The Premier League Weekend Starts Here!
Morning, chaps. A number of us elected to skip the early one - Palace v. Soton - in favor of catching up on our sleep. So, I'm just waking up to the tail end of that one, with Soton leading 0-1. More importantly, we've got a full slate of better fixtures coming, including Liverpool hosting Burnley and Citeh away to Watford. I'll also have my eye on my beloved Leeds away at the Evil Den. And then we end up with Spurs at Swansea. So, pour yourself a strong cuppa and join me.
405 Comments:
So, Woy Hodgson starts with yet another loss at home. Palace become the first Premier League club to begin a season with five straight loss without having scored a goal. Oh dear oh dear.
Morning Boys
So glad we all slept in!
I will be here for the 10 o'clockers and some of the match from Wembley but I coach at Union College at 2 and will have to leave around half time
Tomorrow I can't watch United either!! Have to coach at RPI at Noon!!
I am really missing those other channels
Today, the two matches on at 10 don't excite me
Watford vs Man City
I just looked it up... actually only ONE game is being shown!
The West derby..... Brom v Ham is on Universo(?). What happened to CNBC or USA?
Bob, you really need to get the UK channel website working
Final Score at half time and MotD on BBC 1
Lots of other choices on the other channels
Classic video of Schmeichel getting scored against by Ince!
Next up is Liverpool v. Burnley at Anfield. The main news is the return of Philippe Coutinho. Here are the teams preparing in the tunnel at Anfield:
Liverpool (4-3-3) Mignolet; Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Klavan, Robertson; Milner, Can, Coutinho; Salah, Firmino, Sturridge. Substitutes: Karius, Lovren, Moreno, Wijnaldum, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Solanke, Henderson.
Burnley (4-4-1-1) Pope; Lowton, Tarkowski, Mee, Ward; Gudmundsson, Cork, Defour, Brady; Arfield, Wood. Substitutes: Legzdins, Long, Bardsley, Westwood, Walters, Barnes, Vokes.
Morning, UWS - loved the video of Ince and Schmeichal. Marvelous stuff!
You heard Kasper yelling at Alex (Bruce) too
Great stuff
I have Only Fools on the website going on right now... it's on all afternoon...I LOVE IT
I'll give that UK channel another try. It might not be possible until I get a new laptop. This one is at the end of its life.
I absolutely love it.... get a new laptop...you deserve it
No link on ESPN for the Millwall v. Leeds match. What do we have to do - lead the league or summit? Hull and Sunderland, who aren't league leaders, are featured. Grrrr!
On NBC Sports, we've got Watford v. Citeh. Here is the team news:
Watford (4-3-3) Gomes; Janmaat, Kabasele, Mariappa, Holebas; Doucoure, Cleverley, Chalobah; Carrillo, Gray, Richarlison. Substitutes: Karnezis, Wague, Zeegelaar, Capoue, Pereyra, Success, Deeney.
Manchester City (4-1-3-2) Ederson; Walker, Stones, Otamendi, Mendy; Fernandinho; De Bruyne, D Silva, Sterling; Jesus, Aguero. Substitutes: Bravo, Danilo, Mangala, Delph, Gundogan, B Silva, Sane.
Good morning, chaps. Back from walkies on a steamy morning. Looking to cool off with some action from Vicarage Road.
I thought that yesterday when I looked it up!!
Have you ever been to Vicarage Road?
I went to see Spurs with the son's of the owner of SAFEPAC
I have had a brain freeze... can't remember their names
Come on you HORNETS
MOT!!!!
Jeff will be pleased in a match between two teams relegated from the Football League as his lads won 1-2 at the Orient Express.
No - never did get to Vicarage Road. Would love to some day.
They're off from Viarage Road.
Morning, MUR - how are you, mate? Nice lie in?
I walked thru some allotments to get to it back then
Morning MUR
We're away at Vicarage and Citeh are right at already.
We passed through Watford on the way to Heathrow, but never stopped at Vicarage Road.
The Flynns ....I remember!!!
Cheers, Bob and Dave. Had a great lie in and watched the second of the match at Selhurst Park. Not exactly vintage stuff. Then walkies on a hot humid morning.
Jayne Mansfield on top at newly promoted Abe Lincoln, winning 0-1 at his house.
Walker runs into the box... of course...his cross is naff
Citeh scored five without reply at the end of last season, but it will be more of a challenge this time out
QPR take the lead at the Riverside.
