Lakenheath Old Boys
We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Good morning, mate. I am delighted to join you for a cuppa. I have one brewing as I'm typing
I watched an episode about Palace and realized that Selhurst Park is filled by raucous, enthusiastic fans. As the players walk on the pitch , some 60s song that is the club song is being loudly sung by the fans. I can see where this is an intimidating place to play
They're off from Selhurst Park
Morning, MUR - I hope it's a strong one. I was up late last night with the missus, so I'm struggling.
The team news out of Selhurst Park:
Crystal Palace (4-3-3) McCarthy; Ward, Dann, Delaney, Souare; Jedinak, Cabaye, Ledley; Zaha, Adebayor, Bolasie.
Substitutes Speroni, Kelly, Lee, Mutch, Sako, Chamakh, Gayle.
Liverpool (4-2-3-1) Mignolet, Flanagan, Lovren, Sakho, Moreno; Henderson, Can; Milner, Firmino, Lallana; Origi.
Substitutes Ward, Toure, Clyne, Allen, Coutinho, Sturridge, Benteke.
Celtic is three up vs Morton Salt in the Scots Cup and look set to join Rangers and Dundee United in the semis.
Quite an attacking line-up for Palace and the usual modern European nonsense from Klopp's Pool.
I hope you have strong one too. I went to bed early because we had a non stop day, but I'm still tired. I will be delighted to start Spring Break next weekend.
Liverpool could still make it into Europe – they are eight points behind West Ham with two games in hand – but the Europa League, and their first European meeting with Manchester United, is a slightly bigger priority. This match? It is what it is: 15th versus ninth, a game of football, on a Sunday.
Any plans for the break, other than catching up on your rest?
A trip down memory lane for Bob as Hennesssey has been dropped or is injured and is replaced by Alex McCarthy. it seems that Connor Whickham has been dropped and is re[laced by Ade.
Milner wins a Pool corner.
I agree even though Pool are just a couple points behind the teams chasing an EL spot. I think Pool and United are playing on Sunday do their EL schedule rather than their placings. Neither match todau is a cl;assic
Oh - great break by Palace through Ade and Bolassie had a great chance but Minnie was brave, stopping at his feet.
Bolassie is down injured after leading a Palace counter and where Minnie superbly saved at his feet.
Correct mate. I am running on empty and need a week's worth of rest. Will you be on Spring Break after this week as well?
Great block by Souare's noggin then Henderson booked for a nasty foul on BVolassie on a Palace break
Oh - off the woodwork by Adebayor!!
Great near post save by Minnie from Ade. Palace is not looking like team that has been winless since Christmas.
OH!!!Off the bar from Ade then Scott Dann is booked for a foul on a Pool break
And now Handband Boy Scott Dann picks up a yellow for having a wrestling match.
These players are running faster than I can type.
We may not have been thrilled about watching this match, but it's been a really entertaining start
That's got to be counted as a miss for the big Togo striker.
Alan Pardew seems to be enjoying the match as much as we are
It has been - the Premiership rarely disappoints - there just doesn't seem to be a lot at stake here. Palace won't get relegated and Liverpool will likely get into Europe.
Are you excited that the MLS season is starting today?
His side has had a good start.
Palace is two wins from safety and it's 50-50 for Pool. They need to finish in 6th to make the EL., so it's not a given.
Ade wins a corner off of Sako
The corner from Cabaye is slightly overcooked , but Palace retain possession.. Now Pool counter.
Joe Ward clears for a Pool corner
Cabaye fouls Origi.
Those are fair points. The game has died down a bit.
OH!!! An audacious long range effort from Cabaye nearly catches out Minnie at his near post as it went off the side netting. That should waken anyone from their slumber
Cabaye sneaks in and fires just wide at the near post. They've had chances.
Those chances are coming because Pards has risked playing three up front. I hope that it's a trend that catches on.
Moreno fouls Zaha just outside the box. I'm not sure why he's protesting,
Free kick chance now for Palace as Zaha is chopped down.
