Lakenheath Old Boys
We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Good morning Bob. I always have time for a natter. There's a Cup semi in between as well. A busy Sunday today.
The team news from Manchester this afternoon:
Man City: Hart, Zabaleta, Mangala, Demichelis, Kolarov, Lampard, Fernando, Jesus Navas, Toure, Silva, Aguero. Subs: Sagna, Nasri, Dzeko, Caballero, Fernandinho, Boyata, Pozo.
West Ham: Adrian, Jenkinson, Collins, Reid, Cresswell, Kouyate, Song, Noble, Downing, Cole, Valencia. Subs: Nolan, Jarvis, Nene, O’Brien, Amalfitano, Jaaskelainen, Burke.
Referee: Anthony Taylor (Cheshire)
They're off from the Etihad
Of course - shame on me for forgetting the Cup semi final. Welcome, MUR.
A must win match for Citeh. The Hammers are basically playing for pride.
Cheers Bob. I will watch it on Gooner's link.
If you are around the Toon vs the Spuds will be shown on CNBC.
Despite United's loss yesterday, I can't really see Citeh overtaking them in third spot, so I think the top four are locked in. This is a bit of a moot affair today.
Thanks for that program note. Busy day for us today, so perhaps not.
I heard Arlo getting excited while I was fixing a cuppa.
Referee Taylor is not happy with that Zaba tackle on Song.
II agree with Timmy . That looked a fair tackle by Zabba on Song.
Nothing that exciting to stir Arlo up so far.
Private Jenkinson fouls Kolorov just outside the box.
Complete domination of possession by Citeh now.
Thanks Bob. Good to know nothing was missed. I hope you get everything accomplished. I think I finished everything except putting the laundry away yesterday, albeit I was busy till about 1030 AM
Citeh need to create chances. In some of those defeats they have dominated possession, but created precious little.
Sorry. I meant to say till 1030 PM.
The wedding invitations are due to go out this weekend, so we have to finalize the registry details today. That's along with the usual Sunday things - laundry, food shopping, cooking for the week.
Silva shoots over from outside the box. Valencia tackled Aguero then lost the ball to Zaba , who passed to Silva
First shot on goal, from Aguero straight into Adrian's hands.
It sounds like a busy Sunday indeed. Once you finalize the invitations, things should calm down. I did the other things plus mowing, edging , and sweeping yesterday. That might explain why I slept so soundly last night.
The Hammers take a short corner that eventually makers it to Song and he scoops it to Hart.
I think so, too. Once we get through this month, it should be easy peasy through the rest of the semester.
Lampard wins a free kick off of Winnie Reid. I didn't see much in that. It's a couple of yards behind the D
OH!!!! the free kick from Kolorov was inches wide, beating Adrian. It deflected out for a corner.
Aguero finds a lucky fan in the cheap seats after ping pong action from the corner taken by Navas
GOAL! Unbelievable o.g. from James Collins that looped over his own keeper's head and in. The dangerous Jesus Navas ball in did the damage.
1-0 Citeh!
GOAL !!!! CITEH'S PRESSURE PAID OFF AS JAMES COLLINS SCORES AN OG WHERE HE LOOKED MORE LIKE JOAN COLLINS. NAVAS HEADED THE GOAL KICK TO AGUERO DOWN THE RIGHT AND HIS CROSS WAS KIND OF CRAPPY, BUT DIVERTED IN BY JOAN COLLINS FOR AN EMBARRASSING OG.
Sorry you are correct. Navas put in the cross. He won the header in a challenge with Cresswell off a mediocre goal kick and went on a solo run, but it was still a crappy cross.
I thought it was a decent, probing ball in but you're right that Collins should have been able to clear it away to safety.
Great tackle by Fernado on Coyote after Zaba terribly conceded possession. Fortunately for Citeh, Fernando loves to chase down Coyotes.
I don't see why Joe Hart was being lectured. Valencia should have been because he got in the way. I don't blame Hart for being upset. English refs used to be the best . Not any more.
West Ham are finding it difficult to string a group of passes together into something coherent.
The best way to describe that last cross is that the cross from Ten Downing Street cleared the Thames.
I agree. That's why I called him Joan Collins.
