The teams are out on the pitch .
They're off from the Liberty
COME ON YOU SWANS
Swansea need a win to stay in the hunt for an EL spot.A Citeh win all but locks up second place.
Gomis has a shot comfortably saved by Hart off a great pass by Shelvey after Di Michelis coughed up possession.
Morning, MUR - thanks for getting us going this morning. I had the clock set for 8am and then promptly went back to sleep for half an hour. Poor form.
OH!!!! Gomis shoots over from six yards out. Neil Taylor did well to find Jeff Montero down the left , who did well yo pick out Gomis. Citeh would have felt aggrieved had the goal gone in as the replay showed Montero to be offside.
Here are the teams:
Swansea: Fabianski; Richards, Fernandez, Williams, Taylor; Cork, Shelvey; Dyer, Sigurdsson, Montero; Gomis. Subs: Britton, Emnes, Grimes, Tremmel, Bartley, Barrow, Tiendalli.
Man City: Hart; Zabaleta, Demichelis, Mangala, Kolarov; Toure, Fernandinho; Milner, Lampard, Silva; Aguero. Subs: Kompany, Dzeko, Caballero, Bony, Jesus Navas, Clichy, Jovetic.
Referee: Mark Clattenburg (Tyne & Wear)
Kolorov heads out a cross for a Swans corner
Gomis heads wide form the corner
The Swans are really pushing Citeh. They're definitely the hungrier today. Of the sides pushing for EL slots, they and the Saints will be the ones who will relish those Thursday European nights. Spurs and Liverpool would probably rather not have them.
Good morning mate. It's great to have you on board. No Problem. Surely , not any worse than missing the fastest hat-trick in Prem history because you were on the bog.
That sounds about right. The Saints played as if they really want a spot as are Swansea. Garry Monk publicly stated that he wants the Swans to finish in an EL spot.
Silva is upended by Dyer producing a decent free kick chance now for Citeh. Kolarov is over it.
Naughty by Dyer on Silva . Definitely a striker's challenge.
Not a bad effort from the Russian but always bending wide and over.
The free kick from Kolorov is wide as it bent just a little too much.
Poor defending by Mangala and Hart does well to turn around a shot from Dyer, The corner from Siggy is headed away by Yaya and Citeh counter as Aguero has a goal diasllowed for offside.
Great save from Hart followed quickly by a Kun Aguero goal ruled offside - I thought he was level.
Sorry mate, but I think Kolorov is a Serb.
I cannot believe that Lampard hasn't packed off to NYC yet - Citeh's season is definitely over at this point. They can't win the title and yet they're into the Champions League. What's he waiting for?
Is he now? Thanks for the correction.
Milner has a cross cut out for a corner by Ashley Williams
I wonder if Lampard's contract states that he can't leave till the end of the season. It must be a legal loophole. Bloody lawyers!
GOAL! Flappy lets a Yaya drive go straight through him into the goal.
1-0 Citeh!
GOAL !!! YAYA GIVES CITEH THE LEAD WITH A DEFLECTED SHOT THAT FOOLED FLAPPY AT THE NEAR POST.
Garry Monk , the highest placed English manager, will not be pleased. A poor goal to concede. It deflected off of Ashley Williams, but Flappy should have done better at the near post.
I just read that LVG may make two new signings. It may be a return to OT for Paul Pogba and he's also interested in Thomas Mueller. Those are two exciting signings, but will it make a difference if United play such horizontal footie?
That's harsh on Swansea - they don't really deserve to be behind but their keep is to blame.
A great Citeh counter and Neil Taylor clears for a corner off a great pass from Kolorov.
Oh - Citeh rampant now slicing through the Swansea defense, through Kolarov and Lamps nearly slid through for another useless goal to add to his Citeh total.
Mangala heads wide from the corner by Kolorov.
And Mangala misses with a free header from the resulting corner.
The Liberty Stadium has fallen a bit flat. That goal from Toure has rather caught Swansea cold. They can’t have seen it coming. Which is partly why it happened.