Wasn't 4-3-3 popular back in the day?
A pure and utter as a foul is called as Cabaye lofts in the free kick
Origi with a bender - well over.
OH!!! Origi curls a shot inches over that nearly caught out the former LUFC loanee
Are you excited that MLS is starting today?
Well, I'm going to try to pay more attention, but it's difficult for me to follow more than I do presently.
Cabaye clips Firmmino just outside the Palace box.
The free kick from Milner deflects off the wall for a corner
Milner with the free kick, but strikes it into the wall. Poor.
The corner from Milner is eventually cleared.
Celtic have defeated Morton smelling salts 3-0 in the Scots Cup, joining Dundee United United and Rangers in the semis. The Tangerines are bottom of the Prem while Rangers are top of the Championship. The last quarter, which is Hibs vs Inverness Callie, has just kicked off.
I am following Orlando City because my family lives in the area and due to the fact that one brother is a season ticket holder and the other owns a few shares in the team.
COME ON YOU PURPLES!
Souare has a cross deflected for a corner.
Palace have had three shots on target, Liverpool have had bugger all.
The corner from Cabaye is headed out
Loveren clears for another corner.
Loveren heads out the corner from Cabaye,
Both teams have tried to attack. The final ball has been off and there has been some near misses. I think it's been a decent half.
A minute of stoppage time
Ward whips one in and Bolassie can't handle the touch.
Half-time, then. Even the commentator wants half-time. It hasn't been a classic. 0-0.
It's 0-0 at the end of a fairly even half. The closest to scoring was Ade with a shot off the bar for Palace.
I've had my half-time Weetabix, so we're back at it.
GOAL! Ledley rattles one in after some ping pongy action in the Pool box.
1-0 Palace!
Every time i watch a match from Selhurst Park, I'm struck by how dinky and lower-league a ground it is. Elland Road would be a much more suitable Premiership ground.
I'm back from dropping off Elizabeth to do grocery shopping and see that Palace lead 1-0
Yeah - a scrappy goal befitting this match. But Liverpool haven't had much of a response to it.
When Liverpool break forward, they just don't have enough outlets up front. Surely, Klopp can see that?
Flanagan off now for Coutinho. Still - is Klopp allergic to strikers? He's still got Benteke on the bench!
Oh dear - Jamie Milner is off!
Two yellows and Liverpool are down to ten men.
Palace fans haven't learned from the Cantona Kung Fu Kick incident of 20 years ago. They're giving Milner what for as he trudges off. But Jamie is the consummate pro and just walks past on the way to the dressing room. Good lad.
Oh - one of the best chances for Liverpool. Nice ball from Firmino to Lallana with the outside of his boot and Lallana got to the by-line. Origi couldn't get the final touch.
Cabaye off and Mutch on to shore things up - Pardew going for the 1-0 win now.
GOAL! Palace have gifted a goal back. McCarthy with a mega clanger!
1-1!
Origi off and Benteke on. Why did it take so long?
Oh - Benteke had an immediate chance but tamely side-footed it at McCarthy.
Every time "Soare" is mentioned I think that Luis Suarez has wandered back into the Prem.
Oh - Moreno hits the inside of the woodwork with his drive!
Almost into stoppage time here at Selhurst Park. Can either side still steal this one?
Oh - Benteke pulls a decent save out of McCarthy, who redeems himself somewhat for that massive slip.
Benteke goes to ground in the area, and....it's a penalty!!
94 minutes in and Liverpool have a chance to steal this one.
Delaney's knee just barely grazed Benteke's knee.
He'll take it himself....stutter step and in.
1-2!
Hello mate. A late penalty . What was Delkaney thinking with that challenge on Beneteke?
GOAL !!! BENETEKE WINS IT LATE FOR THE TEN MEN WITH A CHEEKY PENALTY SENDING MCCARTHY THE WRONG WAY
It's a big win for Liverpool and Pardew is livid.
Sorry for my absence, but I was trying to catch up with what I missed?
