Bring on the 5th Round!
Morning, chaps - I couldn't be more excited about the day's matches. We get started in a few minutes with the holders Arsenal against Hull. Then at 10am, my eyes will be on Watford v. Leeds, but there is also Reading v. WBA. We finish up at 12:15 with Bournemouth v. Everton. Join me for all the Cup banter here on the LOB.

Oh dear - it's definitely the B-Team on Fox this morning, with some Scots git compering alongside Warren Barton and Thomas Hitzelsperger. Why?
As expected, both sides are fielding slightly weakened first elevens this afternoon. Arsenal have Barca on Tuesday; what's Hull's excuse?
Arsenal (4-2-3-1) Ospina; Chambers, Mertesacker, Koscielny, Gibbs; Flamini, Elneny, Campbell, Iwobi, Welbeck, Walcott.
Subs: Macey, Bellerin, Monreal, Coquelin, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Alexis, Giroud.
Hull City (3-5-2) Jakupovic; Davies, Maguire, Bruce; Taylor, Elmohamady, Meyler, Maloney, Tymon; Powell, Diomande.
Subs: Kuciak, Huddlestone, Hernandez, Diame, Aluko, Robertson, Odubajo
Good morning , mate. I'm here to join you for the Fifth Round of the Cup. I'm as confused as you regarding Fox's choice of supposed analysts.
With a few exceptions, those are decent lineups considering the Gunners face Barca on Tuesday
The majority of Championship teams are in league action where Evil Cardiff vs the Seagulls kicked off a few minutes ago
Teams coming out at the Emirates now...
Welcome, MUR - thanks for joining me. How's your week been?
The Gunners and Tigers are meeting for the third consecutive season. The Gunners came from tow down to win in the final; two years ago and won 2-0 at the EM in the Third Round last year. I guess all roads to the trophy go through Brucey's lads.
Thanks Bob.I'm glad to have the pleasure of your company. It's been a stressful week other than my day off. How was your week?
They're off from the EM
Tony Jones and Gary O'Reilly on the mic today - never even heard of 'em. Fox are having a laugh today!
I've heard of Gary O'Reilly . I think he played for the SPuds during our blackout years.
YIKES! Evil Cardiff are two up vs the Seagulls inside twenty minutes.
Flamini wins a corner off a nice slide rules pass from El Neny.
Great save from Jakupovic from El Neny off a corner from the training ground
Elneny has started as if he's on fire. Could easily have been a penalty there with a handball from Wee Brucie.
Theo wins a corner off of Meyler.
A flat corner from Campbell is cleared away
Did you notice that I had activity on the LOB last night?
Who do you think are favorites for the Cup now? My money is on Chelski this season.
I did see that and I responded. I really appreciate your exhaustive explanation of the rules for me.
Great turn and cross from Theo , but Wellie heads straight to Jakupovic despite having a free header in the six yard box. I'm familiar with that
Glad to help. It is an unusual case. I did a decent jobs on the regional accents, which was difficult because some of them are very similar.
All Arsenal pressure so far; a rear guard action from Hull.
I caN HEAR bRUCEY SHOUTING IN HIS TECHNINCAL AREA.
Oh - great move there from Arsenal, from Elneny to Chambers with a slide rule pass to Theo. Made the keeper work.
Oh - it's shooting practice for the Gunners. Iwobi with a bender that just doesn't bend enough into the corner.
Just wide by Iwobe after the corner was cleared
It's like a training session
I'd be shouting too; his side is playing far too deep. Whenever the ball is cleared out, it just comes back again. There's no holding play at all going on for the Tigers.
Evil Cardiff is three up vs the Seagulls just over half hour into the match
Agreed. Now I see why they were relegated last season.
Wellie leads a counter and finds Theo, but it's cleared away
But they're top of the pops in the Championship. They should be better than this!
Gary O'Reilly has been spying in on Bob's remarks about the Tigers playing too deep. No wonder why he's on Fox. He needs to be more alert.
That's true. It could be the match tactics. I imagine they are more attack minded in league matches.
Ever heard of Gary O'Reilly before? Presumably he was a player at some point.