I agree. Flkappy has had a good season, but he should have done better at his near post, deflection or not.
I agree. If Citeh win that makes United vs the Gunners all the more important.I'm pleased we qualified for the CL, but don't want a tricky qualifier in August.
Every time a Swansea attack breaks down, Citeh look like they may score on the break.
A timely block by Neil Taylor from a shot by Yaya for a corner.
End to end stuff now. Gomes nipped for a diving header but was offside.
Jack Cork nearly made a mess of the corner by Milner as Swansea break. Gomis heads straight to Hart as he's flagged offside.
Do you think Mueller and Pogba will be good signings for United? I do, but LVG will need to change his tactics in order for it to help.
Morning Boys
I have been around but not a the computer
Swansea have been quite good but Citeh have their noses in the lead
In the United corner, we needed to have Citeh lose today and against Southampton at home to still finish second
Now, we need to beat the Arse today by four goals, have the Gunners draw at home to Sunderland and then third is in United's own hands
I am waking up now... that was a dream!
dyer wins a corner off of Kolorov.
Two nil... bugger
Swansea were the better team
GOAL !!! MILNER PUTS CIITEH TWO UP ON THE COUNTER.
GOAL! Milner finishes Swansea off with a silky finish after a wonderful break.
0-2 Citeh!
That goal came a Swansea corner... a corner that fails to beat the first man which opens up the break
Morning, UWS. You're right, Swansea have arguably been the better side in this half but Citeh has been more lethal in their finishing.
A classic counter by Citeh off a Swansea corner as a clearance from Lampard found Aguero down the left. His pass found Milner, who finished past Flappy.
Good morning UWS. I agree too, but Citeh have been more clinincal in their finishing
Sorry to say , but United have lost any chance of finishing second. They need to beat the Gunners today and hope for help from the Black Cats on Wednesday. I will be pleased with third, so they don't have to play a qualifier in August
Goal at Wembley.. inside two minutes Grimsby take the lead against Bristol Rovers in the Conference Promotion final
Rovers are the ones that just missed out on automatic promotion
That's the one element of the game that continues to confuse me - why professionals using balls that they must be familiar with in training can't beat the first man with their corner kicks.
I'd like to see Bristol Rover back up in the league - that town deserves more footballing success.
I would like Rovers to win and win promotion back to the Football League.
It is still a long shot for third after those three straight defeats
Again, a four goal swing today and dropped points against relegation fighting Sunderland on Wednesday.
A draw would be enough for Sunderland
So... A United win by four today and draw on Wed
Or... A United win today and a Sunderland win on Wed
Or. .. A United win today and Sunday and an Arsenal loss on either Wed or Sun
I agree. If we can beat the first man then why can't these pros. The Swans were made to pay.
Into the one minutes of stoppage time now.
I want Rovers too because they finished second
Grimsby did finish third but 5 points behind Rovers
The conference ended up with the top two not promoted meeting in the final like all the other divisions
Wonder if that has ever happened before
That is a tough ask. Expecting the Gunners to drop points at home to the Black Cats or Baggies is a long shoot despite Fred's insistence that the Black Cats will win on wednesday
GOAL... game on
2-1
GOAL! Ziggy strikes back to set up a much better second half. Cracking strike into the corner.
So... we need Citeh to lose two
GOAL !!! SIGGY SCORES WITH A CRACKING FINISH. GAME ON!
That would be nice , but not with defending like that from the Swans.
It's the end of a cracking first half as Citeh lead 1-2.
Montero and Neil Taylor combined for that goal from Siggy and were helped by a pass that deflected off of Milner.A fantastic finish from Siggy.
What do you think the result of a poll on the BBC was
Which of the managers involved in today's games had had the best season
Gary Monk
Manuel Pellegriini
Louis van Gaal
Arsene Wenger
What were the percentages?
I would pick Garry Monk, the highest placed English manager. I'm not sure about the percentages on the poll.
