Sunday Morning Coming Down
A very good Sunday morning to all of you. We've got two very interesting Premiership matches on tap this morning. All of the pundits are chattering about the late one between the two most exciting sides in the league - Liverpool and City at Anfield - however, before that is the Arsenal road trip to the South Coast to meet Bournemouth. Join me for all of the fun this morning, eh lads?
214 Comments:
This is the first match for Arsenal in the post-Alexis Sanchez era; the Chilean hasn't even traveled with the side, which obviously means he's moving along.
Teams in the tunnel now at the Vitality:
Bournemouth: Begovic, Francis, Steve Cook, Ake, Adam Smith, Lewis Cook, Gosling, Daniels, Ibe, Fraser, Callum Wilson. Subs: Boruc, Surman, Pugh, Arter, Afobe, Mousset, Simpson.
Arsenal: Cech, Chambers, Mustafi, Holding, Bellerin, Xhaka, Wilshere, Maitland-Niles, Iwobi, Welbeck, Lacazette. Subs: Mertesacker, Ramsey, Ospina, Walcott, Kolasinac, Elneny, Nketiah.
And we're set to go here, with Bournemouth in their traditional kit and Arsenal in their hideous blue fade away it. Jon Champion and Andy Townsend on the microphones.
Oh - Maitland-Niles rockets a shot off the crossbar. Nearly his debut goal for the Arsenal.
Now it's Iwobi who tests Begovic from close range. Arsenal on top here in the early going.
Bournemouth have a chance to attack through Jordan Ibe but the former Liverpool man fails to produce anything.
Morning Bob
Sorry I am 14 minutes late
Some of the websites say that Sanchez is heading to Old Trafford.
I am stunned.
Will he be stifled by Jose?
Now it's Callum Wilson with a chance to break. Arsenal are suddenly a bit sloppy giving the ball away in midfield.
Morning, UWS - how are you, mate?
Yes - the odds are on Alexis joining United now. How do you think he'll fit in at Old Trafford?
I think he is a great player! I hope he could fit in
Now, United would make sure he signs a long term contract before they buy him, right?
As I said yesterday, the #7 shirt is open
Both sides look as if they can score. I'm surprised that we haven't seen a goal in the first quarter of an hour.
Dan Gosling is booked for simulation.
That is true. So who in the current United set-up gets elbowed out of the way to make room for Alexis? Lindgard? Rashford? Miki?
Jack Wilshere appears to want to make a point today after his loan spell with the Cherries last season.
At some point there was talk of Miki going the other way
He has been a real disappointment
I don't want Martial to leave
Talk of Virgil Van Dyke out injured already for Liverpool
Could Liverpool actually beat City? This is the one of the matches where City could be threatend
Yeah - that's a shame - he looked good for them the other week.
At a certain point, you've got more attacking midfielders at United than you really want to have on expensive contracts. There are probably still some on the books that I've forgotten about.
Speaking of which - wasn't it a good move to flog Welbeck to Arsenal? He was surplus for you lot and hasn't really done it at the Arsenal.
Yes it was
I didn't feel bad about the move at the time
Attacking midfielders? Why don't they attack!!
I hate the one up top crap... players need support
Oh - Welly was nearly in there on goal. Well saved Begovic!
Welbeck almost in!
Well saved
Header just wide
I do, too. I'd love to see a successful side play a strike partnership. Leicester did for a while during their title run but it didn't stick. Why not run Lukaku and Martial up top together?
Still, a near post corner
They are dangerous one out of hundred times but that is all we see
When United get a corner, I never think they could score from it
Unlike the days, of Bruce, Pally, Vidic, Rio and co
And another near post corner
DAMN modern day coaches
Bournemouth with set piece that comes to nothing
No team is very dangerous with set pieces any more
The teams that are, WBA, get lambasted for it being the only way they can score
The Cherries go very close
Oh - great block by Chambers as Adam Smith wound up a shot.
I think that is a pen
Ibe ges the ball at the top of the box and has no clue what to do with it
A minute of stoppage time after a half full of incident but no goals.
Half-time comes at the Vitality. 0-0. Not good enough for the Arsenal if they want to challenge for the European spots.
