Sunday Morning Duty
A very good Sunday morning to all of you boy LOB boys. As the season winds down, there are going to be some match days that seem a bit like playing out the string. This is one of them. For example, Arsenal host Newcastle first up. Of course, with Chelski dropping points to Soton yesterday, Arsenal have the chance of pipping them for 5th and qualifying directly for the Europa League. Yet, they don't really want to qualify for the tournament that they're currently in - they want to use this year's EL to jump back into the Champions League. Meanwhile, Newcastle are just happy to get to the summer vacation now, safe from the thought of relegation.
Join me for all the fun and games, won't you?

As another example of this morning's dynamic, Wolves are hosting a promotion party at Molineux against their neighbors Birmingham City, having been promoted with Fulham's failure yesterday. Must be especially sweet for them today.
Teams coming out at St. James's Park now:
Newcastle: Dubravka, Yedlin, Lascelles, Lejeune, Dummett, Ritchie, Diame, Shelvey, Kenedy, Perez, Gayle. Subs: Clark, Murphy, Slimani, Hayden, Manquillo, Joselu, Darlow.
Arsenal: Cech, Chambers, Mustafi, Holding, Monreal, Elneny, Xhaka, Iwobi, Willock, Aubameyang, Lacazette. Subs: Mertesacker, Ospina, Welbeck, Maitland-Niles, Kolasinac, Nelson, Nketiah.
Referee: Anthony Taylor
The Arsenal line-up has some interesting elements to it. Joe Willock, an 18 year old academic kid will get his debut in midfield today. Meanwhile, Aubama and Lacazette start up front together for the first time, so Danny Welbeck gets a rest.
Very placid start to the match, with both sides merely toying with each other.
GOAL! Oh, that is a special goal combining the front two pairing!
901!
Lovely stuff there from the Arsenal. Long ball from Xhaka Khan to Aubama who took it down well and chipped a ball over to Lacazette to finish off on the stretch.
0-1!
That Aubameyang shot deflected over off Lascelles’ outstretched arm, by the way, replays show. It may well have snicked the ball off target. Seen penalties given for those.
Good morning, Bob. Great to join you after a wee bit of extra kip.
They may be playing out the string , but you would never know it by the way these two teams are playing.
Wolves two up vs ten Brummies in a local derby. Promoted yesterday and need a draw at Bolton Saturday to be Champions.
The score from Molineaux is a final
Aubameyang gets far too much space to turn and shoot, but slips, to some mild jeers.
Morning, MUR - how has your weekend been?
Newcastle really haven’t threatened since the goal. Arsenal are enjoying the possession now and look broadly in control.
Nice pass from Shlevey as Crystal Gayle winsa corner off of Mustafi. The Gunners counter off the corner.
GOAL! Ayoze Perez fires Newcastle back into this one!
Lovely finish there from Perez and the ball came in. Just flicked in at the near post. Cech won't be happy that he was beaten, though.
GOAL !!! AYOZE TIES IT UP FOR THE TOON WITH A POSSESSION THAT STARTED FROM THE KEEPER OFF THE GUNNERS FAILED COUNTER. SHELVEY PLAYED A LONG PASS TO CRYSTAL GAYLE , WHIO PLAYED IT OUT WIDE TO YELTSIN AND HIS CROSS WAS PUT IN BY AYOZE , BEATING CECH AT THE NEAR POST.
It's been a quiet weekend. Thank you for asking. How has your weekend been?
A long range volley from Chambers goes into the ground and straight to Dubravaka. That volley is better off left in chambers.
Iwobi sent tumbling by LeJeune.
Busy, mate. We've been working on a number of projects and getting ready for a brunch today.
Oh - Chambers just couldn't connect with that one. Could have been almost a carbon copy of the Lacazette goal.
Into the wall by Aubama then played out wide left and headed across the box by Mustafi and sliced horribly wide. That shot is better off left in Chambers
Matt Ritchie has a shot easily saved by Cech, who felt like Lionel Ritchie when beaten by that near post effort. He surely wasn't dancing on the ceiling.
Now Chambers has a chance from a free header. Puts it over. Wasteful.
A free header off a corner and Xakhan Khan sings better off left in Chambers
Young Joe Willock horribly miss kicks . I was reading Lacazette when Diame horribly conceded possession to the Gunners, which resulted in that chance.
A minute of stoppage time.
It's 1-1 at the end of a fairly even half. The second half could go either way.
Off to do some dishes during half-time.
