The Start to Another Big Weekend
I'm up early at the Cottage settling in to enjoy another huge Premiership morning. It's just started with table topping Watford kicking off against Brighton in a crucial Championship clash. At the bottom of the hour, we've got a Yorkshire derby with my beloved visiting well, Not a Big Club at All. Then the Premiership takes over with a Europa League qualification clash between Soton and Spurs. At 10 am EST we've got a relegation dogfight between Leicester and Burnley. Finally the late one features a faltering Citeh against a relegation threatened Villa.

News out of Blighty that Jack Grealish has been caught using nitrous oxide. Outrageous stuff and Tim Sherwood is not best pleased.
An early morning of MOT now. Here's the team that will line up at Hillsborough shortly:
S. Taylor, Wootton, Bamba, Cooper, Berardi, Austin, Murphy, Byram, Mowatt, C. Taylor, Morison.
No room for a lot of the Italian players that Cellino brought in earlier in the season and who were accused of boycotting last weekend's match.
Good morning Bob. It sounds like all part of a typical Saturday. There are two ninth birthdays today. Happy Birthday to LOB and Sparky.
Matters about to kick off at Hillsborough - come on, you Whites. I want to see a break in the losing trend.
I think it's no Italian players because I think Berardi is Swiss. It's a match played under unusual circumstances because neither team has anything to play for except for pride.
Morning, MUR - thanks for joining me. You're a wee bit early on the birthday wishes for the LOB though. It's April 30th - I'll be posting a thread on Thursday of next week and already have a lovely image of our old stomping grounds at LHS to go.
I agree. COME ON YOU WHITES! Is any of that stuff still on the ground at Fred Town . It looked like Not a Big amount of snow.
NBC Sports debuting "Pundits in the Pub," a new panel show tomorrow at 2pm. Could be fun. I'll be DVRing it.
Cheers mate . We are planning something for Sparky's ninth birthday today.
Sounds great . I may do the same.
It's 0-0 in both Championship matches.
Perhaps a Sunderland away win at Stoke to celebrate Sparky's birthday?
Perhaps a Sunderland away win at Stoke to celebrate Sparky's birthday?
Back with a cuppa . I think I will switch to the Prem match in a few minutes.
The teams lining up at St. Mary's right about now:
Saints - Davis, Clyne, Fonte, Yoshida, Bertrand, Schneiderlin, Alderweireld, Ward-Prowse, Mane, Davis, Pelle. Subs: Gardos, Long, Tadic, Elia, Gazzaniga, Reed, Targett.
Spuds - Lloris, Dier, Fazio, Vertonghen, Davies, Mason, Bentaleb, Lamela, Eriksen, Chaldi, Kane. Subs: Chiriches, Soldado, Yedlin, Vorm, Townsend, Dembele, Stambo.
So, who will end the day in 5th - we'll see shortly with this one.
Fred would definitely like that. Sparky has yet to pick a team. I was thinking of Luton since it's in Bedfordshire. They're at fourth placed Southend today. That along with the Oxford / Cambridge fixture should be the top matches in League 2.
Not a lot going on at Brighton?
Daniel Tozer, the Magyar on for the injured Anya. The loss of one of Scotland's top attackers may sting the Hornets.
Right, that would be an appropriate pick for Sparky.
Correct. Accept for that substitution not much. . A moment of silence at St. Mary's
They're off from the home of Pompeys hated rivals.
And we're off at St. Mary's.
If Liverpool win the late match at the Hawthorns then they remain fifth, no matter what happens here.
That is true - but a win for either of these two this morning will put some pressure on them. It could still be that all three will gain Europa League berths, even if they don't want them.
FYI. The past playoff spot in League 2 is between your Argyle and Luton. Argyle are at home to last placed Trannie. Will Argyle show any mercy?
The Spuds win a corner.
it's headed away by Nat Clyne.
Deeney has put Watford 0-1 up in the 29th minute. That will firm up their position at the top of the Championship.
Just a s I switch off BEIN, top of the table Hornets take the lead at the Seagulls.
