FA Cup Sunday
Morning, lads - if yesterday's action wasn't enough for you, we've got another day of Cup football on offer today. I'm going to have a lie-in through the first one, but I'll be around for the intriguing match-up of Liverpool v. Plymouth Argyle. That overlaps with Chelski v. Peterboro at 10am. And then we have the late one at 11am between Spurs and Villa. Join me for the Sunday action, won't you?

The teams in the tunnel at Anfield now:
Liverpool (4-3-3) Karius; Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Lucas, Moreno; Stewart, Can, Ejaria; Ojo, Woodburn, Origi.
Substitutes: Mignolet, Klavan, Clyne, Wijnaldum, Lallana, Firmino, Sturridge.
Plymouth McCormick; Miller, Songo’o, Bradley, Purrington; Threlkeld, Fox; Carey; Jervis, Garita, Slew.
Substitutes: Bulviss, Smith, Goodwillie, Osborne, Rooney, Borel, Tanner.
It's an experimental Liverpool side for Klopp today, with an average age of 21. Lots of unfamiliar names in it.
Good morning, Bob. Ready for some more Third Round action on another cool morning.
Agreed. It's a reserve team. Sorry to say that they will probably still defeat your Argyle Sweater,
Paul Tierney gets us underway from Anfield
Liverpool get us underway - both sides playing in their traditional colors, thankfully.
Good morning, MUR - I'm still feeling my snow shoveling efforts from yesterday. I was out there for two hours yesterday afternoon, shoveling our drive and helping a couple of neighbors with theirs.
It's the under 23 side with a few odd regulars thrown in. The announcer said it's Pool's youngest team to start a first team match. How do they keep track of that
Argyle clear after blocking a couple of shots off a Pool corner.
Sorry to hear that. Wishing you a speedy recovery and hopefully a warming trend in WNY
Lovely ball from Lucas to Ojo there; he just couldn't get on to it.
All Pool's subs are regulars , so they have reinforcements . I guess the other regulars have baker's dozen days off.
I'll be alright; a bit of Advil and a cuppa will do me right today.
Jervis looks to be the danger man for Argyle - bags of speed up front.
Ejaria is jarred and Pool have a free kick. Actually, a mini clip
The free kick from Woodburn is headed out by Songoo, then finally out of play to the delight of the travelling supporters of which a good number have traveled.
No Dahlgren curse while getting some morning coffee.
Argyle have done well so far; they haven't been overawed and overrun as Reading did with you lot. No real chances for Pool as of yet.
Good to hear, mate. It may or may not just plague me, I don't know.
Threlkeld tackle Ejaria for a Pool corner.
Carey fouls Stewart off the corner near the D
Liverpool earn a free kick just outside the D. Moreno and Can in attendance. Can rifles it into the wall.
Oh - and then Ojo misses a great headed chance there when the ball comes back in. Poor on his part.
The free kick from Can is off the wall then is up in the air and Ojo has a good chance , but miss kicks straight to McCCormick from a few yards out
Agreed. I think Argyle have a chance because Pool is basically playing a U-23 side. We played nearly a full strength side. Still, credit to Argyle for a great start , considering they're two divisions below Jaap's Chaps.
OH!!!! Pool's best chance as McCormick makes a close range block from Andy Woodburn.
A quiz question, mate. Sutton United's record crowd was against which team . When ? What was the result?
Songoo heads out a cross from Can for a corner. Can heads on the corner from Moreno , but it's cleared.
I'm guessing United, as I seem to remember a Cup fixture between you two. Let's say 15K at home to United in the Cup 3rd Round in 1992. Am I close?
Origi has the ball in the net but he's flagged for mauling the Argyle defender.
Origi has a goal disallowed. It looked a clear push. He nearly rugby tackled Gary Miller. Good decision by Paul Tierney.
Close on the attendance , but think more your team and much earlier.
WOW !!! Pool have 82% possession. Eventually, Argyle will tire if they don't get more possession and Pool have a loaded bench.
Woodburn runs the ball out of play after Origi took down a cross from Moreno. Argyle look like they're starting to tire.
Sonny Bradley blocks a long range rocket from Stewart
The Fourth Round draw is tomorrow at 1210. I will be teaching at that time.
An unusually sunny January day in Merseyside. Luke McCormick forgot his baseball cap.
McCormick does well to gather among a lot of feet in the six yard box as Alexander Arnold got in a good pass
Half an hour in and you'd have to say that Argyle have done a nice job reducing Pool's chances to mostly long range efforts.
I don't remember ever playing Sutton United - did we?
The Cottagers won 1-2 in the Welsh capital with Kate getting a late winner.
Oh - Ojo worked his way into a great position but his shot was deflected out for a corner.
