The big news out of the Bridge is the Wenger has left Alexis on the bench again, despite his starting in midweek. Here are the sides that have just emerged from the tunnel:
Chelsea: Courtois; Azpilicueta, David Luiz, Cahill; Moses, Kante, Fabregas, Alonso; Willian, Morata, Pedro. Subs: Caballero, Rudiger, Christensen, Zappacosta, Bakayoko, Hazard, Batshuayi.
Arsenal: Cech; Mustafi, Koscielny, Monreal; Bellerin, Xhaka, Ramsey, Kolasinac; Lacazette, Welbeck, Iwobi. Subs: Ospina, Mertesacker, Maitland-Niles, Elneny, Sanchez, Walcott, Giroud.
Referee: Michael Oliver.
Good morning, Bob. It's great joining you for these fascinating Sunday fixtures.
Kickoff time at the Bridge - both teams in their traditional kits. Jim Beglin on the microphone.
They're off from the Bridge.
Jim joined by Peter Dreary.
There’s plenty of noise inside Stamford Bridge. It’s not long before Chelsea are attacking through the middle, Morata laying off deftly to Willian, who can’t return the ball to the Spaniard. That was a chance for the Brazilian to carve Arsenal open, but he couldn’t take it.
Morning, MUR - how's your weekend going, mate? Thanks for joining me.
Pedro pulls the trigger on the first real shot in anger. Cech right behind it.
Pedro with a long range effort straight to Cech off some sloppy Gunners passing.
Glad to join you. All errands were completed yesterday. How has your weekend been?
A short corner from Chelsea is blocked by Cech for another.
Ooh - close call there. From the short corner routine, Fab whipped in a low cross at the near post that Cech had to turn around.
The next one is harmlessly out for a goal kick
I had a productive Saturday afternoon as well. Bit of grading to take care of later but no problems at all.
Kneecap clash there between Moses and Lacazette. Both men down needing some treatment.
Just read about an injury alert in Lacazette even though some church goers heard about it from Moses. Either way, it was a nasty clash.
Hiya boys
Sorry I am late. I was on the thrown for kick off
I am here for the first match(with walkies included) but am missing the entire Rooney Return
Moses has a deputy warming up. Is there anything about that in the ten commandments.?
Morning, UWS - great to have you on board for the early one this morning.
I think there was something about "Thou shalt not feign injury in there," right?
Good morning, UWS. Great to have you join us. Sorry you won't be around for the big match at OT
LOL, mate. I read about that in Lacazette, not the ten commandments.
My GBB Morata had better get on his bike with the scoring. There are several others on four goals now and Lukaku has a chance later on to score a hatful against his old Toffee friends.
I don't see United returning to the top today. If United win 4-0, they still would be second because of the alphabet. Both teams would have a 16-2 GD. United actually need to score FIVE to go first.
WAY HAY!!!! The RGV Toros defeated Reno 1868 FC 1-0. About time they won a match. The final; home match of the season is in a fortnight.
Agreed. Citeh sure made a statement of intent. How would that affect the PPP?
All United should be concentrating on is a win at Old Trafford today.
Moses has been sent off the last two meetings with the Gunners
Agreed. The Toffees could be in the drop zone once the match is over.
It's going to be all change, with all of those who picked Citeh - Gooner, MOT, Swansong, and Simon - all getting a 10 point bump.
Oh - great move from the Arsenal leads to a Bellerin cross that Welly really should have directed on goal.
Shut your noise....United to win TEN NIL
Oh - Bellerin again ghosted by Alonso and delivered a cross to Lacazette who scuffed one at Courtois.
AI just read about a great save by Courtois in Lacazette after a great run and pass from Ramsey. That free header was wellie wide.
Wazza up with Roon?
Pedro down off a crunching challenge.
Courtois does well to push away a powerful long range effort from Kolasinac
Oh - great shot by Kolasinac and Courtois had to parry it away from the on-runners. Arsenal suddenly looking dangerous.