It's a bizarre EL race. Fifth placed Liverpool are one point ahead of the seventh placed Saints, but the Saints have the best goal difference. I have a feeling that this won't be decided till the last match of the season and seventh definitely not till the Cup Final has been played.
Will Argyle show bottom of the table Trannie any mercy? Probably not as Argyle and Luton are battling for that last playoff spot.
I wonder if Dier is named after his crossing.
Boom boom! Nice one, MUR - getting in the puns early doors.
I have a riddle for our Bob. Why won't Jackie C fit inside Hillsborough?
Cheers mate. How about the riddle?
Jackie Charlton? I dunno, MUR.
since they're Not a Big Club , it's Not a Big Stadium. The Big Man simply won't fit.
Indeed - nice one, mate.
I know it's the custom to give a former manager stick, but the fans have a really short memory. But for Pochettino , they would n't be anywhere where they are today. That doesn't sound like the work of a wanker.
The goals have dried up for Graziano Pelle. He was on fire at the beginning of the season.
I agree with you, mate. I would have thought that Saints fans would have had a warmer reception for the great man.
Cheers. He has a connection with both clubs , but probably much stronger with the Whites. I'm not an expert in this rivalry, but I would say a big part of it is that so many players have transferred from one club to the other. It has to be more that than geography as the likes of Hudders, Bradford, and Halifax are much closer.
They say he's hit the upright half a dozen time during the drought. Bad luck more than loss of form?
True - but those other clubs are truly smaller clubs, whereas Wednesday have had lots of opportunities to play against us over the years. No love lost for sure.
OH !!!! Both Saints fullbacks put tasty passes in the box, but nobody was there to connect. Then Schneiderlin is called for a foul on Harry Kane.
Oh - Bertrand fizzed a cross into the six yard box. No one on the end of it. It shows us why they haven't been scoring much lately.
From the text coverage on the Football 365 site, the affair at Hillsborough looks scrappy. Not a lot of good football on offer so far.
Watford are one up at Brighton despite the loss of the talismanic Anya.
Sorry to say, but I'm not surprised. Both sides are mid table teams waiting for the season to end. Highly unusual in this rivalry.
Bitter cold and sunny here today. Only 27F right now in Freetown.
The Hornets are on track to stay top as it's halftime.
I can't wait for this season to end for us next weekend. It'll be a rebuilding operation over the summer.
Bugger! Sam Byram has conceded a penalty!!
Yikes. It's a muggy start to the day. Already a muggy 77. It's supposed to be a muggy 90 this afternoon. There should be a break from the mugginess Wednesday through Friday
And Not a Big Club have taken the lead - Maguire converting the pen.
1-0 (sigh)
BUGGER. NOT A BIG CLUB TAKE THE LEAD. Sorry Bob.
James Ward- Prowse wins a corner for the Saints.
Oh - Lloris somehow tips Schneiderlin's effort around. Close call!
A superb save from Lloris from Schhneidelrin off the corner from James Ward- Prose. The second corner from the same person is cleared.
The saints are starting to dominate.
We'll sink back down to 16th on 52 points on that goal.
The Spuds break through Lamella , who is dispossessed. Now the Saints attack./
Sorry mate.
The Saints are giving Pochettino a taste of his own medicine as their high pressing game is giving the Spuds all sorts of problems.
Watford are 0-1 up at Brighton at half-time.
Yep, the Saints have certainly been the better side.
GOAL! Pelle is back in business!
Hey Boys
I am here for a while
Sotton take the lead as I join LOB
Le Tis is a happy chappy on SS
A comedy of errors at the back there. What was Ben Davis thinking there? And then a slip from Ryan Mason allowed Pelle in.
1-0 Saints.
Sorry about Leeds Bob
Just like UWS, I missed a goal while in the bog and a collector's item as it was from Pelle.
Saints up into 5th on 59 points now. Goal difference is good, too - 22 points.
He scored last week or the week before
Morning, UWS - welcome, mate. How was your week?
Good morning UWS. Great to have you around.
So, it looks like Watford are going up
I appreciate the thoughts about Leeds. Our season is over really and I'm just focused on what the summer will bring for us. But getting turned over at a local rival today will just add insult to injury.