I saw that - Kate will be delighted.
You sure did. Their record crowd was 14,000 against none other than your beloved Leeds in the Fourth Round of the 1970 FA Cup. Leeds scored half a dozen without reply with Sniffer getting four of those and Peter Lorimer the other two.
I'll be at work tomorrow but I'm hoping to be able to get a look at the match.
Ah - before my time in England. We got to the UK in 1972 and my knowledge of Leeds history before that time is still pretty rusty. We went on to lose to Chelski in a replay that year.
That was a really dumb foul by Threlkeld on Ojo. It would be a shame to concede a goal after all that great work
Into the wall by Origi , but Pool maintain possession.
I read about that. I think the winning goal was from a long throw and that was their first time winning the FA Cup.
Argyle brought a good number of fans for the trek to Anfield.
Pool win their eighth corner, which apparently is not enough
Total dominance from Pool, with 86% possession. Argyle haven't gotten over the half-way line in ages. They're clearly playing for a replay down at their patch.
Can And Sonny Bradley are lectured for pushing. The corner from Ojo is headed away by Bradley and hoofed by Mariah Carey.
Karius gets a touch to keep him awake. He could be down the pub enjoying a pint.
Those are San Marino type numbers. It will be a challenge to sustain this.
Sonny Bradley appears to have dozed off in the tattoo artist's chair and woken up three days later with a full neck work.
Agreed. It wouldn't make a difference. Karius shouldn't even get paid today.
A great description of a modern footballer.
The announcer says possession without penetration. I would never want to hear that from Elizabeth.
Into stoppage time as Moreno put in a great cross, but McCormick punched away under pressure then ping pong in the Argyle box.
A rare Argyle attack as they win a free kick by the Pool flag. The free kick from Carey is headed away and it's 0-0 at the half.
Sorry boys... had a bit of a lazy morning today
Turned on the tv as the half time whistle goes
Teams coming out for the second half
Good morning, UWS. You did not really miss much. A resolute Argyle performance so far
The second half is underway
Chelsea vs Posh kicks off on FS2 in about 25 minutes.
What will Argyle do if Pool score? do they have a plan B?
Welcome, UWS - I'm back for the second half now. Liverpool have been bloody toothless so far. Klopp may be forced to go to his bench ahead of that League Cup fixture.
I might turn over to the Chelski match if this one doesn't improve.
Argyle counter and Songo'o wins a free kick. Poor challenge by Stewart
They are off and start talking about possession
IT DOESN'T MEAN ANYTHING!!!!
Not necessarily this match but possession is very misleading. I don't know how they calculate it. Does possession go up when your keeper wastes time taking goal kicks?
I read a stat yesterday... United 45% Reading 55%.....SERIOUSLY!!!
Some rare work for Karius as it's catching practice from the free kick.
Very well stated, UWS. I think the answer to your question is yes.
Argyle's first shot of the match is from Songo'o , which threatens the corner flag more than anything else.
Pool win a corner and it's a complete waste as Paul Tierney whistles for a Pool foul.
Another meaningless stat is number of corners. Pool are in double figures ,, but have done naught with them.
Decent move there with Woodburn doing well on the left but Ojo just isn't a good enough target man on the end of these chances.
Pool's first decent cross of the match as Ojo heads wide off a cross from seventeen year old , Woodburn
You're absolutely right about possession stats, mate. Argyle have come to play for a draw and are happy conceding possession.
Another foul by Stewart that is again really Stewpid
A rare free kick for Argyle produces their first shot on goal. Carey wakes up Karius with a long range effort.
Argyle's first shot on target as a long range free kick from Carey is straight to Karius.
Pool are only 2-1 ahead on shots on target despite all the corners and possession.
Songo'o blocks a shot from Stewart
A long range effort from Lucas forces a decent save from McCormick
Lucas with a long distance effort. Well collected by McCormick.
I know this is the kiss of death but wouldn't it be great for Liverpool to have to go have a replay
Of course, MUR won't think that... the huge United fan picked Liverpool for the title... blaspheme
Sturridge is being prepared to come on.
Can has a shot blocked for a corner off a run and pass from young Woodburn
LOL! Nice one, UWS.
I did pick United to win the EFL Cup. does that count?
Sonny Bradley clears the corner from Moreno. Lucas heads over from a cross off the throw.
Can troops off - a nice positive move from Klopp.
An attacking move from Klopp as Sturridge is on for Can.
I always pick United over my PPP picks.
OH!!! Just wide by Sturridge as Pool countered off a rare Argyle attack.
Songo'o , who has had an excellent match , is replaced by Tanner.
Craig Tanner comes on and immediately makes an impression on the match.