Pedro has a close range effort blocked by Cech as he beat the Gunners offside trap then Kolasinac concedes a free kick
Oh - Pedro got behind the Arsenal backline but Koz got back well to put him off. Cech with a smart save in the end.
Mustafi heads away the free kick from Fab
Morata heads over a cross from Moses after a long diagonal from Kante.
Another long ball attack to Moses who did well to get a cross over. Morata couldn't control the header. Cracking match so far.
Love to see Chelsea drop points today
Xakha Khan nearly on target , but the angle was too narrow.
A bit of a lull in the match now after a furious first half hour.
Decent ball in from the free kick but Morata nodded it out of danger for a corner.
Kos shoots wide after Moses misses his kick , trying to clear a Gunners corner.
Arsene, looking the headmaster. Surely, he's a footie record setter for wardrobe malfunctions.
I was just going to say that Le Professor was looking quite smart this morning in a neat, grey cardy.
Oh - how did Arsenal not take the lead there?! Ramsey weaved his way through the area but then toe scooped an effort onto the post and then Lacazette blasted over. Wow!
OH!!! How did the Gunners not take the lead? Ramsey went on a mazy run, had a shot come off the inside of the post and Lacazette rates the missed rebound as the missed sitter of the season
The Headmaster says pass and attack.
A pair of minutes of stoppage time.
Into stoppage time now.
Cech does a superb job of controlling a rocket of a back pass from some spicy nachos after Morata collected a clearance from Cahill.
it's 0-0 at the half that literally ends with a Sideshow as the Sideshow holds a wrist after crashing into the advertising boarding.
The half time whistle comes and the home side who were starting to look ragged will relish being able to get into the dressing room and reconfigure. An absorbing match so far. Time to refresh.
The Gunners were surprisingly the better team as Ramsey had a shot come off the inside of the post then Lacazette blasted over from a yard out.
Sorry boys... I have not been a good member of LOB today!
I have a few errands to do before I have to leave
Updates from this match and the next would be appreciated
Take care boys
TTFN
The second half is underway from The Bridge
Will do. Cheers, UWS.
Bakayoko is on for Pedro as Conte made a change. He probably was none too pleased with that first half Chelsea performance.
Back on for the second half now - Bakayoko is coming on to replace Pedro.Surprising, as I thought he'd had a good match.
Nacho gives up a decent free kick chance against Morata.
There's a stoppage in play due to a boot in the face from watching a Sideshow. The Sideshow is booked for that
Now then - two weekends ago Sadeo Mane was sent off for a high boot against Ederson. I asked then about bicycle kicks in the area. Now we have an example. Sideshow rises to bike one and catches Koz in the face.
What happens? Yellow card. Perfectly appropriate but what about Mane?
I think the refs agreed that a red card is far too harsh a punishment for that offense/.
Agreed. And yet Liverpool's appeal around the Mane case was rejected by the FA.
Nearly at the hour mark. Not as much attacking action in this second half so far.
Either I'm sleepy or this match is not easy on the eye.
That win over Cologne had the sweet smell of victory.
Morata has talked himself into the book after disagreeing with a call.
Wenger with his joker in the pack as Alexis comes on the pitch. I read about that in Lacazette about five minutes ago.
Wenger's first change of the match - Alexis on for Lacazette.
I agree - this second half has been a snoozer. Much worse than the first half, which had loads of chances. Seems as if both teams have settled.
It's like a poker game in Monte Carlo as Conte raises Wenger's Alexis with his Hazard. Which hand will win.
Chelski welcome back Eden Hazard who comes on for the last half hour for Willian. The Brazilian doesn't seem too pleased.
Willian the Brazilian is off as a result.
Hazard did score a goal against Gibraltar, but the Gunners will be more of a rock.
Welly seems to have a problem now. He is injury prone.
wellie done. I mean down, not done. He's replaced by Ollie, who tells him that's another fine mess you got us into.
Bakayoko late with a challenge on Ramsey
Mustafi thinks he's scored but he's flagged offside.
GOAL !!!!! No it's not as Mustafi headed in the free kick from Xakha Khan , but he's flagged offside.
