agreed. It is spectacular when it works , but many times it is a flop.
Jermain Lens on for Memphis , TN.
I wonder if the Dutch would have qualified for the WC if they were in the CONCACAF. They are struggling against our Central American foes.
Lens plays for Dynamo Chicken Kiev.,
They would , but probably would have done so grinding out victories.
I like the idea of the cards. We definitely need goals and FIFA's idea of letting things go has definitely not worked.
You guys were right, Depay was pretty anonymous today. He looked so good versus Australia. Oh, right. That was Australia.
Dave Myrie is on for the injured Cristian Gamboa.
Good point, RD.
Great save by Navas from a header by Lens , but he was offside. A great cross from Kuyyt.
I don't think the Dutch would want ET. They will have four days rest.
"After I grabbed him to slow him down illegally, he dove."
Gonzalez brings down Robben just outside the box and is booked , but goes down so easily . That's what frustrates everyone.
Nice one, RD. Good point.
The free kick from Scheijder comes off the post and the Ticos survive .
Another free kick for the Dutch and won yet again by Robben.
Great save by Navas from RVP off the free kick after he was guilty of a poor punch from the free kick.
RVP fails to control a long ball and the Ticos are able to clear.
Robben does well to win the ball off of Bryan Ruiz in midfield. Scheijder is flagged offside.
Lens needs to get his lenses adjusted. He is constantly offsides.
MUR, that must hurt to see RVP do that.
OH! How did RVP miss that? He should have won it for the Dutch. great cross from Scheijder , great possession, and RVP completely misses it from close range.
Just got back from a lovely steak dinner
How did RVP miss it
4 added minutes
It does , but I am used to that after a poor United season. I could give you a list of United players who have frustrated me this season.
welcome back. The steak dinner had to be better than this match
Four minutes of stoppage time. I thought that was a dive by Robben, but Junior Diaz did clip him inches outside the box.
Announcers here made an interesting point. Though CR looks like it plays a standard flat back four, Costa usually does not mark other players, but fills in behind (or better said, next to) his fellow defenders.
BOOM BOOM RD. Nice joke about Lens . Funny but true.
RVP straight at keeper… and THEN… how did CR survive!!
In-cred-i-bi-le. repeated thrice by the announcers here.
The free kick from RVP is straight to Navas then somehow RVP has a shot cl;eared off the line.Somehow the Ticos are still in this.
Good point RD. I hate to say this, but CR play a zone defense similar to that in college basketball.
Robben flagged offside.
No way was Robben off there!!
Full time
Extra time to follow
It's 0-0 and we have another half hour of this drudgery.
In fact the announcer is saying that Navas is a greater keeper than he ever was. Who is the color commentator? Lucca Marchigiani, who filled in for Gianluca Pagliuca in 1994.
I don't know MUR, those last 10 minutes, Holland has really been turning up the heat. It's getting pretty exciting.
What are those black flac-jacket things some Dutch players are sporting?
The Hunter should come on sooner rather than later.
I think if Holland gets a goal, they'll get another if CR must open up. Unless Schuerrle (sp?) ends up at the end of it.
The announcer said that The Dutch have never won in ET in World Cup history. The Ticos did last Sunday.
Off we go
Schurrle? He is German. The Dutch sure could use him.
ET is underway.
I think the Dutch attacked the last ten minutes because CR is tired. That may be a factor in ET.
Robben flagged offside. That was close.
This linesman doesn't seem to understand the offside rule
The Dutch win a corner.
