A Critical Weekend in the Premiership
Morning, chaps! I hope that you all had a lovely Thanksgiving with you and yours. But shake off the turkey coma, because it's time for the Premiership again. It's a big, big weekend in the Prem. We start with a wounded Man City against the Saints at the Etihad. They've lost two on the trot - can the title challengers turn it around today? Then it's the biggie - the most exciting attack in the Prem against the most stingy defense: Leicester v. United. Something's got to give. And there is that small matter of a goal-scoring record on the line.
Meanwhile, I'll also have an eye on Loftus Road where my beloved LUFC will take on QPR today. We could use a hard-battling away draw in the capital today. Join me for all the fun, won't you?
450 Comments:
Morning Robert
I am here ready for another day of footie... the 10 o'clockers followed by Top of the Table clash. Not sure if the Turkey or United will make me take a nap just after Noon!
Already got an SS link going strong. I think I might have found an audio on my iPhone thru Tunein Radio
Nice Pic by the way BD
Did you see about the Arsenal's travel arrangements for the trip to Norwich? Did the get it sorted thru Ticket to Ride?
Drive from London to Luton, take a FOURTEEN minute flight from Luton to Norwich!!!
Early match in the Championship
Ipswich have won 3 nil at the Valley
Of course, on the way from Hawaii, we flew from Honolulu to LA and then LA to San Diego... 19 minutes!
As we all know, this is Nocito Sportscenter and all sports are covered on a Saturday morning. Before the footie, a tennis update.
GB are in the Davis Cup Final for the first time since 1970 and trying to win the Davis Cup for the first time 1936
Yesterday, a young bloke making his debut for the Brits went two set up in the first rubber but won three games in the next three sets to lose in five. Andy Murray won the second rubber in straight sets. Today, the Murray Brothers are on the court in Belgium. First set GB up 4-3 on serve
More updates to follow
What will Villa do today at home to Watford... surely they have to win this one!!!!
Morning, UWS - glad that you liked that image. I don't usually cotton to those souvenir scarves, but that one seemed particularly appropriate.
Saw my typo, GB are in their first DCF since 1979 not 70
They got crushed by McEnroe and Co 4-1 back then
What a nonsense those Arsenal travel plans are! I hadn't heard that. Not sure we can blame the Gooner on that one. I didn't know that you could have that short a flight - how to they get the plane up and down in that kind of time. No drinks service, for sure.
Morning Bob
I agree with you... hate to hold up the colors of another team
Definitely a must-win for Remi Garde and co. If they're bottom at Christmas, you know what happens.
Here's a question for you. Are Villa the only club other than Arsenal never to be relegated?
During our 19 minute flight from LA to SD, the stewardess walked down the aisle with a bottle of water in one hand and plastic cups in the other. You grab a cup and she pours
I passed on my refreshment btw
I think the split scarf phenomenon is a trend among Premiership fans who aren't true supporters but are there just for the experience, especially the foreign fans. I usually see Asian guys holding them up. They're rubbish.
Villa have been relegated... even after they were European Champs!
They've been in third tier too
I think Everton haven't been relegated
That sounds like the silliest flight in history!
Oh - is that it! Thanks for clearing up the Villa, Everton issue.
I got one sent to me from my B-in-law with Cambridge v United in the Cup last year. Matt has it hanging up in Siena
First break of the first set comes in the 10th game... GB takes the first set 6-4
The late game probably won't be the clash of the top two
City with a point will go second, with three would be top before kick off
Come on Sotton, don't let Citeh blow it!
The Foxes and Red Devils have played being the top two
In 2000, the met at Filbert Street with City on top of the heap
United won 3-0
Here are the teams lining up in the tunnel now at the Etihad:
Man City: Caballero, Sagna, Otamendi, Demichelis, Kolarov, Delph, Fernandinho, De Bruyne, Toure, Sterling, Aguero. Subs: Fernando, Bony, Jesus Navas, Silva, Clichy, Wright, Iheanacho.
Southampton: Stekelenburg, Yoshida, Fonte, van Dijk, Bertrand, Wanyama, Romeu, Steven Davis, Ward-Prowse, Mane, Long. Subs: Kelvin Davis, Clasie, Tadic, Martina, Juanmi, Ramirez, Caulker.
Referee: Roger East.
I'm ignoring your tennis updates, btw. Saturday mornings are only for the footer.
Glad you're ignoring.... I'm continuing BTW
Good morning chaps. I'm here to join you during our first chilly morning of the season.
Morning MUR... i'd sign off if you don't want Davis Cup updates... THEY ARE COMMING
Hart is out injured for Citeh and is replaced by Willy Caballero while Pelle is out for the Saints due to yellow card accumulation.