A tasty free kick from James Ward- Prowse , but nobody was there to connect
I agree, UWS, and then they'll be coming straight back down after a quick year in the Prem.
Long week of the state tests of course
Not a lot of students opted out but who knows what the State is going to do
Ben Davies, who was at fault for the goal, is booked.
Spurs not enjoying their South Coast visit. Ben Davies now picking up a yellow.
We had a district near here, West Seneca, where there was a 72% opt out rate. Now the governor is threatening parents. Shocking stuff.
I wish students could opt out in Texas. It was a busy week of testing for Middle and elementary school. The big week for high school will be the week after next, along with AP testing.
Good job with taking the quiz I posted
I thought I did well but didn't
A lot of them looked very familiar
I got Shearer of course, Pele, Robbie Keane and of course Marco TARDELLI!!
I thought SAF was Shanks
It is amazing you know everyone's style
That doesn't sound like a fun week at all, mate. Best of luck with it.
Disgraceful from the governor. Our legislature decided to be lenient on out high school students. A couple of years ago the state went from fifteen to five STAAR tests. Now the students need to pass only three of those to graduate. Some people call it" The dumming down of Texas."
The Federal government is threatening too
I don't know why - they just looked familiar.
I only got five out of ten. I sucked at that quiz.
I think all of the ones I got were bankers
I can see the others NOW
Is it as chilly out in Scotia this morning as it is here? Really cold for late April. I wanted to do some yard work this weekend, but I don't fancy freezing my bum.
Back to Watford. Promotion is not definite even if they win today. If Middlesbrough win at the Fake Cottage and the Cheers win on Monday, there will be one point separating first from third going into the final day of the season. any one of those three could end up in the playoffs. Promotion is not a given for the Hornets.
Wide by Steven Davis off a pass from Ryan Bertrand . Nice saints possession.
Oh - Mason had a nice volley blocked there.
Bournemouth play at home to Bolton on Monday
If scores go a certain way, the top two could be decided this weekend... which is amazing with how close it has been!
Watford win
Bournemouth win
Boro lose at Fulham
Norwich fail to win at Rotherham
Half time at Hillsborough - Not a Big Club still 1-0 up.
A powerful effort from Mason is blocked . Now the Spuds are on the attack. Both teams are playing as if they want to b in the EL.
It's really a fascinating promotion race. I think Middlesbrough are the best equipped to survive in the Prem./
I think that might well happen. And I think the playoff spots are just about sorted. Brentford and Wolves have pretty much blown it for this season. Would love to see one of the East Anglians go up.
GOAL! Lamella has equalized!
It has been bloody freezing this week with some horrible wind. I had my winter coats out!
I think it is supposed to be in the 50s today and that is an improvement
GOAL!!!
1-1
GOAL !!! 1-1 LAMELLA TIES IT UP FOR THE SPUDS.
Spurs had been knocking at the door for a few moments. Der finally found a decent cross and Lamella was able to flick it off his Parrothead past Kelvyn Davies.
The Spuds had been threatening the past minute or two . The Spuds had been won the ball in midfield. Eriksen , who found Kane. He passed to Dier, whose cross was powerfully headed in by Lamella.
Was that goal a handball?
HT
I'll be back
You won;t want to hear that highs here have been near 90 with the heat index around 100 with a breeze to take of ff the warmth
Looks like it might have been a "Hand of God" goal for Lamella.
It's 1-1 at the half. Should be an interesting second half.
Half time, then. 1-1.
I always enjoy watching the fans in the background when the away side score. They're always mouthing something really rude "F--k off, you c--t" at the player who has scored.
The Hornets are still one up
That one would apply to Lamellla, who in true Argie fashion, "fisted" it in. Both televised matches are from the South Coast
Another change for the Hornets as Vydra, the Czech international, is on for Ighalo, the Nigerian international
Angella, the Italian, is booked for a lunge on Craig Mackail-Smith
A poor free kick from Bennett as it was headed away by the first man.