Morning boys
I am here for a while but I have a lot of stuff today around the house
Still really bummed about yesterday
United were the better side by far. Chelsea had less than 30% possession and Bloody Jose is happy about it
You're supposed to play like CHAMPIONS!
I read online that the Semi Final beat the Park the Bus at the Bridge in the rating
GOOD OLD FA CUP!
City's goal came from another crap cross by Navas. How does he play every week!!!
My sound sleeping gives me an excuse to promote a beer. When I went grocery shopping a kind old lady had samples of a new beer being brewed in Houston. I brought a six pack. The beer is called Occulto. It's tequila flavored beer and 6% alcohol. European type strength?
First danger for Citeh snuffed out by Joe Hart in the sweeper role.
Good morning UWS. I completely agree with you about the United match. Chelsea will be champions, but have been doing nothing ,but grinding out results like a Serie A team most of the season
Morning, UWS - cheer up, mate. It's Sunday!
Some gossip going around
United want to buy Benteke
DiMaria wants to stay and is extending lease on his house
Glad to hear about the FA Cup . Good to hear that. I agree with you about Navas. You will probably agree that the OG made him look more like James Collins.
Benteke? He couldn't score to save his granny earlier in the season.
An easy save for Hart from Valencia.
That is good news about the appeal of the FA Cup. I still think that the Cup semi finals should be played on a day that has no Premiership distractions. I even made the cardinal error this morning.
A headline on Soccernet yesterday
Chelsea Masterclass
REALLY!!!!!
Now Jose is saying We had United in our pockets
IDIOT
He's been scoring lots of goals since Tim Sherwood took over. I blame his drought on lack of service. He will get plenty of good service at United, so I think that will be a shrewd signing. I don't care about Di Maria's lease. He's in la la land. He needs to piss off .
Gerrard starts for Liverpool. Will he last more than 38 seconds
Liverpool: Mignolet, Can, Skrtel, Lovren, Moreno, Allen, Henderson, Gerrard, Markovic, Coutinho, Sterling
Subs: Jones, Johnson, Toure, Lambert, Manquillo, Borini, Balotelli
Aston Villa: Given, Bacuna, Baker, Vlaar, Richardson, Westwood, Delph, Cleverley, Grealish, N’Zogbia, Benteke
Subs: Guzan, Okore, Sinclair, Weimann, Cole, Lowton, Gil
I don't get it. The goal was an error by De Gea. I f united had finished better then they could have won by several. Jose is trying to save face.
That's a good question, UWS.
Chelsea's goal should have been disallowed because of a forearm to the back of the head by Terry on Falcao as they got possession
Navas booked for a stupiud foul on Song, who made a superb tackle on Aguero.
Not at all a masterclass, IMHO. The pundits will put it down to Mourinho's genius, but any bog standard fan could have done the same. Pack the midfield with excellent athletes, put men behind the ball and look to the one or two creative players to nick a goal. How difficult is that?
I'd like to see Mou try to manage a relegation threatened side like Burnley to safety - then he'd have proven himself to me.
Chelsea were definitely lucky, but the title is all but theirs.
GOAL! Aguero sticks in #20 to threaten my GBB stakes. Bugger!
Two nil Citeh
Good break
Nice pass by Navas...shocker... Aguerro slots it in
GOAL !!! AGUERO PUTS CITEH TWO UP ON THE BREAK AS HE NUTMEGS ADRIAN.
Matt will be dancing
Lightening quick break there between Navas and Aguero.
2-0 Citeh!
I've still got the Arsenal v. Liverpool Cup Final prediction in the bag, mate. Matt should be praying that Sunderland win this afternoon.
It started with a tackle by Yaya off a sloppy pass from Ten Downing Street . Aguero went on a solo run., passed off to Navas , then Navas played back a nice pass fro Aguero to slot through Adrian's legs.
Pre-match for the Cup starts at 9:30 on FS1
No network coverage today for the Prem or Cup but yesterday... how things have changed in this country. 2 our the 4 networks were showing live football at the same time
Sunderland doesn't play this afternoon. It's the Toon vs the Spuds.
Second Scottish FA Cup semi final into the last few minutes
It is Super Cally 1 Celtic 1
Celtic are playing with ten men as their keeper was sent off for the tying penalty
I was mentioning that yesterday. It does show how far footie has progressed in this country
The winner plays Falkirk of the Scottish Championship in the final
The winner will play Falkirk in the Final who beat Hibs yesterday
Final whistle just went
Extra time heading our way
I'm listening to Five Live btw
That goal from Aguero will Costa Bob some points . I'm thinking that one of the Nocitos may overtake him in the standings.