Fernandinho heads over a corner from De Bruyne as the purple people eaters aim to take the lead.
What did you think of Champions League action this week? Apart from Liverpool, all of the English clubs romped it!
A powerful long range effort from Mendy is wide for Citeh.
Agreed. They did really well and it was not the worst result for Pool as they and Sevilla will probably go through from that group.
Millwall have had a really weird season. Some big wins and some big losses
As for Leeds, can you believe that the last time Leeds United conceded a league goal, I was sitting on my deck watching the computer sill blissfully ensconced in my summer hols in early August
Fernandinho straight to Gomes Addams after a less than Sterling miss kick.
Also strange that Leeds conceded only to the bottom club. Some early season colly wobbles?
Im sure you're a Wednesday fan today in Wales
Yeah - we've had an amazing run of it. Only those two goals on the first weekend conceded. Three wins on the trot now and six matches (540 minutes) without conceding a goal.
Wasn't it sunny about five minutes ago!!!
Exeter takes the lead vs Motley Crewe as do Grimsby vs Yeovil.
I honestly think it's that we were missing our big center Pontus Janssen on that first day. He's a titan.
Fawlty Towers take the lead on the long trek to Barrow.
I'd actually prefer a draw in Wales and a big win for us.
Rochdale takes the lead at the Fake Dons as do the Tangerines vs the Oxford Shoes.
An evil fixture in South Wales ?
A slow start to proceedings - no goals yet in the first ten minutes around the country.
Cambridge takes the lead vs Coventry as do Cheltenham vs Colchester and Barnet on the long trip to Carlisle.
Burton take a lead against Fulham
The Hornets have clearly been sent out by Silva to absorb pressure and try to hit Citeh on the break through their nippy new Brazilian winger. Or score through set pieces. Rain teeming down now.
You can give Wednesday two extra points just today!!!
Just one by a famous snooker player in the early match.
Liz Taylor will be pleased.
Oh - Aguero just misses by inches with his speculative lob.
United have been knocked off top after City kicked off and have a point
Watford could overtake us with a win
Chelsea could do the same as could Huddersfield
So, United won't be top at the end of the day. They will be overtaken by City or Watford for sure
Aguero goes on a solo run down the right and Gomes Addams felt like Uncle Fester as he was nearly beaten by an audacious chip.
It's very tight this early in the season. For all we know, Palace could finish in the top four at the end of the season.
Celic take the lad vs Ross County after being hit for five by Neymar's lads in midweek.
Celtic are glad to be playing Ross County rather than PSG today. They're 1-0 up.
Great challenge there on Sterling when it appeared that the Citeh man was in.
Sunderland lead at Hull
Brentford lead Reading
Fred says that the Black Cats have taken the lead at the Tigers
Early morning match already finished
The battle of the newly relegated league clubs
Leyton Orient 1 Harltlepool 2
Jeff will be happy
The Tangerines two up vs the Oxford Shoes and the Real Dons take the lead at Ewood Park. The Fake Dons tie it up vs Rochdale.
Aguero has a shot deflected for a corner.
Was that Murder at the Orient Express?
I heard that Fleetwood Mac is performing at Fratton Park. Is that true?
Yeovil tie it up at Grimsby while Chetenham go two up v Colchester and Swindon do the same vs Stevenage.
I'll ask my cousin... they live in sight of Fratton Park
The Toon take the lead vs the Harry Potters
oooh, very close by Watford...that was a great free kick
Fleetwood will be hoping for a Portsmouth "Landslide."
You were lured in by my pun. Pompey is hosting Fleetwood Town
Still annoyed about the the two dropped points against Harry Potter
Christian Atsu with the goal.
Bloody well hope not... PLAY UP POMPEY
Christian Atsu with that Newcastle goal, the first of the afternoon in the Premiership.
I think it will be a decent result over the course of the season, considering teams like the Arse come away from there empty handed.
Bob, why do you fall to the Punmeister's traps!!!!
Bob and Yellows will be pleased that the Canaries have taken the lead at Bramall Lane.
Bugger....one nil City
Great free kick...just like Watford's... but this goes in
GOAL! Ginger Winger swings a great free kick in and Aguero meets it with a bullet header.
0-1 Citeh!
