The Best Day of the Season!
Good early morning, chaps! Ah - the FA Cup Third Round - can you smell it in the air. Despite the antics of the FA, television companies and Premiership managers, it's still the best day of the season. The romance of the Cup is still very much alive here in the Cottage. I'm all set to enjoy a full morning of FA Cup action, starting with Wycombe v. Villa at 7:30am EST. That's followed by the bulk of the fixtures at 10am, including the all-Premiership clash of Arsenal v. Sunderland. And then we end the day with United vs. the Evil Blades at 12:30pm. Join me for all the fun here on the blog, won't you?

Good morning, chaps! We start this very early morning with the fixture with the biggest possibility of a major upset: Premiership strugglers Villa visiting high flying L2 side Wycombe Wanderers. A lot of pundits are predicting an early exit for the Villans. It's certainly the last stand for Villa manager Remi Garde who's lost just about every match he's been in charge for.
I've gotten so used to the brilliant NBC Sports coverage, that it's a shock going back to Fox. A bit like riding a moped after driving a Merc for several years. It's all still here - the canned preview shows, the ad breaks in the middle of everything, Rob Stone. Bloody hell - will they never learn?
Villa make six changes to the starting XI swatted aside at Sunderland last week. Most notably, Mark Bunn takes over from Brad Guzan in goal, Ashley Westwood returns from suspension, and Scott Sinclair injects a bit of pace and dynamism to proceedings. Incidentally, the entire team were serenaded by their own fans as they traipsed off the coach.
"You’re not fit to wear the shiiii-iiiiiii-iiiiirt"
Oh dear.
Despite all the giant-killing hype before this match, these clubs are still separated by 54 spots in the pecking order. This could just as easily be Villa's springboard toward Premiership survival. Who knows? It's the magic of the Cup!
Good morning Bob. I will be around for another twenty minutes. Perhaps Vanilla Soft Serve will get their first win with Remy Garde as manager.
I think Wycombe is where London Central is located . Is that correct? I believe that I remember the matches being played around that town.
It's a shorter journey than I expected for Villa. Just a century of miles.
The players now lining up in the make-shift tunnel at Adams Park:
Wycombe Wanderers: Lynch, McCarthy, Stewart, Pierre, Jacobson, Harriman, Bloomfield, O’Nien, Wood, Thompson, Amadi-Holloway.
Subs: Jombati, McGinn, Richardson, Kretzschmar, Rowe, Ugwu, Udumaga.
Aston Villa: Bunn, Okore, Clark, Richards, Richardson, Bacuna, Gana, Westwood, Sinclair, Gil, Gestede.
Subs: Guzan, Lescott, Veretout, Ayew, Kozak, Lyden, Cissokho.
Referee: Michael Oliver (Northumberland).
Theses teams last met in the League Cup in 2005. Villa were 3-1 down at the half and came back to win 8-3.
Morning, MUR - great to have you on board early doors. How long is your trip today? As short as Villa's?
Remy Garde is putting out a decent lineup, not the reserve team that Klopp put out yesterday.
Ta, Bob. My trip is much shorter. About 25 miles and all rural travel.
Micah Richards has been hitting back at the media criticism of Villa's back four, but they have been tragic this season.
Not bad, mate. Not bad.
It's a small stadium, but the pitch is in decent condition and more modern looking than Exeter's
Wycombe's manager is a former Villa player?
Dan O'Hagan and Ray Houghton on the mics this morning.
They're off!
Odd camera angle for the match - it looks as if the camera is perched on a tower flat behind the main stand.
Micah Richards wins an early Villa corner
Early Corner chance for Villa. Bit of panic in the area but it's eventually gathered by Lynch.
Head tennis of the corner from Gil and the keeper eventually catches it.
Villa will need to be more than avant garde to win this match.
The last meeting between these teams sounded like a crazy match
Holloway bundles his way through Kieran Clark there. He seems very direct. First corner for Wycombe. What's their nickname, mate?
Holloway got behind the Villa defense , who scrambled to clear then win a corner off of Kieran Richardson
A scramble in the box and Thompson stabs wide.
