Will the Title Contenders Please Stand Up!

Does anyone really want to win the title this season? That's the question that's on everyone's mind after those crazy mid-week results that left Leicester three points clear of Spurs and six points clear of Arsenal. The North Londoners play each other early doors this morning in what should be the turning point of the season. A win for either side puts pressure on the Foxes, especially if they were to slip up at Watford later on in the day. But a hard-fought draw brings them closer to that miracle title. Can't wait to watch it all with you lads.

Good morning, Bob. I won't be around for most of the North London Derby because Melanie has an early competition immediately followed by the SAT test. I will be around for the other matches.

Morning, MUR - great to have you on board this morning. Some pundits are calling this the most important North London Derby ever. Appropriately, I'm having some glitchy satellite trouble with NBC SN this morning (sigh)....

7:32 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Welcome, mate. I hope the problem is solved. Fortunately, we are not having any problems. I'm not sure if it's the most important North London Derby ever, but probably the most important one since back in '71.

I just rebooted and seem to have sorted it out. All set for the 178th running of the North Londoners.

Well in. A fantastic reward. I just finished a mug of the McDonald's brand coffee.

7:42 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I guess Ospina is injured since Macey is on the bench. Will he be the keeper in the replay at the KC on Tuesday?

Spurs seem to be champing at the bit early doors.

The Spuds look the more confident team early doors.

Dell Alli almost got a shot off directly from a throw, but Merte intervened with a last ditch tackle.

That is unfortunate.

A poor Spuds corner is cleared by the first man

Kane with the first shot on goal, a tame curling effort that will give Ospina a chance to touch the ball.

Burnley take an early lead vs Blackburn in a Lancashire Derby

7:50 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

It's a sign of the times that both sides are playing two defensive middies and only one striker up front. Kane even seems a bit pushed out left as he shoots again.

7:51 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Harry Kane has a long range effort deflected for a corner off some shaky Gunners defending

7:51 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Kane again, with a deflected shot that earns him a corner. He seems keen to strike it from any distance or angle.

7:51 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Another corner - Spurs have started impressively. I don't like it.

I'm off, mate. The match is being DVRed. I will see probably in the second half.

7:55 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Spurs will be much happier with their start, although Arsenal will be content that Ospina hasn’t had any difficult saves to make.

7:56 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Cheerio, mate - best of luck to Melanie!

7:56 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

As usual, Arsenal are trying to walk it into the net.

8:03 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

It’s a slightly odd game so far, in that Spurs have been so much better yet they haven’t created a clear chance, or even an unclear one.

8:08 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Oh - great save from Ospina there from Lamella's shinned effort!

8:11 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Bellerin is booked for a foul on Rose. It’s a free-kick in a good position on the left, and Eriksen wastes it again by hammering it straight into Ospina’s hands.

8:13 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Coq au Vin picks up a yellow for a deliberate handball on the ground.

8:14 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Half an hour gone and for all the storm and stress, that Lamella shinned effort has been the best chance of the match so far.

8:18 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Glenn Hoddle, one of the BT commentators, reckons Lamela is a red-card candidate. Just passing it on.

8:18 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Spurs are incessant in their attacking. They have so much energy. In fact it’s reminiscent of Arsenal in the early days under Arsene Wenger, when they had more energy than their opponents by virtue of the fact they weren’t having steak and pints for lunch and dinner every day.

8:19 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

GOAL! Ramsey has scored a huge goal for the Gunner! Huge!

8:23 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Welly squared it to Bellerin who shanked his shot. Fortunately for him and the Gunners Ramsey was alert and his back flick completed baffled Lloris.

0-1 Gunners!

8:24 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Now it's Welly with a header, saved by Lloris. Arsenal are going for it!

8:27 AM

8:48 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

They just said that there were a lot of tackles in the first half
I was paying attention, for some reason, and the first foul called was after 8 minutes. Spurs first foul was in the the 25th minute. At that time, it said Spurs 1 Arsenal 3 in fouls

8:49 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Kyle Walker with a crap cross... that has been a theme for both Spurs fullbacks... pretty much everyone except for the Ali chance

Morning, UWS - great to have you on board for the second half.

8:56 AM

Hi Bob,
You seemed to have disappeared as soon as I arrived!

8:57 AM

Hello UWS. I'm back in time for the drama at the Lane as Della Alli volleys just wide then Harry Kane has a shot cleared off the line off the corner. Superb save by Ospina from Kane

8:58 AM

WOW!!!! The Spuds were a millimeter away from eqaalizing as Ospina is down for treatment

8:59 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Was that off the line?

Ospina falls over ala LVG

He was hit in the ghoolies

That was so close!!

I hope he does too, UWS. We need his goals this summer.

9:06 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

a SUPERB CURLING EFFORT FROM hARRY kANE , BUT DEFINITELY preventable as Wimmer played an innocuous ball down the left.. Merte should have cleared by his own corner flag, but instead , Della Alli back heeled the ball as it appeared to run out of play . He passed to Kane , who was Abel to score with that fantastic finish

9:06 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Spurs are rampant!!

9:17 AM

He scuffed that shot a bit but it still beat Lloris. What drama!

9:17 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Ramsey played Bellerin down the right and he played a nice slide rule pass into Alexis , who placed it well in the corner, but Lloris should have got a hand to the shot.

9:18 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Rose off and Davies on for the Spurs.

9:19 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Will anyone kick out Desmond from the Lane

9:19 AM

Why have Lee Dixon doing the color for this match - it makes no sense at all.

9:20 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Lee Dixon wants to see red - naturally.

9:20 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Dixon wants a second yellow for Dier

9:20 AM

I'll bet Dixon is wearing red down to his socks and undies today, just like the Gooner.

9:26 AM

We struggle against the teams we should beat
Watford midweek as an example. United should have lost that one 4-1
