Derby Day Special in the Premiership!
Morning, chaps! It's an especially big day in the Premiership. I'm up early to enjoy the Merseyside Derby. The Reds are coming off a huge win against Citeh in the Champions League. The Toffees - not so much. That's followed by the usual 10am EST kickoffs, including my beloved Leeds hosting bottom dwellers Sunderland. At the end of the day, we've got the Manc Derby, where Citeh have a chance to win the title at Old Trafford. It should be rather special. Brew yourself a pot and join me early doors.

Good morning,Bob. Fred and I are up early to join you for what we hope is a special day for us , but not Citeh.
In most seasons, the Merseyside Derby would be the most important match of the season. This time around, with these sides at opposite ends of the table, you could argue that it's not even the most important match this week. After all, Liverpool go to the Etihad for the return leg of the CL Quarterfinal on Tuesday, while Everton have a relegation six pointer against Swansea next Saturday. So will these managers rest players? Unthinkable most of the time, but.....
Morning, MUR - great to have you on board for this one. How was your week?
Is Klopp overconfident in a big derby match? Playing Solanke , who has never started for Pool and Ings starting for the first time since October 2015.
And there it is - Liverpool make five changes. Here is that shocking team news:
Everton (4-3-3) Pickford; Coleman, Jagielka, Keane, Baines; Rooney, Schneiderlin, Davies; Walcott, Tosun, Bolasie.
Substitutes: Robles, Martina, Gueye, Niasse, Funes Mori, Calvert-Lewin, Baningime.
Liverpool (4-3-3) Karius; Clyne, Lovren, Van Dijk, Klavan; Milner, Henderson, Wijnaldum; Ings, Solanke, Mane.
Substitutes: Mignolet, Firmino, Camacho, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Masterson, Alexander-Arnold, Jones.
Referee Michael Oliver.
Thank you. Good morning, Bob. It was a good week. Had Monday off an took yesterday off. How was your week?
The Toffees are ninth on 40 points . I would say they are safe despite not having the greatest of seasons.
A couple of early Championship today. A South Yorkshire derby between Derby and the Evil Blades kicked off a few minutes ago while the canaries vs Villa is about to kick off.
A moment's applause for the tragic passing of Ray Wilkins.
Very busy week here - I even had to escort some Australian colleagues around campus on Monday. And I've got to hop it to an Open House event on campus around 11. No rest for the weary, eh?
Fitting tribute for Butch there.
Agreed with Arlo and Lee that Butch was a class act.
We're away in the Derby match - it'll be interesting to see early on how these sides adapt to the monsoon like conditions at Goodison.
They're off from Goodison Park
Would we have it any other way in a Merseyside Derby?
It’s the usual fast start in a Liverpool match - but this time it’s from Everton.
Agreed and due to the conditions the ball is travelling quite a distance.
I agree - the pitch conditions are really having an effect on proceedings. Not going to be a pretty match.
The Toffees off to a good start unlike their last match , which was against Citeh. Pool on the back foot ,unlike their last match, which was against Citeh.
Wijnaldum with a shot high and wide that lands in the Gladys Street End. Gladys probably would have done better
Better from Pool. Solanke heads wide off a cross from Milner.
Tosun is over with a half volley for the Toffees.
oH!! Pickford with a superb close range save from Solanke off a really poor Toffees clearance.
Oh - great point blank save by Pickford from Solanke's effort there. It fell quickly to the Liverpool man and he just kind of stabbed at it.
Pickford punches away a cross from Solanke.
And another punch clear from Pickford. He's keeping the Toffee's in this one as Liverpool poor the pressure on.
Loveren fouls Theo on the halfway line . Toffees fans would Loveren for him to get a booking.
Oh - nearly an own goal from Klavan - Karius was rooted to the spot and the ball fizzed wide.
The long free kick is headed on and Klavan clears out for a corner that could have been an OG
Klavan heads out the corner from Roon.
A crackling pace to the match now with chances at both ends.
Bob will be pleased that Barnsley have taken the lead vs the Evil Blades. Fred not so much
Tosun is claiming a penalty there as he clashes with Van Dyck. Nothing doing from Referee Oliver.
Tosun goes down, looking for a penalty off a challenge from Van Dijck. Michael Oliver having none of it.
Lovely. Barnsley really need a win. Is Fred getting ready for a hiding?
Macclesfield, top of the National League, take the lead at Ebbsfleet.
Listen to Lee Dixon - "Great defending there from Van Dyck. He just leans into the player - not a foul." Fully paid up member of the Defender's Union.
