Who's Up for Some More 4th Round Cup Action?
Thought that we'd exhausted the 4th Round Cup action yesterday? Think again, chaps. There are still two more matches left for us to enjoy this morning. Chelsea and Newcastle are up first, with a Premier League side's Cup scalp on the line. In the later one, league leaders Citeh travel to Evil Cardiff. I'd like a 0-10 win, don't you know? Join me to see it, eh?

Morning, chaps! Chelsea take on Newcastle in a competition the latter have little interest in and the former only do out of necessity. Who will make more changes? Whose goalkeeper will be more out of nick? These are the questions we much ask ourselves ahead of the game at Stamford Bridge.
The teams marching out at the Bridge now:
Chelsea: Caballero; Rudiger, Christensen, Cahill ; Zappacosta, Drinkwater, Kante, Alonso; Pedro, Batshuayi, Hazard.
Subs: Eduardo, Ampadu, Moses, Fabregas, Barkley, Musonda, Hudson-Odoi.
Newcastle: Darlow, Manquillo, Mbemba, Lascelles, Clark, Haïdara; Shelvey, Saivet, Hayden, Ritchie; Gayle.
Subs: Woodman, Yedlin, Dummett, Diamé, Atsu, Murphy, Joselu.
Referee: Kevin Friend
We're underway at the Bridge, both teams wearing their traditional kits, thankfully. Tony Jones and my old LUFC chum Tony Dorigo on the mics today.
A very mild and sunny day in that there London today. Absolutely perfect for football, as Chelsea are proving as they have not given Newcastle a kick so far.
Morning boys
I was in the loo for the kick off
Newcastle starting to play a bit now - and why not? I know that the convention wisdom is that relegation-threatened clubs should focus solely on their league form. But I've always considered a good Cup run to be an excellent morale-booster.
So, I'll have an away win and a home win today please but it must be in that order!
It would be great, as a United fan, to have City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and Leeds all out of the Cup
Did you see that short vid I texted you with that United fan?
Morning, UWS - somehow no one scored while you were taking care of business. What's happened to the Nocito Curse?
I didn't see it mate? Was it on WhatsApp?
Zappacosta is down receiving treatment after a clash while he was crossing.
No, I texted it to you and David
You're hopeless about texts sometimes!!!
I'll have a look - I hate my phone. Emails are so much better.
Now it's Hazard down for the count. Surely Kevin Friend's patience has worn out and he'll start brandishing some cards soon.
Yes, Mbemba picks up the match's first yellow card.
Free kick chance for the hosts
Looks like Hazard is going step up and take
The wall looks really far away.... Edin still manages to hit it
Hazard takes and it's straight into the wall. Not a lot of guile in that one.
I would think Newport County players got the result they really wanted. It would have been amazing to beat Spurs but then they could have been knocked out in the Fifth Round by Rochdale! This way, they can actually say I play in the FA Cup made it all the way to Wembley
Oh - were you talking about the "Citizen Smith" clip? Yeah - I commented on that one. One of my favorites, of course! "Power to the People!"
Chelsea do the modern thing and pass the ball around the back and give away a chance. Newcastle should have done better
We would have been lambasted if we did that in our day
Modern Day crap again
Nope.
I'll send you the video again
Just sent it again
Great cross and shot there
Who'da thunk it... get the ball wide and cross it
Danger
Oh - marvelous save by Willy Cabs from Shelvy there at the near post.
Nice one, mate. I've got to check out that Joe Scarborough show. I quite enjoy his "Morning Joe" political show on MSNBC. He's of course far too conservative for me but the chat is fun.
So the final sixteen in Cup so far
1 Man U
2 Sheff W
3 Leicester
4 Hull
5 Brighton
6 Coventry
7 Sheff U
8 Southampton
9 Wigan
10 West Brom
11 Spurs Newport
12 Notts Swansea
13 Millwall Rochdale
14 Hudders Brum
15 Chelsea Newcastle
16 Cardiff Man C
Hate f**king Leeds
I've just tried to look for it on my system in order to DVR it but can't find it anywhere. I'll have to do a deeper search when the match isn't on.
