The Third Round Starts Here!
The FA Cup 3rd Round is my favorite time of the year. The weather is always horrible in WNY this time of year, so there's nothing to do but put my feet up in my favorite armchair and binge on loads of the good stuff. It all starts this afternoon with a couple of crackers. The biggest match of the draw - the Merseyside Derby between Liverpool and Everton - gets us started at 2:45pm EST. At 3pm, United start their Cup campaign with a home match against Championship playoff contenders Derby County. It should all be absorbing. Don't miss a minute of it this afternoon. Join me here on the LOB for all the fun and games, won't you?

Good afternoon, Bob. Hope all is well. Sorry about the horrible weather. Hope the Third Round warms you up.
The Mersey Derby is on FS1 while Man United vs Derby, Second in the Championship, is on FS2. That is not a derby in case you're wondering.
Afternoon, MUR - great to have you on board for the 3rd Round festivities this afternoon. How are you, mate?
Wahay - the coverage of Fox Sports has started, with the fake Rebecca Lowe hosting.
The teams now warming up at Anfield. Everton have a full strength side; Liverpool - not so much.
Liverpool (4-2-3-1): Karius, Gomez, Matip, van Dijk, Robertson, Can, Milner, Mane, Lallana, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Firmino.
Subs: Wijnaldum, Lovren, Klavan, Ings, Solanke, Ward, Alexander-Arnold.
Everton (4-3-3): Pickford, Kenny, Holgate, Jagielka, Martina, McCarthy, Schneiderlin, Rooney, Bolasie, Calvert-Lewin, Sigurdsson.
Subs: Williams, Niasse, Davies, Vlasic, Lookman, Robles, Baningime.
Referee: Robert Madley (West Yorkshire)
FS2 is still on the kickboxing nonsense, but here are the teams that will be on display at OT:
Manchester United: Romero, Lindelof, Smalling, Blind, Shaw, Ander Herrera, Pogba, Mata, Lingard, Mkhitaryan, Rashford.
Subs: Rojo, Lukaku, Martial, Fellaini, Darmian, McTominay, Joel Pereira.
Derby: Carson, Wisdom, Keogh, Pearce, Olsson, Thorne, Huddlestone, Weimann, Lawrence, Russell, Winnall.
Subs: Martin, Baird, Bennett, Vydra, Hanson, Nugent, Mitchell.
Referee: Kevin Friend (Leicestershire)
Doing great thank you for asking. We have enjoyed fantastic weather since yesterday after a week and a half of unusually cool weather. Waring my new United jersey
It will be a tough test for United. The Rams look an experienced side with some familiar names in the lineup. It will be a test for us.
The PPP stakes: Several of us, including me have chosen United to win the FA Cup. Others have chosen Liverpool to win, including Simon.
Someone Said is in the most intriguing situation, as a fan of the Toffees. He's picked Liverpool to win the Cup - so who is he going for today?
I have the Mersey Derby on the telly and the match from OT on the link
It's officially colder than a well digger's arse here in Fredonia (currently -2F!), so a perfect weekend to bunker in with the footer.
I've got both matches on, with the Merseyside Derby on the big screen and the match at OT in the small box.
Led by their captains James Milner and Phil Jagielka, the teams march out on to the Anfield amphitheatre, where 8,000 Everton fans seated in the Anfield Road end are adding to a raucous atmosphere. The teams perform the last of their pre-match formalities and kick-off is just a couple of minutes away.
Great to see that both matches feature teams taking the Cup seriously as demonstrated by their starting lineups
Scott Carson in the Rams goal. A familiar face to Bob while Tom Lawrence is a former United academy player. Sunshine states that Fatty is a former Spuds player.
Off from Anfield.
And we're away - both sides wearing their traditional colors. Martin Tyler and Stuart Robson on the mics.
Our weather since yesterday has been similar to what it was when I visited you in Fred Town
Teams out of the tunnel at OT
A furious pace at the start of this match.
United led by Paul Pogba, the same name on my brand new jersey
Tackles flying in furiously as you expect in a Mersey Derby
Nice one, mate!
And we're away at Old Trafford.