A Classic tirerack.com commercial, talking about Bob's first date and the fact that he's not thinking about tires.
The second half is underway from the Liberty
give me order 1-4
Bristol Rovers have equalized at Wembley
half hour in
UWS, I have an answer to your question . The former Hereford United finished second in 2004 and 2005 and were not promoted in either season. In 2004 , they finished a point behind Chester City with 91 points, 103 goals and a + 59 gd. They went out to Aldershot in the first round of the playoffs on penalties despite having 21 more points than Aldershot. The following season they finished second and went out to Stevenage in the first round of the playoffs. They had only two more points than Stevenage in the regular season . In 2006, the third time was the charm as they finished second , but were finally promoted via the playoffs
WAY HAY!!! I want Rovers up.
Here's my best guess:
1) Garry Monk
2) Arsene Wenger
3) LVG
4) Pelligrini
PHEW!!! lAMPARD LET sWANSDEA OFF THE HOOK WIOTH A POOR FINSH ON A CLASSIC BREAK WHERE HE LEAD THE BREAK AND PLAYED A ONE-TWO with Aguero
Hart turns around a shot from Shelvey
Montero wins a corner off of Zaba
Montero wins another corner off of Zaba. The corner from Siggy is out for another
Navas is on for Lampard , presumably, to add more width
Silva wins a corner
I'm back from a bite to eat for brekkies. I made Kate a scrambled egg sandwich.
My guess would be:
1) Arsene Wenger
2. Gary Monk
3. Louis Van Gaal
4. Manuel Pellegrini
Navas shoots straight at Flappy off the corner from Kolorov then Zaba is booked for a foul on the break
Welcome back, mate. That's close to my order except that we have Monk and wenger switched.
Interesting facts but I don't think that's what I asked
I said that the playoff final in each division is between the top two positions not promoted
Championship
3rd Norwich vs 4th Boro
League 1
3rd Preston vs 4th Swidon
League 2
4th Wycombe vs 5th Southend
Conference
2nd Bristol Rovers vs 3rd Grimsby
no sixth place team getting promoted
Thanks for the clarification. I would say probably not, but I will check.
DESMOND AT THE LIBERTY!!!!
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!
SWANSEA HAVE COME FROM TWO DOWN TO MAKE IT DESMOND. GREAT FINISH BY GOMIS.
GOAL! Gomis equalizes and then crawls toward the camera. Desmond!
Poll results
Gary Monk 59.6%
Arsene Wenger 26.8%
Louis van Gall 11.1%
Manuel Pellegrini 2.5%
I don't know how either Manc manager got ANY votes
Poor defending by Di Michelis and Mangala as they were caught out by a long ball from Fernandez and Gomis took adavanatage with a great finish. That was seconds after Flappy made a near post save from Silva
Wonder what team will LVG pick with his beloved Rooney not available!
Rooney and Shaw are out for the last two games of the season
Welbeck is out of the Arse too
Flappy did well to block from Silva after a nice one two with Milner.
Another goal by Swansea and then United could finish second!!
A loss at home to SIX GOAL Southampton is not completely out of the question
I think I picked the correct order, UWS. I agree with you about the two Manc managers not deserving any votes.
Of course, United winning both games means we will relegate a United stalwart Bruce
I agree. The pond frog wants EL footie and I would not want to face the Saints in a must win match
I think the Arse should rest all of their players... they have a massive Cup Final in less than a fortnight!
City would only need a draw next week of they lose this one
I love Brucie, but I want a United win. I think Brucie will be relegated and no sympathy as it was their responsibility to do better in their previous games, especially the home match vs Burnley
wishful think. I would love Arsene to rest his players, but I think he wants to avoid a qualifier in August
Barrow, the Gambian born Swede , is on for Dyer. Like for like.
It's 1-1 at the half in the Conference playoff final./
BUGGER!!!! YAYA BEATS FLAPPY AT THE NEAR POST. THAT'S TWO BLOODY TIMES HE'S BEEN BEATEN AT THE NEAR POST.