I read that the FA may do away with replays starting next season. That would be absolutely horrible. Arsene is against it as I'm sure are all LOBers
Yes. He played for the Spuds and I think Watford from the mid 80s to the early naughties.
Half way through the first half; Hull have stymied the Gunners so far.
Will the Gunners play like the Tigers when they face Barca?
Another sweeping move is snuffed out.
Great near post save by Jakupovic from Theo off a pass from Chambers
Young Brucey was turned too easily.,
Probably - I can't see them having any possession at all against Barca.
First real chance for Hull. Maguire went down a bit too easily and Mike Dean booked him for simulation. There was some contact but he went too ground too easily.
Maguire is booked for diving off a challenge from Campbell. He was looking for a penalty on a rare attack off a free kick.
He was signed from a Not Very Big Club , so I'm not surprised with that disgraceful behavior.
And now it's Sean Maloney into the book for a rugged one on Theo.
Now Sean Maloney is booked for a foul from behind on Theo.
They teach that kind of thing in Sheffield, don't they?
Another free kick for the Tigers> Kos heads in the free kick whipped in by Sean Maloney
Maguire heads wide from the Tigers first corner of the match
I hear they do teach those things in the Steel City. Is that fact or fiction?
Now Wellie goes down in the box. Not a card for diving there. How's that for consistency from Jimmy Dean?
Mick Phelan and Stephen Clemence assisting Brucey
Kos is booked for a foul on Diamande on a Tigers break.
Koz gets a yellow for a cynical foul on Diamonde. Close to a red as he was nearly the last man back.
After having frustrated Arsenal for forty minutes, Hull are closely coming into this match. They're best chance is on set pieces.
I just saw that the Hornets vs the Whites is on FS Plus , so we would need to watch that on a link. Poor by Fox as Pulis's boring side at the Reading Railroad surely is not a better match.
Agreed, mate. Gooners will be feeling frustrated at the half.
Into stoppage time at the EM . One minute
It's 0-0 at the half as the Tigers have successfully frustrated the Gunners
That's half-time, then. No joy yet for the home side. Hull have set about their task doggedly.
0-0 at HT.
Evil Cardiff are three up vs the Seagulls at the half.
Hey Boys
I have been up and about for the first half but not being able to watch much of the match so far.
Hull will be pleased to be nil nil but they need to get forward more
Good morning UWS. Great to have you on board
As for the penalty discussion from the other post,
It is legal if the man stays outside of the box before the kick. Not even sure if the ball needs to go forward
I HATE IT BY THE WAY
The next two matches are on FS 2 as are both televised matches tomorrow.
Yes. A penalty kick does need to go forward. I remember that being discussed during a refereeing course.
The second half is underway from the EM.
The Seagulls get a goal back but still behind 3-1 after an awful opening 30 minutes in Cardiff
Second half underway at the Em in the Em FA Cup
Gooners will not be pleased that Jimmy Dean did not award the Gunners a penalty for hand ball on Young Brucey.
Fox have their priority on the Daytona 500
Great reflex save by Jakupovic from Theo off some nice one touch passing from the Gunners
We're back on at the Em and Arsenal are right at it, Theo pulling a great save out of Jakupovic.
Pathetic Fox.
Morning, UWS - how are you mate?
Not sure when these replays will happen. League games will have to e cancelled
This midweek is CL matches and no other match anywhere can be played... or at least televised. A Scottish Cup tie played midweek but had no tv there.
Next week is a full slate of matches
The Arse host the Swans
Next weekend is the League Cup Final...Liverpool host City three days later
Thank you for that comment, UWS. Even if it's legal - and I think Suarez is a mile inside the box - I hate it, too. I'd like to ban the Panenka, the stutter step ones and anything but just step up and hit a penalty like a normal person.
I'm bummed... I have to go back to work in two days after a week off... HORRIBLE FEELING
Fatty Huddlestone about to be unleashed by Brucie.
You will be fine, UWS. The rest will give you a chance to recharge your battery.
I agree with you 100% except as the ball is kicked Suarez was not in the box... well, it was really close. It is the same as Suarez netting the rebound
Not enough.. my little darlings have drained everything out of me. They don't care, they are rude, they are disrespectful and the apple doesn't fall far from the tree
Look again - he's a mile inside but he's anticipating what Messi going to do. That's why he's first to the ball.