Jose showing respect for Gary Rowett
Kevin Friend gets the match underway from OT
Wayne Rooney goes in with a rash one and picks up an early yellow card. Has he been taking tips from Paul Scholes?
Roon with a horrible foul on Joe Gomez Addams and deservedly booked for that. It looked a cheap shot.
Bolassie wins a corner off of Robertson.
Jesse Lingard wants a penalty. Nothing doing from his Friend.
Lindy shoots high and wide off a pass from Pogba after being triple teamed.
BOOM BOOM Mr. Brush
He's not the Dean of officiating. Not sure Jose is calling for that in this match
Mike Dean has had a rough week, eh?
Pogba with a long range effort straight at Scott Carson, the former LUFC player.
Mike Dean's week more like being Trump or Bannon?
Herrera well wide with a header off a free kick from Pogba
The Merseyside Derby match hasn't really settled yet.
Pogba with a long range effort off target after a long possession to set up the chance.
I noticed that as well. More of a flow in the match at OT . As expected, United dominating.
Mo Salah enjoying the match from the bench today. He's the most notable absentee today, alongside Philippe Coutinho, who appears to be off to Barcelona before long.
Derby Friday continues next Friday with your favortieite derby of all.
Derby will just be trying to keep things tight.
I shan't be watching that shower. It would hurt my eyeballs.
Lindy sends Miki free down the right. His cross is halfway to St. Helens , but not back
It seems a really silly match based on your description. If the weather is nice I will take that day off and enjoy the nice weather.
The Toffees have weathered the opening quarter of an hour at Anfield and are now creeping into this match.
Great tackle by Smalling on young Winall after a break set up by former United Academy player, Tom Lawrence.
They don't know how to play football in Sheffield.
Sounds similar to the Mersey Derby played here a few weeks ago.
Carlos Carvahal sacked by Not a Big Club and in charge of the Swans. What a promotion and what a break for him. I think he's a decent manager.
Sammy Lee a traitor, LOL?
Apparently so, eh?
First decent chance of the match for Liverpool. Milner had a chance on the volley - didn't quite catch it right.
Milner volleys a cross field pass wide of the Toffees goal while United failing to test the other LUFC Academy grad as it was a rash shot.
Two great crosses by Bolassie - the second one earns a corner.
Former LUFC player , Alex Pearce , fouls Mata in the D
The corner by Siggy fails to beat the first man - club fine!
A Toffees corner is headed away then Martina high and wide from long range
Scott Carson does well to turn around a free kick from Mata
I don't think that Pearce ever played for us. If he ever did, I've forgotten him. Maybe another Alex?
A rare chance for the Rams and Cesar Romero does well to tip over a header from one of the Olsson twins. Pearce heads over the corner.
Could be. Sorry for the case of mistaken identity.
Alex played for the Reading Railroad for many years and won seven Irish caps despite being from Wallingford , England.
A great tackle by Fatty on Lindy
Mane OH Mane! His long range effort made it halfway to Southport.
Derby seem to have had a few long distance chances. Nothing to trouble Romero, though.
Penalty to Liverpool! Bobby Madeley had no hesitation in pointing to the spot as Lallana tried to turn in the box and Holdgate pulled him over. A bit soft.
PENALTY TO LIVERPOOL . MASON HOLGATE CALLED FOR HOLDING LALLANA, WHO WENT DOWN RATHER EASILY. THAT LOOKED A SOFT ONE
LUFC Academy steps up and....
Slots home easily.
1-0 Reds!
GOAL !!!! STRAIGHT DOWN THE MIDDLE BY MILNER , SENDING PICKFORD THE WRONG WAY
Second Mersey Derby in a row with a rather soft penalty decision, but a different team. Fat Sam will not be Klopping about that decision.
Fat Sam will have to come up with a response now. I'm sure that his Plan A was to get a draw and take the tie back to Goodison.
I guess they taught them to shoot pens down the center at the LUFC Academy , stating that the keeper will always dive away from that area.
I don't think anyone wants a replay , which would increase an already hectic fixture list
Handbags now as Holgate pushes Firmino into the crowd. Firmino came racing back on to engage in some pushing.
