A Well Rested Premiership Saturday!
Morning, lads! Thanks to the Brits changing their clocks back a week earlier than we have, we've all just had an extra hour of sleep. So, no stumbling around the kitchen trying to remember where we've put the coffee, eh? We start later than usual with a real eye-opener - Chelski v. Liverpool at the Bridge. Grab that cuppa and join me here at 8:45am EST, chaps.
252 Comments:
Teams gathering in the tunnel now at the Bridge:
Chelsea: Begovic, Zouma, Cahill, Terry, Azpilicueta, Mikel, Ramires, Willian, Oscar, Hazard, Diego Costa.
Subs: Amelia, Baba, Matic, Fabregas, Kenedy, Falcao, Remy.
Liverpool: Mignolet, Clyne, Skrtel, Sakho, Moreno, Lucas, Can, Milner, Lallana, Coutinho, Firmino.
Subs: Bogdan, Lovren, Benteke, Allen, Ibe, Teixeira, Randall.
And we're away at the Bridge. Let's hope for loads of goals and action.
Who would have thought that a clash between 9th and 15th would be the biggest match of the weekend?
James Milner, playing his 400th Premiership match, feed Firmino, the new Pool striker, who drags his shot wide.
GOAL! Well, that didn't take long, Ramires meets a great cross from Azpi to fire Chelski into the lead early doors.
1-0 Chelski!
And Jose Mourinho gets the operatic treatment from the Stamford Bridge faithful after that great start.
Looks positively balmy today on this Halloween in London.
Oh - Obi Wan should have scored the second there. Willian had wafted in a great cross that JT knocked back across the six yard line. What a miss!
Chelsea continue to dominate, as Lucas is given a ticking-off from Mark Clattenburg for a shove on Diego Costa, his second foul in quick succession. The yellow card stays in the referee’s pocket for the time being.
Liverpool appear to have lined up without a frontman, with Roberto Firmino operating in a false nine role. They’re not getting much change out of Chelsea ta the moment, relying on scraps and enjoying very little possession.
Liverpool look completely toothless without Benteke or Sturrridge leading the line.
A bit better from Pool, there, with Lallana with a snapshot with his left peg. Easily smothered by Begovic.
Willian goes down in the centre-circle clutching his shin after being upended by Emre Can. He’ll live.
This one has settled quite a bit, Chelski having dropped off the pace a bit. Diego Costa has been absolute rubbish this season. He's walking through this one.
Philippe Coutinho gets booked for clattering his compatriot Willian.
Liverpool continue to dominate - they’ve had a whopping 80% of the possession in the past five minutes. Adam Lallana goes close to stabbing home an equaliser from about eight yards out after a cross from the right was deflected into his path.
Willian has become the target, now chopped by Can. Yellow card.
The Liverpool bench are crying foul that JT wasn't called for that hand ball in the area. Referee Clattenberg decided it was unintentional.
Hey Bob
I've been watching the match upstairs and have just got to the computer
Not sure who I want to win this one... I guess a Pool win to put the Blues lower
I'm not looking forward to my lot playing today... they have disappointed me almost every game this season
I know, your lot are worse
Hey, mate - great to have you on board. Nice to have a lie-in, eh? MUR is working with his students today, so he'll not be around.
Happy Halloween!
I'm a neutral with this one - don't really like either team very much and I haven't got much stake in either in the PPP.
Got my SS link going strong
Will have to go on my walk at some point
Not sure what time I can fit both my walk and Shadow's
I did see that email from MUR
Diego Costa and Skrtel are having a few afters after that clash that left Costa rubbing his jaw.
Stoppage time of a first half that started with a bang but rather petered out at the end. What you want to bet that Jose tries to hold on for a George Graham style 1-0 win?
Shadow doesn't come on your 5 miler?
GOAL! Coutinho scores on the stroke of half-time!
That put a smile on Klopp's face!
I was in the loo for the goal of course
Nice finish
I am off for walkies with Shadow now
I'll be back
Just finished my brekkies - we're into the second half now. Off you go to the loo again - we need another goal!
I haven't seen anything from Firmino yet.
On the touchline, Jurgen Klopp finds himself in a raging argument with a member of Chelsea’s back-room staff who’d told him to calm down as he raged at someone or other from his technical area.
Hazard is subbed off around the hour mark - he's had a rotten season so far after being so great last season.
So we had about five minutes of excitement and then 60 minutes of dross. Thanks, Jose!
