Lakenheath Old Boys
We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Good afternoon, Bob. I should be around for the majority of the action. Some of the matches kick off at 3:45 PM EDT and some kick off at 4.
Kickoff times for the televised matches:
Shrewsbury vs Chelsea at 3:45 PM EDT
Liverpool vs Swansea at 4 PM EDT
Thanks for correcting me, MUR - you're absolutely correct. I haven't yet caught up with UK DST. I'll see you back here in an hour or so.
I've just been prompted to "prove you're not a robot." On my own blog! The bloody cheek!
The first three match-ups have kicked off.
Jose Mourinho not exactly taking this one seriously. Here's the Blues line-up at Shrewsbury:
Cech, Christenson, Zouma, Cahill, Felipe Luis, Mikel, Ske, Salah, Oscar, Schurrle, Drogba.
I should be on in a few minutes . BEIN is not taking my U_verse account, so I'm looking for another link.
So, It's not the Taming of the Shrews? He needs to read the book!
I'll be watching the big all-Premiership clash between Pool and Swans at Anfield. Here are the sides:
Pool - Jones, Manquillo, Toure, Lovren, Johnson, Lucas, Henderson, Markovic, Coutinho, Borini, Lambert.
Swansea - Tremmel, Rangel, Fernandez, Williams, Taylor, Dyer, Fulton, Shelvey, Montero, Gomis, Emnes.
I am watching what should be the taming of the Shrews.
Sounds like a plan, mate.
Cech had to make a great save from a close range header from Nat Knight -Percival then Cahill was nearly caught out by a long ball, but Cech was out to mop up.
Schurrle Temple with a long range effort that looked like it was from Shirley Temple.
It may be a second tier competition, but it's always first tier banter on the LOB.
Looks like Shrewsbury are giving it a go - Cech pulls off a great save against Knight-Percival's header.
Chelski now keeping possession and making the Shrews chase them
A long range effort from Pratt is several feet over, but as you stated , they are giving it a go on a rainy evening.
We're about to get some thunderstorms rolling in, so I may bail out on the office and run home to follow proceedings at home on BEin.
Nat Knight -Percival is mopping up at the other end with a timely interception of a through ball from Schurrle Temple intended for Salah.
That is a great idea. I hope you make it home safely. Catch you later
It's strange how Chelsea are scheduled to play just over 49 hours after a gruelling match at OT. They should have scheduled them tomorrow.
The locals are delighted as Salah skews an effort high and very wide.,
I'm taking stock of those PPPers still in the League Cup:
Blue Devil, Gooner, UWS - Spurs
Red Devil, Swansong, Yellows - Pool
Red Dragon - Newcastle
STrose - Citeh
Simon - Chelski
I'm off home, mate - rain's a coming.
Drogba with a really poor cross. That's the second time a long possession has ended due to a poor pass or cross by him.
Cheers mate. I look forward to chatting with you in a few minutes
A horrible foul by Nathan Ake on James Collins . It should have been at least a booking, but nothing given
Still scoreless in all five matches this evening in the second tier cup.
Drogba called offside. He's having a poor evening. I wish he did the some on Sunday afternoon.
Shrewsbury win a corner.
The corner from Liam Lawrence is cleared. Chelsea counter and now have a sustained spell of pressure.
Chelsea could have scored on the break off the Shrewsbury corner. Drogba found Christansen, who dribbled the length of the pitch. His cross should have been headed on target by Schurrle Temple, who headed across the box.
Salah cut inside , but curled an effort high and wide.
BLODY NORAH!!! Salah is having a mare and catching some well deserved stick from the locals for a left footed effort that went out for a throw a good ten yards from the corner flag.
Oscar has a pass to deflect to Drogba , who scores, but the goal is disallowed for offside.
I just beat the rain home - it's now pouring.
I see that Dembele has opened the scoring for the Cottagers against high-flying Derby.
Finally, a goal as Fulham take the lead vs Derby County.
Isn't Dembele with the Spuds or did he move back to the Fake Cottage.