Arsenal going for three in a row
Has it ever been done?
Research time
The Gunners have a shot deflected for a corner. El Neny has a shot headed out. Was that a penalty as Meyhler appeared to trip Chambers
Sounds like the parents need sorting out.
Yes. It was last done by Blackburn in the 1880s.
Oh - great save by Jakupovic from Campbell's free kick.
Wanders won in 1876, 1877 and 1888
Blackburn Rovers won in 1884, 85 and 86
That's it
OH!!!! Jakupovic turns a swerving free kick on to the post then the rebound is well over.
Speaking of Cup winners
Saw this question
From 1980... name the six clubs that have only won the Cup once
Well done, Statto!
No cheating
Coventry City?
Fatty is on for Ryan Taylor and sixteen year old Josh Tymon can be proud of a creditable performance at left back as he's replaced.
Cardiff score a fourth
This could easily go to a replay now. Not good for the Gunners. They need to push this one aside pronto.
Chambers is booked for wrestling Meyhler.
That's one
Got my SS link going strong
As eagle eyed UWS stated, I'm not sure when a replay would occur as both teams have midweek matches one week or another
How about Wimbledon and Cardiff City?
They would have to cancel the match v Swansea because the Cup in the following weekend
The Saints?
Wimbledon?
Wimbledon is 2
Cardiff lost in the Cup Final
No with Sotton
I forgot about the Tractor Boys.
1 Coventry
2 Wimbledon
3?
4?
5?
6?
Nope 1978
Didn't Cardiff win the Cup in the 1920s?
Leeds? Not sure we've won it more than just 1972.
The question was from 1980
We've lost a load of finals, though. 1970, 1973, etc.
BOY... neither of you read the damn question!!
Sorry - how about QPR?
Sorry . I misread the question.
BTW, I think Leeds have only won it once
How about Pompey?
We're like a pair of your students, eh UWS?
nope
Lost to Spurs in 82... in a replay... that we listened to on the way home from a match
Also Citeh.
Liverpool?
Exactly my thought BD
#3 Pompey
#4 Citeh
Another great save from the Hull keeper
Ah - Jakupovic bails out Hull again. Welly thought he had scored!
Jakupovic superbly turns around a deflected long range effort from Wellie.
Alexis Sanchez and Olivier Giroud are being readied.
My students are like that too. I'm always having to tell them what it means to follow and read basic directions.
If there is any type of reading, my students say... "i don't know what to do"
How about the Hammers who won it in 1980?
You're missing two
Far apart in time
Not in the alphabet
That's number five
The Ammers, the Irons
I always say sorry . I can't help you .Do the best you can
All hands to the pump for Hull City now.
Gibbs wins a corner off of El Mohammedy
Giroud is on for Campbell as the last thing the Gunners need is a replay. Alexis is on for Wellie. Arsene really wants to win this.
Why did FOX pick Reading/ WBA?
Cup upset?
No difference of Watford/ Leeds except the home team being from the Champ
Everton?
Nope 84 and 95
A photo op as elizabeth catches Fred watching the match. Is he thinking of what might have been as his team lost here in the Third Round.,
I agree, mate. Should've been the match from Vicarage Road on Fox. That's just anti-Leeds prejudice. We're are the Unforgiven!
Adubaio tackles El Neny for a corner.
The match from Vicarage Road is on Plus, which none of us get
First chance for Giroud, but the final shot was straight at Alexis the keeper.
How could I forget? The last one is Wigan
Again, audio commentary is on Talksport from the British Radio app
Elizabeth is going to post a picture on FB of Fred watching the match.
The final roll of the dice from Arsene as the Ox is on for Iwobe. He's brought on the big Guns.
Thanks for mentioning that, lads. I just checked the listings and it's on "Fox Deportes," which I do get.
Good chance to brush up on my Espanol
Or I might do the images of Deportes and the commentary from TalkSport.
I feel your pain, UWS. I will be retiring in three years and can't wait . I'm feeling burnt out , so I completely sympathize with you.
