The team news out of the Bridge this morning:
Chelski - Courtois, Azpi, Sideshow, Rudiger, Kante, Fab, Moses, Alonso, Willian, Morata, Pedro.
Everton - Pickford, Keane, Williams, Jags, Gueye, Besic, Colgate, Baines, Roon, Siggy, Calvert-Lewin.
Good morning, Bob. Thanks for posting the thread on a sleepy Sunday morning heading into the international break.
Pickford makes a decent save from Sideshow Bob after a spell of Chelsea pressure.
Chelsea come into this one after a really erratic start. They were woeful against Burnley in the opener but then struck back in true Conte fashion, beating Arsenal on their own patch. Which Chelsea will show up today against an Everton who've had an impressive start?
Fab passes to Willian , who passes to Pedro and he forces a similar save from Pickford.
Morning, MUR - thanks for joining me this morning. How's everything your way?
The other Prem match is the Baggies vs the Potters and many people's pick for first managerial touchline fight
Chelski are the side that has looked the more enterprising in the early going here.
I'll have to keep an eye on that one.
Glad to join you. everything is going well. How about in WNY?
Everton really haven't gotten anything going yet. Apparently they're in for Diego Costa this week. They could really use a focal point up front as Roon is doing that maddening thing of dropping deep.
It's perfect weather for Bank Holiday weekend. The beaches must be packed to the max.
Things are good here. We had a late night last night. We were painting our front porch until late on a gorgeous Saturday evening, then did some cooking and watched a movie into the wee hours. Hence my late start to things this morning.
WOW !!!! Isn't that a step down for Costa. It must be his attitude because he ended the season in great form
I stayed indoors. It was decent weather Friday , but the hot weather returned, so Jacquelyn and I stayed indoors. I was up a bit later than normal.
Will fatigue be a factor in the second half due to the warm weather?
Morata is still finding his legs in the Premier League. He had a half chance there to run into the channel but just pulled up a bit.
I wouldn't be surprised.
He is a natural goal scorer , but seems to be off the pace.
GOAL! Lovely strike there by Fabregas after a one-two with Morata!
GOAL !!! CHELSEA TAKE THE LEAD DUE TO A FAB FINISH
Everton will need to get out of their shells now.
Willian seemed trapped by the corner flag off a short free kick , but he played a Fab pass between three Toffees players then Fab played a one two with Morata before scoring with a well placed shot.
Agreed. This will force the Toffees to attack. They are winless in their previous 22 visits to the Bridge. Not a good stat for the Toffees.
The shorts at NBC are singing " WE'RE NOT GOING TO WEMBUHLAY."
Sorry. I meant to say shirts.
A long range effort from Siggy looked like a sicky.
A collision between Willian and Gaye.
That Fabregas goal has brought Chelsea ominously into fifth place. And it's time for a water break.
GOAL! My Golden Boot boy Morata flicks a header home for number 2.
GOAL !!! WHAT A FINISH BY MORATA JUST OUTSIDE THE BOX THAT LANDS IN THE UPPER 90.
Lovely teasing ball in and Morata playing on the shoulder rose to nod home. He'll score a lot of goals with his head on that evidence.
2-0!
Sorry. It was a cross from Azpi that was headed in by Morata in the upper 90. The Toffees failed to clear their lines and John Moss did well to play the advantage after two Toffees fouls.
The Toffees may be fatigued from the EL schedule. They played at the Etihad on Monday, in Croatia on Thursday , then here in the warmth today
In the late one, Liverpool could still finish in the top two or three with a win while Arsenal could nudge Chelski out of fifth.
That is a tough schedule.
A pair of minutes of stoppage time.
I think Liverpool is the favorite in that match
Chelsea are two up at the end of a very dominant half.
It's half time at the sunny Bridge. Chelsea are in party mode with a 2-0 lead.
The second half is underway
Besic came on for Tom Davies. It sounds like damage limitation from Fat Ronny.
Michael Keane tackles Pedro for a Chelsea corner.
I'm back with my brekkies for the second half.
Sandro has a shot blocked for a corner off a pass from Roon , who received a pass from Siggy.
First real chance for the Toffees. Sandro runs into the box onto a Siggy ball. Weak finish though.
That was the first time a Toffees player touched the ball in the box.
Welcome back, mate. Great to have you back energized and ready for action.