I'm fine with the Bette Davis Cup updates. I saw that Andy Murray won yesterday
Shocking behavior - Kate has refused to sing along to MOT with me. Shocking.
I will have to miss some of the first half of this one
Shadow is getting restless
It's not that nice outside. We've had beautiful weather here but turned wet and chilly
I'll be back after a short one
Cheers UWS. You described our weather too.
Morning, MUR! How are you, mate?
The Saints get us underway at the Etihad and we're away on another big Premiership weekend.
They're off from the Etihad.
Enjoy your walkies, mate!
I'm doing well. I had a sort of frustrating day yesterday, but hoping for better today
How ave you and Kate been?
Shocking by Kate... shocking!!
Stecks fumbles a shot from Yaya then is alert to an unexpected back pass.
Really atrocious by Kate. Is she a ringer for one of the Sheffield clubs?
Naughty by Mane on aguero
Sorry . Wanayama.
One way traffic so far. Aguero is upended and Cithe have an early free kick chance. It's teeming down at the Etihad.
Oh - Kolarov hit one that Stekelenberg bobbled. Held on to it at the second attempt.
Stecks saves a curling free kick from Kolorov and as he was grabbing the rebound a sliding Otamendi slid into him. . The wet , slippery conditions are really playing a part.
Here are some Championship updates if you are interested. Yesterday , Derby won 0-2 at top of the table Hull City to go top, themselves. The Tractor Boys won 0-3 at Charlton, who are one point above the drop zone. The Tractor Boys move up to 7th
GOAL!!!! THE SAINTS FEEL DE BRUYNE STERLING PICKED YOSHIDA'S POCKET, RAN DOWN THE LEFT AND INTO THE BOX , THEN HIS PASS WAS EASILY TAPPED IN BY DE BRUYNE.
I missed that opening goal from Citeh by the Ginger Winger as I was getting my brekkies together. Terrible defending by Yoshida.
Bob will be pleased that Blackburn have taken the lead vs Not a Big Club.
Thanks for the Championship updates. I suppose a defeat by Charlton is good for us.
Middlesbrough take the lead at the Terriers and are now level on points with the Rams. The Teesiders will go top with another goal, unless the Seagulls win at Evil Cardiff/
Pappis Cisse puts the beleaguered Newcastle one up at Palace.
Bob will like what he saw as Delph got a gift from the Saints . Her played a slide rule pass to Aguero and Stecks rushed out to Block from him. The corner was headed wide and now Otamendi is down. He seems OK. Another corner that is headed out and Citeh win a free kick near the D. Romeu commits tyhe foul
I am happy whenever Not a Big Club is losing.
Palace tie it up for Alan Pardew against his former club
Kolorov has a free kick blocked for a corner.
An out swinger from Kolorov is headed out by Van Dijck, not Dick
Well, that Toon lead didn't last long. Connor "Bloody" Wickham teeing up McArthur for an equalizer.
James MacArthur with the goal that was assisted by Connor Bloody Whickham . Sorry mate.,
Everyone looks really miserable in the cold, driving rain.
I'm reasonably happy that Wickham is toiling away in relative obscurity at Selhurst Park.
Reading take the lead at Forest
PNE take the lead at the Cottage.
Rotherham take the lead vs Bristol City.
The last two are not good news for Leeds.
Aguero wins a corner off of Fonte ,w ho defended really well against him./
The Seagulls go top of the pops as the lake the lead vsd 6th placed Brum.
Oh - free header for Fernandinho. And they're claiming a handball off the line. Yes - Soton got away with that one.
GOAL! Delph adds a second from a deflected effort. Van Dyck might get credited with that one.
Fernando has a header blocked by a hand for a corner then
GOAL !!! BOB WILL BNE PLEASED TO SEE DELPH SCORE FROM A TRAINING GROUND ROUTINE AS THE CORNER WAS TAKEN SHORT AND DELPH SCORED WITH A DEFLECTION OFF OF DICK VAN DIJCK THAT WRONG FOOTED STECKS.
Palace have turned it around - Bolassie with the latest strike!
I think you're LUFC Academy Boy will be credited with that because it was on target before the deflection.
OH!!! Van Dijck with a rocket that comes off the corner off the post and bar. I will be surprised if Willy even saw that one.
Alan Pardew will be delighted to stick it to the team he left under bitter circumstances.
Forest tie it up vs the Reading Railroad.
Brum tie it up at the Seagulls.
Igahalo puts Watford in the lead at Villa Park . How does Graham Taylor feel?
Great solo run by Mane and he was stopped by a textbook tackle by Otamendi
I am back
Listening to Talksport on the walk... this match at the Etihad is so one sided!