Klopp has thrown Benteke on now. Why wasn't he on from the start!
Lucas Leiva is in trouble now. Jose is begging for a second yellow, leaping up and down on the touchline. He gets a bollocking rather than a red.
Oh - great effort from Oscar from near the halfway line, well saved by Mignolet.
I am back from walkies
Still anyone's game
Don't like the commentators wanting red cards!!
Costa should have gotten one for his kick in the chest... the commentators didn't seem to mind that!
Wolves double their lead at St. Andrews
No red card... another excuse to use from Jose
GGAL... THE BRAZILIAN HAS A BRACE
GOAL! Coutinho has done it!!!!!
1-2 Liverpool
What a strike from the little Brazilian! He's really put this match into the place it needed to be. Now Chelski will have to chase it.
I guess this would be a bad result for United... Pool are more of a threat for fourth
Almost another one!!!
A Norwich win today at the Eithad would put Chelsea down to 16th... wishful thinking.... surely Jose can't be fired... they didn't drop in the table!
Did you hear about that Italian owner has agreed to sell his stakes in Leeds to a supporters group?
I am delighted at that one. It will likely drop them down to 16th and closer to the Dropzone.
I hadn't heard that - do you mean Cellino?
Delighted at what?
I do mean Cellino
Did you also hear Scholes comments about United and LVG and LVG's reply
Scholsey is dead right and LVG is in cookoo land
Jordan Ibe has gone on for Firmino, who was rubbish today.
Not too confident of my lot at Selhurst today
I don't want to comment anything negative... I am annoyed with myself but it is so upsetting to me how they play
GOAL! Bent eke scores off the bench! Wow!
1-3!
BENTEKE... THREE ONE
KLOP... start my man and I'll win the Golden Boot
Chelski fans starting to leave - is that it for Mourinho?
I'll say it again - why wasn't Benteke on from the off?
I'm loving it with Chelsea... just wish it wasn't Pool even though I like the Klopper...wish he went to OT
Will Chelsea sack Jose?
Who is better?
I want him to bugger off just cuz I don't like him
Have him bugger back to mainland Europe
How many goals does Benteke have now?
I'd love to see that.
Pedro... happy you went to the Bridge? What a numpty
I have SS going strong, NBC going strong and Im going to turn on 5Live because they will be around the grounds for the first half because of them covering the WC Final at Noon
I think Ben only has 3 because of his injuries
I think he'll have a couple games with multiple goals to have him go up the scoring table
HE NEEDS TO START STARTING
The United side to start at Selhurst Park today:
Manchester United: De Gea, Darmian, Smalling, Blind, Rojo, Schneiderlin, Schweinsteiger, Mata, Ander Herrera, Martial, Rooney.
Your thoughts, mate?
I did see that Paul Scholes comment and nearly posted it for comment on the LOB. I agree with him - it doesn't look like United are having fun playing this season.
Merse is talking the truth.. should Carroll go to the Euros... yes he should... we aren't going to win the Euros with a passing game... play the English way!!
Agree with him 100%
Frankie Lamps looking a bit despondent in the stands.
Same team for United that will pass the ball around the park and go no where... won't get a shot on goal for an hour... maybe sneak a win or draw... BORING
I hate myself!!
Should I not comment at all?
He's sitting next to another Frank Lampard
Should Roon go to the Euros, that's the quest!on!
I worry for Bournemouth.. I want them to get some wins and go up the table
Nah - keep the comments coming. Believe me, I feel for you. I'm not having fun watching my United either. They were dreadful on Thursday against Blackburn.
I'm annoyed that United haven't played Chelsea during this stretch... watch them being on a roll when United are across the field from them
It's gonna be hard for them without Callum Wilson around.
Didn't they give away a goal after 17 seconds?
I was sitting at my desk and Fotmob update came up that the match had started and then automatically updated the score!!
All Liverpool noise now, with fans singing "You'll Never Walk"
Yeah - it was inside the first minute - and then another inside ten minutes.
All over and Jose runs down the tunnel
I used to hate it when he'd leave before the final whistle
Is this the last time he leaves as a Blues manager?
And that's it - another crushing defeat for Chelski. Where do they go now? I can't really see where their next win comes.
Chelsea have an away goal against Stoke
Liverpool up to 7th... they'll finish ahead of United
This is their 26th season without a Championship... United won the title in the 26th season... will their run be worse than United's?