I would love to see Chelsea and City fall today
I'd love Warnock to really stick it to Pep. Get him and his players riled up
Bugger
Chelsea take the lead
Batty with the goal with a quick break
GOAL! Bat boy knocks in the opener for the Blues.
That was a great lay off by Alonso... he always gets in the box
More than most strikers
That was all started by a lovely through ball by Pedro. From that point, it was all over for Newcastle.
You're right - Alonso is a real attacking threat for them.
Newcastle were doing quite well before that goal
Chelsea could have been knocked out in the last round to the Canaries... going thru on pens
Just knock them out TOON
Decent effort saved
Shoot more often
I'd love to see it - I don't expect to. Nice to see them knocked out by the Arsenal in the League Cup, though.
Oh - Rudiger bends one and isn't too far away!
GOAL! Bat boy gets his brace after a significant deflection off the defender. Unlucky for Darlow who was committed.
2-0 Chelski!
Just as I finished making my cheese on toast
Batty scores again with a wicked deflection
Newcastle have been more dangerous and are two down
Good morning, Bob and Dave. Sorry for not joining you in the first half. I had a late lie in. I did see Bat Man's second goal.
Morning MUR
Has your weather settled down?
Yes. It has. After the late match, I had to take an alternate route to go tutor because some of the streets were flooded as well as my back yard. It's overcast and drizzly, but much better. Thank you for asking.
Our weather turned mild and we had some rain and most of our snow is gone
No snow expected for the week either
WOW !!! That's quite a bonus this time of the year. You must be delighted.
The second half is underway from SB.
Teams out for the second half
I am going to have to take Shadow soon... he's getting antsy
Morning, MUR - how are you, mate? Chelski are cruising this one so far. Hard to see Newcastle getting back into it.
You and Shadow should enjoy the more pleasant weather.
Doing great. How are you, Bob?
Oh - Pedro nearly adds third - and probably should have at least hit the target.
Pedro shoots about a foot over after a cross from Rudiger was poorly cleared.
The tempo and noise have certainly dropped in the half both on the pitch and in the crowd.
Doing alright, mate. Looking forward to a slightly less hectic work week this week.
Same here after the storm yesterday. I will be working my new normal work schedule that I made for myself.
A quick free kick nearly catches the Chelski defense out but it's cleared.
Oh - great volley on the full there by Alonso, but Darlow saved well.
Darlow makes a decent save off a powerful volley from Marcos Alonso off a cross from Zapacosta that seemed to have a lot of hang time.
So are you planning a big retirement bash next year? Let us so just in case we're able to make it down to celebrate with you.
A Chelsea counter does not pose a Hazard due to the offside trap being in Toon, unlike our weather yesterday
Even though Newcastle have had their chances to get back into this one, Chelski look capable of cutting through the Newcastle defense.
Yes. I would definitely like a retirement party with LOBers pleasant. It should be a great occasion.
Joselu is on for Dwight " Crystal" Gayle.
Joselu is coming on for Newcastle, which might result in a turnaround in fortunes for Newcastle but almost certainly will not. But we can all find out together. Obviously, Gayle is the man going off. He tried, which is the key.
I do have a question. Will we be having an LOB Reunion this Summer during the World Cup?
Hazard wins a corner off of Manquillo.
The corner is headed out and Drinkwater has a long range effort deflected for another corner. Darlow catches the next corner.
Saivet fouls Zapoacosta just outside the Toon box.
I don't know, mate. I know that Gooner is off to Portland, OR for the first week or two of the tournament. He'll be taking in matches with our old LHS chums Brett Thompson and Mark Enderle. I've been trying to pull them into the LOB orbit for years now.
Other than that, I haven't heard.