Back to the goals just down the coast at St. Mary's, the Saints shouldn't complain about the goal I missed in the bog. Pelle looked as if he pushed Ben Davies in the back prior to scoring , so that one probably should have been disallowed too. Fazio was at fault for being dispossessed just outside his box.
I'm back with a second cuppa. We're back on at Hillsborough. Come on, you Whites!
Abdi shoots just wide for the Hornets then Troy Deeney appeared to have twisted his ankle. That would really sting the Hornets.
Welcome back, mate.
MOT!!! COME ON YOU WHITES!
Did you all notice that if Chelsea win tomorrow at the EM and on Wednesday vs the Foxes then they will be Prem Champions? Talk about clinching it early!
The second half is underway
Cheers, mate. Yeah - I did notice that. It could easily happen. Unfortunately, there might not be a lot of drama left for the last couple of weeks.
I made an error. Pool are at the Hawthorns at 10 AM, not in the late match.
WAY LEEDS TIE IT UP.
CONGRATULATIONS, MATE!
Wahay! Charlie Taylor has equalized for us.
1-1 at Hillsborough!
wahey... I come back and Leeds tie it up!
Love to see Villa keep it on a roll in the late match!
Is he from the Academy? Either way , it's game on !
Oh - Ward-Prowse misses a golden opportunity.
United will drop to fourth with a Villa loss
James Ward- Prwose drags a shot wide after great work by Mane . He should have at least hit the target.
Yeah - Charlie Taylor is home grown. I would much prefer a squad full of Academy prospects rather than the Carlos Kickaballs that we had this season. We wouldn't win anything but the home crowd would be happier.
The best matches are tomorrow. I expect a Citeh win. Most of their losses have been due to their "away day blues", not their home form.
Definitely true mate. If Russell takes over than the big time Charlies may eat Crowe.
I certainly hope so. The Gladiator will sort them out. Boom boom!
I hope last week's loss doesn't stop the United mojo
I am still pissed about Chelsea
That is not the way would-be Champions should play at home.... and be proud of it!
Jose complains when Big Sam brings at team and play
"19th Century Football and parking the bus"
That's what you do Jose!
I don't care if you win... if you do it... don't complain when they do it to you
Oh - Davis should have put the Saints two - one up there. Another huge chance.
Just saw a Crowe movie last night after a visit to an English pub for some fish and chips with some mates
OH!!! Steven Davis blasts wide from close range, missing a great chance. Great work down the left by Mane and a nice, cheeky back heel from Pelle.
Well done, UWS. A great way to spend a Friday night.
BOOM BOOM BOB!
I agree with UWS about Chelsea. Jose is a hypocrite. However, would a Chelsea win at the EM be good from a United point of view.
Oh - Bertrand has a cross cum shot deflected toward goal that LLoris has to deal with.
lloris does well to tip over a deflected cross. The corner is taken short and crossed straight to lloris.
Now Chadli has a shot deflected for a corner. Steven Davis clears off the line from Chadli off the corner.
There may not be drama for the Prem title , but there is still plenty of dram for other races. There is a three way fight for second through as there is for the EL race. It's really tight in the race to escape the trap door too. Still plenty to play for in the Prem.
Off for walkies
Shadow is being my shadow right now
I'll be back
Good luck to your lot Bob for a winner against Wednesday on a Saturday
I'll be back
Cheers, mate - get walking!
YESSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!
Steve Morison, you beauty!
1-2 Leeds!
If the Hornets win today then they go up with a win vs Not a Big Club next Saturday. Middlesbrough will host the Seagulls while the Cherries will be at Charlton. The Canaries will host the Fake Cottagers and Leeds close out the season with a Yorkie Derby at ER vs Rotherham
Only Morison's second goal of the season after his move from Norwich last year. But a priceless one.
way hay. Well done Whites. It would be great to end the season with consecutive wins vs two South Yorkshire mugs.
An attacking move by the Saints as Shane Long is on fdr James Ward-Prowse.
GOAL !! 2-1 SAINTS AS PELLE HAS A BRACE.
GOAL! Pelle sticks in a beauty of a header to fire Saints back into the lead.