Nothing doing off the Chelsea corner.
A minute of stoppage time.
I'm delighted to hear you out beat the storm. The storm may be more interesting than Chelsea's first half performance.
Liverpool and Swansea are half an hour in and scoreless. I'm watching on BEin.
It's halftime and the locals are delighted that Chelsea are being held 0-0. Jose will not be pleased.
Well, it's Jose's fault, really. Look at the group of second-raters that he put out?
Free kick chance now for the Swans - Shelvey over it.
Cleared out and then deflected wide from Dyer.
And another foul on the edge of the area - this time by Henderson who's begging for a yellow.
Oh - Shelvy draws a brilliant save out of Jones. Pool under the cosh now.
Peep peep - the ref blows for half time at Anfield. 0-0 here as well. Not a lot of goals in the Capital One tonight.
Dembele has added a second goal for Fulham right on the stroke of half-time at Craven Cottage.
It's 2-0 there and Fulham are cruising it.
Dembele has scored a second goal as Fulham have gone two up vs Derby
The second half is underway from Shropshire.
Jose didn't have much of a choice. The schedulers weren't thinking when they scheduled Chelsea just two days after the match at OT? They could have had them play here tomorrow.
Oscar has a shot blocked for a corner as the Shrews could not clear their lines.
The Shrews cannot clear again, but Zouma helps them with a header well wide.
GOAL !!! DROGBA GIVES CHELSEA THE LEAD.
Schurrle Temple had a pass deflected to Salah who picked out Drogba, who scored with a left footed shot in the corner.
I saw the goal coming as the Shrews could not clear their lines and Chelsea had been pressing . Jose must have mentioned that in his halftime talk.
Nearly a Chelsea second as the keeper did well to tip over a powerful effort from Schurrle Temple from about 30 yards out.
Derby County have pulled one back at Craven Cottage while the Cherries have taken the lead vs the Baggies.
Sorry mate, but I have to bugger off to an appointment. The late kickoff wreaks havoc with the schedules. I hope you have a great rest of the day. Cheers mate.
High flying Bournemouth - who destroyed Brum 0-8 at the weekend - have taken the lead against the Baggies. O'Kane with the goal.
Cheerio, mate!
We're back on at Anfield now for the second half. I have a feeling that the goals will start flying in around the 70th minute mark.
The Swans taking it to Pool again. This not been an impressive outing for Liverpool.
Dyer clumsily barged over by Johnson there. You've seen them given.
Derby have turned it around at Craven Cottage - it's Desmond there!
This has been a shocking display by Brendan Rogers and the Reds today. Realistically, this is the only trophy they have a chance of winning this season and they're throwing away the chance.
In an evil match-up, MK Dons have taken the lead against the Blades. That suits me fine.
Derby have really turned it around - it's 2-3 now!
Dawkins with the "go ahead goal" as the Yanks would say.
So as it stands going into the last half hour today, Bournemouth, MK Dons, Chelsea, Derby and someone from this match will go through.
Oh - first decent chance this half falls to little Coutinho who collects a decent ball in from Henderson and wellies it well over the bar.
So I'm watching the only 0-0 draw now (sigh)....
Another goal in Shropshire...and it's gone to Shrewsbury!!!!!
Wahey!
GOAL! The Swans have taken the lead - and deservedly so. Nice finish by Emnes past Jones.
0-1!
As I predicted, the goals are flying in now. Hendrick has scored a fourth for Derby now.
Oh - nearly a second for Emnes, but Jones collects this time. Liverpool living dangerously now.
The front line of Borini and Lambert has looked absolutely toothless this afternoon.
Oh - Glen Johnson nearly equalizes!
Crazy game at Craven Cottage - it's 2-5 now. Derby have put five goals past the Cottagers in this half.
Normal service resumed in Shropshire. Chelski benefit from an own goal in the 81st minute.
1-2 there.
Lallana coming on now to try and rescue this one.
Balo looking especially put out this evening on the bench.
The Baggies have equalized right at the death - that one should go to extra time and possibly pens.