The second half is underway from SJP.
Jon Champion is the announcer with expert analysis from David Prutton.
Back on at SJP for the second half. The match is well poised at this stage. No changes made by either side at the interval.
The Gunners host the Hammers next Sunday. If the Hammers defeat the Potters tomorrow then that match will also be like playing out the string.
I'm not sure that "expert" and "David Prutton" have ever been used before in the same sentence, mate. LOL!
The Gunners resting a few players after that long trip to Moscow.
True. Presumably you lot will beat WBA in the late one, which consigns them to relegation. A WHU win over Stoke will do likewise. And Soton now look fairly cut adrift at this point.
Agreed. That's why we're the two Daves, not the three Daves.
I agree. The whole Arsenal season is now the EL.
It should be "The Two Davids" rather than "The Two Robbies" on NBC Sports.
The Baggies swapping Prem places with their local rivals is a bitter pill for their fans to swallow. They will be officially relegated with a loss today and a draw vs Liverpool in the early match on Saturday
Nice one, mate. I would personally prefer the one Bib instead of the two Robbies.
The Potters and Saints are probably two losses away from being relegated. The Saints should never have sacked Puel and should be mid table instead of being relegated.
This match is now starting to look like an end of season fixture . Time for some changes.
Agreed. I thought it might be Huddersfield rather than the Saints to go down.
I agree - we're nearing the hour mark. Freshen things up a bit.
Islam SLimani, a striker on loan from the Foxes, is on for Crystal Gayle in a like for like swap.
Mustafi called for obstruction on Slimani
High and wide by Matt Ritchie from long range after the free kick was headed away
That's a decent change for Newcastle. Arsene is stoically sticking with his starting XI.
Iwobi with a long range effort from an acute angle that went wide instead of creeping inside the near post.
Wellie on for young Joe Willock, who made his Premier League debut,
The debutant Joe Willock comes off - didn't notice him at all. Welly replaces him.
GOAL! Matt Ritchie fires the Toon into the lead!
GOAL !!!MATT RITCHIE DANCING ON THE CEILING AS THE TOON HAVE COME FROM BEHIND TO TAKE THE LEAD.
Gooner will be swearing about that horrible defending that allowed that goal. Two chances to clear the ball - neither of them taken. Poor from their perspective.
2-1 Newcastle!
Boom boom - nice Lionel Ritchie reference, mate. Matt definitely said "Hello" to the Arsenal defense there.
The goal is a microcosm of the Gunners season. Once Wellie came on for debutant, Joe Willock, the Toin took a long throw. It wasback headed by two Gunners defenders then headed by Slimani and back heeled by Crystal Gayle to Lionel Ritchie and resulted in a Toon that was music to the home fans ears as Ritchie fired one past Cech
As things stand, it will be five consecutive road league defeats for the Gunners for the first time since 1984, when Don Howe was manager.
Cheers, mate. I'm sure Arsene did not reciprocate the greeting.
Oh - nearly a third goal for Newcastle!
Nice run and pass by Slimani for Kenedy, who got behind the Gunners defense as Cech pushed his shot on to the corner of the post and bar, Nearly 3-1.
Ayoze into the side netting with a poor first touch after great skill and a pass from Shelvey
Oh - now it's Perez into the side-netting. To their credit, the Toon are pushing for a killer goal here rather than trying to defend their lead.
Ashley Maitland-Niles on for Callum Chambers
Joselu on for Ayoze
Gazza in attendance at SJP with what appears to be his two sons. There is quite a resemblance.
Gazza picked the right day, starting his career at the Toon and also playing for the Gunners bitter rivals, the Spuds. He must be enjoying this.
Xakha Khan sings to the Toon of a Gunners corner that is headed away.
Dubrovka lost the ball in the flight of a cross. Then I lost sight of what happened, so I read Lacazatte to discover that a shot landed in the side netting and that the offside flag was raised.
The final roll of the roulette wheel from Arsene as youngster, Eddie N'Ketia, is on for Iwobi
Into a trio of stoppage time minutes, featuring Crystal Gayle Matt Ritchie , and Xakha Khan singing to the Toon of a home win.
Slimani booked.
The Toon last defeated the Gunners at SJP in December 2005.
It's over and the Toon have come from behind to defeat the Gunners 2-1.
That's it then. A poor showing for Arsenal there. It's clear that Wenger and co. are planning entirely for the Champions League semi final now. That don't really give a toss about the league. Lee Dixon is right to blast them.