Fred called your team the Lilly Whites, so sounds like he's not thinking that.
OH!!! Karius superbly turns around a long range curler from Bolassie, headed for the corner.
Oh - great tip around by Karius from Bolassie's drive.
Loveren heads out the corner.
Evil Neil refuses to apologize to Wolves manager , Nuno Santos, over a lack of class. How is that news. That's just another day ion the life of Evil Neil.
Bolassie clears for a Pool corner off a long ball.
Another great save from Pickford there - are you watching Gareth?
Pickford does very well tot turn around a curler from Milner.
Ooh - there he is! Well done, Gareth. Please start picking Pickford then.
Liverpool really controlling this match now - not good news for Fat Sam's lads.
Pickford and Butland should be in the World Cup squad.Nick Pope, should be considered for third choice after the season he's had with Burnley.
Mane wins a free kick about 30-35 yards from Pickford's goal.
Van Dyck tries a curler from the free kick there. Pickford is well behind it.
A long range free kick from Van Dijck is easily gathered by Pickford.
I agree with you on those three for England.
You will be interested to read that the Cottagers will be only two points behind second placed Cardiff if they win at Hillsborough. Villa would be four behind Cardiff with a win at CR, where it's currently 0-0.
Cheers, mate. Great to know we're on the same page.
Big win for Wolves yesterday - Evil Cardiff missed two penalties!!
Bolasie with a naughty challenge on Hendo.
Sounds like Evil Neil paid the penalty for poor finishing from his players
Ings down off a challenge on Bolasie.
A long range Pool effort is nowhere close to being on the Mane.
There won't be any stoppage time.
It's 0-0 at the half at Goodison.
This half is winding down - players looking forward to their dressing room cuppa and a fresh shirt, no doubt.
The Canaries one up at the half vs Villa thanks to a goal form Josh Murphy in first half stoppage time.
The second half is underway from Goodison Park
We're back on for the second half, then. No changes to either side as I can see.
Coleman called for a foul because the challenge on Milner had too much mustard.
Bob will not be pleased that the Evil Blades have tied it up at Barnsley. Fred won't mind.
The 10 AM matches are the Seagulls vs the Terriers on NBCSN and The Cherries vs Palace on CNBC. The match from ER is on ESPN3.
Morning Boys
I watch most the of the first half up in bed. I am down here for the rest of the match... modern day football derby in my book
BOY... do I miss the excitement
I'll be watching the big match on ESPN, of course. At least the first of it. I'll have to leave after the second half starts up.
Morning, Rip van Nocito! How are you, mate?
Macclesfield two up at Ebbsfleet as they aim to win promotion back to the Football League.
Good morning, RVN . Welcome.
It's not Gana be a happy Mersey Derby for Roon as he's replaced. The move is meant to stop Pool controlling midfield..
I am very bummed that I have to go back to work on Monday!
Not really looking forward to the Manchester derby either!
I fear Jose will go all out not to lose... but still manage it!
Wayne Rooney coming off after an ineffectual match. He's been getting a barracking from the Goodison faithful. Down the tunnel.
Rooney is really pissed being taken off
Roon down the tunnel. Injured or needing to grow up?
I hope you're wrong about both fears, mate. Here's to a cracking Derby match and to a fun workweek for you.
Tom read me a tweet that he said only Baines and Rooney thought it was a derby!
Handbags right now. Don't know what happened
Ings is being told that his challenge didn't cut the mustard. Now it's starting to feel like a Merseyside Derby.
Speaking of being pissed off, it's all kicked off between Seamus Coleman and Danny Ings all of a sudden.
Sorry you have to go back . I know how you feel.
Calvert-Lewin on now for Bolasie.
Calvert-Lewin on for Bolassie, giving the Toffees two strikers on the pitch now,.
Big Sam about to substitute another goal threat... how dare they try and score... I'll yank them off
Canaries go two up vs Villa and the Evil Blades have come from behind to lead 1-2 at Barnsley. Bob will not be pleased, but Fred is.
We really need Liverpool to drop points today
RUBBISH BY DIXON
You want to win the derby
Ebbslfleet pull one back vs the National League leaders, but trail 1-2.
Arlo and Lee are musing that both managers would be happy with a draw at this point. I hope not.
Agreed wit both statements. A late Toffees winner would be nice.
So much is made of all these big games... more times than not... it disappoints
A busy week for LUFC. A t home to the Black Cats today, at Ridsdale's house on Tuesday , and at Villa Park on Friday. Quite a busy schedule, Bob.