I just texted you the app to get
5Live is blacked out but not Talksport
Talksport has the CL blacked out but nothing else
I like to listen to Andy Goldstein and Jason Cundy at 5 pm my time on week nights... Goldstein is a United fan and Cundy is a Chelsea fan.. he played for them
I'm not sure if I get Deportes. I think that's on a different package than ours.
Missed you getting Wigan
Well done... all six
There's only two Goldstein United fans. Two Goldstein United fans. There's only two Goldstein United fans.
I think I have five years to go
I am thinking of taking remedial math starting next year
It is not as easy as it used to be but it was where teachers went out to pasture.
All the kids won't want to be there but i wouldn't have 120 kids
Got it, thanks mate!
Talksport commentary for some reason is actually slightly behind in time. I have seen a goal on the TV and then saw it go in around 30 seconds later
Sone Aluko is on for Nick Powell, who never made it with United.
I will be going for walkies after this match and be listening to the build up for Leeds on my phone
I usually get back just after kick off
Will we see a goal in the next 11 minutes
Remedial math is not offered in Texas, so I don't have that option. I will be hosting a retirement party in three years and a burning of the mortgage party in two years, so all LOBers will need to start saving up. I expect Bob, the Gooner , and UWS present at both events.
Did you see Powell's comment this week
Didn't even know United were playing on Thursday.
He was playing FIFA
He shouldn't really say things like that...he's still on loan
I remember his goal at Wembley for Crewe and looked like a real star... what a fall
Sounds like a plan.
Yikes... that is a challenge
It keeps changing in our district
It was remedial math, math workshop, co-teaching... who knows what it will be but it has to be easier than 5 classes of numpties
Cheers UWS. Have fun. Both managers will want a goal because neither team needs a replay as they want to avoid fixture congestion.
If anything, the pace has dropped since The Ox came on.
Agreed, UWS. I'm going hvae six classes of numpties, ninety minutes each. Fortunately, I see them every other day .
Let's have a replay to serve both managers for not putting their BEST team out and try and win the game
All this resting players is pants!
Teams of yesteryear used to play all these games on crappy pitches too
These days the game is faster but the players are fitter and their playing on carpets
Cardiff won 4-1
disgraceful by Nick Powell. I thought he would be the next Scholsey when he joined from Crewe. He's been bloody useless.
Of course LVG hasn't helped
When did he bring him on as a striker this season when we needed a goal?
Agreed. It may teach them a lesson, but Arsene will say that his players wouldn't be rested for the match vs Barca.
Oh - that was the big chance for Hull. Straight at Ospina!
Isn't Nick Poweell a midfield player in the supposed Scholes mold.
Yup... that's LVG for you
HOW IS STILL IN THE JOB!!
OH!!!! A big miss by the Ox as Giroud headed down a cross from Theo and Ox volleyed well wide.
That's another example of how poor this coverage is. It's clear that these two numpties are nowhere near the Emirates. They're watching on a monitor and reacting well after the incident. The crowd noise is too muted as well.
They have THREE DAYS REST!
Citeh is staying the same thing for their match tomorrow and Wednesday
Same as Sat and Tues
I'm not sure. I was disappointed to read that Jose signed a pre contract with United. Sigh!
If anything, Hull are pushing harder for the win now. Neither side really wants a replay.
This is what the WC will be in Russia
BLOODY FOX
Agreed, Bob. Fox is a sick joke.
Agreed, UWS. They have no excuses. It was three days rest in the good old days. Also agree that it will be frustrating wtaching the WC
I have never been a Jose fan but again... ANYONE is an improvement over LVG
Even Bob... who would sell all of our players to Elland Road for basket of eggs... maybe not.. they all suck
Yikes! Jakupovic is not even the first choice keeper. Alan McGregor has sixteen shutouts in the Championship.
Last minute free kick to the Arse...just like Leicester... same result?
Alexis picks up a vital free kick inside the D. Brucie into the book.
Four minutes of stoppage time as Alexis wins a free kick in the D
Stupid foul again from the modern day footballer
This will be a shot not a cross
Saved... simple really
Good position and distance for Alexis here....
Well saved by Jacupovic.
Jakupovic fists out the swweerving free kick from Alexis. Fatty somehow clears the corner for another . The next corner is cleared
4 added minutes
