Lakenheath Old Boys
We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Morning, MUR - thanks for getting us going this morning with an excellent thread. I'm in the midst of pulling up a stream for the early one.
Good morning, chaps. Great to be around for the first full day of the new Prem season.
Hello, Bob. I was willing to chat on the thread you posted, but either way, it's great to enjoy the pleasure of your company.
They're off from Vicarage Road.
Now they are.
The team news out of Vicarage Road this morning:
Watford (4-2-3-1) Gomes; Janmaat, Kaboul, Britos, Holebas; Doucoure, Chalobah; Amrabat, Cleverley, Pereyra; Okaka.
Substitutes: Pantilimon, Prödl, Femenía, Watson, Capoue, Richarlison, Gray.
Liverpool (4-3-3) Mignolet; Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Lovren, Moreno; Can, Henderson, Wijnaldum; Salah, Firmino, Mane.
Substitutes: Karius, Klavan, Gomez, Milner, Grujic, Solanke, Origi.
Referee Anthony Taylor.
No worries, mate - you beat me to the punch this morning.
Back with a strong cuppa. Not used to getting up this early.
We're away from Vicarage Road!
Phillipe Coutinho appears to be the Alexis Sanchez this morning - not even on the bench. He'll be away before the ned of the transfer window.
It's a lovely day in the London are. About 70 at kickoff. Wish we could have some of that weather, but probably not till November at the earliest,
Isn't he supposed to go to Barca, presumably to replace Neymar.
I've got to get used to all this streaming video. I'm out of practice.
My Red Card boy Sebastian Prodl isn't on the pitch, so that's two points lost for me.
OH!!! The Hornets nearly stun with Pool with the lead. Okaka put through Perreira and his shot was deflected for a corner.
GOAL !!!! OKAKA HEADS POOL INTO THE LEAD WITH A NEAR POST HEADER OFF THE CORNER. FREE THE SIX YARD BOX.
That ends run of over 40-00 minutes without conceding a Prem goal. Pool wish last season had never ended.
Oh - Pereira was through on goal there. Great block from Lokeren.
You're ahead of me again today, mate. Osaka nods home Watford's opener of the season after less than 10 minutes!
Wow - this season has started with a bang. Klopp not happy.
About thirty miles west of Vicarage Road Alan Devonshire's Maidenhead hosts Jeff's lads in the first ever season of Conference footie for both teams , but for different reasons. That match kicked off the same time as this one.
Sure hope it's a sign that there will be loads of goals. Sorry you're link is behind.
Sorry about that. Strodl was a decent pick for red card. He's big and never shy of a challenge.
Looks like Janmaat has a problem now - may have to come off.
Jan Mat is down on the carpet. Did he pull something. Emre Can is being told By his boss what he CAN NOT do. No Klopping from ,the gaffer.
A lot of the PPP crowd have picked Jose Holebas, who is started.
That goal from Okaka made Liverpool fell like Kaka.
I did because he's a naughty boy even though he means well. The refs don't seem to care for him too much.
Janmaat is carrying on for the time being.
Mane oh Mane. Liverpool can't get into gear as they're flagged offside.
Now he's subbed as he's replaced by new signing, Femenia.
Yes, it did. Good start to the puns, mate.
Now Janmaat is departing. Kiko Fermenia, a Spaniard that they've just signed from Alaves, is on in his place.
Morning all,
Sorry I missed the start. I set the alarm and snoozed a bit
Lovely jubbley
Mane oh Mane now called for foul on the debut boy.
Liverpool really haven't gotten started yet.
Morning, UWS - I'm sure that you're happy to see that early goal against Liverpool. You're still not keen on them, right?
Cheers, Bob. Good morning, UWS. You may have missed the goal scored by Okaka. Pool defending like the Gunners off a Hornets corner.
I haven't been able to get an update on Alan Devonshire's lads vs Jeff's lads.
Still 0-0 in that match
I guess UWS missed a goal the old fashioned way. Sleeping on the job!
I kinda dislike Liverpool... FOREVER
Liverpool not really making me feel comfortable about my pick of them for a top five finish.
Bugger... Mane ties it up
Decent goal though
GOAL !!!MANE OH MANE!!!! POOL TIE IT UP AGAINST THE RUN OF PLAY.
GOAL! Mane levels it for Liverpool - that was their first decent move of the match.
1-1!
A really neat and tidy goal. Off a throw, Mane played two one twos with Moreno and one with Can before a superb finish past Gomes Addams.
GOAL !!! dOUKORRE RESTORES THE L;EAD FOR THE HORNETS.
Wow - this season has started with a bang!
What kind of defending was that from the Reds? Tragic from Alexander-Arnold - he hit his own man with his clearance!
