Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Another Saturday of Premier League Action!

Another work week has spun by and ahead of us is a big weekend in English footer. We start early doors as usual with a London Derby at the City of London Stadium between West Ham and Spurs. If that's enough, then we have several tasty 10 am fixtures including the top v. bottom clash between Citeh and Palace and United on the road at Soton. I'll have an eye on the goings-on at Elland Road between my beloved Leeds and our East Anglia favorites Ipswich Town. Then we end up with Leicester v. Liverpool at 12:30. Is that enough for you? I thought it would be. Join me for all the action here on the LOB!

A very good Saturday morning to all of you. I'm all rise and shine and ready for the London Derby now.

Spurs have away advantage against West Ham, and really need a win to keep the Mancunian pacemakers within sight. The next few weeks are likely to determine whether Spurs will challenge for the title again, or whether this will become a bit of a lost season in which they end up focussing on the cups.

7:10 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

West Ham have started to pick up after a difficult start to the season, though Slaven Bilic still has reason to look over his shoulder.

7:11 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

We also have an Old Firm Derby kicking off at 7:30 this morning from Ibrox.

7:19 AM

West Ham (3-4-3) Hart; Fonte, Reid, Ogbonna; Zabaleta, Kouyate, Noble, Cresswell; Antonio, Chicharito, Arnautovic.
Substitutes: Adrian, Masuaku, Byram, Rice, Ayew, Carroll, Sakho.

Spurs (3-4-2-1) Lloris; Alderweireld, Sanchez, Vertonghen; Aurier, Sissoko, Dier, Davies; Eriksen, Alli; Kane.
Substitutes: Vorm, Trippier, Walker-Peters, Winks, Nkoudou, Son, Llorente.

Peter Drury and dirty old man David Pleat on the mics today.

7:30 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Good early running from Spurs here - they desperately need a win today to bring their title hopes back into the frame.

7:32 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Kane tried to dink one through for his buddy Dele but it was mopped up efficiently by Reid.

7:34 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Michael Oliver has a quick chat with Aurier about that tug back. Probably a final warning before a card.

7:37 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Chicha has a go from distance with a curler. Got it all wrong.

7:39 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

The Plan B for Slavan must be to go with Andy Carroll to put the frighteners on off the bench around the hour mark.

7:40 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Antonio drags a through ball towards Arnautovic, and Lloris hares from his area to clear. West Ham are starting to play some decent stuff.

7:42 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Joe Hart took no chances with that Erickson effort that looped up off a deflection.

7:43 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Oh - a storming run from Arnautovic was just broken up by Aurier.

7:46 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Everything Spurs try to get going in midfield is getting broken up by Mark Noble.

7:47 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

One more warning - surely his last - for Aurier. Referee Oliver is showing some patience.

7:48 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Arnautovic got into a good position but then his cross was woeful. Was he trying to catch Lloris off his line?

7:49 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Absolutely nothing going for Spurs yet - they are killing my PPP dreams.

7:51 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Spurs aren’t playing well, though much of that is down to the quality of West Ham’s defending and counter-attacking. A quarter of the match gone now.

7:56 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Bit of argybargy now between Noble and SIssoko. Michael Oliver calms them down without going to his pocket.

8:02 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

GOAL! Spurs lead through Kane!

8:04 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

The first real bit of attacking flair from Spurs there. A suspicion of offside as the through ball went out to Alli. But no doubt about his cross or the quality of Kane's header into the corner. Super goal.

0-1 Spurs!

8:05 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

It's 0-0 at half-time of the Old Firm Derby, which must have kicked off at 7am.

8:07 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Half time at the City of London Stadium - Spurs lead 0-2 through those two Harry Kane goals. He may not be able to score for toffee in August but he's rattling them in in September. Six goals in his last five matches in all competitions.

Two results yesterday. MK won two lover at Wimpleton in the Dons Derby and in L2 Swindon won by the same score at Forest Green.

8:39 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

West Ham are starting to lump a few crosses into the area for Carroll. So far Spurs have dealt with him comfortably.

8:41 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

My FB post shows Sunshine watching his beloved. He's doing very well as expected.

8:41 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Will City get another cricket score against the pointless and scoreless Palace today?
I don't see Palace scoring...they go to Old Trafford next and then host Chelsea!

8:42 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

They might as well be playing Lewis Carroll the way they're getting Hammered. OH BOTHER!

8:42 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

City v Chelsea is the late match next week.

8:43 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Alli runs in the box... take a shot with left!!

He tries to cut back and then dives

8:43 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Dele had a chance in the box there but Winston Reid came through with a brilliant tackle.

8:43 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Well read by Winnie the Pooh Reid on Kate and Alley , who looked like Harry Reid dribbling. He will need some wipeys.

8:44 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I think Palace is pretty much down . I never like to say that this early in the season, but they look all but doomed.

8:45 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Bob will be delighted to hear that an international break starts at the end of next weekend.

8:45 AM

8:48 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Delle flops off minimal contact with Jose Fonte.

oh!!!! tHE fRE FREE KICK FROM HARRY KANE IS OFF THE POST THEN GOAL ERIKSEN PUTS THE SPUDS THREE UP. AFTER THE SHOT HIT THE POST , A SHOT WAS BLOCKED THEN ERIKSEN SCORED WITH FANTASTIC FINISH

8:48 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

0-3 Spurs - Erickson.

Bilic might not survive the weekend after this drubbing at home in a London Derby.

8:48 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Kane must be up there with the top goal scorers. Just idle curiosity

8:49 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

How about Pond Frog Ronnie. Will he join Slaven?

8:49 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

OH!!! Kane is through and Hart tips his shot off the outside of the post for a corner.

8:51 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Spurs could stop winning at home last season. Now then can't stop winning away this season

Of course, they can't win at home

8:51 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Hernandez knocks the ball in at the back from post from a flick on header
Game on?

8:53 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

GOAL !!!! FONTE HEADS ON A CORNER AND CHICHA HEADS IN ONE FOR THE HAMMERS . NOW 1-3.

8:53 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I agree. Just some respectability in the scoreline.

8:54 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Doubt it either. Chicha's goal is merely a consolation.

8:54 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

So, Man City Palace and Stoke Chelsea are the games on TV for the three o'clockers

Corner almost hit Carroll's head... was there a push there

Alli being a thug again

9:20 AM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Looks to be a strong United lineup. We definitely don't want the grey kits.

9:20 AM

Ayew lucky not to be sent off for a foul on Davies. Just a booking.

9:21 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Ayew is lucky to escape a red there.

9:21 AM

One last chance now for West Ham to lump it up the pitch.