Still 0-0 at the Hawthorns between the Baggies and the Potters. WBA could go second with a win.
I am feeling energized after a couple of good nights of sleep. This next week should be less frantic for me.
Glad to hear that. The first week is always a busy week.Next weekend is a three day weekend.
Pedro is not too far off with a shot, but it was going to be difficult to score from that angle.
Victor Moses has a shot comfortably saved by Pickford as the Toffees defense was torn apart by one touch passing.
The Baggies take the lead vs the Potters. That moves them up to second. Is that correct?
The hapless Sandro is coming off in place of Calvert-Lewis.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin is on for Sandro.
J Rod, just signed from the Saints, with the Baggies goal.
A poor cross from Marcos Alonso and Jon Champion states that the cross was half way to Hammersmith. According to my calculations , it was halfway to Wembley
Nice one, mate.
Marcos Alonso wins a corner several passes after the Toffees coughed up possession in midfield.
The Toffees break as the corner is cleared and it ends with a long range volley from Roon well wide.
Rooney talks himself into a yellow card.
Now Roon's frustration results in a booking.
Everton are starting to get back into this one slowly. But will a goal come early enough?
Pedro gets a standing ovation as he's replaced by Bakayoko.
Victor Moses is booked for a foul on Baines,.
A standing ovation for Morata as he's replaced by Bats.
And now my boy Morata comes off - he'll be in and about things. I can see him ending up around 20 goals or so.
Crouchie ties it up for the potters at the Hawthorns.
He should be just a few behind Harry Kane.
Good old Crouchie!
A free kick from Siggy is headed out and it breaks to Ashley Williams , who hooks a shot from the D inches over. The closest any Toffee has come to scoring.
This match now feels like a Sunday stroll in the park.
Bob will be delighted as Aaron Lennon is on for Jags. An attacking option as that also adds to the LUFC Academy factor.
Sideshow Bob heads out for the Toffees second corner of the match. The corner from Siggy is headed out by Bakayoko.
Then a cross from is headed just wide by Ashley Williams.
Both teams are probably fatigued due to the heat.
Marcos Alonso has a shot deflected for a corner.
Jon Champion mentioned that Aaron Lennon has been out for a lengthy spell due to mental health issues. That's never a good sign.
Best chance of the match for Everton - Calvert-Lewis pulls a decent save out of Courtois.
A nice Toffees move and it culminates in a layoff from Lennon and a long range effort from Gaye is tipped over by Courtois for his first save of the match
Azpi booked for a foul on Lennon.
The final roll of the dice from Conte and Moses also gets a standing ovation as he's replaced by Christiansen. That's Andreas, not Tomas. A defender on as Conte shuts up shop.
Willian straight at Pickford.
A trio of minutes of stoppage time.
It finishes 2-0 to Chelsea thanks to first half goals.
Chelsea seem right back in the groove after that opening day hiccup. That was a consummate victory. Rooney's having a moan with the referees but his Everton side was never in that one.
Off to take Sparky walkies ahead of the late matches.,
I'm going to throw the whites in the laundry and will be back in a tick.
I'm back after some quick chores to settle in for the big one. Here is the team news out of Anfield:
Liverpool (4-3-3): Karius; Gomez, Lovren, Matip, Moreno; Henderson, Emre Can, Wijnaldum; Salah, Firmino, Mané. Subs: Ward, Klavan, Alexander-Arnold, Grujic, Milner, Solanke, Sturridge.
Arsenal ( 3-4-2-1): Cech; Holding, Koscielny, Monreal; Bellerin, Ramsey, Xhaka, Oxlade-Chamberlain; Ozil, Sanchez; Welbeck. Subs: Ospina, Mustafi, Kolasinac, Coquelin, Walcott, Lacazette Giroud.
Some curious choices, there. Klopp has said that he's merely resting Simone Mignolet today but with the transfer window closing next week, it's seems that Minnie may be off.
Back for the late one. That is an odd one regarding Minnie. He may be off, but Karius was dropped last season, so who knows what Jurgen is thinking?
It finished 1-1 between the Baggies and the Potters
The late ones are Pool vs the Gunners from Anfield and the Spuds vs Burnley from Wembley. The match from Anfield will be shown on NBCSN
So as we kick off, the top four is:
1. United
2. Hudders
3. Man City
4. WBA
But either Liverpool or Arsenal could jump into that top echelon with a big win.