Holgate now pushes Bobby F into the stands. He will be lucky to escape an early bath. I would give him one.
Holgate showed a lack of maturity. It was really cynical./
Bobby Madley is getting some feedback from his assistants now. This could be a big decision.
OH!!! Rash should have given United the lad. A free header from six yards out and hits the post off a superb cross.
And we're finally back on with the match - somehow both players seem to have escaped any punishment. Extraordinary!
Derby dodged a bullet there.
How did Holgate escape a booking? It was cynical and intentional. What's going on with these Prem refs? They don't know how to make accurate decisions?
A decent pass from Miki to Shaw and Keogh clears for a United corner. Rash heads straight to Carson off the corner./
A pair of stoppage time minutes at Anfield.
I'd sub Holgate at half-time for sure; he's clearly lost the plot.
Arsene received a three match touchline ban . Wonder what Gooner and Simon have to say about that?
I agree . Fat Sam should and tell him off as well.
Liverpool one up at the half thanks to that soft penalty.
Half-time at Anfield. Liverpool with their noses in front so far. But it's a tight thing. Everton perhaps lucky to still have all eleven on the pitch.
Tom Lawrence tackles former Academy teammate, PAul Pogba
Scott Carson superbly tips over the free kick from Pogba headed for the upper 90.
No stoppage time at OT as it's 0-0 in the half. Not a vintage United performance.
Back from a trip from the bog as the second half is underway from Anfield.
Another flashpoint involving Rooney now. He's got to be careful as he was booked early on.
Roon, who is on a card, looses possession and fouls Emre Can from behind
Players back out at Old Trafford. It looks like Lukaku is being prepared. That's good, as the last thing you lot want is a tricky replay at the Ricoh.
Kenny Dalglish, siting in the stand named after him, seems none too impressed with the officiating
Jose has seen enough and is going with two up front. No surprises as the Chunk is on for Miki.
The second half is underway from OT
Do you mean Pride Park? I think the Ricoh is Coventry's home ground.
Fat Sam cannot have any complaints with the officiating. His side could have been down to nine men if the Dean officials had been in charge.
You're right, of course - I lose track of the new names of these grounds. It's still The Baseball Ground to me.
Fat Sam wisely subs Rooney for Lookman.
Fat Sam wisely substitutes Roon. This will hurt as he's replaced this early in the second half and by Lookman, who is really inexperienced. Embarrassing for Roon.
Joe Gomez Addams heads wide from two yards off a corner. A free header that could have sealed the tie.
Luke Shaw does well to block a long range rocket from Fatty for a corner. Romero punches away a corner he should have caught.
Lallana shoots wide with just Pickford to beat. The Reds should have clinched this tie.
Milner fouls Bolassie and Karios has difficulty with the Toffees free kick
Herrera has a long range rocket blocked by Alex Pearce for a United corner./
Mata has a long range rocket fisted away by Carson then then the Chunk has a shot blocked then wide by Pogba.
McCarthy booked for a foul on Milner.
I sense that a United goal is coming soon.
The Chunk heads wide from a corner. Jonjo Kenny clears for a Pool corner.
United have applied more pressure as they should have in the first half. That substitution helped.
Andre Wisdom and None Too Wise with a needless foul on Rash about a foot outside the box as the ball was headed out of play.
Oh - Van Dyk nearly gets a debut goal, rising at the free kick, but he nodded into Pickford's welcoming arms.
It's all Liverpool now - Everton haven't really had any real response to going behind.
Poor free kick , but Johnny Russell is tackled as the Rams attempt a break
Romero does well to push away a long range effort from former United Academy player, Tom Lawrence. Blind blocks for another Rams corner.
That grab by Holgate on Matip looked more a penalty than the one that was called on him.
Carson acrobatically saves a long range rocket from Pogba.
Great last ditch tackle by Holgate on Mane.
GOAL! Everton equalize through Siggy just when the match seemed to be slipping away.
GOAL !!! SIGGY TIES IT UP FOE THE TOFFEES WITH A LONG RANGE EFFORT WELL PLACED, ROOTING KARIUS TO THE SPOT.