BUGGER
3-2
another poor display by Flappy
He must really be peeved with the Arse
Having a blinder midweek and then gifting Citeh with two
Desmond is escorted out of the Liberty thanks to Flappy.
I'm sure he is, but he never did well enough to be their regular starter
I'm sure he is, but he never did well enough to be their regular starter
Horrible by Fernandinho on Barrow. Both players are down. Barrow may have to be subbed just minutes after coming on.
Wait for it.... CHRIS SMALLING IS MANCHESTER UNITED CAPTAIN!!!!
RUDDY NORAH
Falcao starts up front... RVP on the bench
Leon Britton is on for Shelvey. Why make a defensive change when you are a goal down. I never get that Is this more out of loyalty because he's about to retire?
Arsenal are unchanged
Really poor from Flappy. Does he think it's Yaya Toure's birthday?
What is LVG thinking? How does he deserve to be United captain? Falcao playing one of his last matches for United/
Is this the last Old Trafford performance for De Gea? Falcao? DiMaria? RVP?
Fernandinho is off and Kompany on for him.
A belated gift from Flappy. He sure dropped it off in a timely manner for Citeh.
I read that Paul Pogba may make a return to OT and be joined by Mueller . Will Chicha return from his loan at Real? Surely , he would be a starter.
I would say yes about those four players
Great save by Hart
Hart superbly turns around a header from Fernandez headed for the upper 90.
Wonderful save by Joe Hart!
If Swansea lose then they cannot qualify for the EL , but 8th place would be a great finish for them
Marvin Emnes is on for Siggy
I know United have always been money bags but they used to buy one major player or maybe two but never just buy anyone with two any type of reputation!!
I didn't like us buying them last year and again this year
Cech? Bale? Clyne? Muller? Pogba?
Not liking it
Oh - Hart saves again, this time from Gomis!
another great save by Hart... a little easier this time
Another great save by Hart , off a header from Gomis. Nice long pass from Jack Cork.
Boni receives a standing ovation from the home fans on his return to the Liberty.
The teams at Old Trafford
United
De Gea
Valencia
Smalling
Jones
Rojo
Blind
Mata
Herrera
Fellaini
Young
Falcao
Subs
Di Maria
Januzaj
van Persie
Valdes
McNair
Blacket
Willson
KVG says he has a replacement for De Gea. I have no idea whom that would be
Arsenal... unchanged for the sixth straight game
Ospina
Bellerin
Mertesacker
Koscielny
Monreal
Coquelin
Cazorla
Ramsey
Ozil
Sanchez
Giroud
Subs
Szczesny
Gibbs
Gabriel
Rosicky
Wilshere
Walcott
Flamini
Cech
This one feels weird, Manchester United v. Arsenal should always be a big match but this feels like an afterthought.
Cech would be a great replacement . I'm okay with that signing.
late free kick chance for the Swans
Kolorov fouls Barrow just outside the box.
Well, you don't want Flappy on the basis of this performance today.
Into the wall by emnes.
I agree with you Bob... it should be big!
Of course, there is a big difference between 3rd and 4th
A qualifying round will be a real pain and could be very tricky
Five minutes of stoppage time.
Free kick straight into a jumping wall
I agree with UWS. I don't want a qualifier in August. It still is a big match
GOAL! Boni finishes Swansea off (again!) with a left-footed striker in off the post.
DAMN!!!! MATCH OVER AS BONI SCORE ON HIS RETURN TOT THE LIBERY. 2-4 CITEH AND THAT IS THAT
Bony scores against his old mates... no celebrating
Champions League qualification is guaranteed at the Etihad for next year
Boni slotted it in off the post past a confused looking Flappy. Great work by Milner and Silva as Citeh are headed for a Silva medal.
I wonder why Citeh are so rubbish in the Champions League.
UWS, I'm not sure if this is the first time that the top two have made it to the playoff final in each division. I can research later today and let everyone know.