The Liverpool song being sung by the fans.
They're off from Anfield.
This is the marquee match of the weekend and much at stake based on the standings
The big three contract rebels - Sanchez, Ozil and The Ox - are all in the starting line-up. Good sign that for the Gunners.
The new camera angle at Anfield makes me feel as if I've climbed Everest!
LOL, mate. That must be in the nosebleed section.
A decent chance for Liverpool that is headed just wide.
Oh - Welly was in there - first chance for the Gunners. Put it over.
Not liking this Arsenal aquamarine and dark blue fade number. Rubbish away kit.
The Gunners nearly score on the break. Ramsey wins a tackle in midfield the n goes on a sol run, finding Wellie, who falling chips over the advancing Karius and over the goal
Agreed. Gooner, Simon , and dad must be wanting to look away. Time for some scuba diving?
OH!!! Superb close range save by Cech from Salah. I thought Pool had taken the lead.
The Gunners must think that new away kit is an invitation for their defense to be all at sea.
Lovely move through Mane on the left earns Pool a corner.
Mane wins a corner off of Kos from a pass by Firmino.
It must be, mate - or they're trying to hypnotize them.
GOAL! Firmino steals in to open the scoring for the Reds.
GOAL !!!! FIRMINO HEADS POOL INTO THE LEAD. THIS ONE WAS COMING.
Too easy there for Pool. They had an age to find the right ball to cross in. When it did, Firmino beat his man to nod down into the left corner.
1-0!
Can picked up a loose pass deep in the Gunners half then played a one two with Salah . Can then put in a great cross for Firmino to head home.
Loveren booked for a rash challenge on Wellie
The Gunners struggle to deal with the high press as Hendo wins a tackle, plays a one two with Firmino , rounds Cech, but his shot goes across the box.
Wellie booked for afoul on Moreno It was more late than anything else.
Arsenal are not remotely in this game at the moment.
Gomez and Lovren are now in the book early on. Could be long match for them.
Now Joe Gomes receives a card as he pushes Ramsey from behind after being clearly beaten
The Gunners could be affected by the transfer rumors involving three starters plus that dreadful away kit.
Mo Salah has a go and it's stopped well by Cech.
Cech pushes away a shot from Salah off a pass from Firmino.
End to end stuff now - it's a riveting match.
Now Salah stabs home a neat finish but it ruled offside. He's a live wire, for sure.
After this match, the international break begins. Friday is an important day as it will be Malta vs the Three lions at 245 PM EDT on Watch ESPN and the Yanks vs the Ticos at 7 PM EDT on ESPN.
Agreed. it was hard for him to break into the Chelsea lineup, but he's a perfect for Liverpool
Sounds good - I'll look forward to those.
Mane volleys wide after a cross was headed down.
Bellerin concedes a corner off of Liverpool pressure.
Wijnaldum has a shot blocked and Pool keep possession
How is this for a surprise? Next Sunday Pompey vs Rotherham is on Watch ESPN. Kickoff at 930 AM EDT. UWS may be interested.
Salah offside from a nice through ball from Firmino.
The usual intricate move by the Gunners but it runs out of play.
I always forget that the lower leagues.
GOAL !!!! MANE OH MANE WHAT A SUPERB FINISH ON THE BREAK.
GOAL! Mane makes it a double now for the Reds as they inch toward the interval.
Great counter there through Firmino and Mane, who turned Holding inside out. Nice finish in the bottom right.
2-0 Pool!
It was a classic counter as Pool won the ball in their box and caught the Gunners cold. Can found Firmino , who found Mane down the left. He was able to cut inside and finish in the corner because the retreating defender was Holding back.
Cursing in the streets of Alex?
I agree with you. The only reason I mentioned the match is because UWS is a Pompey fan and he may want us there for support. Should we ask him?
Into stoppage time.
A pair of minutes of that if not more.
The Spuds being held 0-0 at the half by Burnley at Wembley
Pool are two up vs the Gunners at the half in a very dominant performance.
The half-time whistle comes and Arsene Wenger has some sorting out to do, for sure. They've had a mare. Liverpool well on top - 2-0.
Agreed. It's not just the tactics, but his side seems to really lack motivation.
Ramsey is replaced by Coq Au Vin , who should have started. Sounds like damage limitation. Second half underway
Ozil drags a shot well wide after the Gunners open the half with a decent attack.