That's going to be it for me this morning, mate. We're getting ready for a brunch this morning. Cheerio for now.
The Line Ups at Old Trafford
Manchester United XI: De Gea, Valencia, Lindelof, Smalling, Young, Herrera, Matic, Pogba, Mata, Lukaku, Sanchez
West Brom XI: Foster, Nyom, Dawson, Hegazi, Gibbs, Phillips, Livermore, Brunt, McClean, Rondon, Rodriguez
Why no Rashford or Martial?
United better start fast and positive!!
So Arsenal lose their fifth straight away game on the Premier League and are only two points ahed of Burnley. Arsenal still have to visit United and Arsenal host Burnley in beginning of May
I have a question... I know that if Southampton don't win the FA Cup then 7th position(Burnleyl) make the EL. What if Arsenal(6th) win the EL...does 8th make EL(Leicester, Everton...possibly Newcastle)
Back for the late match . United play the bottom team exactly a week after playing the first placed team
No. There would be just two teams in the EL this season. United qualified for the CL, so that left just the Gunners and Toffees in the EL this season.
Cheers, Bob. Have a great rest of the day. Good morning, Dave. How has your weekend been?
Here they come out of the tunnel
COME ON MAN U
COME ON MAN U
COME ON MAN U
Players coming out of the tunnel being greeted by Fred the Red.
COME ON MAN UNITED!
It's been fine apart from the bloody weather... Sleet and freezing rain today!!
Hard to believe a lot of the Baggies starters were part of a tenth placed team last season. What a slump. Being relegated and being replaced by their bitter rivals is a bitter pill for Baggies fans to swallow.
They started off with two wins as well!
Do the fans miss Pulis?
Do Stoke fans miss Sparky?
Mum's the word about our current weather. Wishing you better weather.
WBA start us off
Away we go!!
They're off from OT!
WBA fans yes, Stoke fans no.
United really need to build on last week
GO FORWARD!!
Already we seem to be playing possession
Alan Pardew sacked and replaced by Darren in charge of the Bggies who will be in the Prem no Moore after this season. Perhaps a return in the future.
The Chunk was on loan to the Baggies during SAF's last season in charge of United and scored lots of goals for them
I have noticed that every goal United have scored.... Sanchez doesn't really celebrate...unless he scores it!
He was accused of that at Arsenal
Jay Rod with a chance...slips
Here we go... Arlo going gaga over City. Robbie too
Ended 5-5
United are playing too slow... AGAIN
Pogba back passes it to Foster
Celtic three up vs Rangers in an Old Firm Scots Cup semi. Looks like Celtic vs Well in the Scots Cup Final
Poor cross by Valencia.. lost art
He scored a hat-trick that match. The Baggies must wish they had him this season
Don't know how Livermore is anywhere near the England squad
Arlo talks about Jake Liverwurst being part of the England squad this Summer. Don't see that happening after a really poor season.
Glad we agree on that. They would be better off with Liverwurst.
Great save by De Gea off of Liverwurst after J Rod won a tackle deep in the United half.
WBA should have taken the lead
Should have shot first... still got a great shot off
Great save by De Gea again
United ARE NOT building on last week... same old same old
I am annoyed
This team is BOTTOM!!!
United being dominated at OT by the worst team in the Prem.
WBA have created more of the chances
WHAT IS GOING ON!!!
This is ridiculous
A cross by McLean is meet with a free header runned on to the Stretford End instead of hitting the target.
Too slow and not direct enough
Jose will need to have quite a talk at the half.
Paper talk of United buys Harry Maguire from Leicester for 35m
15 minutes in... only a back pass by Pogba....not good enough
United need to be stronger in the tackle and play with more commitment.
Is that Jose stating that Lindelof has been a flop?
United want a pen... nothing given
Herrera went down off a challenge from Craig Dawson. Couldn't tell if it should have been a penalty
Lukaku with a chance then Sanchez....foul called
At least there is a chance
OH!!! Ben Foster blocks a close range shot from The Chunk off a first time pass from Mata after a cross was headed away.
I don't care that there is contact... stay on your feet and SCORE a goal!!!
That's more like it from United.
One would think that most of the Baggies starters will be sold at the end of the season.
Poor touch by Mata off cross from Alexis. That would have been a decent chance.,
WBA still creating a lot of chances and United still sleepwalking...WHY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A free header off a cross from McLean has runned on to De Gea .
It's probably overconfidence and thinking about the Cup semi.