Where did Sunderland come from!!
You meant Villa
Have I told you that I hate dark nets!
They need to be white!!
Hate the Citeh nets!!
I think Pool play with Red... don't like it
Matt's a big Villa fan today
A minute of stoppage time.
If Villa win then Matt should celebrate with vanilla ice cream in support of Aston Vanilla.
Half time
Off to loo and shower
TMI
Citeh are cruising as they are two up vs the Hammers at the half.
Sorry - I meant Villa. Yeah - Matt should be wearing the claret and blue today. Still - I'm predicting that "It's coming home, it's coming home, it's coming...."
Lots of goals in that Scottish Cup Semi. It was 1-1 heading into ET . It's now Desmond. Callie took the lead against the ten man Hoops. Then John Guidetti, the Citeh reject, tied it up.
It will be a close race in the PPP.
The second half is underway
I see that you Revs have a trip to the hapless Union this afternoon. My adopted Orlando City were thrashed 3-0 at Someone's Crew yesterday
A superb sliding tackle by Private Jenkinson on Aguero for a Citeh corner. Now the GBB is down.
The corner is headed away as Aguero is still down. Bob will be interested.
Aguero is back up and looks ready to add to his tally
I'm back after mixing up some blueberry pancake batter for brekkies.
Don't be hoping that Aguero will be adding to his tally today. I want my Shield back!
Citeh searching for that third goal to kill off the match.
Sounds like a great brekkies. Citeh have been camped near the Hammers goal, buyt can't add to the tally.
Silva is booked for a foul on Winnie Reid. Silva says poo to Anthony Taylor.
Cresswell clears for a Citeh corner taken short and another poor cross from Navas.
I am back
Players warming up at Wembley
Looks like Villa are wearing their colors
Liverpool wearing yellow
North of the Border
Cally took the lead in ET
Celtic tied it up
Cally's captain just scored with three minutes to go
Callie now lead Celtic 3-2 in that classic semi. Desmond rudely escorted out of the stadium.
The second match of the day in the Prem is on CNBC because of F1
Welcome back, UWS.
Thanks, UWS
David Raven scored that goal for Nessie's team.
Fox better get to the teams coming out without the studio boys rabbiting on
Super Cally Go Ballistic Celtic Are Atrocious!!
It is over
Inverness Caledonian Thistle have beaten Celtic
So much for the Treble
Surely teams are in the tunnel.... Fox on commercial
They're doing the World Cup!!
Fat Sam makes a double switcheroo. The ineffective Carlton Cole is replaced by old man, Kevin Nolan. and Matty Jarvis is on for Alex Song. That's an attacking move and why not? The Hammers have nothing to lose . They need to gamble.
WOW!!! That is an amazing final score. Callie play Falkirk in the Scottish Cup Final. Do those two teams have enough fans to fill the stadium for the final?
Your votes
Will it be a replay of the 1971 and 2001 Cup Finals
or will it just be... let's make the Cup Final.... using the Alphabet. Arsenal Aston Villa
The Coyote is booked for afoul on Silva.
I'm expecting a repeat of the 1950, 1971, and 2001 finals.
Silva is out for the count. I didn't think it was a really malicious challenge.
Teams shown in the tunnel
Go to the stadium guys.. not you on the West Coast!!
Silva down for an age after that elbow to the head.
The teams are heading out of the tunnel at wembuhlay. Up the road in Manchester, Silva is still down and looks to be stretchered off and be replaced by Nasri, who seems to have fallen out of favor with Pelligrini
I'm getting ready to switch over to the Cup tie in a moment with some yummy pancakes as an accompaniment.
Old man , Shay Given, remains the cup keeper . He turns 39 tomorrow.
Good thing about yesterday's match on Fox was that Gus Johnson wasn't commentating
Had some english guys
West Coast still yappin
GO TO THE STADIUM!!
I am watching the cup semi on Gooner's link and the Prem match on the telly.