This goal was also off a throw. Clever Boy showed that he can be really clever as he played two one twos, then his pass was cut out , but straight to Doukorre , who smashed it in from about three to four yards out.
YES!!!
2-1 Watford
It was really comical defending .
We are already into double figures for goals this season!!
A long free kick from Clever Boy is headed on by Kaboul and gathered by Minnie.
Kaboul met that Clev free kick really well but it landed safely enough in Minnie's hands.
It's been a great start to the season. Long may it continue.
Mane booked for a foul on Doukorre, who tried to be like Beckham from the halfway line and was nowhere close to the target
Chalabah goes for a Pele effort, seeing Minnie off the line.
And Mane picks up the first booking today for a hack on Doucoure.
Useless effort by Salah
David Tarpey has given Alan Devonshire's Maidenhead the lead vs Jeff's lads.
Oh - new signing from Chelsea Mohammed Salah was in on goal but the toe poke was the wrong choice. Over the bar and through the woods to Grandma's house with that effort.
He walked like an Egyptian, but missed that sitter as he shot over past the on rushing Gomes Addams. Was more like Lurch with that finish.
What was that from Mignolet?!
I was thinking the PPP. I am pleased that people can't change their picks for everything. I also like the changing of the GB winner BUT I think it should only be for someone that has switched clubs that can be changed. If Messi, Ronaldo and Bale come in fine. If some striker comes into the big six to score the goal, that's fine
I don't think anyone should just be a able to change their pick willy nilly. They shouldn't be able to pick a striker that has scored 10 in the month of September or drop their pick because he's scored nowt
Thoughts?
Holebas wins a Hornets corner. He should have fouled the player for getting in his way.
Watford have a free kick chance now but they play it backward.
Minnie gathers the corner from Clever Boy
I agree, UWS. That's the intent of making the change. I completely agree.
Liverpool have to go to Germany for Tuesday...tough draw for them.. how sad..not!
Most of the time, I've noticed that there are very few changes, so now worries on that score, UWS. By the way, when I post the PPP update this week, you'll notice that I did allow in a 13th play, Red Devil, who was in the midst of a move to Long Island this week. I hope that's okay.
It doesn't get any easier for Liverpool as they have tricky CL tie in Klopp's Germany on Tuesday.
You've really got it in for the Merseysiders, mate. Wow! They're not from Sheffield, you know.
If Pool are eliminated then they join their neighbors and the Gunners in the EL.
Monaco started at this stage last season and made it to the semis.
4 added minutes
Four minutes of stoppage time.
Four minutes of stoppage time to play then.
Fine with me
I just hope people change to Vardy if scores a few more braces in August
A useless cross walked in like an Egyptian.
That hardly seems fair. If they lose, they should be out of Europe.
Struth... I though Mane had tie it up
This match could have been exactly like last nights
I'd like a season-ending injury for Vardy. I still haven't forgiven him for laying down tools to get Ranieri sacked last season.
Kaboul heads out a cross from Alexander-Arnold for a Pool corner. Mane heads just wide from that corner.
Oh - Mane wasn't too far away with that headed effort. Could easily have been Desmond, just like yesterday.
You don't like Owl Face?
How about third place in the CL group stages still in Europe!
HT... long may it continue
Not like yesterday as the Hornets lead Pool 2-1 at the half.
Half time at Vicarage Road, then. The home side have been the more enterprising of the two. Deservedly in the lead going in.
Alan Devonshire's Maidenhead are one up at the half vs Jeff's lads in their maiden season in the Conference.
Barcelona have signed former Spurs midfield Paulinho for 36. 5 m
Silly money. I had forgotten about that bloke and he's worth 36.5 million!
The second half is underway from Vicarage Road.
I'm off to get the breakfast buffet, chaps - back before the end of this one.
He sure was a flop at the Spuds. Surprised he's worth that much or is that much any more?
Second half underway at Vicarage Road
I have been to one match there. I went with the Flynns. They owned Safepac and lived next to the Worly Hotel
They are Spurs fans, so we saw Watford Spurs in the Hoddle days
Klopp and Marco Silva in argument. Klopp must be unhappy that there's a stoppage in play.
Managers having a little spat...not enough to count!
Players and managers can't complain about the acting and time wasting unless they stop doing it themselves!!
In Spain.. they are the worst hypocrites
WOW!! Their first season in the top flight was my senior year of high school, so that must have been in the mid 80s.
Off to take Melanie to the high school. She's helping with the marching band before she leaves for college. Should be back in about ten minutes.
MUR, I sent this to Bob a few weeks ago
It is a link to live BBC 1
Match of the day is on at 10:30 UK time
https://www.firstone.tv/Live/United-Kingdom/BBC-One-4
I have been looking at this site..if you click on UK there are more choices
MUTV
Terrible cross by Mane... long may that continue!