Palace will be devastated as they were leading 1-0 when Milner was sent off and end up losing 1-2 . They were beaten by last second penalty
A match with three preventable goals . Ledley gave Palace the lead off a corner where Pool were caught ball watching . After Milner was sent off, McCarthy gifted Pool and equalizer with a pass to Coutinho , who slotted it away. A late winner thanks to a last second penalty
With that win, Liverpool go above Stoke into 7th, now two points behind United in 6th. They're up next against WBA.
Pool are up to seventh while Palace remain a lowly fifteenth place and will be sucked into a relegation battle if they don't start picking up points.
Milner will not be available for a Prem match until April 2nd due to the international break and Pool not be inaction next weekend. He only has the EL matches vs United before April 2nd.
Hibs are one up vs Callie in the second half. If that result holds then Celtic will be joined by the teams placed 10th ,11th, and 12th in the Scots pyramid
They're off from the highest football league ground in England
It's 1-1 finished 1-1 between Hibs and Callie. I guess there will be a replay in the Scottish Highlands, presumably watched by Nessie
After taking care of the pets , I still see it's 0-0. It will be a stiff test for United. Dawson heads wide from a cross. A warning that United need to be in top form to get a victory.
The Sirs are in attendance: Bobby and SAF, at the site of his last match in charge of United , a 5-5 draw.
Blind stupidly concedes a free kick inches outside the United box. An unnecessary high kick on Berahino
The free kick from Dawson is karate chopped out for a corner.
De Gea easily catches the corner.
CRRICK CALLED FOR A HOLD ON rUNNED oN. uNITED CANNOT AFFORD TO CONCEDE CHEAP FREE KICKS against a team so adept at set pieces. United let off the hook as McAuley heads inches wide from the free kick . He was flagged offside. A very tight decision
Mata is stupidly booked for refusing to let United old boy, Fletch take a free kick
BLOODY HELL! Juan Mata is such a fucking moron. He stupidly is sent off for a second yellow as he fouled Fletch from behind. The former United player was going absolutely nowhere. LVG looked royally pissed.
The Baggies nearly score as Runned On knocked down a long free kick and Dawson volleyed inches wide.
Blind heads out for a Baggies corner
Blind heads out the corner, but the Baggies keep possession as De Gea MISJUDGES A CROSS FROM fLETCH and Runned On heads just over , but was flagged offside.
De Gea comfortably saves a long range volley from Sess off a chested pass from Berahino.
Craig Gardener goes down , looking for a free kick. Mike Dean is having none of it
Runned On has a shot blocked by Smalling for a CORNER.
Gardener has a shot blocked off a short corner.
Hiya, MUR - I'm back near half-time and see that it isn't going well for you lot yet. Mata off in a weekend of silly two yellow card events.
A minute of stoppage time.
Welcome back, mate. Yes, Mata let us down, but the Baggies have done little since the sending off.
A rare United corner. The corner from Blind is headed out and it's 0-0 at the half
That's half-time, then.
The main talking point is Mata being stupidly sent off for two bookings in the space of two and a half minutes. The Baggies have been the better team, but were more dangerous when it was 11 vs 11.
Boring
Useless
Hopeless
Clueless
Stupid
Good morning , UWS. Sorry to say, but expect more of the same in the second half.
The second half is underway.
Afternoon, UWS - right lads; I know you're depressed about that first half performance but there is still a match here to be won. Come on, United!
Rashford has a shot deflected for a corner off a run and pass from Kung Fu Panda
Oh - I thought that was going in from Rashford but just a corner won. And another. Good pressure from United here.
The corner from Blind is headed out for another
The next corner from Blind is also headed out
How's the week been, UWS?
And another....United racking up the corner stats here.
lingard wins a corner off of Gardener
The corner from Blind is headed away as United retain possession. They're also racking up the count on wasted opportunities.
Oh - decent effort here from Lingard. Not too far away. Good stuff from United here. The Baggies are really under the cosh.
