United's Spanish Road Trip in the Europe League Semis!
United hit the Europa League semi final stage tonight in Spain against a wily Celta Vigo side that they can hardly afford to take lightly. It's a busy day in the office, so I'll likely be in and out during the affair, but I thought I'd post this one so that anyone who is around can post as they wish. Come on, United!!

Afternoon, chaps. United have traveled a long and rocky road to reach this semi-final, with today’s match being their 13th of a competition that Jose Mourinho did not consider a particularly gripping pursuit when he started the journey. But somewhere along the way – probably between Luhansk and Rostov – the manager came to the grudging realisation that this was his team’s best route into next season’s Champions League. So this campaign is about more than winning a trophy, it’s also about ensuring that United and Mourinho never have to play for this trophy again.
The team news out of Spain this evening:
Celta Vigo: Alvarez; Mallo, Cabral, Roncaglia, Jonny; Wass, Radoja, Hernandez; Aspas, Sisto, Guidetti
Subs: Villar, Fontas, Diaz, Bongonda, Beauvue, Jozabed, Gomez
United: Romero; Valencia, Bailly, Blind, Darmian; Herrera, Pogba, Fellaini; Lingard, Rashford, Mkhitaryan
Subs: De Gea, Mata, Martial, Smalling, Carrick, Rooney, Young
Referee: S Karasev (Russia)
We're underway in Spain. I reckon a hard-battling draw, with perhaps an away goal, might be what United are hoping for tonight.
What a chance! From a throw-in on the right, Celta easily work Radoja into a crossing position and he floats a fine ball towards the back post. Bailly jumps but can’t reach it, leaving Wass with a free header from eight yards ... but he sends it wide! A let off for United!
A quarter of an hour gone and Mou will be quite pleased by the proceedings so far. United haven't created much of yet but it's not really their agenda to push tonight.
And as I type that, Rashford pushes the agenda. He jinks inside and unleashes a furious curling shot that goalkeeper Alvarez does well to claw away. Fabulous effort!
United stroke the ball around the back for bit, just to frustrate the hosts, who want to do everything at 90mph. Great match management there. Half an hour gone now.
Oh - great chance for Lindy there but he complete whiffed on it as the cross was deflected toward him. Shame.
Winding down the first half then. UWS hates this stat, but United have had 52% of the possession. If they can continue to hang on to the ball in the second half, they'll be able to see this one out.
Peep peep - half time arrives. United have been the better side with two clear cut chances for Lindy and Rashford, well foiled by Alvarez.
Off to get a bit of work done before the second half now.
We're back on for the second half now. Celta about to get us underway.
Good afternoon, Bob. I will sign on to the link . My last period class is taking a test ahead of progress reports.
It's 0-0 , which would be a great result to take up to PT next week.
De Gea does well to tip over a deflected shot.
Sorry. I meant Romero. He's our EL keeper.
Hugo Mallo fouls Rash just outside the Celta box.
YESSSSSSSSSSS!!!!! RASH CURLS IN A SUPERB FREE KICK , GIVING UNITED A PRECIOUS AWAY LEAD.
Welcome, MUR - that's marvelous news. United should be well on their way with that away goal.
Thanks, Bob. It's definitely beneficial getting that away goal. BLOW UP REF!
Absolutely!
United substitutions: Young and Martial on, Mkhitaryan and Rashford off. The youngster looks like he might have picked up a strain of some sort, as he’s hobbling off.
Pogba booked for time wasting then doesn't get quite enough curl on the free kick.
Young looking old, sitting down due to a pulled hammy or thigh strain
The final roll of the dice from Jose as Smalling is on for Young.
Smalling on for Yashley now. Mou is bolting the door in true Continental fashion.
Five minutes of stoppage time. Why so much?
Nearly into stoppage time now. This is looking exceedingly good for United and everyone who backed them for the EL.
WAY HAY!!! United hold on to get a great 0-1 away win, which really helps their chances of being in the final
That's it for me. The Fourth was with United. I look forward to chatting this weekend.
cheers!
May the Fourth be with you too, mate. See you on Saturday morning!~
