Crunch Time for the US!
It's a huge night for the US, as they take on their main rivals for qualification Panama in Orlando. Simply put, this is a must-win for Bruce Arena's boys. Panama are currently in that last automatic qualifying spot, but the US could rob them of that with a big win tonight. A draw would not be enough. We would then need a win in T&T on Tuesday and even then would need help from Mexico. And who knows if they'd be in a charitable mood.
It's all poised for a big night, gentlemen. I'm going to settle in around 7pm as the coverage starts on ESPN2 and I'll look for you then. Join me here on the LOB for the usual banter, won't you?

Evening, everyone. I hope that you're looking forward to this one as much as I am. Here is the starting XI for the US:
Timmy, Yedlin, Gonzalez, Besler, Villafana, Bradley, Arriola, Pulisic, Nagbe, Jozy, Wood.
That looks like a cautious line-up to me. Nagbe and Bradley in the holding roles. The creativity will come from Pulisic. Not a lo of width either. Not sure at all.
Max Bretos, Kasey Keller and co pitch-side in Orlando tonight.
Ian Darke and Double T on the mics for the match.
The fans are certainly making themselves heard tonight. Definitely a home crowd for the US.
Jozy Altidore is limping on the pitch in the pre-match warm-ups.. Oh dear!
The Panama line-up for tonight:
Panama: Penedo; Murillo, R. Torres, Baloy, Ovalle; Barcenas, Gomez, Godoy, Quintero; G. Torres, Perez.
Yellow card watch: nine US players will miss Tuesday’s qualifying finale at Trinidad & Tobago should they pick up a yellow card tonight: Kellyn Acosta, Paul Arriola, DaMarcus Beasley, Alejandro Bedoya, Matt Besler, Michael Bradley, Geoff Cameron, Clint Dempsey and DeAndre Yedlin.
Apparently Dozy is going to carry on somehow. Not a good sign, though.
Is this important to the Panamanians? Uh...their bloody president is in the crowd. Where's our President? Not in Orlando, that's for sure.
The ref just smelled the ball for some reason as he grabbed it from the podium. Weird.
Teams coming out!
Quite a rousing version of the Star Spangled Banner along with fireworks. Can the match produce fireworks? We'll soon see.
A minute's silence for the victims of the Vegas mass shooting now.
Panama get us underway wearing all-white, the US in all red.
The pitch looks really wet for some reason. Patches of soggy turf, I think.
No Mendittos or Dahlgrens in the starting eleven? I'm worried.
Panama trying to get after the US right away - quick out of the traps.
Yes, not sure what's the deal with the pitch. Early chance.
Welcome, WHR - great to have you around. Are you confident?
Arriola had a chance there on the volley but got it all wrong, shanking it back across the area.
A furious pace to this match right from the off - very open.
Bradley can float one in now - cleared out.
But the chance comes to Wood - who puts it just wide!!!
Oh my, could've been one there.
Not at all happy with this pitch - it looks really chewed up as well as sodden.
I'm confident, yes. Thanks for hosting, Bob. Haven't reached out to you directly yet -- but have been thinking about you and Steve
Oh - Torres was nearly in there. Great flick on header from Perez.
YES! Pulisic you beauty!
Great finish!!!!!!!!
Pulisic was a bit fortunate to get onto that flick on by Wood, but he really put the afterburners on and rounded Penedo and slotted home from an acute angle.
1-0!
Thanks for your thoughts, mate - Steve and I have been getting a lot of love from the community. That's really helped.
Oh - Pulisic on another dazzling run. Should have dished off to Wood, though.
Another great chance there . . .
Corner now for the US - the open nature of this match is really benefiting the way that we play.
Some sort of argybargy in the box now - Besler is down.
Besler's got a cut on his eye - definite elbow. Why is that not a red card for Malloy?
Oh - from the corner, Jozy hammers a volley into the side-netting.
A pretty tasty Friday evening . . . Lauri cooking up a feast of pasta and eggplant and fresh tomatoes . . have your Star Hill Northern Lights on ice . . even a playoff baseball game for my beloved Nats.
What you drinking, mate?
Bad free kick to give away there. Set piece chance for Panama now.