The teams are coming out of the tunnel at SB in case anyone wants to switch to FS2.
Tanner going for glory minutes after coming on as a sub.
Ian St. John, showing his age, looks really bored and really cold.
I'm giving the PIP button a try with the two matches.
Over to Stamford Bridge then.
Stewart wins a free kick just outside the Argyle box. The free kick from Moreno is headed away
They're off from SB as JT makes a rare appearance this season.
Well done, Bob. I'm doing the same, with the match at SB as the main match. it should be similar to the match at Anfield.
An Argyle player is going off on a stretcher.
A fairly strong Chelski side, given the opponents, with Begovic, Zouma, Chalobah and Loftus-Cheek rotated in and Kante, Hazard and Costa getting a rest on the bench.
Surely Chelski will have the quality to break down the L1 side.
The Posh keeper makes a near post save from Cahill from Chelsea's first corner.
Meanwhile, Klopp had his final rolls of the dice bringing on Lallan for Ejaria and Firmino for Woodburn ads Pool have a few regulars in the side now.
Agreed, Bob. It's a decent Chelsea lineup. They may not have regulars, but it's a decent lineup.
As we praised Chelsea , the Posh nearly took a surprise lead as Angol had a close range effort blocked by Begovic off a cross from Madison.
Posh seem to be going for it as they attack again and Madison shoot well wide.
Ruben Loftus-Cheeky has a shot blocked for a Chelsea corner. The corner is headed out for another.
The corner leads to another.
McGee, in the posh goal , saves a powerful shot from JT
Sturridge nearly gave Pool the lead with a header that skimmed off the top of the net.
This is a much better match already than the one at Anfield. They're still locked at 0-0 in the 84th minute. Your lot and all the other teams in the top six must be delighted.
Cahill tackles Tom Nichols for a Posh corner. A free header from the corner, but headed well wide.
I am back after doing stuff around the house
COME ON PLYMOUTH!!
BTW, picking United for EFL means NOWT
Yes. A replay was not on the menu for Jurgen and his lads.
I always cheer for United ahead of my PPP picks. I wold rather United win a title ahead of me winning the PPP at any time./
Have the best of both worlds and pick them to win!
I have to
I do the same thing, MUR - I never pick Leeds to do anything, as I really would like to win the Shield back.
Please have Plymouth hold on...they deserve a replay
I hope you are right. I really do, but I'm thinking next season is moire realistic.
GOAL !!! PEDRO GIVES CHELSEA THE LEAD.
GOAL! Chelski lead through Pedro in the 18th minute.
Has anything major happened this half? I still think the ref will add a lot of minutes to give Liverpool time
I called it... 6 minutes... what happened this half to make it 6 minutes
It is just cheating for the big clubs...again..I am starting to move to the side of an official clock
It was a great team goal as Fab won a tackle at the back. Willian went on a solo run and passed to Loftus-Cheek, who passed to Chalobah. His long range effort was parried by McGee and Pedro scored with a great finish from the rebound.
I used to be so dead against it but now it is just getting ridiculous
Nothing much at all, mate. Liverpool have been really poor compared with United who obviously came right out and wanted to win that match from the off.
Something just happened at SB , but not at Anfield.
Do you know if something happened in this half for the six minutes?
Posh are trying to push things a bit looking for an equalizer.
I don't think it did - I don't know where those six minutes came from.
Where on earth did the 6 minutes come from... no one is making a big deal about it either
Back in 93, United scored after 6 added minutes against Wednesday to win... everyone complained about the 6 minutes but that half the referee had to go off injured and replaced by the linesman..that's why there were six minutes
Here..nothing
Liverpool have a free kick chance now.
Just don't get it
Come on Argyle!!
One more added minute
Lucas blasts over and wide from distance and that should be that. Plymouth have earned their replay today.
There was a lengthy stoppage when an Argyle player was stretchered off. I'm guessing that's where the time came from./
The Kop is starting to empty - this is poor form from Liverpool.
Agreed. You should be proud of your Argyle.
The ref is allowing another corner to be taken....and that's it!
Well done, Argyle!
Ok, at least there was a stretchering off... I feel a little better about it
One last chance... corner in front of the Top..cleared... OVER
NIL NIL
Well done Plymouth
It finishes 0-0 as Argyle earn a replay vs Pool in Plymouth. I'm sure you're proud of your beloved Argyle.
Plymouth chairman, I think, is in tears
Of course, Fox is in the studio
United once played a match in Plymouth. Nearly forty years later Pool will.