Oh - decent chance there. Mad scramble in the box and Thompson had a chance to toe poke it home. Wide.
Sorry mate. I'm not familiar with Wycombe trivia.
Useless pass from Scott Sinclair.Very avant garde.
No worries, mate - I just Wiki-ed it. They're the "Chairboys," whatever that means.
Better pass from Sinclair as Wycombe clear from their goal mouth
I guess they subs were chair warmers instead of bench warmers in the day. Well in, mate
Fred is pacing around nervously. He will not get any sympathy from the Gooner.
This could easily be 1-1 already. A highly entertaining start, with both teams looking up for the battle.
Wycombe is higher up the table than Exeter, but Villa haven't put out a youth team. A win by the Chair Boys would be a giant killing.
Are you ready for Villa to visit ER next season? It could be a tasty fixture.
I was quite impressed by Exeter. They didn't just lump it at the big boys. They got the ball down and played it about well. They should have won but probably a draw and a big pay day at Anfield suited them.
I'm off to the meet. I will be around for the matches tomorrow. It was great chatting , albeit it briefly. Cheers mate.
Sure. I don't think there has ever been any special animosity between the sides. And they don't have any of our old boys any more now that Delph has left.
Cheerio, mate - best of luck to you and your kids.
Gueye has a dig from 25 yards down the inside-left channel. The shot’s deflected to Richardson, who is in the box in acres, but hesitates and instead of shooting opts to dink a cross towards Gestede. Lynch flaps a little when intercepting, and the ball’s only half cleared to Westwood, who looks for the top right from 20 yards, but doesn’t keep his shot down. It’s not the highest quality fare, but it is good fun.
Gil sways and sashays down the right, reaches the byline, and threads a rather good pass back to Gueye on the edge of the box. Gueye has time to shoot, but opts to take a touch to the right and is hounded out of it.
GOAL! Micah Richards opens the scoring at Adams Park with a simple pass into the back of the net after some nice build up.
And now Richards is down needing treatment. He's waving at the bench, looks like he may have to go off.
The away supporters are singing a wry version of "Que Sera" now.
Richards has limped back on. He'll continue for the time being.
Great ball in from the corner for Wycombe and Bunn does so well to punch it clear. Guzan may be in trouble if Bunn keeps this up.
Half an hour in and Villa are bossing this match.
The impetus has gone out of this one since Richards scored. We need a Wycombe goal to bring this one back to life.
Off for a snuggle with the missus. I'll be back for the second half.
I'm back for the beginning of the second half and Wycombe have a penalty!
Joe Jacobson steps up and....scores!
Wycombe are level under somewhat dodgy circumstances. But Westwood can only have himself to blame for that one. He made the ref make a decision.
1-1!
That is precisely what this tie needed. Now what?
Wycombe really have their tails up now. Nearly a second goal there. Cleared off the line.
Hey Boys
This is from my phone. I don't have computer usage
Richards is in the wars again - trudging off for treatment for a second time.
Morning, UWS - how about this for FA Cup drama?!
Hope you're enjoying it with your lads.
Oh - good free kick there that was spilled at the first offing by Lynch. Grabbed it at the second.
Adams Park is bouncing now - great atmosphere!
Tom and Matt had work today. They are coaches at a soccer place
I'll try and get on computer soon
Have to walk after the final whistle
No worries, mate - enjoy the walkies.
We've reached the hour mark. What will the two managers add to this one.
Rudy Gestede does not impress me one bit - he's a statue.
A striker swap now for Wycombe. And Villa are doing a double change. Ayew for Sinclair.
And Veretout for Gil. Strange one there. Gil has probably been Villa's best player today.
Those changes seem to have put a spring in Villa's step.
Ok, I have the computer now!
Last 15 minutes to go
Inside the last fifteen minutes now - will this one tip one way or the other?
Welcome, mate. How do you predict this one going?
Got my SS link going
What's the link, mate?
http://live.sports4u.tv/schedule/soccer-saturday-live-stream/
I have this saved on my computer for every week
The little windows are annoying and you have to click the correct x to close each window but it does work well
Oh - Gestede has one deflected off the crossbar. Lynch was no where.
I'll give it a go.