Everton have scored at Dean Court
Sagna fouls Bertrand just outside the box.
The Saints go close there
Caballero punches away a free kick he should have caught then superbly saves the rebound from Wanayama, a close range volley
Welcome back, UWS.
Villa are hopeless.
Goals everywhere in the Prem except at SoL
Not so bright there then!!
Everton have gone 0-1 up away to struggling Bournemouth through a Mori header.
Saints hit the woodwork just at the end of my walk, right?
Davis Cup Update
Belgium are up a break in the second set
5-3 with GB serving
Ramiro Funes-Mori with his first goal for the Toffees. Barkley with the assist
Soton have a free kick oppo as Manu is upended by Otamendi. Ward Prowse tries a curler but it's always well wide.
The free kick from James Ward- prowse lacks the curl and goes wide.
Rotherham following up their win at Elland Road are now two up at home against Bristol City
Correct . Van DEijck did a minute after he deflected in a shot from the LUFC Academy Boy from a short corner for Citeh's second
Pompey one down at Wycombe
Not good news from Bob's point of view.
Shane Long is down hurt.. so is a teammate
Now Long is down - these players are going down with a heavy breath at their back. What on earth? Kate is disgusted by their behavior.
Cambridge as well vs Notts County
I agree with Kate.
Not good - Rotherham are putting pressure on us. I never thought I'd type that sentence. Oh dear.
Tell Kate we are disgusted with her behavior with the lack of MoT
Pompey two down!
The Saints are temporarily down a man as FGonte goes to the dressing room to receive stitches. They ha d a hard enough time with eleven , let alone ten
I'll take a point at Loftus Road today, which would take us up to 20 points from 18 matches. Ahead of schedule.
Top of the table clash from last week when Coventry took on Gillingham
Coventry crushed the Gills
This week, Coventry winning again and Gillingham are losing
Forest 2-1 against Reading
Sterling over from close range
I don't know if I will be able to comment from the King Power table
It will be too frustrating... I just know it will
Belgium serving for the second set 5-4
It looks as if Fonte won't be able to continue. Stephen Caulker, who I once thought might make a future England center back, is coming on.
jFGH's lads are drawing 1-1 vs Colchester. They can go second with a win and a Gils loss.
Second set done and dusted
Best of three in the crucial doubles tie
That's his Saints debut. As of now , being the England center back is a million miles away for him/
Northampton saved from the taxman this week and now take the lead at home to Yeovil
Kate is definitely in the doghouse today after that earlier behavior.
The Toffees are two up
Lukaku with the goal
How did United crush them three nil a Goodison?
Welcome back, UWS! I'm hoping for a 5-5 goalfest at the King Power today.
JFH's Lads now lead 2-1 and are second in League One. Evil Millwall take the lad vs Bury.
Blackpool lead Fleetwood Mac in a local derby.
JFH's lads take the lead
Mane wins a corner off of Yaya from a one -two
I think Lukaku is now part of a select group to have scored 100 Premiership goals before his 23rd birthday. Might make a good trivia question.
Forest now lead the Reading Railroad 2-1.
It would be an excellent pub question.
As If LVG would allow a goal fest. He won't be doing the Fox Trot.
Bucketing it down in Manchester
Kate's now trying to sing MOT to redeem herself, but she's struggling to remember the words. Poor form.
Saints corner doesn't beat the front post... WHY DO TEAMS STILL PUT IT THERE!!
ONCE IN HUNDRED IS IT SUCCESSFUL!!!!!
A return to ER for JFH next season. It could be with Burton Albion or as next manager of Leeds.,
Shocking!!!!
Willy pushes a long range effort from Long.
Villa tie it up
Micah Richards with the goal
AND another goal in the Prem...
Palace extend their lead
Agreed. The near post corners should be one of several different types of corners, not the only one.
Shef Wed tie it up at Ewood
Still a small club, eh?
Maybe Kate can sing
U-N-I-T-E-D
United are the team for me
With a knick-knack paddy whack
Give a dog a bone
Why don't City ef off home
Not sure that a draw at home against Watford is good enough. But it's a start.
You guys are wrong
Zaha has added a third goal for Palace against woeful Newcastle.
Cardiff take the lead at home to Burnley
I'll suggest it but MOT might be all that she can handle.
Yaya receives yet another early season gist , but over runs the ball as it runs to Stecks
Love to see a Saint goal before half just to ask the odd question
Yes. A start for Villa, who had a horrible run under Tim Sherwood. It will take time for Remy Garde
Two minutes of stoppage time/.