Marcos Alonso wins a Chelsea corner.
Wenger has seen enough. Elneny is coming on to bolt the door.
Hazard goes on a solo run then shoots straight at Cech
Ramsey fouls Hazard then Fab shoots wide from the free kick.
Hazard has a go but Cech is right behind it. Not quite the right placement.
The final roll of the roulette wheel from Arsene as El Neny walks like an Egyptian to replace Iwobi. Arsene shutting up shop.
A real Hazard as A crunching challenge from El Neny results in a booking
This one smells like a draw now.
I guess a slightly different smell than Cologne
Jim Beglin steals one of my puns about Moses not parting the Red Sea. They usually play like Red Tide.
Wow! Sideshow gets a straight red now! He'd already been on a yellow but that's right off.
SIDESHOW BOB SENT OFF FOR AN X RATED CHALLENGE ON KOLASINAC.
Now then - can Arsenal turn this numerical advantage into a win.
As a consequence , Conte shuts up shop, bringing on Danish defender, Christiansen , for Morata
The Gunners piling on the pressure now.
Kolasinac picks up a late, late yellow.
Other than a Cl match, Sideshow Bob won't be available for Chelsea until the international break resumes.
And now Kolasinac gives away another free kick. Late free kick chance for the home side.
He's none too pleased about it.
Cech catches the free kick from Fab
Lee Novak gives Scunny the lead st Donny Trump
And now Bellerin picks up a yellow card.
Bellerin booked for a push from behind.
It finishes 0-0 at the Bridge after a feisty final few minutes.
And that's that. A clean sheet for both keepers and one point even for the sides. Probably a fair representation of the proceedings.
The late match is on NBCSN. Off to take Sparky walkies.
Back after a refreshing shower to enjoy the late one.
The teams out on the pitch at Old Trafford now:
Man Utd: De Gea, Valencia, Bailly, Jones, Young, Fellaini, Matic, Mata, Mkhitaryan, Rashford, Lukaku. Subs: Martial,
Smalling, Lingard, Carrick, Romero, Herrera, Darmian.
Everton: Pickford, Keane, Jagielka, Williams, Martina, Schneiderlin, Gueye, Baines, Davies, Sigurdsson, Rooney. Subs: Sandro, Mirallas, Klaassen, Besic, Stekelenburg, Calvert-Lewin, Holgate.
Referee: Andre Marriner
Back for the late one after walkies on a humid morning and feeding and emptying refuse for and from the pets.
WE'RE BACK! A return to OT for Wazza to face his old mates while the Belgians, the Hair and the Chunk face their old mates as well.
They're from OT!
Wayne Rooney has received a thunderous welcome from his old pals. And we're underway from Old Trafford.
COME ON UNITED!
Arlo, Lee and Le Le Sox on the mics this afternoon - a busy booth indeed.
Arlo says sunny and pouring rain. Typical Manchester!
GOAL! What a cracker from Antonio Valencia.
WAY HAY!!! VALENCIA GIVES UNITED THE LEAD WITH A CRACKER!
Maybe the 5-0 is on, then?
Lukaku took a wee knock there - hope he's okay.
As Jose was having a laugh the camera went back to the action. Yashley passed to Matic, who passed across the pitch to Valencia , who scored with a first time rocket from just outside the box.
United right back at it again - they're not going to give Rooney any quarter today.
The only quarter he will get is a quarter pounder and he's probably consumed his fair share of those.
United really playing at full tilt.
Yash with a cross that is rash.
That was a bit overcooked, eh?
The Toffees aren't in this one yet. Embarrassing for Fat Ron's side.
Schneid also with a return to OT. Forgot about him.
Not sure if they're overcooked because well done and Roon do not coincide. Fat Ron says they probably were a bit fatty
He would know, eh? Doesn't look like he's skipped a meal anytime recently.
United are level again with Citeh on 13 points from five matches. Just three goals behind them on GD.
When they asked Wazza up he said me weight , me waist size , me age, but not me hairline or me form.