Villa finishing the stronger here. They really don't need another midweek tie when they're struggling to stay up.
Everton make 8 changes from the semi... bloody modern day managers
Stoke nine changes
Bournemouth ELEVEN changes
I HATE IT
Ridiculous - none of those sides have any business challenging for anything in the Premiership.
I know... don't they think the fans actually want to WIN something
Watching the John Cleese commercial!!!!
Thrashing a car!!
nice one!!
Three minute of stoppage time to come - it's all Villa pressure now.
Exactly - all fans want a decent Cup run and dream about a trip to Wembley.
That is it
Another draw for League 2 team and away day pay day
I am off for walkies
I'll be back for the 3 o'clockers
ttfn
That's it - just like yesterday, the fourth division side has earned a big money replay at a Premiership ground. Good stuff.
Enjoy your walkies.
Next up on the box is the all-Premiership clash between Arsenal and Sunderland. Here are the teams:
Arsenal:
Petr Cech
Hector Bellerin
Armando Gabriel

What on earth are Sunderland wearing today. All green? They look like pod people.
A burst of the MOT before the match starts. Come on, you Whites!
We're away at the Emirates. Sunderland are blending into the turf.
First goal of the Cup afternoon - Martin Peterson has fired Posh into the lead against PNE.
Uh oh - reference to 1973 Final - shhhhhh!
Oh dear oh dear - a terrible cock-up by Koz at the back and Jens sneaks in to score.
0-1 Sunderland.
Bellerin is down with a knock now getting treatment.
I am back from walkies
Was listening to Talksport around the grounds... makes the walk not so boring
must hate any mention of Montgomery, Porterfield and Stokoe
Forest take the lead at home against QPR
That man Sergio Aguero has fired Citeh 0-1 into the lead at Carrow Road.
Welcome back, mate - I'll bet your surprised to see this scoreline. Terrible cock up by Koz at the back.
Doncaster tie it up at home to Stoke
Arsenal tie it up too
GOAL! Campbell levels it for the Gunners!
The most fascinating match-up there between Theo and Yedlin. Theo burned him for pace and pulled it back for the Costa Rican. Nice finish!
1-1!
The Ox has a go - well wide of the mark.
Put a sock in it about the '73 Sunderland Cup side.
Things that drive me nuts about the modern day footie and the FA Cup
Managers not taking it seriously AND Skysports!
They don't have rights so lets pretend it's not happening... the panel all have matches in League 1 and 2
WHY?
They don't have coverage but they can still have a reporter there
Palace take lead at St Marys
City two up at City
Norwich had improved recently but they're still fairly tragic.
Colchester take lead against struggling Charlton
Come on, you Whites!
Bonnie Charlie has Swindon Southend!!
Big Nose has Rochdale Chesterfield
Ridiculous
That is irritating. But how are you even watching Sky Sports?
The Toffees take the lead against Dags
Kone with the goal
on that link I gave you
SS
Oh - it's the SS link; I couldn't open it - it required a higher version of Flash player than I have now.
http://live.sports4u.tv/schedule/soccer-saturday-live-stream/
no it doesn't
Just cancel all of that stuff
Just keep closing windows and it is there
Look for faint x's to press
Look for the ones that pop up first
Fletcher down getting treatment now.
I couldn't get anywhere with it. But I'll try again.
Colchester are the only side in the FA Cup who are leading!
Walsall take lead at Brentford
Boro take lead against Burnley
The only home side, that is.
Cambridge behind at Crawley in the league
So who's home watching the matches with you today? Jonathan? Matt?
Forest are winning at home too
Come on, you Whites! We need a goal!
and Boro
Ah yeah - you're right.
Brum take the lead against Bournemouth
Okay, I'm a numpty.
I'm alone watching the matches
Jon doesn't watch it much and he's still in bed anyway
Matt and Tom are both coaching today
Hull 1 Brighton 0
Colchester two up
Next year, we'll have to get together to watch.
Wednesday take the lead against Fulham on Saturday
Bournemouth and Fulham each equalize
Watford take the lead against the Toon
Goal at Goodison.... to Daggers!!!
Goal at Elland Road.... TO THE HOSTS!!!