GOAL !!!! ALONSO SCORES FROM THE FREE KICK TO PUT CHELSEA THREE UP. CURLED OVER THE WALL AND IN THE UPPER 90.
Alonso fires in a marvelous free kick for #3 and the match is effectively over.
Now with Chelsea three up Hazard can be rested and her's replaced by Ross Barkley, who made his Chelsea debut midweek against the Gunners in the League Cup.
Perhaps we can do something on a smaller scale or a larger scale during a different part of the tournament.
I have a trivia question for you. Which two current Toon players were signed from Forest at the same time?
Jacob Murphy on for Manquillo.
Kante replaced by young Welshman, Ethan Ampadu.
Jacob Murphy is coming on for Manquillo. We can assume he is not coming on at right-back. Kante off for Ampadu, too.
Ampadu nearly scores a fourth for Chelsea , but Darlow rushes out tot block a one on one effort.
Darlow tips over an effort from a narrow angle from Zapacosta off a pass from Ampadu
The final roll of the dice from Conte is a Chelsea debut for Seventeen year old Hudson-Odoi , on for Pedro.
The final roll of the dice from Raffa as Christian Atsu is on for Isaac Hayden
Chelski old boy Christian Atsu gets a warm reception from the Bridge as he trots on to replace Hayden.
I'm mulling over that question, mate. I think Jacob Murphy is one of them but I can't think of the other one. Maybe Matt Ritchie?
Bat Man goes on a solo run in search of a hat-trick. Goes past two players then shoots against Darlow's shins.
Oh - Bat boy did so well there at the by-line but then didn't have many options. Shot into the keeper from close range.
Sorry, mate. Ritchie was signed from the Cherries and Jacob Murphy from the Canaries where his twin brother, Josh, is still playing.
Oh dear - I'm rubbish at that one, then. Let me guess some others.
The clue is that both Toon players are currently playing in this match
Bat Man denied his hat-trick as another effort is blocked by Darlow, making him look like the Boy Wonder.
Time just running out here - this one was over in the first half. A consummate victory for Chelski. Newcastle will have to go back to the drawing board for their relegation battles to come.
Play is stopped as there's a clash of heads between Joselu and Rudiger.
The final whistle has been delayed by a clash between Rudiger and Joselu. Both have finally found their feet again and will look forward to a nice soak in the communal bath now.
It's over and Chelsea easily defeat the Toon 3-0 in an unhappy return to the Bridge for Raffa and Atsu
I'm off to take Sparky walkies ahead of the late match
I missed the entire second half with walkies and stuff
I was listening to the match on the radio
Newcastle did nothing during the second half!
Bloody Fox can't be bothered to show both matches
I have to turn it over to FS2 and watch it non HD
Buggers
I have BBC 1 on to watch the build up to the match
No striker playing for City
Sterling playing up top
I hate the crap.... where are striker partners!!!
They'll still score 5!!
What is with Newcastle?
Why don't they try and buy some players?
Every team has broken their transfer record as of late with all this silly money flying around
Newcastle? NO
Their transfer record fee... Michael Owen followed by Alan Shearer
Teams in the tunnel on the Beeb
Commercial on the Crap...I mean Fox
Welcome back, UWS. How was the walkies today? Nice day here in WNY.
Team news out of the Millennium this afternoon:
Cardiff: Etheridge, Ecuele Manga, Morrison, Paterson, Richards, Grujic, Ralls, Bennett, Mendez-Laing, Hoilett, Zohore. Subs: Tomlin, Feeney, Pilkington, Halford, Damour, Murphy, Bogle.
Man City: Bravo, Walker, Kompany, Otamendi, Danilo, De Bruyne, Fernandinho, Gundogan, Bernardo Silva, Sterling, Sane. Subs: Stones, Aguero, Mangala, Adarabioyo, Ederson, Zinchenko, Diaz.
Referee: Lee Mason
Teams coming out of the tunnel
I'm with you, mate. I hate to see Citeh playing striker less today. Aguero on the bench.
