Hurrah - it's Saturday Again!

I'm still glowing from that magnificent result at SJP yesterday evening. I'm settling in with the knowledge that Leeds have done their Good Friday business already. Now, we can all settle back and relax and enjoy the Premiership doings today. First up - Spurs at the Lane against Bournemouth. Then it's the 10am EST kickoffs including Palace v. Leicester and Watford v. Swansea. We end up with Citeh visiting Soton at the end of the day. Join me for all of the fun!

The NBC Sports Network crew is in Blighty this weekend. Robbie Mustoe and Kyle Martino has just had a feel of the pitch with Arrlo and Lee. Now Graeme Le Sox is having a pow-wow with Robbie Earle and Rebeeca Lowe in the pitch-side studio. Marvelous coverage!

Some good and bad news yesterday. The bad news is that Coventry were relegated to L2 yesterday while your Argyle are a mere point away from clinching promotion.

Can Spurs keep the title going?
All the Spurs fans will be United fans tomorrow

7:30 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Spurs come into this one five points ahead of Liverpool in second and trying to narrow the seven point gap with Chelski. It seems unlikely that they could win the title now with merely five matches left to play.

7:32 AM

Kane has his first look at goal. His volley is deflected out for a corner.

7:34 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

WOW !!! Harry Kane is back as he has cooked himself a corner with that shot.

7:34 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Another corner as Eriksen and Alli played a one two off a short corner.Wilshere clears for another

7:35 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Oh - Erickson whipped in a great ball to the near post. Put out again. Three corners in a row and Bournemouth are feeling the heat.

7:35 AM

Harry Kane offside off another one two from another short corner. They must have worked on that.

Bob will be interested to note that there is one lone Championship match today , hoping that Reading have the same thing happen to them at Villa Park that happened to them at CR last weekend.

7:38 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

That's my hope, too. We're in fourth ahead of that match. I'd like to stay there.

7:41 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

One lone L1 match , which is a local derby between Bolton and Oldham. A Trotters win inches therm closer to an immediate return to the Championship.

7:42 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I think you host Wolves Monday. Is that correct?

7:42 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Moussa Dembele lines up a cracking shot that turned aside by the excellent Boruc.

7:43 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

OH!!!! Boruc does well to keep out a powerful long range effort from Dembele. That would have been his first goal in 47 matches.

7:44 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

They're not technically safe yet but I can't see the Bees being dragged back into the relegation dogfight. They only need one more win from their remaining matches to be safe.

7:45 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Adam Smith fouls Eriksen just outside the box. That doesn't sound very economical

7:45 AM

1-0 Spurs

7:46 AM

GOAL !!! DEMBELE GIVES THE SPUDS THE LEAD.

7:47 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

GOAL! And Dembele has notched a collector's item!

Some loose defending from Bournemouth and Dembele rattles a volley home.

7:47 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Yet another corner from Eriksen, but this time was back heeled across the box by Toby that seemed to fool the Cherries and Dembele blasted in at the far post for his first goal in 47 matches.

7:48 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

My Howe the Cherries will be upset with the defending from that corner.

7:49 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

2 NIL SPURS!!

GOAL! Son makes it 2-0. It's his fourth game in a row that he's scored. Spurs are humming!!!

7:49 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

This is repeat of the Watford game!!

7:49 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

GOAL !!! NUMBER ONE SON PUTS THE SPUDS TWO UP WITH A GREAT FINISH AND CELEBRATES WITH HIS CUSTOMARY HANDSHAKE WITH DELLE ALLI.

7:50 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Again, wish United played at this pace and attacking

7:50 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Spurs are the best form team in the Premiership now. If they'd played like this consistently throughout the season, they would be odds-on favorites for the title.

7:51 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Agreed. It sure seems that way

7:51 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

It was a long possession by the home team. They lost the ball them immediately won it back. The ball broke to Harry Kane., who played through Number One Son and he nut megged the on rushing Boruc

7:53 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Kyle Walker clears for the Cherries first corner of the match

7:54 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

A corner from Junior Stanislaus is cooked over the bar.