Carayol.... a loanee... scores in the last min of half
YESSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Burnley tie it up at the Riverside
I noticed him on the team-sheet. I don't know him at all.
HT at the Em
Visitors doing well
On loan from Boro
Mustapha Carayol is a 27 year old loanee from Boro.
http://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/sport/leeds-united/latest-lufc-news/video-skills-tricks-and-goals-of-new-leeds-united-loanee-carayol-1-7663768
Great time for him to score his first goal for us. Wahay!
Oh no... there wasn't a second goal at Goodison!!
Daggers didn't equalizer!!
SS have to apologize to all the Daggers' fans for announcing a phantom goal. The bloke at the ground says.... nothing has happened here!
Don't like how they do the draw for each round these days too
The draw for the 4th Round is Monday with a bunch of fans at some place
It's so weird that I can list every cup final from 1970 on wards with the winners, losers and score but then I struggle with the last ten!!!
Underway again at the Em
We're back on at the Em. I've just had a bit of a singalong to "Leeds United Calypso" in the kitchen, Kate getting involved with the dancing.
I do like that tremendously. Let's hope that both of our Uniteds are in the draw for the 4th Round.
Campbell to swing an early free kick in. Not sure why he isn't a target.
Like the Kate involvement?
Great cross in from Campbell but Koz and The Ox got in each other's way.
well done madam, well done
No massive upsets on the cards at present, unless you count Colchester leading Charlton.
Northampton tie it up against MK Dons
The whole family is involved in the Leeds project now - I got a Leeds flag and flag pole set up for Christmas from my mother-in-law.
Goal at St Marys.... 1-1
More Arsenal pressure now - two corners in a row.
Campbell has looked good this afternoon.
Well done Robert... brainwashing in full effect!!
Goal in the Cup.... EASTLEIGH take the lead against Bolton!!!
OG
Ipswich take the lead but Pompey equalize immediately!!
Pompey beat Ipswich in the 3rd round at PR in 08.... went on to win the Cup
Stoke retake the lead at Doncaster
Oh - how did the Gunners miss that opportunity!?
Arsenal hit the post and then just wide
Posh double their lead against Preston NE
That was on the cards from the off - Bolton are in terrible shape. Are Eastleigh the only non leaguers left?
Northampton were down at halftime but are now beating MK
Oh - off the bar from Fletcher!!
Lovely - I hate the fake Dons.
Sunderland should have taken the lead!
Off the bar and then fired over from seven yards
Jeff goes crazy.... in a middle of a sentence he screams.... HARTLEPOOL 1 Derby 0
Another thing wrong with the Cup
The BBC posts a picture of Bojan posting a picture of him at his home watching his teammates at Doncaster... why isn't he there!!!!
That would be quite a result for Hartlepool. I fancy Derby to go up this year.
That is absurd.
Penalty miss at Brum... from the hosts
Huddersfield take lead at home to Reading
I'd like this match on TV to go to a replay just to annoy Big Sam a little bit more!!
I remember it well
Eastleigh 1-0 Derby
Posted at 16:21
The weather, and the pitch, at Eastleigh is getting silly now. It's almost Ronnie Radford style stuff as Bolton throw the kitchen sink at the National League side...
That would be fun - Big Sam is a numpty. What else do Sunderland have to play for? They're already relegated.
Nice Ronnie Redford reference.
Of course, Fox won't show all the goals unlike NBC
I am still pissed that they have the World Cup instead of ESPN
absolutely flew into McFaul's net
Lucky SS is on commercial... Derby tie it up
Alex Iwobi comes off to be replaced by Ramsey.
And Chambers off as well for Arteta.
I used to like the replays being in midweek of the same week. Now we wait another week
I do prefer the olden days... am i an old codger
Palace retake the lead
Me too, mate. Me too. I would have it all go back to the old days, even if we had slightly less live footer on the telly.
Berahino scores four minutes after coming on against Bristol City
Not a result just a bit of gossip
Oh - Theo tries to side foot home but just passes it back to the Sunderland keeper.
GOAL! THERE IT IS! Ramsey taps home after a lovely move between Bellerin and Campbell.
2-1!