Wonder if the late one is. A 0-0 draw would prevent Citeh clinching the title today. That's the only good thing about that.
What side will Jose pick today
On the Busses?
Ox on for Milner. That's an attacking move. A fullback for a winger.
Will he pick drivers or passengers?
The Ox doesn't finish the same way as he did midweek
Oh - supersub The Ox with a great run but he leaned back on the shot. Well over the mark.
OX with an immediate impact as he cuts inside Baines and shoots over from long range.
Barnsley ties it up vs the Evil Blades. Now Desmond.
Ebbsfleet have from two down vs National League leaders Macclesfield where it's also Desmond.
Bobby F on for Mane.
How will this game we love change?
I know the game usually changes during the years and things comeback into favor but will it? When will there be teams that put more than one up top? When will you have a striker partnership that will play together like the Italian Stallions? When will teams put men out wide and put in decent crosses to more than one teammate in the box? When will fullbacks be there to defend first and not be one of the top attacking options for teams?
Mane is rested for Tuesday; Bobby Firmino - the man with the teeth - is on for him.
To be fair, Leicester won the title playing two up front. I think it will just take a side like that to rise to prominence in order to break the Barca way.
Villa pull one back at CR as they trail 2-1.
Everton have a chance to break quick...they slow it down and let Liverpool get back... I DON'T GET IT!!!
Bloody Barcelona
I agree with UWS. Sounds like the future may look bleak as football is becoming more like chess.
Baines can't find a man with the cross
Oh - great burst through by Baines. His cross only needed a touch from Tosun to finish it off.
Don't players want to get the crowd going. They do few things right and the crowd are up for it
I think that there are three sides in the Premiership - Citeh, Liverpool and Spurs that play entertaining stuff. Of course, they're all big money sides. The problem is that most Prem clubs don't have the ability to compete with them, so they play it cautious and try to get enough draws to survive.
The final roll of the dice from Fat Sam . Like for like and one academy grad for another as Banigime is on for Tom Davies.
Just turned on the ESPN3 match at our old stomping grounds
Norwich 3-1 up v Villa
Just remembered, that was the match we were are for all the violence we had to sit thru
The Canaries now lead Villa 3-1. Not a happy return to CR for Brucie.
The Goodison faithful roaring their side on now. Everton could steal this one in the end.
Nice to revisit great memories.
Still not enough of getting the ball in the box for my liking
I remember that match well. When my American footie friends ask me what it was like to go to matches in the 70s, I always mention that one.
If Not a Big Club defeat the Cottagers then Wolves can clinch promotion on Tuesday. If the Cottagers win then they are two points behind second placed Cardiff.
Shame - Theo had a chance there but slipped at the crucial moment. The pitch has been a factor.
Bottom 3 Barnsley beating the Blades 3-2 playing in the last minute
Not good news for Birmingham or Bolton
Nor Fred, Richard Burton, and Liz Taylor.
8 years of no derby wins for Everton... a record!
This is not a stretch of great Liverpool teams. Just think about all the Liverpool sides during the days. It just says how bad Everton are!!
My friend here in Biology who is a huge Wolves fan will be hoping that they can wrap it up on Tuesday.
Come Everton... do not give up the winner
Liverpool would stay behind United by a point and United have two games in hand
Has Fred gone into hiding yet, mate? He's in for some rude treatment in about an hour.
The Manc derby means nothing. City are champions already. It is not the end of the world losing...we've had plenty a champions party
Just to let both you know that two rubbish Prem matches are being televised at 10. Glad we have the match on ESPN 3.
Everton have done better in the last ten minutes than they had during the previous 75
OH!!!! How did the Toffees not take the lead? A great cross put in, Tosun headed across the box and Coleman could not make contact at the far post.
ohh...how did Everton not finish that!!
Almost two chances!!
Look what happens when a wide man takes on a man and delivers a decent cross
Another Everton miss!!
Wasn't even close!!
Then Calvert-Lewin misses a sitter off a deflected cross from Coleman
Why didn't Everton play like this!!
Barnsley win the Yorkshire derby
Fat Sam is having kittens on the sideline with all of these missed chances to win it.
Fred is up to his usual Saturday morning antics.
Klopp seems happy to settle for a draw as Trent Alexander - Arnold is on for Danny Ings.