GOAL AGUERO SCORES OFF A FREE KICK FROM DE BRUYNE. A GREAT DELIVERY AND WELL PLACED HEADER.
Watford fans are singing "1-0 to the Referee." Witty - but their side is losing, nonetheless.
Wolves are up near the top too....I was thinking of picking them to go up
I guess De Bruyne had a better delivery than the pun meister.
Holebas is booked for a chop on Ginger. Shocking tackle. Watford losing the plot here a bit.
Cholevas booked and attacked by Citeh players for a cheap shot on De Bruyne.
burnley ahead at Anfield....lovely jubbley
The Rams take the lead at Ashton Gate
For the second half, I will have to have Final Score and OFAH on at the same time!
I love the puns - I'm a cat on a hot tin roof for MUR's Richard Burton/Liz Taylor jokes.
Scott Arfield, the Scottish born Canuck international, with the goal
GOAL! Sergio Aguero knocks in his second!
GOAL !!! AGUERO WITH HIS AND CITEH'S SECOND.
Ruddy Norah...Aguero pops up again and scores his brace
Plenty of time for his third
BUGGER! POOL TIE IT UP MINUTES AFTER FALLING BEHIND.
Citeh are rampant now but Watford are crumbling defensively. Jesus brushed Janmaat aside with ease and then slipped the ball to Silva who knocked it through Gomez for Aguero to tap home.
0-2!
Mo Salah is ripping it up for the Reds these days. He's been a great signing for them.
City look like they're going to score every time they go forward
Far too easy for Citeh as Silva pressed Clever Boy into an error . Jesus got past Jan Mat and his cross was diverted by Silva for an easy tap in by Aguero.
Aguero is now level with Lukaku on four goals at the top. Mo Salah is on three.
Kate ties it up for the Cottagers at Richard Burton's place.
City have now equaled United GD advantage
Bradford City take the lead vs Rotherham as do Northants at Soutend on Sea. The Shrews do the same at Oldham
Wigan take the lead vs Bristol Rovers
Morecambe and Wise take the lead vs Newport County
Port Vale take the lead vs Forest Green in a relegation six pointer.
Three nil
Jesus
GOAL !!! JESUS ! CITEH GO THREE UP.
Bloody hell! It's 0-3! Gabby Jesus with the third one. He's on four goals now, too.
Offside?
That is an ominous sign that Citeh have a strike partnership on eight goals now.
Clver Boy is sure not doing us any favors as he was tackled again just outside his own box then Aguero put through Jesus, who beat fellow Brazi , Gomes Addams, with a great finish
Citeh scored five without reply on the last day of the Prem season . Will they match that?
Reddy or not, Harry's lads take the lead vs Ridsdale's chaps.
Not a Big Club take the lead at Evil Neil's lads in a really evil, vile match. Correct, Bob?
Elton isn't a happy chappy
The Teesiders tie it up vs QPR
The Guardian reporter at the Den says that Millwall are well on top. Don't like it.
Elton is saying, "Don't let the sun go down on me."
Off to the loo and then walkies.... before the second half starts around the country and watching Final Score
Agreed. Elton will be throwing a tantrum. He had an uncle that was a famous footballer.
Cheers, UWS. Have fun and hope you don't get as hot as Sparky and I did.
Enjoy your walkies, mate.
1-1 at the Riverside
Gary Hooper has scored in the top of the table clash against Cardiff. Not a Big Club 0-1 up.
The Fake Dons have come from behind to lead Rochdale 2-1 while Wasall take the lad vs Posh. Oldham tie it up in the taming of the Shrews.
That's is GOOD
Sorry, I missed your earlier update, MUR. I'd like a draw in that one. It is an evil match-up.
Rochdale have made it Desmond in MK while Pompey play up to a lead vs Fleetwood Mac.
Be greedy for Leeds mate... no matter who it is
A pair of minutes of stoppage time at Vicarage Road.
Noel Gallagher is in the stands as well. Elton is singing "I'm Still Standing," and he's singing back "Don't Look Back in Anger."
No probs, mate.
Northants go two up at Southend on Sea.
Celtic go two up vs Ross County
Citeh are three up at the half at Vicarage Road.
The half-time whistle comes at Vicarage Road and Watford would rather just have a shower and go home at this point. No way back.
I want to see Leicester get a win.
They are close to the drop zone but have played quite well
They won a home game
Lost a home vs Chelsea
Lost away to Arsenal and United
WOW!!! Gatafe is one up vs Barca at the half.