Ref gives the penalty!
Gomes went for the ball but it moved a split second before
Desmond
Watford's new man from Burnley about to come on
Gray will be Watford's last sub
Bugger... 3-2 Pool
Salah
12 goals in less than two games!!
Liverpool doing exactly the same thing Arsenal did yesterday by scoring two goals in two minutes to take the lead... will it be the winning goal
Andre Gray still hasn't made it on the field
Finally he makes it on
Yikes . Missed three goals in a dozen minutes. Two by Pool and one by Alan Devonshire's lads.
New signing, Andre Gray, is on for Okaka.
I'm going to rewind and watch what I missed.
Gomes Addams does well to tip over a pile driver from Moreno.
OH!!! Matip has a header off the bar from the corner taken by Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Liverpool hit the bar
Now time to rewind.
Just heard on 5 Live... Kasper Schmeichel is the only keeper to save a shot on target so far this season
West Ham have the same situation that Liverpool did last year.
Their first handful of games being played away from home
Last season, Liverpool were finishing their stand. West Ham won't be playing at home because the London Stadium is being used for the World Athletics Championships until today and then it has be made right for football
West Ham don't play at home until Monday Sept 11
5Live talking about how many header chances there have been so far this season... will this make teams actually try and CROSS the ball
Minny almost dropped a clanger there
Sleeve sponsors are allowed this season
Liverpool have Western Union... those telegrams are still popular!
I think United have Tinder!!!
Looking through United glasses
Both these games have been promising.. both Arsenal and Liverpool with chances of losing.... sadly.... it looks like both will get away with it
Surprising team news for Chelsea
Morata only on the bench... why?
Two changes from the Charity Shield
A twenty year starts AND lots of kids on the bench
Message sent by Conte... needs more players
How about not sending millions of players out on loan
Burnley's bench stronger
I put on my picks that Kennedy was on loan at SJP but I guess he's still at SB. He's on the bench
Liverpool starting to waste time... Minny gets a card for time wasting.. he doesn't care
I really think they need to address the clock issue
Liverpool making pointless change... just to waste time!
Free kick chance for Watford.... come on... get the equalizer
In it comes, scramble.... cleared... shot...saved... corner
GOAL!!!!!!!!
Scramble at the front post!!!!!
LOVELEY JUBBLEY
7 goals
6 goals
What the hell is happening in the Premier
WAY HAY !!! Max Britos ties it in from close range to make it 3-3 with a close range scrappy goal in stoppage time
The corner was a pathetic front post cross.. Not a good clearance, shot/cross deflected on to bar by Minny....bungled in from one inch
Alan Devonshire's Maidenhead leading Jeff's lads 2-1 in stoppage time. What's happened to them?
Really scrappy, but they all count.
It's finished Devonshire's lads 2 Jeff's lads 1.
Watford man had a header chance but got a knock on the head
Been down for awhile
Surely the ref will blow up anyway
No they keep playing
Full time
What a start to the season
2 games down 13 goals
Only 378 games to go
It's over and a wild one finished 3-3.
Half a dozen goals this match plus half a baker's dozen at the EM makes a total of a baker's dozen goals scored in two Prem match.
a goal every 14 minutes
Off for walkies
I'll be back after the 3 o'clockers get going
Morning chaps. I woke up in time to see Watford job Liverpool at the death.
I've been under the impression that NBCSports was not showing all the matches this year for free and that some of the ones they stream on the web will require a paid subscription. Did I just get that from a bad dream? It looks like bizniz as usual today, Chelski v Burnley on the telly, and Stoke v Everton on CNBC and the rest of the Premiership 10am kickoffs on the streaming NBCSports Extra. I've been experiencing anxiety over this for weeks. Was I wrong?
Morning, Gooner - welcome!
It appears that our anxiety was for naught, mate. I was worried that I'd lose the Leeds coverage that I was used to on BEin, but now I've seen two matches on the trot on ESPN. And another next weekend. It's normal service resumed and then some.
The team news out of Stamford Bridge as the champions start their title defense:
Chelsea
XI: Courtois; Rudiger, Luiz, Cahill; Azpilicueta, Kante, Fabregas, Alonso; Willian, Batshuayi, Boga
Subs: Caballero, Christensen, Tomori, Kenedy, Scott, Musonda, Morata
Burnley
XI: Heaton; Lowton, Tarkowsi, Mee, Ward; Cork, Defour; Gudmundsson, Hendrick, Brady; Vokes
Subs: Taylor, Arfield, Westwood, Walters, Pope, Long, Barnes
The first question I've got for Conte is - why the hell is Morata on the bench? I've got eight points riding on that boy. Come on!