The dreaded pointless substitutions happening at Carrow Road
Naughty by Bobby F on Theo as we enter stoppage time. A trio of that
no added time for the first half
Three at the end of the match
It's over between Ebbsfleet and Macclesfield as Ebbsfleet came from tow down to finish Desmond vs the National League leaders.
Liverpool will take 0-0 on Tuesday as well.
No bookings in this match - crazy for a Derby!
Naughty by Clyne on Calvert-Lewin
Come on you Toffees..get the winner
MORONS... offside!!
No goals and no cards ion this Merseyside Derby.
That is it.. bloody 0-0
Good news for United
This disappointing Merseyside Derby finishes 0-0 . Liverpool will be happy with the same score on Tuesday
All over at Carrow Road
The Canaries damage Villa's hopes of catching Cardiff
Off for walkies
WITH BLOODY SNOW ON THE GROUND!!!
Back after a refreshing shower for the big 'un. Come on, you Whites!
Kate enjoyed my rousing performance of the MOT. LOL!
Wahay! Elland Road on my screen at 10am EST on a Saturday, just as the gods intended it.
Got the ESPN3 link on as they're off from the AMEX
Before they kick a ball in anger at ER, The Seagulls miss a sitter because they did not have Propper finish as they kick off from ER
It's battle of manaegerial wits at ER as it's Paul Heckingbottom vs Cookie Coleman w, who has yet to cut the mustard as Black Cats manager
EllandRoad sounds magnificent this afternoon.
The Black Cats are massively under achieving . A side full of Prem players should be challenging for promotion, not fighting a second successive relegation battle.
It's a brilliant atmosphere.
Ronny Viera fouls Ashley Fletch
Huddersfield win the prize for worst away kit of the season - Is that tie-dye? That one is atrocious.
In other words it's What the Heck vs Crumbling Cookie!
Agreed, Bob. It's pretty wretched. Nice to see both teams wearing their first choice kit in this match
Stu Dallas wins a corner off of McGeady
Motley Crewe on top at Jayne Mnasfield's house. I'd love to see that .
Sounds like they're Smoking in the Boys Room there, mate.
Honeyman picks up the game's first yellow card for clattering Sammy Saiz.
Great close range block by Lossl from Glenn Murray while George Honeyman is anything but a honey as he's booked for a less than Pre Saiz challenge.
Posh takes the lead at Argyle Sweater as does Fleetwood Mac at Rotherham
Middlesbrough takes the lead vs Forest as does Derby vs Bolton.
Wigan takes the lead vs the Fake Dons.
A cross from Pablo Hernandez just fails to find Alioski at the far post.
Oh - great break from us. Pablo sent over a great ball but neither Ali nor Big PML could latch onto it. Shame.
Luton takes the lead at Yeovil while Motley Crewe is two up at Jayne Mansfield.
The Real Dons take the lead vs Scunny while Rotherham ties it up vs Fleetwood Mac.
The Reading Railroad takes the lead vs Ridsdale's lot as do the Evil Lions vs Bristol City
Pablo is bossing this match for us. We're in total control.
Oh - off the post from Ronny Vieira!
OH!!!! Off the post from Ronny Viera. Nearly the lead for Leeds.
Jayne Mansfield pulls one back vs Motley Crewe , trailing 1-2. Will Desmond join this interesting party?
Rochdale take the lead vs Pompey . UWS will not be pleased.
Oh - Paddy McNair has an effort on target and Peacock-Farrell doesn't look too good handling it. Why can't keepers smother shots any more.
The Peacock-Farrell spills a shot from Paddy MCnbair that deflected off of Kal Phillips off a pass from Lynden Gooch
Oh - Pablo is inches wide there with the full volley after a lovely dink from Ali. We're playing well.
Le Camp does well to save a shot from Pablo Hernandez after Saiz had a shot straight at Camp
I am back after a very chilly walk
Miss anything? I was listening to Stoke Spurs
And Jansson with a glancing header from the corner that nearly crept in the far corner. We should be a couple up already.
Jansson heads just over off the corner from Hernandez.
Brighton better get some points soon. I heard on the radio that their last four games are against the top four
Welcome back. Still 0-0 , but Leeds have nearly taken the lead three times. Pablo Hernandez looking the most likely to score.
Just put on the Leeds match
Elland Road sounds good
Let's hope Poterfield isn't playing!
I've got the Red Button going with Final Score too
Wigan 2 nil up against the Fake Dons
The Black Cats have gone the closest since I've been watching
Oh - McGeady has a chance with a header. P-F not bothered. Good match here.