It was pleasant
Back om walkies and ready fort he late match between Evil Neil's lads and Citeh
I am going to keep my BBC coverage going even though it is well behind
I want to listen to half time stuff
You won't be surprised to hear that I would like to see a double-digit win for Citeh today. No love for Cardiff, Neil Warnock or the Chinese owners. A pox on them.
Still a pretty strong Citeh lineup. Despite the pre-match pleasantries between Evil Neil and Pep , A prettu strong lineup , indicating Pep wants to stick it to Evil Neil.
I also agree with you on the Toon. Ashley must have access to more cash but he doesn't ever spend it. No wonder fans want him out.
A moment's applause for Jimmy Armfield.
The match is underway from the Welsh Capital.
My link is 44 seconds behind the TV
How would you describe the color of Citeh's kit today - magenta?
I agree about the strikers . What better way to fight evil than to have your best weapons
Guy Mowbry and Mark Lawrenson on the mic
I would say Magenta, the color , not the Rocky Horror Show character.
Nice break down the right... not a great cross. Newport were better
Really open start to this one, end to end. I hope we get the kind of goals that we did with the Liverpool v. WBA match yesterday.
Agreed about Mike Cashley. I feel sorry for the Toon fans , whop deserve better than an owner , who could care less about the team/.
I have a quiz question. Are you ready? Here we go. Neil Etheridge, the Cardiff keeper, was born and raised in London, but is an international keeper for which country?
Bravo has to remove a large inflated footie ball from the playing surface.
Did you ask UWS the earlier trivia question about the Newcastle players, MUR?
Etheridge blocks a close range effort from Silva then Gundogan is fouled about a foot outside the box.
Free kick to City in a very dangerous position
More of kick the floor than anything else
Good chance for Gundogan but saved well by Etheridge.
This is a tougher questions, but I can ask the Toon question. Here goes: Which two current Toon players were signed from Forest at the same time?
I'd have to guess Norn Ireland for Etheridge - am I right?
Bugger
One nil
Stupid walls
GOAL !!!!! A CHEEKY FREE KICK FROM KDB IS SIDE FOOTED IN AT THE NEAR POST , COMPLETELY DECEIVING eTHERIDGE IN THE cARDIFF GOAL AND EVEN THE ENTIRE WALL.
GOAL! A really cheeky free kick from Ginger Winger.
0-1 Citeh! More, please!
As Guy Mowbray said, so simple, yet it completely fooled the Cardiff side.
Sorry, mate. Not even close. Not even the correct continent. He's been the starting keeper for about six years for this country.
Those free kicks are quite similar in style to the Panenka penalty. Just like goalkeepers have to move in order to have any chance of stopping a penalty hit in the corner, walls must jump to stop a free kick that's curled up high. In both cases, the player who strikes it looks really silly if it doesn't come off.
I don't know two Toon players!!
Alright, then. How about New Zealand?
Lee Mason calls Ralls for a foul on an attempted Cardiff counter.
Closer , but still somewhat off, Bob.
Australia
The Oz?
Any guesses on the two Toon players? They played today against Chelsea.
De Bruyne is running the show at this point and City look In The Mood. I hope that they score 15.
Moirrison fouls Danilo. Cardiff challenges are not malicious, just mistimed and off the pace.
The problem I've got is that I'm assuming that it has to be two British players, but it possibly isn't. I could be, say, Mbemba and Haidara, for all I know.
The free kick is off the wall and a Cardiff player misses his kick as it's out for a citeh corner.
The Toon players are both British
Oh - Hoilett thinks he's scored - did he? Where's the VAR?
Was that a goal? I guess not!
Is there goalie technology in the Cup?
Of course Fox are so rubbish that they nearly missed that almost-goal by Hoilett while they were showing the goal again for the umpteenth time from the umpteenth angle.
VAR sucks but the goal line technology is great in the Prem
They don't have it in the Cup?