Will the Top Five all win today to extend their leads from the rest
City home to Norwich...yes
Arsenal away to Swansea.. probably
West Ham away to Watford... iffy
United away to Palace.... who knows
Leicester away to West Brom... I would think yes
Jose has nothing to say
What an idiot
Why ask about Lucas possible yellows... it wasn't that bad
Dixon is right... ridiculous interview by Jose... be a man and answer questions.... book flight back to Lisbon Jose!!
Celtic beat Aberdeen 3-1 at Parkhead
Manager reaction
Chelsea 1-2 Liverpool
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho repeatedly asked about the performance and his future: “I have nothing to say. I have nothing to say. I have nothing to say. I’m so sorry I have nothing to say. The fans are not stupid. I am not worried [about his future]. “
We are off at Selhurst Park
COME ON MAN U
COME ON MAN U
COME ON MAN U
Mou has come out before the press and said "I have nothing to say" over and over. Extraordinary times at SB.
Didn't hear about United's formation
Is Roon up top or is it Martial.
De Gea had to make an early save
We're off from Selhurst. Happy hunting ground for United in the past. Let's go, Red Devils!
Early chance for Gayle - well smothered by Twilight.
You don't read a thing I post!!!
You actually rooting for United?
Hartlepool already two down but it must have kicked off earlier
I do, too! And yes - I'm all United today.
You're just quicker to the draw than I am sometimes.
To add insult to injury, Diego Costa may well get a retroactive ban for lashing out at Martin Skrtel. He was terrible again today, so perhaps Loic Remy is a better option for them now.
Ht for Hartlepool
Sloppy from United
High flying Plymouth are already ahead of Morecambe and Wise
United second best by a long mark so far
Fulham take a lead at Bristols...not a result... just a bit of gossip
United are too slow on the ball and moving the ball...sigh
Liverpool scored more than two goals at the Bridge since 1989
Derby one up against Rotherham
I'm sick of seeing these souvenir scarves with the names of both sides on them. What's the point of that? Your thoughts?
Palace on a three game losing streak but so much on top... off the woodwork?
United are not at the races... so depressing
Oh - Bollasie rockets one off the bar! Big escape for United. What are they playing at?
And Twilight is in action again, tipping over from Scott Dann.
United are really really really under the cosh
This is Prem v D2 team
This is atrocious by United
I've just noticed that Wolves beat Brum 0-2 in the early one. You may have posted that earlier and if so I apologize. But it's a good win in a local derby for Wolves.
I did
Plymouth up by two
15 minutes in... has the ball been in the Palace box once?
I'm not sure that they have. Is Rooney really playing today?
Ronaldo has added a second for Real Madrid who are romping it against Las Palmas. I heard that he might be looking for a move back to the Premiership. What do you think?
There he is, playing well outside the box, knocking square balls around. WTF?
United getting some possession
WHO CARES
GOING NO WHERE!!
Fulham two up at Ashton Gate
United with free kick chance just outside the D
Roon or Mata... Roon...on target but not that great
Pompey are playing away... at Notts County... they take the lead. They stink at home but are brilliant away from Fratton
Martin Kelly gets a yellow for hauling back a clever Martial.
Where are Pompey in the league now?
Free kick chance....STUPID PLAY BY UNITED... so bad
All level at Meadow Lane in Nottingham
Hart saves brilliantly at the Etihad
Toon hit the beans...on toast... post
As it stands, Leeds are now 18th and only two points from relegation. Fortunately, Hull are beating the Dons and Derby are beating Rotherham.
Goal in the Prem.. at the Hawthorns
West Brom 1 Leicester 0
No goals in the first half hour in the Prem?
Ah - there's the first one, then.
Roon with a chance... HE SUCKS!!!
Rooney was put through there by Martial but he didn't have the pace to beat Hennessy. Shame.
I'm not sure on the replay why he let the ball run rather than gathering it.
Because he stinks!
Why is Martial playing out wide and not thru the middle
LVG is so stubborn
The EPL is becoming boring
ONE goal in SIX games
Have United had a shot on goal?
I don't think so
No goals since October 17th... almost two and half games
fans singing for Paul Scholes... well done
Paul Scholes... he scores goals
Roon a mile and a half offside
Would Chelsea make a manager change with at Champions League match coming up?
Fulham are four nil up at Ashton Gate
Watford take the lead at high flying Hammers... those Irons can only beat the big ones!!