Cech makes a decent save from Wijnaldum
I'm not sure that that's the change that needed to be made, really. I would have liked to have seen some whole sale changes from Wenger.
To be fair, the Gunners have come out the traps firing. Ozil goes into the book for a high footed challenge on Hendo.
Ozil booked for a rash challenge on Hendo. That is probably due to lack of practice in making challenges.
Karius caught in possession by Wellie, but gets away with it.
I'm surprised that Lacazette is not starting.
From the Arsenal player's reaction, Wenger was rattling the teacups in the dressing room.
Delle Alli gives the Spuds the lead vs Burnley. Will the Wembley hoodoo be lifted?
Can heads wide off a free kick from Salah.
Gooners will be hoping that Arsene rattled some teacups and more.
Elsewhere, Dele Alli has put Spurs ahead at Wembley, where they’re entertaining Burnley.
Salah with a tasty tackle off Nacho then goes on a solo run. Cech saves his shot and the rebound from Hendo lands in Row H.
Loveren tackles for a Gunners corner.,
Holding with a crucial interception with the chest. Pool wanted a free kick.
GOAL! Salah streaks away and runs the full length of the pitch and slots home past Cech.
3-0!
GOAL !!!! SALAH GOES ON A SOLO RUN OFF THE GUNNERS AND SLOTS IT PAST THE ON RUSHING CECH TO PUT POOL THREE UP.
The corner was headed away then Salah tackled Bellerin and went alone unchallenged on a 60 yard run before slotting it past the helpless Cech
Looks like Cech mate for the Gunners.
In Arsene Gooner, Dad , and Simon probably do not trust
Doesn't look good, does it? I may have to call the Gooner to console him later.
Moreno tackles for a Gunners corner. Will that result in another Pool goal.
Alexis comes off looking really dejected. The Ox as well. Giroud and Lacazette as well. The Ox apparently threw away a track top in a strop. Not a good sign.
The final rolls of the roulette wheel from Arsene. A pair of French strikers on as read in Lacazette, who is on for Alexis and Ollie on for the Ox.
It appears that the Gunners will play with three strikers with the two replaced midfield slots being advanced slightly forward .
Not a good sign. Sounds like low morale in the Gunners squad.
Klopp doesn't seem to be happy with Karius who has been attempting some suicidal footwork instead of hoofing clear.
Arsene should have taken off the makeweight Ozil and kept Ox on for width.
I agree - Ozil looks like his head isn't in it.
Reminds of former Pool keeper, Bruce Grobelaar.
Gooner won't be happy with the critical commentary this afternoon by ex-Gunner Lee Dixon.
Not sure where Ozil would be headed. Bayern probably will not take him. Probably somewhere like Dortmund , Schalke, or Leipzig.
For once he may actually agree with Lee.
Yes, he's been taking training with Grobs, no doubt.
Lacazette is well wide as Ollie headed down a cross.
OH!!! A poor back pass from Holding and Mane forces a save from Cech that is cleared off the line by Bellerin for a corner.
Alberto Moreno is down after a clash with Coq Au Vin.
Hendo is down off a challenge from Holding, who stamped on his foot.
There was n o holding back from Mike Jones, who booked the Gunners defender for that challenge.
Mane receives a standing ovation as he's replaced by Danny Sturridge.
GOAL STURRIDGE SCORES WITH A FAR POST HEADER FROM A FOOT OUT. GREAT CROSS FROM SALAH.
Pool now four up. Same old Gunners caught out . Can turned Holding too easily and played a great ball down the left to Salah, who put in a great cross to Sturridge , who had a free header from a foot out. That sums it up.
A standing ovation for Firmino as he's replaced by Milner.
Bloody hell - it's 4-0 Pool now! Are we watching the end of the Wenger era? I wonder.
A shot from Xakha Khan is high and wide.
Alexis looking pretty grumpy on the bench.
Do you remember what happened to the Gunners half a dozen years ago today?
He looks none too pleased. despite the abject start to the season, I don't see Arsene going anywhere. In Arse, I trust to remain as manager of the Gunners
Emre Can coming off to a huge ovation. The Pool midfield have been excellent today.
The final roll of the dice from Klopp as Can is replaced by Grujic. A good performance means that he CAN get the famous Jurgen hug.
Arsene looks really frustrated.