Arsenal's win yesterday means they will now have gone ahead of United in Cup Finals and if they win go ahead of United with wins too
COME ON VILLA
They're off from wembley
We're off at Wembley
David Silva being stretchered off
What happened to him
I saw him down a while ago... is it the same thing?
8 minute stoppage
A standing ovation as Silva is stretchered off. I'm really concerned. I hope everything is OK.
Silva was fouled by the Coyote. It didn't seem a horrible foul, but the result indicates otherwise.
A poor foul by Can on young Grealish. He grabs his shirt and pulls him down. He should have been booked to match the color of his shirt.
Keep me up to date with the Prem.. I have the Cup on the TV
Gerrard has lasted over 38 seconds
That was classic on Men in Blazers with the Gerrard sending off
50% of possession for Gerrard. Stopping it at 19 seconds and saying... this is half time for Gerrard
Fans sound great at Wemberlee
I'm not watching the idiots in the FOX studio . They're not on the link. Glad to see the back of the annoying Gus Johnson
Villa trying to make the Final for the first time since they made the last Cup Final at the old Wembley where they lost to Chelsea with a David 'Vampire' James dropped a cross
Last time the won it was when they beat the Busby Babes going for the double in 1957... they cheated
Classic by the Men in Blazers. Not much happening in the Prem match other than Citeh seem to be letting up.
Well over by Joe Allen
I don't rate him at all
BTW Bob, Kathy just gave me some pancakes with strawberries and cream
Yummy
I'm eating well right now.. trying to lose weight for Hawaii
I remember reading about that. I would think that even for back then it was cheating. I saw David James make a calamity of that cross. A boring match that I watched. I think the Cup Finals were on PPV back then.
Where are you going for your honeymoon ?
I'm eating better and have lost weight. Are you going hiking in Hawaii?
Villa cheated in '57 when they broke United's keeper's face after 6 minutes
He couldn't do much after that!!
Well done by Stevie G. He's really put in a marathon shift today. If Pool win today then the Cup Final should be his last match for Liverpool.
Never going hiking!!!
On his birthday
I remember reading about that.
Gooner , Mr. D , and Simon would be hoping that Stevie G Has a terrible 35th birthday if Pool prevail today
Mignolet tips over a powerful effort from Insomnia.
A wasted corner as Insominia was offside as he received a return pass. Joe Allen failed to close down insomnia for that shot.
A nice solo run by Valencia and he shoots wide. Hart seemed to have it covered.
Just found video of the whole match of the 57 Final
The guy just ran right into him. The commentator says it was a fair shoulder barge
He took five more step after Wood had the ball before they collided
Benteke almost put thru there
Great close range block by Hart off a terrible back pass then Valencia has a shot blocked.
Yaya shoots high and wide off a pass from navas on the break
Nine minutes of stoppage time at the Etihad. A minute has been played.
Fat Sam is yelling and cursing at the fourth official. I'm not sure why, but he's begging for a trip to the stands.
Those do sound delicious, UWS, but I've got Liverpudlian pancakes with a side of Villa.
Go on, you Reds! (er, Yellows!)
Brendan is looking dapper in his Wembley suit today.
I know keepers weren't protected like they are now. I wonder what the mentality was back then. People may have considered that a fair challenge at that time.
Yaya finds Jerko on the break and he shoots straight at Adrian.
It sounds a tad under cooked, Bob. I'm sure UWS would like a taste of vanilla today.
This win will put City a point behind United and 7 ahead of Liverpool having played one more game
United would prefer to finish third and not have a qualifying match in the CL
The run in for the Manc clubs
United - Eveton A
Citeh- Villa H
United West Brom H
CIteh- Spurs A
United - Palace A
Citeh- QPR H
United- Arsenal H
Citeh-Swansea A
United- Hull A
Citeh- Southampton H
Thoughts?
I guess that challenge on Wood in the '57 Cup Final would be a clip on a B movie.
Get the cross over Cleverley... modern day players can't cross the damn ball!
The corner from Insomnia is headed out while Ten Downing Street is booked for a foul on a Citeh break,
I watched some the match just a few minutes ago
The crowd booed the man that ran into Wood and the commentators said it was a putty... wasn't dirty
It was ridiculous!
I guess it might have saved Wood's life
He wasn't the main keeper after this season and then wasn't on the plane in 58
A recipe for disaster as Nathan Baker walks off injured . Okore, not a great Dane, will replace hi.