Luis Suarez has apparently just scored a YouTube ready acrobatic scissor kick goal for Barca against Real Sociedad.
United's young striker Wilson went on loan to Brighton this week
Just what a team that doesn't score needs to do
Rover retake the lead against Wednesday
Zaha with the goal for Palace that was assisted by Connor Bloody Whickham. A brace of assists now. Sorry Bob.
QPR are on top with possession but not on the scoreboard
Bacari Sagna down getting treatment now.
Bob will be pleased about that scoreline
Leeds drawing 0-0 at Evil Neal's lot.
The Gils tie it up at the Shrews
Uh oh... Belgium get the first break of the third set
The Murray brothers better get their fingers out
2-1
Half time at the Etihad
Citeh are two up at the half and are temporarily top of the pops.
That's half-time, then. Citeh go in 2-0 up. Hard to see Soton getting back into this one.
I'll put up with a 0-0 draw.
Pompey get a goal back at Wycombe
I can hear the Pompey Chimes
Play up Pompey
Pompey play up
Play up Pompey
Pompey play up
Citeh blowing it for NBC
They are on top as we stand
GB get the break back and then hold
Royal Britannia
Britannia rules the waves
The Black Cats move out of the drop zone and are replaced by their rival Toon. The Black Cats are ahead on gd.
We're back on at the Etihad where the crowd is enjoying a giant "Hey Jude" sing-a-long.
Tadic on for Romeu as the pond frog makes an attack switch.
The second half is underway
Hey Jude ringing out at the Etihad
Why do they have a Liverpool group playing
Why not Oasis
Did everyone see why Fred is pleased.
That didn't take long
Palace make it 4-1
Sagna is now sporting the time-honored Paul Ince "Pint of Guinness" look.
Good point, UWS. They are not wearing their LOB thinking caps.
Fred is pleased that Palace now lead the Toon 4-1.
Shawcross gets a second yellow and is off at the SoL
It's true - Noel Gallagher would not be pleased.
GB get a second break on the trot
2-1 down and now 4-2 up
Bolassie with his second for Palace and now on a hat-trick
Ryan Shawcross has picked up a second yellow and Stoke are down to 10 men against Sunderland.
Fred is really delighted as he's now sensing three points.
Nocito Sportscaster beat me to it, of course.
He's probably there watching!
Maybe the crowds are singing
Hey Blues
Na na na na na na na na na na na na
Hey Blues
Does that mean that he's come out from under the bed, MUR?
YES!!
Sotton get a goal back... get another and another!!
GOAL! Shane Long scores from a great cross from Mane to put Soton right back into this one.
GOAL !!! THE SAINTS PULL ONE BACK AS LONG HEADS IN FROM CLOSE RANGE OFF A CROSS FROM MANE.,
SS link is behind... still no reaction for the Saints goal... there it is
Oh dear
Belgium break back...Jamie keeps losing his server... Andy must be bummed
Sorry that was Wanyama with the cross - a sumptuous one too. Long merely had to get his head on it.
Brighton take the lead at him to Brum
Fred has a actually been awake . It's either the first cool weather of the season or him sensing some favorable results.
Forest 3-1 up against Reading
Cambridge tie it up against Notts
Wouldn't it be brilliant for Citeh to blow this!
I think it was Mane with the cross as Sterling fell asleep when Tadic took a short free kick to Mane , so he could provide the cross.
IT IS BREAKSVILLE, USA in Belgium
GB break to go 5-3 up
The Saints have a free kick where they did when they scored. , but Citeh clear this time and win a free kick
The shrews tie it up vs the Gils while JFH's lads now lead Colchester 3-1.
Sotton scored with a classic cross... who'da thunk it!!
Bloody modern game
The Seagulls replace the Rams for top of the Championship.
ANIMALS!
Game and Third Set Great Britain
One two go and then one more Andy Murray win and the Cup will be back in Blighty for the first time since 1936
Murray brings home the Wimbledon title and the Davis Cup for the first time since Fred Perry.... let's hope
James Ward-Prowse receives the first booking of the match for what seemed a minor foul on Sterling
I'm lovin buggin Dr Dahl with these tennis updates!!
Di Michelis booked for a foul on the break that looked a lot worse than that by WQrd -Prowse.
Becky should be phoning Desmond if she really wants to help NBC
Not bugging me, mate. What's happening in the Tiddlywinks?
Doncaster gets it even at Ricoh against the league leaders Coventry... by the way... you still say that wrong!!
It is not like Loventry
Evil QPR take the lead vs Leeds . Sorry Bob.
Did either of you see the "Blazercom" episode of "Men In Blazers" this week? That looked like a lot of fun - wish I'd gone!