Long throw
Top teams can't handle them
Junior Hoilett, the Canadian international, nearly ties it up against the run of play as Bravo fumbled his shot , but it didn't cross the line.
Alright, that helps. I know it's not Shelvy because he came from Pool. It's also not Gayle as I think he came from Palace. And Kieran Clark came from Villa. So, how about Darlow and Hayden?
Cardiff doing well here
City can't handle being attacked
Why don't teams do it against them
He's not the stating keeper for the Aussies. Matty Ryan , of the Seagulls is, but it's in the same confederation.
Darlow is correct, but not Hayden.
This match is fizzing. Bot sides have come to play, for sure. Should be plenty of goals in this one, hopefully for Citeh and not Evil Cardiff.
At least I got one; how about you, UWS?
I hate Evil Neil, but credit to his side for making a game of it.,
Fox finally shows the GL tech
I don't think I could name any Toon players at the moment
What country does Neil Etheridge represent. Australia is incorrect, but is in the same confederation as the country he represents. His ;last name will not help answer the question at all.
This player would communicate with Darlow quite a bit during a match due to their positions on the pitch.
Crikey, that is a head scratcher. Australia are in the Asian Confederation, I believe. Yes - his name must be a real distraction. How about India?
Samoa
City think they are two up but no
Ref has his flag up and there is no VAR... good
Sane offside being in keeper's eye line
GOAL !!!!CLASSIC CITEH OR IS IT AS BERNIE SILVA SCORED ON A CITEH COUNTER OFF A SHOT FROM CARDIFF STRIKER ZOKORE.
Bernardo Silva rips one in from the top of the box and thinks he's scored a brilliant goal but it's been ruled out. I suppose that Sane might have been in the line of the keeper in an offside position. He's going to get a thump from Bernardo at half time. Shame.
Citeh players are still chattering about the goal. Meanwhile they've got a free kick.
VAR was used to make an IN Sane decision. It's disallowed because Sane was in an offside position because he was supposedly interfering with the keeper. There was no way Etheridge was going to save that. VAR not working!
BBC commentator is completely confused
He still thinks the goal was allowed
They took a goal kick he's saying.... what's up? What's going on?
Now what's Lee Mason doing? I suppose he's explaining the situation to Pep.
No, the VAR isn't being used today
The free kick from Gundogan was just over.
He's threatening to send off Pep.
The replay seems to back up Lee Mason there. Not quite sure what Sane thought he was doing running across the line of the shot.
I still don't see how Sane was interfering with the keeper?
Guy and Mark think it wasn't offside
long range effort from Sterling is just over.
Was I right with Samoa?
It's a corner as it must have taken a nick off of someone. The corner from Sane is headed away
No . Samoa is incorrect, but the correct part of the world.
New Caledonia?
No, but correct geographic region.
BUGGER! The announcer just gave away the answer. You two don't get credit.
Phillipines!!
Bugger
Sterling doubles City's lead
GOAL! Raheem Sterling adds a second goals for Citeh with a rare headed goal.
GOAL !!!! STERLING WITH A RARE HEADED GOAL OFF A CROSS FROM SILVA AFTER KDB HAD BEEN WELL TACKLED., CITEH NOW TWO UP.
Sterling better be belting the ball in during June and July!!!!
The Phillipines is correct, but the announcer stated that before you two did , so no credit.
I suppose you can forgo the strikers if you play like Citeh. They've got loads of weapons, haven't they? But how do you allow a shrimpy player like Sterling score a header against you? Really poor from Evil Cardiff.
Me no hear nothing
Me get points
Agreed. Harry better be Kane and Able and some Sterling England performances are needed in Russia.
You snooze, you lose.
A cross from Danilo is too high after Sane took too long to shoot as Cardiff were caught on another counter off another blocked shot.
LOL! I would have never guessed that he was Filipino.
I agree, UWS - I sick of these players like Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Raheem ripping it up for their clubs in the Prem and then stinking it up for England in the summer.