United want to get little scoops into the box or take shots from miles out
Get the ball wide and then cross with quality
I don't care how congested it is.. Cross it and have players attacking the cross
Alexis Herrera sure have bore the Brunt off some challenges.
Pogba with a typically stupid yellow card . A good cross, but he's supposed to head it in ,not stop it with his hand.
Nice cross by Lukaku... NO ONE THERE!!
Giggs, Hughes, Scholes, Becks, Yorke, Cole, Sheringham, Solskjaer, VNR, Tevez, Roon, Berba, Pearson, Greenhoff, Macari, Stapleton, Best, Law or Charlton would have been there
TOO MUCH PASSING IT AROUND!
Half hour in...just like the normal Jose side
I guess we need to concede twice
I just hate all this possession crap!!!
SO BORING
United players trying to thread the eye of a needle and showing that they can't do that if they tried a million times.
We should be attacking the bottom side at home.
Matic well wide from long range.
United are going no where!!!
This was a perfect opportunity to attack an opponent that is crap
Just giving them more and more confidence
Robbie Earle is spot on by describing United a s predictable.
This is exactly what I feared
Bob's luncheon is probably more entertaining than this match.
I don't understand what goes thru Jose's head
Why can't they attack with pace
Got that right
OH!!! The ball ran on to the Chunk. He trapped a long ball, but Ben Foster rushed out to gather the ball off his feet.
Pogba just went forward so slowly on a fast break!!
Is Jose that paranoid about losing?
Pogba over with a curling long range effort.
Listen how quite OT is
I hate it when Jose comes out and complains about how his players play...no one does anything that goes against him
Pogba slows down the ball and then wants to do tricks... why not go right at them!
United too slow on a fast break , allowing the Baggies another chance to attack
The Baggies win a corner,.
Craig Dawson heads back a curling corner from Brunt, but Nobody was there to attack it and United cleared it away
The Baggies scored off of set pieces under Pulis. This only two apiece for Craig Dawson and Hegazy.
This has been PATHETIC!!!
I hope the crowd boos
WBA send players forward... United give them time to get back
Maybe City will be champions today!
I was sort of confident about next weekend after last weekend....not any more
A minute of stoppage time as Pogba has a shot deflected for corner off of Hegazy.
United's first corner...doesn't beat the front post
The corner from Alexis is headed away
I don't want to hear about WBA been tough to play
They have been the more dangerous
it's 0-0 at the half as United were absolutely horrible in the first half.
The Baggies look more like the team that played under Pulis.
Lingard coming on for United in place of Herrera
What about Rash and Mart
We are off
The second half is underway . Lindy is on for Herrera. A great change which should provide more offense for United
oooh Lingard with a shot blocked
Lindy and Maya have shots blocked then Crag Dawson concedes a corner. Hegazy heads away the corner from Mata
Does Pogba have a sprinting gear?
Doesn't look like it
So annoying... great last week... atrocious again this week
Pogba gives away the ball to Brunt , who plays it wide left to McLean and soft header from Runned on is straight to De Gea.
Useless cross by Lukaku
Stop clapping Pogba for getting out trouble that he caused
Of course, there is no moral victory for WBA to get a point here...they need three more than United
WOW!!! Celtic thrash Rangers 4-0 in the Scots Cup semi and face Well in the final.
A long range United effort wide by a Mata of feet
Second half... same as the first
So annoyed
Pogba called for a foul as it was not a McLean tackle.
Free kick chance for the Baggies... straight into the wall
Pogba has become worse to the point of becoming a liability. The United three man wall bore the Brunt of the Baggies free kick
Martial to come on... prove yourself
Nyom fouls Alexis.
Who is coming off? Pogba?
It is going to be Pogba
Smalling clears a pass from McLean for a Baggies corner.
It is going to be Pogba... great one week...well for half... then sucks
IS Pogba injured. He is karate chopped off the pitch in French swap.
Nyom guilty of an illegal karate chop just outside the Baggies box.
Wonder if they score... will they start giving Jose credit for tactical change like they did for Pep
Hegazy heads away a free kick for a Mata of a United corner.
Hegazy heads away another corner w, which is no Mata for him. He's dealt with everything thrown at him today
Rain falling harder at OT. Perfect conditions for testing Foster,
I am bored
No shot on target yet this half
United try and do too many fancy things!
Get the ball in the box... attack the ball in the box
United just try little cute passes and go no where
Save by Foster... Nice header by Lukaku
Martial took too long to do anything with the rebound