Nice quick break through Bolassie and Jagielka, of all people, laying off to Siggy who picked his spot so well.
1-1 Game on!
Klopp is about to turn to Wynajldum of all players to make the difference here.
Adam Lallana is withdrawn now.
The Toffees goal came from a Liverpool corner. Lookman found Kenny and passed to Siggy for that great finish.
Fat Sam looking Clever by bring on Lookman for Roon, who did nothing but foul. It must be humiliating for Roon that an inexperienced player, who replaced him did more in one possession than he did in fifty minutes
Wjnaldum on for Lallana.
Matej Vydra, the Rams top scorer, on for young Sam Winall.
Jose makes United's second change, which is a Mata of karate chopping a player on to the pitch
Everton certainly are more difficult to beat under Fat Sam.
Pogba shoots just wide off a pass from Lindelof.
Correct, mate. Jags with the assist, not Kenny. Are you watching Roon?
Carson with another great save. This time a long range effort from Rash
OH!!!! Rash has another effort crash off the post. Great pass from Lindy
Trent Alexander-Arnold on for Milner.
Two changes now from Klopp - both youngsters. Alexander-Arnold and Solanke on for Milner and Gomez.
Useless cross from Lindelof.
Those are the final rolls of the dice from Klopp.
Has Mou got any subs left?
A break for United as Luke Shaw got away with grabbing Andre Wisdom , who surely would have led a Rams break.
I think United have one substitution remaining.
The Chunk is offside as he had a header come off the post off a cross karate chopped to him.
Niasse on for Calvert-Lewin.
OH!!! Lindy has a shot well saved by Carson then Pogba shoots the rebound wide of an open goal
Young Jamie Hanson on for Johnny Russell as GAry Rowett attempts to Shaw up the midfield.
GOAL! Van Dyk has his debut goal!!!!
GOAL !!! VAN DIJCK PUTS POOL 2-1 UP, ON HIS DEBUT.
The final roll of the dice from Jose and I don't get this one as HAir Bear is on for RAsh. It's as if Jose is playing for a draw.
Simple goal, really. Pickford won't want to see that one again. He came for the cross but got nowhere near it. The Dutchman with a simple headed finish.
2-1!
Poor By the norm, ally reliable Pickford as he was out jumped by Van Dijck, who headed in the corner on his debut./
The final roll of the dice by Gary Rowett as Mason Bennett is on for former United academy player, Tom Lawrence. He immediately concedes a free kick to United
Sorry. Bennett won the free kick and Keogh has a goal disallowed for offside.
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!! LINDY PUTS UNITED IN THE LEAD WITH AN IDENTICAL GOAL TO THE ONE HE SCORED ON MONDAY AT GOODISON
Van Dijk should be a useful acquisition for the Reds. They're central defense partnership has been a weakness in recent seasons.
A quartet of stoppage time minutes at Anfield.
Well done, Lindy! That should wrap things up nicely for you lot.
Into four minutes of stoppage time now.
Carson looks upset with himself , but he did not stand a chance with that effort from Lindy
Cheers, mate. Not a vintage United performance, but we will be in the next round.
Bolasie with one last chance blasts it well over. And that should be that.
It's over at Anfield as the Reds win 2-1 at Anfield. The winner by Van Dyck on his debut.
The Reds deserved their win as they were the better side.
Marvelous solo effort by The Chunk means that United are home and hosed.
So that's Liverpool and United both safely into the 4th Round draw on Monday.
WAY HAY!!! THE CHUNK WITH HIS FIRST GOAL IN A WHILE AS HE GATHERED A LONG CLEARANCE ON THE BREAK, TURNED KEOGH THEN PLAYED A NICE ONE TWO WITH MARTIAL BEFORE SLOTTING IT PAST CARSON. NOW 2-0
I'm off to enjoy the rest of my Friday evening. I'll look for you again bright and early for the Fleetwood v. Leicester match in the morning.
Into a trio of stoppage time minutes
This will do nicely as United's next match is on MLK Day
Cheers, mate. Great chatting with you. Look forward to joining you bright and early tomorrow.
It's over as United defeat a brave Rams side, who came to OT to play for a 0-0 draw.