Half time
First comment from Rebecca.. about the could be penalty
Why does everyone have to point out the controversy right away
The players are back out at the Vitality. And we're underway.
I agree with you about the fake controversy stuff. It's as if they've got nothing else to talk about at half-time.
GOAL! Bellerin score...just about...!
missed the very beginning of the half
I walk in the room as the Gunners are celebrating
Strange goal this, but after a wonderful move. Iwobi played a brilliant ball through to the full back who just about beat Begovic. The keeper got a chunk of it and I was surprised that Francis didn't try to hack the ball off the line.
0-1 Arsenal!
Been looking thru some old stuff this morning with Kathy
Just found quite a few ticket stubs
Do you want some pictures of matches we went to?
Xhaka is booked for terminating a weaving run from the lively Ibe. No complaints. He's good for a booking just about every match.
Just sent a picture of my ticket stubs
Sure thing! I'd love to see them.
Now I am going to look up all the scores
Sent them to my phone? I'm just charging it in the kitchen so I'll go grab it.
Marvelous memories, mate. I remember England v. Brazil (not a classic Brazil side, to be fair) and of course England v. Argentina, with Maradona at his best.
Just texted you a picture and the scores
Prices in Pounds Sterling
Ipswich 7
England 4, 6, 3.50, 3.50, 6. 50, 5 and 4
They were World Champs at the time
Im now going to youtube the matches
THE CHERRIES TIE IT UP!!!
Look what happens when there is a decent cross!!
Who'da thunk it!!
GOAL! The Cherries strike back through Callum Wilson!
Not sure why Cech felt that he had to come for that one. Wilson nipped in ahead of the cross and tucked home nicely.
1-1!
Dan Gosling might be in trouble here - he was booked in the first half. Just a bollocking.
Get a man wide
Cross the ball
Score the goal
GOAL! Oh my! The Cherries have turned it around! It's Jordan Ibe with his debut goal for Bournemouth!
WOW... BOURNEMOUTH TAKE THE LEAD!!!!
Ibe with his first Cherry goal
What a turnaround
Steve must be having kittens
This would be a tremendous win for the Cherries lifting them nearly into mid table on 24 points. Not so for Arsenal, who would drop five points behind both Liverpool and Spurs in 4th and 5th respectively. They'll be hoping for a big loss for Liverpool at Anfield later on.
It was 9-0
It was in December of 1982
I was definitely there but you had gone off to Boston
Oh - supersub Theo Walcott was nearly in on goal but ruled offside. Arsenal still have the ability to get this one back.
I think he's just about given up on this season. Although, they could easily get into the League Cup Final.
Luther Blissett with a hat-trick
Mark Chamberlin... dad of the Ox with a goal too
I hope they do
As you said, Bournemouth are in dire need of these three points
It's going to have to be a last ditch effort now.
Those three points will really put some pressure on those below Bournemouth, particularly Southampton, Brighton, Newcastle and Huddersfield.
senseless subbing
Watching England stuff on youtube
Crossing... a lost art
4 added minutes
Senseless subbing added another minute on top of that
I hope Arsenal score in the 5th minute to serve Bournemouth right
Time must surely be up soon. Yes - there it is. Eddie Howe's boys have done themselves a lot of good today. Condolences to the Gooner for a bad loss. I'm off for a shower.
That is it
Bournemouth have beaten Arsenal for the first time ever
Last season they were 3-0 up but couldn't manage it
This season they were 1-0 down but could
I am off for walkies
I'll be back for the big one
I'm back from a lovely Sunday shower for the biggie. Here are the teams coming out at Anfield:
Liverpool: Karius; Gomez, Lovren, Matip, Robertson; Can, Wijnaldum, Oxlade-Chamberlain; Salah, Firmino, Mane. Subs: Mignolet, Alexander-Arnold, Milner, Klavan, Lallana, Ings, Solanke.
Manchester City: Ederson; Walker, Stones, Otamendi, Delph; Gundogan, Fernandinho; Sterling, De Bruyne, Sane; Aguero. Subs: Bravo, Danilo, Mangala, Zinchenko, Diaz, Bernardo, Silva.
Referee: Andre Marriner.
A win for Liverpool today would be a real tonic to the Reds, lifting them above Chelski into third. A really big win would really turn the title race upside down.