Nice! Sounds like a great evening - enjoy, mate.
Chuck Todd on MSNBC was big upping the Nats game tonight.
Panama fighting way back into match now.
Perez was called for something there.
They're a handful, for sure. This one is a long way from over.
Really stretched at the back there. Phew!
YESSS!!!!!
Pulisic lays one on a plate for Jozy and it's 2-0!
Goalllll!!!!!
Great timing as you're right that Panama were digging themselves back into the match. It's a long way back for them now.
Oh - Wood was in there one-on-one but hit Penedo with his effort.
should've been a third for US there . . Wood allowed keeper to close
As long as we're attacking, we look good. But Panama look dangerous.
Clash of heads there between Gonzalez and a Gudoy. Nasty.
Early substitution for Panama. Cooper on.
Jozy in there but ruled offside.
Oh - Yedlin did well to track back there.
Oh - Timmy with a great save from Torres.
Commentators correct, our defense a little porous.
Perez is creating havoc in the box from set pieces. Keep it tight, lads.
Definitely - really shaky.
Malloy picks up a yellow card for hacking down Wood.
The free kick is cleared out for a corner now.
Okay, beer number two started. My commitment to my country? I will drink as many beer tonight as goals scored.
I think that Star Hill was the Richmond brewery that we used for our wedding. Not sure which variety was on tap, but it was a good 'un, I remember.
Not sure I'm that keen about Yedlin as a full-back.
I don't know why Bradley would be isolated if Nagbe is being played as a second defensive middle.
Oh - another great chance. Wood played Jozy in but he couldn't beat the keeper.
This match feels like it's 80 minutes in - really stretched.
Altidore has to do better, But here's a penalty!!!!
Yes! Penalty to the US - Bobby Wood chopped down!
Looked a bit soft, to be fair.
i'll take it - Jozy to take....no mistakes, lad.
Cheeeeeeeky!
Jozy takes...and pulls off a Panenka. Don't like it but it's 3-0.
Now Panama have a free kick chance. Phew - flicked header went over the bar. Dangerous again.
Uh-oh . . I'm only halfway through my second. . .
Well, well, well. I didn't bear to hope for this score-line at half-time.
I'm going to check on the Nats. Pick up with you for the second half!
One change for Panama at half-time - Baloy off
Enjoy, mate!
Pulisic is coming off for treatment. I agree with Double T - I wouldn't risk him. They don't need any more goals now. I'd have Geoff Cameron on. Or Bedoya.
Pulisic will soldier on, then.
Free kick now for Panama - Torres floats one in. Dangerous but Timmy handles the shot.
Looks like Dax McCarty is going to come on soon. He'll tighten things up.
Arriola is chopped down and now we've got a nice free kick chance.
Pulisic comes off sensibly - great ovation for him.
Oh - Arriola got behind the back four and rifled a shot that Penedo had to grab onto.
Oh - great run by Bobby Wood taking on several Panamanian defenders. Shanked his shot wide.
Another change for Panama. Abdiel Arroyo is on for the Blas Perez.
YESSSS!!!
Bobby Wood deserved a goal and he's got it. 4-0. It's a rout!
I agree with the commentators. I'm surprised that Panama have played it this way. I thought that they'd try to keep it tight and play for a draw that would have kept them in pole position going into their last match with the Ticos.
Deuce is coming on to replace Jozy. Nice move, Bruce.
Back now. Work call.
I may move over to the Nats game, Bob . . . three points in hand here. When do we play TNT?
The US fans are really enjoying it now.
T&T is Tuesday night, mate. Not sure about the telly coverage, though. Might have to do a dodgy link.
Enjoy the Nats game, mate - I see that it's still scoreless.
Oh - Arriola was in there from a great ball by McCarty. Good save, Penedo.
Now the Nats are down so I'll focus my energies there. Hope to reconnect with you on Tuesday. I'll be in North Carolina for work so should be able to.
Oh - Dempsey was nearly in there for his record-breaking goal. The crowd wants it.
Sounds good, mate - I hope the Nats can turn it around. The only thing left to watch here is Dempsey's quest for the record breaking goal.
That's it, then. Great win for tonight. Now they need another one in Trinidad on Tuesday night.