7:55 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

As for yesterday, great results for Pompey except for their own 1-1 draw
As for Leeds, they definitely needed something from yesterday's game. The way they got it was great but it is far too close for my liking in the table!!
One good thing is that the two teams that want to take Leeds spot are playing each other on the last day of the season....they both can't win

7:55 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The Artery of the Cherries midfield is down on the deck off a challenge from Dembele.

7:56 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Actually, not a bad result for Pompey considering they were playing the second placed team. Argyle are a point from clinching promotion while Pompey are five points away. Pompey Argyle will be playing each other in L1 next season.

Who do you think are still in danger going down
Sunderland and Boro already down?
Boro 24
Sunderland 20

What about the rest?
Who is still in danger?
Are Leicester, Stoke, West Ham and Burnley all safe on 36?
Bournemouth 35
Palace 34
Hull 30
Swansea 28

Blogger manunitedrules said...

A Spuds cross is cooked out for a corner.

8:00 AM

Hopefully Pompey only needs four points with a 9 goal advantage

8:01 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Spurs have taken the foot off the gas now.

8:02 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The big match will be Palace vs the Tigers in a couple of weeks. It seems that the Tigers and Swans are battling for that final relegation spot. All the teams above the Tigers are a win from safety, IMHO.

8:02 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I am confident in Pompey. It will happen for them.

8:03 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

I'm banking on a draw from that Fulham v. Not a Big Club fixture on the last day. We only have four matches left and we're three points up. I think we'll just about make it. We need to muller Wolves on Easter Monday for sure.

8:03 AM

How the mighty have fallen as Coventry were relegated to L2 yesterday.

But finishing fifth isn't that bad either

Don't want to finish sixth though

8:04 AM

Oh - great play through Kane to Erickson who just couldn't get over the ball as it sat up.

8:07 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Boruc pushes around a shot from Eriksen off a pass from Harry Kane.

8:07 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Spurs with a bloody short corner

I just don't get it

You have a free kick. The opposition can't attack the ball
The ball is standing still

No....let's pass it around and let them try and tackle me!

8:08 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

OH!!!! Just over from Erksen off a pass from Number One Son off a great Spuds possession.

8:10 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Number One Son shoots straight at Boruc off a pass from Eriksen.

8:12 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

I agree with Mustoe for once - Bournemouth are letting Spurs a bit too much here. Another great chance there.

8:12 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

I agree, UWS. Unfortunately modern managers are obsessed with Opta stats that show that possession is all important. Traditional corners risk giving the ball away, so too many play it short and just maintain possession.

8:13 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Adam Smith down off an awkward landing. That type of economics sounds like bankruptcy.

8:14 AM

Blogger manunitedrules said...

Definitely advantage Leeds with that schedule. Sounds like Bob , Kate , and Not a Big Club will be battling for that final playoff spot.

8:17 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Reading in a playoff spot with a negative goal difference. Would they really survive in the Prem?

8:17 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Well, that was easy. Spurs troop in 2-0 up at the Lane. It could have been four or five.

8:18 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The dominant Spuds are two up at the half.

8:18 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Half time

Robbie Mustoe going bananas in the booth.

8:33 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The second half is underway from SFL.

8:33 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Oldham vs Bolton is 0-0 at the half. If that result holds then the Evil Blades are L1 champs.

8:34 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Superb slide tackle in midfield by Eric Dier on Josh King , showing which is the more committed side.

8:35 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

GOAL !!! HARRY KANE PUTS THE SPUDS THREE UP.

8:36 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The ball was won in midfield. Several passes later, Delle Alli was played down the right. His pass was collected by Harry Kane , who turned away from his marker and tucked it away in the corner.

8:37 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Back with a bagel to see Harry Kane notch his 20th goal. Two consecutive 20-goal seasons now for Kane - only Shearer, Henry, and RVN have done that. He'll be England's main striker for some years to come.

8:38 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Great stat, mate. Agreed and perhaps he will catch the Chunk in the scoring race.

8:40 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Oh - Kane was in goal and hit it straight at Boruc. He should have had his brace there.