We're about to get going at the Bridge and elsewhere.
Back for the 10 AMERS, which are underway
Good morning, Gooner. You must still be exhausted from watching that match yesterday
I'm using the PIP , Chelsea vs Burnley on NBCSN and the Toffees vs the Potters on CNBC
An early booking for MArcos Alonso for being a naughty boy.
Ben Mee heads on the long free kick from Brady that's easily gathered by Courtois.
Still waiting for that first red card in the Premiership. A lot of PPPers are out of the picture.
Gooner is still in with a shout with Brighton's Dale Stephens, though.
Early free kick effort for Burnley comes to nothing.
A very early sending off and an early goal! Bobby Reid has scored for Bristol City in their match against Birmingham at St Andrews. Meanwhile at the Madekski Stadium, Fulham’s Tomas Kalas has been sent off after just 31 seconds in his team’s match against Fulham. Thirty-one seconds!!!
It's all happening in the Championship.
Bristol City take the lead at St. Andrews. Brum beat them on the last day of last season to clinch survival
Yikes! It sure is.
Ross County take the lead vs Aberdeen as do Rangers vs Hibs,.
The Tangerines take the lead vs the Fake Dons as does Wycombe at your midweek League Cup opponents.
Burnley hanging on with some last ditch clearances.
I guess Conte figures it's only Burnley, so he figures he can bring Morata on in reserve.
Same old Roon, dragging a shot about ten yards off target.
RUDDY NORAH!!! GARY CAHILL SENT OFF EARLY DOORS. CHELSEA SOWN TO TEN MEN.
Oh my word! Gary Cahill has been sent off! First red card in the Premiership.
XXX tackle there - studs up - no excuse. He had to go.
I'm sorry not to get points for that horror show tackle from Cahill. What's happened to him, too old to keep up with play,?
The right decision from Craig Pawson as Cahill had two feet wrapped around Defour's ankle. Rather nasty and horribly mistimed.
Well, no one picked Cahill, so we're down to just one point in that category for the first player in the pool.
Not so Fab as he's booked for a rash challenge on Mee. Two yellows , a red, and no goals.
I am back
Walking up the driveway as I listen to Cahill getting a straight Red...Lovely jubbley
He sure wasn't on my radar, but he was on Defour's
Chelsea fans now baying for blood every time a Burnley player makes a challenge. Conte making an immediate change now.
Boga lasts only seventeen minutes on his debut as Conte responds by bringing on Christiansen.
Where the hell are the goals!!
Burnley get the ball in the net.. whistle blew before hand
Andre Christensen on to replace Boga.
The third match in a row that Chelsea have had a player sent off. They did in the FA Cup Final and Charity Shield.
Welcome back, UWS. Cahill sent off for an x rated tackle.
I hope that Cahill hasn't got too old to keep up with the play - he'll be England's first choice center back next summer, after all. I think he was just reaching for the ball after having overrun it and went in studs up. Had to go.
Weren't those other two Victor Moses for simulation?
Just checked the other channels in the 420s... it says no Prem games scheduled... what a bummer
I've turned it to CNBC for a bit for the Goodison match
It will e a nice vacation for Cahill. He will be available for two World Cup qualifiers , but will be suspneded at club level for the next three domestic matches. He should make his return in the CL then a few days later in the Prem.
Managers at Goodison Park today have something in common
What is it?
If you were listening... no answering
The Tigers take the lead vs Richard Burton. That's expected.
I was on the road taking Elizabeth shopping. They both played for Barca. I think at different times.
Another goal in the Championship: Barnsley lead Ipswich Town 1-0, with Tom Bradshaw getting the goal after 16 minutes.
GOAL !!!! EX LEEDS PLAYER, SAM VOKES, GIVES BURNLEY A SHOCK LEAD AT THE DRAWBRIDGE.
GOAL! Big Sam Vokes has put Burnley into the lead now! It's all gone pear shaped for Chelsea!!!
Damn it... missed the Burnley goal!
Actually, nice slick footie from Burnley, starting with a throw from Tom Heaton and culminating in a cross from ex Blade , Matty Lowton and volleyed in by Former LUFC player, Sam Vokes. Well placed, but Courtois should have done better
Huddersfield have also taken the lead early doors. So two of the sides I'd picked for relegation are winning!
Something more in common
The Terriers take the lead at Selhurst Park on a day of surprises.
WOW!!
Me too
TWO NIL
Huddersfield Town... top of the table!!!
YIKES!!!! The Terriers are two up at Selhurst. A Joel Ward OG and Steve Mourie. Two in tow minutes.
If Chelsea stutter at the beginning...they will just spend mega bucks