We're about to get underway. Both sides in their proper kits. Arlo White alongside his Sunday pals Graeme Le Sox and Lee Dixon.
I am back after a chilly walk
Anfield is having a minutes applause for Liverpool's ex #1 Tommy Lawrence. He was minding the goal before Ray Clemence came in
Liverpool would get closer to United with a win but I want them to win anyway
Nice tribute to Tommy Lawrence. I'm not old enough to remember him.
City haven't won at Anfield in Yonks
Wonder who won the toss
Liverpool attacking the Kop in the first half
City won the toss and stuck it to Pool
On paper this should be a cracker, the most entertaining match-up in the league this season. Let's hope they go for it!
Arsenal should put all their eggs in the Europa League basket!!
The Manchester City away fans haven’t waited long to point out that Raheem Sterling is top of the league.
Liverpool have a chance there... blew the chance
Oh - an early chance there for the Reds. Mane was nearly in but couldn't control it. Salah took over and it was well blocked by Stones.
Liverpool are seeing most of the ball early on. City are happy sitting off.
I agree with you about Arsenal - it's their best route back to Europe, let alone the CL. On current form, they'd likely miss out on Europe altogether!
Teams going forward to start
That's a good sign
Europa League is winnable... United proved it last season with a naff team
Sterling takes a tumble...nothing given
what a dive... that is a bookable offense after the fact
Sterling goes to ground a bit too easily. He's already the pantomime villain today, so that won't help matters.
WOW....THE OX HAS SCORED FOR THE REDS
GOAL! The Ox finally comes good for Liverpool! What a stunning strike!
Great goal
That should open this match up nicely - great goal for this match.
Classic
Stoke striker Said Berahino showed up at Old Trafford this afternoon in his game day tracksuit.... match is tomorrow night!
If United are buying Sanchez then get it done!!
Let him play tomorrow
Sanchez didn't play against Forest so he isn't cup tied
Would be for the CL tho
End to end stuff now - just as the doctor ordered.
I wish United played like Liverpool...we used to
I agree - why wait - get him in the team!
So is The Ox the new member of the Fab Four?
City inches away from an equalizer
He was offside anyway
Oh - great move from Citeh through Sterling and Ginger Winger. Ball in is perfect but Aguero just can't get there.Liverpool are seeing most of the ball early on. City are happy sitting off.
Arsenal could be the carbon copy of United last season
Finish outside the top four, win the League Cup and Europa League
See my Berahino comment?
What a numpty
Oh - Sane had a go and the deflection could have gone anywhere!
Sane with a shot..deflected... wide
Liverpool starting to be pinned back
Are they sitting back?
GO FORWARD
LOL! I missed it - what a clanger from Saido. Don't they travel together as a team?
Delph is down needing some treatment now.
Danilo will have to replace the LUFC Academy man.
Seems to be staying on
Teams can't sit back against City.
That plays right into their hands
If you don't sit back, City might score but so will you!!
Looks like he is going to come off
Not every move has to start from the back and passing it around
Kicking to a striker is OK to do!
Delph is coming off now
I agree - teams need to mix it up a bit more. Everyone is still in the thrall of the Barca tiki taka approach.
Mane knocks a pass through to Firmino, but the Brazilian’s touch is slack. Ederson mops up.
Edison boots it the full length of the pitch
Just noticed that Villa did the thing Arsenal could do and win at the City Ground yesterday in the late one> They are up to fourth
I picked them to go up
I had chosen Wolves a few times but not this one I think
I picked Villa, Leeds and Fulham
Yikes...you picked Sunderland, Norwich and Leeds
We definitely lost some ground with Villa yesterday. It's looking more and more like it's just 5th and 6th up for grabs now in the Championship.
GOAL! Sane with a super strike to beat Karius at the near post!
Damn it!!
Sane equalizes.... keeper beaten at the near post
Great first touch off the chest. They should have channeled him in on his weaker foot but they allowed him to go wide and rip one in.
1-1!
Wow... Gooner picked Derby, Wolves and Leeds
The Ox wins the ball back... fails to get the cross over
What a shocker
I am a numpty. I won the first PPP but since then I haven't come close!
Front post corner again...sigh
You should get extra points for picking a Champion actually finishing rock bottom
2 added minutes
Great action at both ends, even at the end of the half.
