Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Footie Trivia of the Week!

Here's a cracking footie trivia morsel to get the season started:

"Who are the seven players who have scored hat-tricks on the opening weekend of the Premier League?" (Bonus points if you can remember the years that these happened!)

Best of luck, chaps!

I will venture some guesses . Here goes

Robbie Fowler, Wee Mickey, Andy Cole, Alan Shearer, TH 14, Fabrizio Ravinelli. Are any of those correct?

I think Ravinelli scored for Middlesbrough vs Liverpool

I knew The White Feather did for Boro
I'll have to think of the others

None are coming to mind at all

I think I know who scored the first ever hat-trick in the Premier League. Do you?
Who was it?
Who did he play for?
Who did he score against?

Ravanelli is correct, MUR. Well done. He scored that hat-trick during the first weekend of the 1996/1997 season against Liverpool.

The others, sadly are not correct. Any other ideas?

I'd have to go Shearer. As memory serves, Blackburn won the first Premiership title with their SAS attacking line.

The answer is.... a certain player dear to our hearts..... it was... a certain... ERIC CANTONA!!!!

What ruins it is that he scored it for the wrong UNITED!!

He scored the first Premier League hat-trick(actually Premiership back then) on August 25, 1992 in Leeds 5-0 win against Spurs

Of course, he scored against for Spurs for the right United in a 4-1 win later in the season. I think that was the match that turned United into would be champs in January 93

Wow - I'm surprised that I did't know that one. Any other guesses on mine? You've still got six of them to get.