8:40 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

In the loo for Spurs third

8:40 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I am in the Spurs corner for the League.... and the Cup

8:41 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

And again - could have been HK's hat-trick. What are the Bees playing at?

8:41 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Talking about scoring race, Harry Kane should have scored as he was put through by Eriksen, but his scuffed shot was easily saved by Boruc as it was on the next possession, except he was put through by Number One Son this time.

8:42 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

What was Robbie Mustoe doing in the booth

8:42 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Spurs fans are cheering former Gunner Wilshere getting injured - rather unsporting.

8:42 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Oh - Dele Alli was in there. How many chances are Spurs going to get?

8:43 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Welcome back, UWS. That sounds familiar.

8:43 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Great block by Simon Francis for a corner.

8:43 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

No need to cheer an injury despite Wilshere being on loan from the Gunners as he's replaces by twenty year old Lewis Cook.

8:44 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Two many Cooks spoil the broth or has that ship sailed?

8:44 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Is is safe to say you've done to the bagel what the Spuds have done to the Cherries?

8:45 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Lewis Cook is another LUFC Academy player who we let go to a Premiership side just as he was coming through the senior team. Shame.

8:46 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Junior Stanislaus fouls Delle Alli just outside the box.

8:47 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Absolutely, mate. Asiago bagel with chive and onion smear. Done and dusted.

8:47 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Straight into the wall by Eriksen

8:48 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Despite that Leeds are in a playoff spot. Lewis Cook and MAx Gradel can talk about the good old days at ER on that Cherries subs bench.

8:49 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Boruc with another comfortable save from Harry Kane.

8:49 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Dier has a shot blocked for a corner.

8:51 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

That's the problem - very few of our players sold off have done well elsewhere. Gradel? Becchio?

8:51 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Afobe clears the corner from Eriksen.

8:51 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The jury is still out on Sam Byram.

8:52 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Great tackle by Artrer for another Spuds corner taken short. Boruc does well to push away a long range effort.

8:54 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Still Oldham 0 Bolton 0 as the Evil Blades are about to clinch the L1 title. Sorry, mate.

8:55 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Wee Ryan on for Stanislaus. Why didn't he start as he's in great form?

8:57 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Son now on the volley. Not a lot of power and Boruc saves easily.

8:57 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Boruc saves a volley from Number One Son.

8:57 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Why can't United create this many chances and be so dangerous

8:58 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

First yellow of the day goes to the sub Fraser.

8:58 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Wee Ryan is the first player this match booked and just a minute after coming on. A wee bit over aggressive on Ben Davies.

8:59 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

United still a work in progress?

8:59 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Number One Son is flagged offside as the ball broke to him with just the keeper to beat

9:00 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

I agree - if you were to match up the United players with their Spurs counterparts, the Spurs players are just better in most cases.

9:01 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Not sure what the best 10 Amer is. I guess Palace vs the Foxes , being shown on NBCSN.

9:01 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I agree as well. United have their work cut out for them.

9:02 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Hugo Lloris gets a big ovation for his first save of the day. I thought he'd gone off for an Easter Egg Roll.

9:02 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Ben Davies wins a Spuds corner.

9:03 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Now it's Ben Davies with a pop at goal.

9:03 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

That corner from Eriksen was over COOKED . Then Boruc easily saves a long range effort from Ben Davies.

9:04 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

United, despite all their draws, still have a shot of finishing in the top four but the problem is they host Chelsea and also go to the Emirates and White Hart Lane... also play red hot Palace on the last day

BOOM BOOM! Jose would have said that he was taking a nap.

9:05 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Also the Manc Derby on the 27th. I don't see United finshing in the top four with that schedule. I think they and the Gunners will finish in EL spots./

I think Villa could actually win this and Reading have one day less rest than the rest of the challengers.

So far so good for Swansea, though: Hull are losing, Sunderland are losing, Crystal Palace are losing, and they’re playing well at Watford. No goals yet, but plenty of encouragement

Hibs takes the lead vs Queen of the South. If they win and Falkirk fail to defeat St. Mirren then they clinch a return to the SPL.