It's over at the Etihad as Citeh defeat the Hammers 2-0. Okore on for Baker.
Just read that he was on the plane but was one of the survivors
It sounds like it did save his life. His replacement , Harry Gregg survived the plane crash or did a different keeper make the trip?
Fox want Liverpool to win
They have their clock in yellow numbers.. bloody favoritism!
I think United have the tougher run in. They play at Goodison next weekend and still have to play the Gunners. Citeh's toughest match will be at SFL. They are at Sty. Mary's the final day of the season, but the Saints may not have anything to play for at that point. it depends upon whether or not Citeh continue to have away day blues.
GOAL
Coutinho nets the ball
SHould have been cleared!
GOAL !!! COUTINHO GIVES LIVERPOOL THE LEAD. BOB IS DELIGHTED.
Wahay!!!!!!!!
Coutinho puts my boys into the lead - Guzan was left flayling!
1-0 Reds!
Home to Sotton not at St Marys
I'm doing a little PPP Shield dance here in the Cottage. Should I start measuring the wall space in my home office.
Markovic nicked the ball off of Okore, who should have cleared it. Markovic passed to Sterling , who did well to find Coutinho , who slotted it past Shay Given.
The Citeh have the easier run in. The toughest one will be at SFL.
That was going well wide but deflected in
Nearly an own goal there, I'm not sure Coutinho's scoop was going in before it was deflected past Shay Given.
Come on Villa
Come on Villa
Come on Villa
My brother will be delighted too.
Cleverley could have had a shot there as the ball came down but never even thought of it.. went backwards.. that was because of his pre-season work with LVG
I think UWS is subliminally going for Villa due to his love of vanilla ice cream and is subconciously thinking that they are Aston Vanilla.
Bloody hell - who asked Benteke to show up with goals today?!
YES!!
United's future striker scores again!
GOAL 1-1 . GREAT FINISH BY BENETEKE . UWS IS DELIGHTED. BOB IS FURIOUS.
nice cool finish
Chim chiminy, chim chiminy, chim chim cheroo - we hate those bastards in claret and blue!!!
La La La.....
He's been doing it for weeks
Hope he does it at the Etihad next week too
I can't believe that you're interested in Benteke - he's a complete streaky player. I can imagine the two of you tearing your hair out next season while he blazes one chance after another wide of the mark.
Come on, Liverpool! I want the LOB Shield back!
Ithink that even though there was an assist and great work from the LUFC academy , that will not be enough to please Bob. Delph collected a throw from Kieran Richardson. , passed to Grealish then recieved the ball down the left from Grealish. Delph put in a great finish and iot was well finished by Beneteke.
Nice one Bob
I remember well singing that... before we almost got killed in the stands
Bloody Justin Fashinu
Beneteke can't done any worse than RVP or Di Maria have this season. I'm sure UWS will agree.
Benteke holds it up well
Ball goes to Clev who could have put thru a thru ball but he goes backwards... again
It's end to end stuff here
Coutinho has a shot deflected for a corner.
I have to admit that this is a cracking match, even though I'd prefer an 8-0 blowout by Liverpool.
Fash had to get himself sent off in that match, didn't he? The most frightened I ever was at the football.
Classic lyrics from Bob. I wonder if United fans sang those in the '57 final.
Benteke can pack it in with his "renaissance."
Yes he did
Thank god Kevin Bond netted the last minute penalty in front of us for a draw!
That was the Want a Plain Yorkie match
We were asking Jimmy Rimmer
Didn't like the trip to the Wembley match where we shared the bus with some drunken hobos from Bury
Remember that Bob? Were you on that trip David
It was a later match cuz I went without my dad. Before I was in HS, my dad used to buy two seats and I would go on the bus
Two minutes of stoppage time.
I do remember that - Jimmy was getting all sorts of abuse, including having sweets and 50 pence pieces chucked at him.
Remember - "Oi, Jimmy - want a sweetie?"
And he just calmly collected up all the debris and waved at the crowd. Which just made them angrier.
Matthew Penistone: The mantra of 'win it for Stevie' appears quite literal. Absolute passenger. Will probably score a pen and still be called a hero!
The only times I went to Wembley was with the Host Nation Club. I don't remember any drunken hobos other than at the matches.