Back on at Vicarage Road now for the second half.
The second half is underway from Vicarage Road.
Still 0-0 at the Den - I need Leeds goals!
Clever Boy has been looking none of that as he coughed up possession for the last two Citeh goals. Did he forget who gave him his start ?
Are you surprised to see Barca trailing at Getafe at the half?
As it stands, we're two points up on Cardiff in second now, with Wolves and Not a Big Club on 15 points.
Wolves take the lead at Forest
Hudders takes the lead against the Foxes through Depoitre. If this result holds up, they'll be third tonight!
I guess that's not great news . Leeds were partners in relegation with Wolves the last two times they were relegated from the top flight. Partners in promotion this season?
That is a surprising scoreline in La Liga.
I suppose so.
WOW !!! A return to OT for Wazza tomorrow. Guess what's up for him?
Jamie Vardy has equalized for the Foxes from the penalty spot. He's on four goals now, too.
I loved the "Welcome Back Kotter" theme for that clash. Nice job, NBC!
The Tractor Boys take the lead vs Trotters to the Bog.
Lots of action in West Yorkshire, according to John Smith.
I missed that. It was one of favorite shows. Wazza is a lot like Arnold Horshack.
Watford fans livid that Chalobah got nothing for that clash in the box.
Richard Burton leads the Cottagers 2-1 while Bristol City ties it up vs the Rams.
Bayern go four up vs Mainz your own business.
They were portraying Rooney as the Gabe Kaplan character, which I suppose makes the United lads the Sweathogs.
Citeh going through quite a purple patch
Oh - Mendy whipped a ball in and Aguero could easily have touched it in.
That's ironic as the Toffees sure pl;ay like a bunch of sweathogs. Wazza sure has more notes from his mother than the rest of the United team combined.
Celtic three up vs Ross.
Two quick goals from the Seasiders who have come from two down to make it Desmond vs Northants
The Citeh keeper Ederson has a Nacho Libre style Mexican wrestling mask on, I suppose as a result of his clash with Sadeo Mane last weekend.
Christie McVie has tied it u for Fleetwwod Mac at Fratton Park.
Ederson was laughing so hard at Pool's performance that he was in stitches.
Shaquiri , like a Wizard in a Harry Potter tail.
Cheltenham now lead Colchester 3-1.
Bristol City have come from behind to lead the Rams 2-1 and Ridsdale's lads tie it up at Reddy's lads.
Come on, you Whites!!
Silva pulls a great save out of Gomez in the Watford goal.
Still 0-0 in the West Derby where the Hammers nearly scored from the halfway line in the first half with a chip off the bar. It must have been the altitude.
GOAL! Otamendi makes it four with a towering header from Silva's cross. Short corner routine.
GOAL !!! DEBRUYNE PLAYED A SHORT CORNER TO SILVA , WHO CROSSED AND IT WAS HEADED IN BY OTAMENDI
Weekend at Bernie's as he's on for Jesus.
Bayern have thrashed Mainz your own business 4-0.
De Bruyne replaced by Gundoghan
Some changes for Citeh now. Bernardo Silva and Gundoggan on and Gabby Jesus and Ginger off.
Ridsdale's lads now lead 1-2 at Reddy's lads. Bob will not be pleased.
Since the international break City have a combined score of 13-0 against Liverpool, Feyenoord and Watford. Cor!
Not keen on it.
It was 1-1 at the half between the Teesiders and QPR. The away team took a 1-2 lead then two quick goals from the Teesiders sees them lead 3-2. A brief visit from Desmond.
Pompey playing up as they now lead Fleetwood Mac 2-1
Ridsdale's lads helped you with a win vs Evil Neil in midweek. About time he did something helpful.
Apparently Jamie Vardy has missed from about four yards.
Ridsdale's lads now lead 1-3 at Reddy's lads.
Oh - how did Capoue miss that header?!
Capoo poo does the same for the Hornets with a free header from a corner.
You will be pleased to see Owl face miss every time.
Liverpool are battering Burnley at Anfield, but the score is still 1-1.
Jaap's chaps tie it up at the bee hive . Rocky wishes Canello would be as bolde.
I am, yes.
Troy Deeney on for Andre Gray
Aguero leads a Citeh break and his pass results in a less than Sterling missed sitter.