LOL! Yeah - I should. I also predicted Leicester getting relegated the year that they were champions!
Down goes Mane... typical modern day move
Get touched from behind... go down... free kick
Half time
Entertaining half
That's it for the first half then. A thriller so far. More of the same please in the second half.
Lunch has arrived - I'll be in and out for a moment.
Missed the start of the second half
Working on a closet upstairs
GOAL.... outmuscled Stones and a lovely finish
He'll be in the book for taking his shirt off!
GOAL! Bobby Firmino fires Liverpool back into the lead with a lovely little dink over Ederson.
Lovely finish!!
ooh, given away... Mane... off the post!!!
All teams should pressure City.... ANOTHER ONE!!!
Don't sit back... continue to pressure!!!
CIty's defenders are not that good!!!
Great finish!!
I guess I picked the right time to come to the match for the second half
I fear Liverpool are going to sit back now. They really shouldn't
Exactly, City will keep playing this way... keep pressuring them
I hate that I am enjoying the Liverpool way!
Actually, the were good to watch in the 70s and 80s when I was watching them
This is exactly what Liverpool have deserved - they've been brilliant today. Loads of weapons on the pitch - and Salah hasn't scored...yet.
Useless free kick by Pool
4-1!!!
Great finish!!!
PRESSURE PRESSUR PRESSURE
Oh what a goal from Salah! A perfect lob over Ederson!
Shut up LeSox... you want players to fall down
Could United cut the gap to 12...then 9 then... who knows
4-1 Liverpool - what a tonking!
Useless by Edison...this is what teams need to do!!!
Arsenal fans will be happy with this score
Sterling in the book
Anfield loves that
One more goal and Liverpool will be level with United on GD.
One more goal and Liverpool will be 2nd
Sterling being subbed
Above United on goals scored
I can't believe that there are still 15 minutes left.
What a season it would... United Pas 47 GD 29, Liverpool 47 28 Chelsea 47 25, Spurs 44 25
BLOODY CITY... 62 48
I wonder what Jose Mourinho is making of this.
How about... ATTACK
Pressure Ederson and he will make mistakes!!
He's not an Edison
To their credit, Citeh are still trying to get into this one.
Great comments on BBC
Adam: As a Man United fan, I literally have no idea how to feel about this game right now!
Ed: Philippe Coutin-who?
Emre Can off - Milner on. Second LUFC Academy player of the match.
Wenger says Sanchez's future settled inside 48 hours...too long
I always thought that the smart move was to sell Coutinho for the silly money that Barca was offering. He was an excellent element of this attack but not irreplaceable.
Liverpool blew that break there... get rid of it and it would have been #5
Who are you lot playing tomorrow?
United now need to answer tomorrow
Stoke at home
I'd like to say it will be a comfortable win but I can' say that
This would be City's first domestic loss this season
Lose possession again
That's what you have to do!!!
Oh - Winaljdum tried one from distance and nearly found the corner. If he'd scored, that really would be something.
That's why I would have preferred Klopp to Jose
He now has a winning record against Pep
Well - that should be a big win. Stoke are pants.
Goal
Bernardo Silva gets a goal back
Surely they can't score two more!!
GOAL! Citeh pull one back through Bernardo Silva. Good for United's league position.
I HATE STATS!!
POSSESSION... City 63% Liverpool 37%
PATHETIC STAT... MEANS NOTHING
DON'T SIT BACK
Anfield starting to sound anxious again.
There is still lots of time
Score a goal and then another
City can play around with the ball at the back... keep passing!!
Just what you ordered - a late substitution! LOL!
Mo Salah comes off to a thunderous ovation. 18 goals now in the Premiership. He's the only one close to Harry Kane now.
How much time do you think will be added?
Will they give City time to score....like they did against Southampton and co
Mane with a useless effort and dive
A City fan
At least City are winning on aggregate
another tweet
See how you can lose your best player and still play brilliant
Pay attention Arsenal fans
4 added minutes
City not showing much urgency
4-3... I knew it
They are blowing it!!
Still three minutes to go
Oh my word - it's 4-3! Game on!
Will Lee Dixon have to walk home?
Will City do it... if they do... they won't lose