Plymouth brought 9000 fans... well done
Very apt... for this season... United played St Et... just like they will this season
I agree that a draw is a bit better than a win... you get to play Liverpool at home
Batshuyai is superbly tackled for a corner. He shouts for a penalty, but he's grasping at straws.
ooh, the highlight shows how Pboro should have taken the lead before Chelsea did
Klopp will have to make a decision. The replay is three days after the match at Anfield. Will he play the youngsters or a strong side amidst fixture congestion, but knowing that they need to win.
Correct. They actually had two good chances. A shot from tow yards out straight to Begovic and a free header wide from a corner from four yards out.
OH!!! Pedro got behind the Posh defense and shot off the top of the bar from a yard out. It should have been his and Chelsea's second.
That's a fabulous effort from the Argyle. Liverpool should be embarrassed that they didn't respect the Cup more.
What a miss from Pedro....trying to be too showboating!!
Hope they lose now!!
Off to make some crumpets! Bought some last night from Trader Joe's..don't really like the place...to pretentious for me...but they have crumpets!
A poor foul by Tom Nicholls on Zouma. Just a lecture by Kevin Friend, who seems to be his friend.
I agree. They should not have played a youth side . We respect the cup.
Is it more profitable for a lower league side to play at home or away at the big club? I don't know. I do remember one time recently when a non-league club elected to play Arsenal at Highbury! Shocking!
Still 0-0 at the Riverside where a Not so Big Club are the visitors. That match kicked off the same time this one did.
It's more profitable to play away due to the gate receipts.
That happened in the early 50s when we played Walthmastow Avenue at Higbury and were held to a draw. I think Farnboro did that about fifteen years ago as well , but I think they were thrashed.
Oh - McGee did well to save from Willian. Relentless pressure from Chelski now.
Great kick save by McGee from Willian off a pass from Pedro.
Madison clears for a Chelsea corner. Ivanovic heads well over from the corner from Fab that was a not so lucky seventh corner.
Great solo, tricky run by Edwards and his pass results in a goal line clearance from Zouma.
GOAL! Great strike from Batshuiyi after a super move from the Blues.
GOAL !!! BATSHUYAI PUTS CHELSEA TWO UP WITH A GREAT FINISH
Ivanovic crossed and Loftus Cheek cushioned a pass for Batshuiyi. Lovely goal.
Willian set Ivanaovic free down the right . His cross was laid off by Loftus- Cheek and superbly tucked away by Batshuyai.
What a waste from Angol - his manager won't be pleased with that effort.
Angol may have tested Begovic early doors, but this time jhas an effort go halfway to Twickenham as there are two minutes of stoppage time.
He didn't get the Angol right. Poor geometry.
Nearly half time and I'd love to have some of UWS' crumpets, pretentious or not. Would go lovely with my tea.
It's cheerio from me today, as I've got a busy schedule ahead of going back to school tomorrow. Lots of things on the agenda. I hope to be able to catch some of the Leeds match tomorrow.
Chelsea are two up at the half.
Half time at the Bridge....two nil to the Blues.....just like vs Bradford a couple of seasons ago...I'm just saying!
I'll be watching the match at the Lane.. Spurs are on fire!
10 goals in three games!
I will be watching both. Chelsea are firmly in control of the match at the half.
It's 0-0 at the half between the Teesiders and Wednesday on a Sunday afternoon.
Im off for walkies in the chilly weather... but not much snow
The teams are in the tunnel at SFL.
Have fun. Elizabeth just took Sparky walkies in what is chilly weather by our standards.
Mike Dean gets us underway from SFL. I wonder how many controversial decisions will be made today
The second half is underway from Sb.
Chelsea nearly went three up as Fab won a tackle , passed to Batshuyai and put through Loftus-Cheek, who shot inches wide with just the keeper to beat
GOAL !!! WILLIAN PUTS CHELSEA THREE UP WITH A SUPERB FINISH FROM ABOUT 25 YARDS OUT/.
It started from the back . Fab found Pedro down the left with a long diagonal pass and laid off for that great finish from Willian
End to end as McGee saves superbly from Chhalobah then Madison leads a Posh counter , but his cross was cut out/
Ola Aina is on for Cahill . Martin Samuelsen, a young Norwegian on loan from the Hammers, is on for Gwyn Edwards
Ivanvic fouls Angol in the D. A rare chance for Posh.
Into the wall by Bostwick as Posh have a spell of pressure and now win a corner to the delight of the traveling fans. Chelsea counter off the corner.
Posh counter and Angol is through and brought down by JT.
JT IS GIVEN A RED CARD FOR DENYING A GOAL SCORING OPPORTUNITY. That looked the right decision as Angol surely would have gone through and scored.
The free kick from Taylor is straight to Begovic
Horrible for JT to be sent off for his first match in a while and perhaps one of the last of his long Chelsea career.
I am back from my walk... didn't miss much
Modern day football by Spurs..possessing and going no where
