Liverpool v. United Live!
Afternoon, chaps - I've settling in here at the office to follow the afternoon's Europa Leagues matches, highlighted by Liverpool and United's meeting of the minds at Anfield. I'm not sure that either side really wants to be in the EL but here they are in the latter stages and with a chance to grab some silverware. But first they need to get beyond each other. The first leg starts tonight at 2:45 pm. Join me on Fox and here on the LOB for a natter.

In the earlier kick-offs, Shakhtar have jumped into a 2-0 lead over Anderlecht. All the others are at 0-0 currently, including Dortmund v. Spurs.
Dortmund have taken the lead after some horrible defending by Spurs through Peter Aubemeyang. And it's gone half-time there.
Oh - quite a let-off for Spurs when it seemed obvious that Dortmund would notch a second. They're riding their luck and if they can keep the scoreline down, they might be able to get some more luck at Shite Fart.
Dortmund have taken a 2-0 lead now and it's looking grim for Spurs. The phrase - "that's so Spursy" is running through my head.
Oh dear - Marco Reus has added a third goal for Dortmond. So, it's adieu for Spurs in this one.
Good afternoon, Bob. I should be able to join you about fifteen minutes after kickoff. I am a little tentative about United's chances.
Fenerbache lead Braga 1-0 while Shakhtar lead Anderlecht 3-1
Into stoppage time in Dortmund with the hosts still 3-0 up and I'm switching over to the coverage out of Anfield.
Cheers, MUR - I'll look forward to the pleasure of your company this afternoon.
The teams now gathering in the famous tunnel at Anfield:

The above scores are now final scores. Also, Dortmund mashed some Spuds 3-0 and it was 0-0 between Basel Brush and the Barbers of Seville.
Cheers mate. I enjoy your company too and thanks for the great post.
I'm sure a certain travel agent in DC had a good giggle over that result this afternoon.
Amazingly, this is the very first meeting between these two sides in Europe - how is that possible?
The atmosphere is bubbling nicely. Anfield is awash with flags and banners, including a gigantic one in the Kop referring to Liverpool’s five European Cups.
That is correct. I had not remembered them meeting in Europe. It's not that often that teams from the same league meet in European competition
Klopp's former team beat a Prem team, but here's hoping that his current team does not
And we're away!
The first of what should be quite a few encounters between Lallana and Fellaini.
And early booking for Henderson.
Liverpool were expected to come tearing out of the blocks but United, clearly under orders from Van Gaal, have have stolen their thunder and forced them on to the back foot early doors.
United had a free kick chance but Mata floated one straight into Minnie's arms.
A quick check on the EL predictions:
Blue Devil - Napoli
Chelskilad - Spurs
Gooner - Shalke
MUR - Fiorentina
Red Devil - Dortmund
Red Dragon - Dortmund
The Saint - Dortmund
Someone Said - Sevilla
Swansong - Dortmund
UWS - Dortmund
West Ham - Astra (out)
Simon - Dortmund
Yellows - Liverpool
Penalty to Liverpool!!!!
Looked soft to me, but Martial leaned a bit of the man. Got booked for it.
Sturridge to take then....
Bit of a stutter step and in
1-0 Pool!
Oh - saved by Twilight right on the line. Coutinho should have scored there.
Great save by De Gea from Coutinho when it appeared that he had been caught out of position
I'm back. My students just finished with their end of Nine Weeks Exams.
I was collecting a test when the penalty was awarded. From the replay it seemed really soft and ridiculous that there was even a booking.
How were the students?
That was never a penalty. he was jockeying for position . I'm betting this ref never played football.
They were testing, so it was a pretty quiet day other than the fire drill that was called.
I agree - very soft.
For a team whose tactics are based on ball possession, 27% is a puny amount
Oh - Twilight saves United again at the feet of Sturridge.
Great save by De Gea from Sturridge after pathetic defending from Smalling
The home team leads 1-0 in all four EL ties currently in progress. The leaders are Villarreal vs Leverkusen, Bilbao vs Valencia ,and Sparta Prague vs Lazio
Loveren is called for holding Hair Bear just outside the United box.
Free kick chance now for United. Can they make something of this?
The free kick from Memphis is horribly wide.
3.14 takes and it's well wide, sort of a Ronaldo effort but without the accuracy.
A bit rash by Moreno on Rashford.
Sturridge wins a corner.
The corner was taken short and the cross from Lallana was headed out by Hair Bear.
Lazio have tied it up at Sparta Prague
Lallana forces a close range reflex save from De Gea off a pass from Firmino
Loveren has talked himself into the book after being called for a foul
Coming down to the end of the half. Twilight has really kept United in this one through three brilliant saves.
I've got a student coming in to meet with me in a moment, so I'll see you on the other side of the half.
Rash by Rashford on Moreno and booked for that. This ref should open a Hallmark franchise.
No stoppage time and it's 1-0 at the half top Liverpool
LVG with a substitution as Carrick is on for Rashford. A defensive change
The second half is underway
Moreno has a free kick deflected for a Pool corner. it's taken short
Coutinho is booked for diving
De Gea does well to tip over a long range pile driver from Coutinho
I'm back for a sec, mate. Looks like 1-0 might not be the worst result for you lot, if you can hang on.
I'm off home to see the end of this one. Cheerio for now.
Another ridiculous yellow as Hair is booked for minimal contact on Clyne near his corner flag
Cheers mate.Hope you can join me for the late action
A poor free kick from Coutinho is easily cleared
Joe Allen is on for Sturridge, presumably with the aim of Pool hanging on to their slender lead.
De Gea pushes away a long range swerving shot from Clyne
Joe Allen did well to pick out Jordan Henderson at the edge of the box. He was unmarked, but sliced the shot horribly wide.
Rojo is called for a high challenge on Moreno.
The free kick from Coutinho is headed out by Carrick then Rojo tackles Firmino for a Pool corner
Smalling heads out the corner from Lallana
Bugger !!!! Firmino puts Pool two up with a close range finish
Lallana found Henderson down the right and his poor cross was met with a horrible on e yard clearance from Carrick to Lallana, who squared it to Firmino , who finished from Two yards out with Smalling found out of position.
Joe Allen wins a Pool corner
A waste as a foul is called off the Pool corner
Herrera is on for Mata. Like for Like. The Pig Stick is on for Schneiderlin. That's also like for like
A standing ovation for Firmino as he's replaced by Origi
Carrick tackles Origi for a Pool corner
Loveren heads high and wide off a cross from Henderson
Two minutes of stoppage time
It's over as Pool defeat United 2-0 in a dominating performance
The final scores in the other matches were:
Villarreal 2 Leverkusen 0
Bilbao 1 Valencia 0
Sparta Prague 1 Lazio 1
That's it for me on a disappointing evening. I look forward ti chatting in a couple of days.