OH!!! the closest United have come to scoring as Lingard cut in and his effort from just outside the boxes was inches over.
Craig Dawson is limping off and it's straight swap with another left back. Fairly predictable.
Pocognoli is on for Craig Dawson, who limps off. That's a left back for a center back.
I think Pocognoli is a little more attack minded and will provide more width.
Martial is upended by Olson on the edge of the box.
That was a horrible foul by Olsson as he illegally karate chopped his opponent in the D on a United break
Olsson was deservedly booked for that
Into the wall by Herrera and eventually cleared after some head tennis in the Baggies box.
OH Berahino shot just wide off a pass from Poconoli off pass from Fletch
Schneiderlin on for Herrera.
The ineffectual Herrera off for Morgan Schneiderlin. Not sure why you need another holding player at this point.
A picture of Mata in the media room, sulking.
Juan Mata looks very cozy up in the media room overlooking the Hawthorns.
I guess. LVG will be satisfied with a point given our numerical disadvantage.
Oh dear - Rondon has scored. Sorry, lads.
DAMN!!! RUNNED ON HAS GIVEN THE BAGGIES THE LEAD WITH A LEFT FOOTED FINISH
Rondon had the keys to the United box, no one near him. Time to take a touch and turn and shoot past Twilight.
1-0
PAthetic , useless defending from United, who cheaply conceded possession just outside their own box. Fletch passed to Berahino, who passed out wide to Pocognoli, who played a nice pass to Runned On into the box. He had plenty of time ti turn and pick his spot.
James McLean is on for Sess.
United will have to come back a man down and a goal down.
More shaky United defending as they look clueless.
You need a striker now, LVG - hurry!
United need to take some risks. If we're caught on the counter it really doesn't Mata as we're losing anyway
Here comes 3.14. But Don't bloody take Rashford off! He's the only one who's been bloody scoring of late!
United now down to nine as Lingard is off for treatment to a bloody nose for a bloody useless performance.
Memphis wins a free kick near the corner flag
The free kick is cleared by Olsson.
United's last league loss here was March 31, 1984 when they lost 2-0. Johnny Giles was in charge and Cyrille Regis was on the score sheet,
The Baggies scorer has runned off not runned on.
Damian off and some bloke who I've never heard of comes on. Is he a striker?
Fosu-Mensah is on for Darmian, who didn't impress yours truly today
Nope - he's a bloody right back! What on earth is LVG playing at?
He made his debut as a sub vs the Gunners last Sunday and started vs Watford in midweek.
Not sure why that was a foul throw, do you know?
WTF!!!! even I could see that it was a foul throw by Pi are not squared.
Any real point to changing right backs at this point when you lot need a goal?
Not sure, mate.
Not really. Do we have any other strikers on the bench.
What made it a foul throw? He didn't step over the line and seemed to have the ball back over his head.
I'm sure LVG will throw Mata under the bus if we lose.
If the Gunners defeat the Tigers on Tuesday then the Baggies next match is in a fortnight then off for another fortnight due to the international break
You've got Hair Bear on the bench - even he would be more of a Route One threat at this point, right?
I didn't think Memphis had his arms behind head. It could be the angle from where I'm sitting.
Snadro on for Berahino to plug any gaps. I get that one.
Agreed unless Hair Bear is in the doghouse.
I disagree with Jon Champion. Forty points is not needed for survival. Thirty seven or thirty eight should be plenty and the Baggies have already reached that total.
Four minutes of stoppage time.
Kung Fu Panda in an illegal martial arts position.
United playing more like the tortoise than the hare.
Sorry, lads - that's it. A big blow for United's Champion's League hopes. They stay stuck in 6th behind West Ham and Citeh.
It's over and United suffer a disappointing 1-0 defeat at the Hawthorns
The Baggies MOTM must surely be Juan Mata
It was a less than inspiring day in the Premiership, MUR. But thanks for sharing it with me nonetheless.
Cheers mate. I agree, but it was great chatting with you.