Great tackle by Ashley Williams on Rash to prevent a great chance for United.
United break and a cross from thew Chunk is behind Rash
Roon wide on a Toffees break as Martina got free down the right and set him up.
Oh - Roon came close to equalizing there. He's scored a few at the end, hasn't he?
Yash fouled by Tom Davies then Matic does the same on Gana and only Matic is called.
He has on occasion. That was more common around the time I joined the LOB in 2010.
Ashley Williams takes a Chunk out of Lukaku.
Oh - how did The Chunk miss there? He did everything else right but then put it wide.
OH!!! A missed sitter that was wide by a Chunkwith just Pickford to beat after faking out Williams. It started with a great tackle by Micki on Schneid and then that great pass from him.
That effort blew chunks.
Michael Keane also with a return to OT along with Schneid and Wazza.
Everton have it in the net but it's ruled off. Phew!
OH!! Great close range save by De Gea from a header by Tom Davies's header off a great cross from Martina. He was offside.
LOL! Lukaku will certainly want that one back. He'll have other chances today.
Cheers! That would be great if he can atone on Sunday!
SAF in the stands with one of the actors from IT!
Le Sox tries on a few jokes - what do you reckon, mate?
Nice cut and thrust to the match now.
Oh - Lukaku was just put off there by Pickford.
The Chunk is put through , but stopped by a combo of Jags and Pickford.
The corner is out for another.
The corner is headed up into the air and the Hair somehow heads sideways from two yards out.
Le Socks is no match for the pun meister.
I'm off to start lunch prep ahead of the interval.
Cheers, mate. Hope it's a great meal.
A minute of stoppage time.
United one up at the half thanks to that long range rocket from Valencia.
Back after a munch or two for the second half. This one is going to United's plan albeit with UWS' prediction of a low scoring affair.
The second half is underway from OT
I was thinking the same as UWS. Welcome back, mate
OH!!! A super close range save by De Gea from Roon.
Oh dear - Roon nearly embarrassed his former teammates by scoring at the Stratford End.
Scunny hold on to win 0-1 at Donny Trump. Scunny up to sixth while Donny Trump is above the drop zone on gd.
The Brummies sacked Harry yesterday. The end of the road for Reddy?
Roon turns Bailey, but is tackled by Jones.
Rash with a shot well wide that started with a tackle won in midfield by Hair Bear.
Roon is starting to enjoy himself a wee bit too much now.
Did you hear about Harry?
Change of boots from The Chunk now.
The Chunk changes footwear. Will that makes a difference?
Roon flagged offside. We'll take that all day and all night.
Is Jose being Rash by bringing on Lindy?
Cometh the hour, cometh that change.
PHEW! Another great close range block from Roon in the twilight of his career.
Oh - Rooney nearly battles his way through to goal.
Williams picks up a yellow and United have a great chance from a free kick now.
Ashley Williams commits a foul a Mata of inches outside the United box.
Miki and Mata over the free kick now....
Oh - off the Sunday roast there from Mata!
Pickford does well to save a free kick from Mata then the rebound is cleared for a United corner that is headed away by Jags.
Roon would love to have a Sunday Roast eight days a week!
Sandro Ramirez, with the receding hairline, on for Tom Davies ,w ho has a full head of hair.
Ron has a problem with the hirsute, possibly?
Ron and Roon not necessarily a winning combo
Another free kick chance now.
Martina fouls Lindy near the touchline.
Oh - a Lindy shot takes a shot that's deflected over the bar.
Lindy has a shot deflected just over on a United counter.
Ander Herrera about to make a late appearance. I'd have Matic off - he offers nothing.
And just as I type that, Matic rifles one just past the post. Decent effort.
A long range effort from Matic is not too far off.
Calvert-Lewin comes on for Gana and Herrera comes on for Mata.
An attacking change from Fat Ron as Dominic Calvert-Lewin is Gana to come on. . More defensive from Jose . A Spanish swap as Herrera comes on. Will it Mata?
Big shout for a penalty against Williams on Lindy. Nothing doing from Referee Marriner.