United need to win big today
I'll take 8-2!!!
Falcao with hat-trick
DiMaria coming on and scoring a brace
Mata, Young and Fellaini with one each
Nice solo run by Aguero, but he ran out of room.
all over
Now lets get over to Old Trafford
Still - sometimes a team that's rebuilding can build some momentum by playing a couple of real pre-season matches against inferior opposition. It's not the worst thing.
It's over and Citeh win an entertaining match 2-4 and have all but clinched second place.
Kate's stepbrother Scott just got back from a honeymoon trip to England. He's a massive (if new) United fan and they had tickets to three United matches. United lost all three!
Arlo and Lee are doing their best to pump up the energy ahead of this match. I hope both teams will just go all out for the win.
Teams in the tunnel
COME ON MAN U
COME ON MAN U
COME ON MAN U
Teams in the tunnel with the Stone Roses jamming in the background. Chris Smalling with the armband for the first time.
Still 1-1 at Wembley at the 90th minute
Here comes the teams at the one time Theater of Dreams
Listening to Alan Green at the moment on Five Live
Not for long... it will cut out at kick off
Sanchez has scored 16 league goals in his debut season... just behind the record of TH14 with 17
Just like against the other big uns at OT as of late
Crushing Spurs and Citeh
We're off
BTW, Arsenal can still finished second with three wins
Citeh are guaranteed at least third
Apparently, De Gea has been offered more at United but it is the lure of Real for a Spaniard
Extra time at Wembley
United have won all seven games that Smalling and Jones have started at center backs...surely not
Three minutes in . How have United started?
The build up on Arsenal could be important.
LOL!!! Arlo White says that the partnership between Smalling and Jones can grow. How can it get any worse?
Done nothing
Are you not watching?
Jones out of position?
HE DOESN'T HAVE ONE!
I have BBC Radio Bristol with commentary of the match at Wemberlee
I just got back from taking Elizabeth to Wal-Mart.She's home temporarily until Thursday. I missed the firsdt two and a half minutes
I'm watching. Tight between the two sides so far. Neither side is gong to run over the other today.
Young is having visions of his two corkers in the 8-2 match
I didn't see that match live
We had lost power with a close hurricane that day
Lee Dixon is talking about firm pitches now. Dirty bugger!
I see that ET just started in the playoff final.
I hope Elizabeth and her mom are doing well.
United playing too slow AGAIN
I don't like the way they play... it is boring!!!
The 8-2 match was the day after Melanie's Bat Mitzvah and one f the hottest days in Harlingen's history. Definitely was a day to stay inside and watch the footie.
What the hell was that from Rojo!!!
I agree. What good will it do to sign the like of Pogba and Mueller if LVG doesn't change the tactics.
Oh - Young with a teasing cross - cleared out.
And now Koz has to block a shot by Falcao. Good pressure from United.
Falcao with a chance...weak effort!!
He doesn't seem to know how to kick the ball any more
Great tackle by Kos on Falcao . Corner United
United need to win by four
Smalling with an effort blocked
Well - good players have a way of forcing coaches to play the game differently.
Smalling has a shot come off of Bellerin for another corner.
Think about the backline you lot would have now if you'd hung on to Pique and Pogba. Why did Fergie let them go?
Falcao falls over or slips every time near the ball
I also wonder if Chicha will return to United. He will do better than Falcao and has shown he can score in the Prem.
All the talk about the players coming to OT, where are the center backs!!!!
I heard a rumor that Hernandez might go to Orlando
Dixon's right - Ashley Young needs to cut back onto his right peg to cross every time. Makes it easy for the full-back.
The rumor is that SAF thought Pique lacked the strength to handle the physicality of the Prem and was behind Ro and Vidic in the pecking order. Pogba never could break into the starting lineup. Those errors of judgement are on Fergie, not Moyes.
If United don't win by four then, they would need to have Arsenal have loss not just draw in one of their last two games
Oh - Sanchez was away there but showed too much of the ball to Yashley.