I dunno.
First comment in ten minutes
I dunno
Brilliant and deep
Sorry, mate - I was gathering lunch. Quesadillas, chips and salsa.
No penetration at all by United
Herrera gets the ball into Roon and thinks he is getting the ball back from him by Roon pings the ball back at 100 miles an hour... he wasn't aiming for Herrera... he was aiming for Smalling back at the half way line
Martial is really taking a beating today.
So.. a free kick... our 'striker' takes it... doesn't beat the the first man
I am so fed up!!
Watch United nip a lucky goal
City lose at home
Arsenal lose in Wales
United are top and LVG is a genius.... PLEASE NO
United blow another chance
Half time... bloody useless
Well NBC.. straight to Wales
At least NBC are trying to give us some entertainment, eh? Rotten first half at Selhurst.
Bloody hell - the punters should ask for their money back; only two goals in that first half.
Sounds boring at Swansea too
Only one goal all day so far
Town nil nil at Portman Road against the other half of Wales
That's right
Two not one goal
Both against a top five side
Spurs and Pool are major contenders for Top Four or Championship... no one is that good
United have not scored in three of their last five games
If I were Chelsea, I wouldn't fire him
But as a fan of anyone else, I want him to go
Two mistakes by Carroll causing the Watford goal
Match of the Day isn't on until 6 a.m. tomorrow
That's the one thing I don't like about NBC's coverage
Their highlight shows are at unwatchable times
After midnight and now 6 a.m.
Read an article that their viewer ship have gone up 175%
Second half underway
GO FORWARD!!!!!
Bloody "controlled possession'
LVG will be pleased... I HATE IT
Smalling in the book
Smelling picks up a yellow for a cynical tug back.
Watford two up
Nice name for Mike...I mean Chris
Remember LVG calling him Mike Smalling
All Norwich at City
Goal somewhere else... to the Arse
Kate's mate
That goal puts the Gunners on top
Why didn't I go on my walk during this game..what a waste of time watching this.... not talking to you
Sorry, mate - I know it hasn't been pretty. Now it's Darmian into the book.
Again, have United got the ball into the Palace box yet this half
Almost ten gone
A win here would level us on points with City if they don't win but City will score.... United won't
Brighton have take the lead at the Mad Stad
United win a luck free kick
What do they do
Pass it back to back four
Maybe United could get a draw against Charlton.... they are drawing against Boro
Leicester come back again
1-1
I'm not even watching this damn performance!!!
At least your league position hasn't been affected - and Marital is always good for a late goal, eh?
I don't think I really want United to win this...its not deserved and I don't want LVG to get any credit
Zaha shows why he never made the grade there at OT - tried the acrobatic from an impossible and came off looking like a complete twat.
If the scores stay the same, we go up a spot above the Hammers
Just read today that there were rumors that Zaha slept with Moyes' daughter. He says they never met
That's seven goals for Mahrez now this season. They've got a strike partnership that's bagged 17 goals already!!
Shows what playing two up front can do for you, eh?
Crikey - no wonder David shopped him but quick.
Handbags at Vicarage Road
Palace look the more likely, it has to be said.
Leicester City have taken the lead
They have the whole match
Ashley Young coming on for the booked Darmian now.
United won't score two against West Brom like Leicester have
Boro have taken the lead against Charlton
Make that eight for Mahrez - the Foxes rolling on.
Young on for Darmian... really positive move by LVG
I think he may have moved Martial into the middle and Roon deeper
Right now, United have not risen in the league
They have been overtaken by the Foxes
Pool and Spurs are only four points behind. Spurs with a game in hand at home to Villa
Otimendi scores for City
Have United had a shot on goal?
Have they made the keeper make one save except for him coming out to Roon's feet
Ashley Young gets booed and then cheered with an atrocious cross? Shot?
Probably booing for his Watford days
Arsenal two up
Kosc
Useless effort by Martial with a dribble... I AM SO FED UP
Sorry, mate.
Was a clear foul on keeper before the Arse's second
Boro two up
The color guy is impressed by Martial - I like him too.
Cabaye should have put United down there
Oh - Cabaye is inches away from opening the scoring for Palace. Should have scored.
He looked clueless there
Palace fans have long memories... he hasn't played at Vicarage Road for YONKS
The Guardian says that the second Arsenal goal was controversial as Giroud clattered into Fabianski in the build up. Swansea fans not happy about it.