More goals in the Capital One Cup:
The Blades have equalized in the 86th minute through Higdon.
And Bournemouth are back in the lead through an own goal. There have been a free of those tonight.
Oh dear - it's Balo time. This could get really interesting in a hurry. Old Man Lambert trudging off after a disappointing outing.
Balo trotting on as if he's going to have a Sunday afternoon kickabout in the garden.
Into the 80th minute now - time for Pool to throw caution to the wind.
Gary Monk retorts by throwing Wilifried Bony on, his top scorer.
Bournemouth and Chelski are into the 5th round draw, to take place tomorrow afternoon.
Higdon has scored another goal late on to secure passage for the Blades. Yeck.
GOAL! Balo comes good!!!!!!
Borini winged a beautiful ball over and Balo volleys home his first goal at Anfield.
Kolo Toure picks up a late yellow card.
Oh dear - Balo lines one up and hoofs it into the Kop.
Red Card for Swansea - Fernandez has been sent off for a two-footed one against Lallana.
That seems really harsh on Fernandez. He didn't go in studs up, just with his knee.
Balo hoofs another one into the Kop End from the free kick. He doesn't have his shooting boots on tonight.
Liverpool trying to finish off Swansea now.
Handbags now between Shelvey and Balo. He's trying to contain himself but he can't help.
GOAL! Lovren nods home the winner!!!!!
2-1
It's a howler from Tremmel who came but got nowhere near it and Lovren came round the back to get his first for the Reds.
That's that - Liverpool are the last team into the 5th Round draw.
Over and out from the Cottage.
Hiya, lads - I'm back on Wednesday afternoon to follow the proceedings in the 4th Round of the League Cup.
Early goals in the matches this afternoon. The Magpies have jumped out to an early lead at Citeh through Aarons, so early that i bloody missed the goal!
And Citeh are facing another blow, as David Silva has hobbled off injured.
Young Aarons is giving the Citeh defense all sorts of fits, drawing a foul out of Sagna.
Taylor hits the subsequent free kick into the wall.
Pelle has opened the scoring away to Stoke, to the delight of everyone but Sparky Hughes.
The Spurs v. Brighton match appears to have just started after about a fifteen minute delay.
Oh - tidy little Citeh move ending with two bites of the cherry for Jovetic.
The crowd noise is definitely muted on this BEin coverage and the commentary sounds canned, as if the commentator is in a studio somewhere watching on a monitor.
Oh - mad scramble in the Newcastle box - the Magpies just about hanging on to that lead.
Oh - off the crossbar after a deflection by Collocini. Citeh piling the pressure on now.
Shame Long has fired the Saints into a 0-2 lead at Stoke.
Oh - great save with his knees by Caballero! Newcastle nearly 0-2 up!
Now it's Yaya down for the count, and Pellegrini is not liking this at all. Could be a rather expensive League Cup clash with the derby coming up Sunday.
Oh - Yaya has come back on and immediately pulls a great save out of Elling.
Last minute corner from Milner - nodded over the top by Yaya.
The Saints have gone in 0-2 up
Still 0-0 at Shite Fart Lane.
Oh - another great chance for the Toon just on the stroke of the half-time whistle. Obertan fired over a great ball but Armstrong's effort was just wide.
We're back on at the Etihad, the holders searching for an equalizer.
Spurs and Brighton have reached half-time at 0-0.
N'Zonzi has pulled a goal back for Stoke at the Britannia.
Oh - great free kick routine ends with Kolarov whizzing a ball across the area. No one on hand to supply the finishing touch.
You know, when you leave your top scorer on the bench, Manuel, you don't really care very much about winning the trophy, do you?
Obertan roofs it into the top of the net but he's ruled offside.
Good afternoon, Bob. I'm surprised Pelligrini didn't put out a decent side. I thought he would want to retain the trophy they won last season
Another indication that Pellegrini is looking toward Sunday rather than trying to win today - Yaya off and Navas on.