2-1 Saints as Shane Long knocks over a great cross and Pelle rises majestically to nod home.
That substitution immediately paid off as the Mane of the match found Shane Long down the right and his tasty cross was headed in by the unmarked Pelle.
The Hornets are still one up in stoppage. Not a Big Club will really see that they are Not a Big Club if they see the Hornets , who have a much smaller following, clinch promotion next Saturday
The Spuds may miss out on their annual pilgrimage to the EL.
The Hornets have gone tow up in the fifth minute of stoppage time at the Seagulls. All they need is a win vs Not a Big Club next Saturday
GOAL !!! DESMOND AT ST. MARY'S
GOAL! Chadli fires right back - Desmond at St. Mary's!
Inside the last ten minutes at Hillsborough.
The goal came off a long Spuds possession then a superb eye of the needle pass by Dier found Pelle , who scored with a great finish past Kelvin Davis. The same combination as the first spuds goal.
Sorry Chadli scored with a great finish, but a pair of great assists from Eric Dier.
Chatters seems to be preparing to come on.
Bad news for the Spuds and wales as Ben Davies is down with what appears to be a dislocated shoulder after an accidental slip.
The Hornets win 0-2 at the Seagulls and I'm thinking Bob will be hoping they go up as the Hornets host Not a Big club next Saturday
Ben Davies is stretchered off. Ciraces , from Transylvania , is on in his place. He wouldn't look out of place in "Young Frankenstein.
Based on the end of season fixtures next Saturday, I am expecting the Hornets and Middlesbrough to go up next Saturday
A minute plus stoppage time remaining at Hillsborough. Nail biting from our Bob?
surely, Fazio trips Mane off the ball. Nothing doing.
I am biting my nails over this one; this would be an excellent late season win for us.
Another attacking move as Elijia is on for Steven Davis.
Bentaleb is booked for trip on the Mane of the Match, just outside the spuds box.
Mane bursts through and picks up a late free kick chance. Schneiderlin to take.
Fazio heads away the header from Shane Long off the free kick from Schneiderlin
A Belgian swap as Dembele is on for Chadli
WAY HAY!!!! LEEDS WIN 1-2 AT THE AWFUL HILLSBOROUGH. WELL DONE, BOB. I AM SURE YOU ARE DELIGHTED WITH A WIN AT THIS VILE TEAM.
Wahay! Full time at Hillsborough and we've put Not a Big Club to the sword.
That's 55 points on the season - that'll do.
Leeds technically had nothing to play for, but it was against one of their main rivals.
You can get 58 points with a win vs another South Yorkshire rival next Saturday
An attacking , but useless change for the Spuds as Soldado is on for Bentaleb.
I was delighted to see Sevilla make it to the semis on Thursday, but they have a tough semi vs Fiorentina. If Sevilla retain the EL then I could end up in a creditable mid table position and you may win a tight PPP race.
Now Schneiderlin is down for treatment . There should be about eight minutes if stoppage time.
A standing ovation for the industrious Frenchman as he hobbles and the theatrical , ginger haired Harrison Reed comes on in his place. I think it's like for like.
Seven minutes of stoppage time. Off by a minute as Reed fouls Mason just outside the box.
Late free kick chance for the Spuds - cleared out by Fonte.
Fonte heads away the free kick from eriksen
Bob may not give a toss about the result ,but would be delighted to see Harry Kane off the score sheet.
Dembele fouls the Mane of the match. The siants now have a corner
I am delighted - but he and Sergio both have a goal more than my boy Diego. So - if he's out for the rest of the season, I'm buggered on that one. At least we still have Sevilla in the Europa League.
Alderwereild heads straight to Lloris off the corner from Elia,.
Elia has a poor pass cleared for a corner by Fazio off a nice pass from Mane of the Match as the corner from Elia is cleared.
Just about out of time now....
Correct. I may have a creditable mid table finish, but it will be a challenging semi vs the Violas.
Fazio is booked for a poorly time challenged on Shane Long.
I am back having missed two goals
Last chance for the Saints?