Another indication that Pellegrini is looking toward Sunday rather than trying to win today - Yaya off and Navas on.
Afternoon, MUR - it's a shocking display from Pellegrini and Citeh - but Newcastle are taking full advantage. They could be two or three up.
I have the match on and the Toon are one up at the Etihad . As things stand, the holders are set to crash out.
Perhaps some late drama like there was yesterday at Anfield.
My video stuttered , but the Toon and Alan Pardew were shouting for a penalty.
Oh - that could easily have been a penalty to Newcastle with Obertan streaking through and brought back by Kolarov. Should have been given.
And now it's a yellow for Mangala - I don't understand that at all.
It definitely looked like a foul on Ober in the box. Citeh were lucky there,
Dead cert penalty on the replay.
Kun Aguero has been thrown on now - should have been on from the off.
I didn't either. Kolorov should have been sent off and it should have been a penalty to the Toon
Aguero on for Nasri. A sign that Citeh are desperate. I agree with you that he should have started. I guess he's being rested ahead of the Manc Derby and a CL match next week.
The Spuds are one up vs the Seagulls. Is that old news?
How's your day been, mate?
It's just a shame when the holders of a competition can't be arsed to challenge for it.
A free kick from Kolorov is straight to reserve keeper, Rob Elliott.
I had a pretty busy day. How was yours?
No - the match at Shite Fart had about a 15 minute delay for some reason.
GOAL! Sissoko scores a second goal for Newcastle!
I agree. As holders , I thought that they would make an effort to retain their trophy,
Great stuff from Sissoko there who burst through the make-shift Citeh defense and flicked beautifully past Caballero into the side netting.
And some Poznan action from the Toon Army
AND NO!!!
GOAL THE TOON GO TWO UP AS CISSOKOKO IS ALLOWED TO WALK THROUGH THE CITEH DEFENSE AND WILLY CABALLERO SEEMED NONE TOO CONCERNED AS HE WAS TOO EASILY BEATEN AT HIS NEAR POST. HE DIDN'T EVEN MAKE AN EFFORT TO SAVE THE SHOT.
Stoke have pulled it around. They were 0-2 down at the interval and it's now Desmond. Diouf with the equalizer.
Citeh are piling on the pressure once again. They need a goal now to have any hope of taking this one to extra time.
Oh - Taylor with a marvelous block on the line from Dzeko's effort. Wow!
Oh - Navas blows a big chance. A real sitter. That will keep him on the bench for some time to come.
Peter Crouch has been sent off and the Saints have retaken the lead!
Pelle with a brace now - 2-3 Southampton.
Milner wins another corner.
I'm back . I was on the phone with Elizabeth . It appears that we are going to get a much needed new roof.
About a minute plus stoppage time remaining. This one is pretty much done and dusted. The holders are about to be eliminated.
Harry Kane has added a second goal for Spurs now and they're home and hosed.
Sounds good - is it going to be a lengthy process?
The fans are headed for the exits as they enter stoppage time. Six minutes! I guess they have a chance if they score now.
I don't think so. We're getting money from the insurance company. We are getting a bid tomorrow. If we get a good quote then we will begin once we get our supplemental check.
Southampton are through to the 5th Round draw then. Good win away from home. They are flying these days.
Three minutes left for Citeh. Ameobi nearly picked off a backpass there.
They sure . The Toon are on a run of good form as well.
I think that with Citeh in this kind of indifferent form, United have a real chance at the weekend.
I won't be around this Saturday for the same reason that I wasn't this past Saturday, but I will definitely be around for the Manc Derby on Sunday
No way through for Milner and Citeh.
I sure hope so. I just hope they aren't like a wounded animal.
Sounds good - you're keeping busy, I see.
Yes - let's hope not.
Yes. I am really busy these days.
That's it - the holders are out!
Newcastle are on to the quarters.
I'm off to rake some leaves while there's still some daylight. Cheerio, mate!
It's over and the Toon win 0-2 at the Etihad. A great win for them.
Cheers mate. Enjoy. It was great chatting with you.
