Relegation Dogfight Saturday
Morning, chaps. It's a do or die Saturday for several sides. While the top of the table has been settled, the relegation battle is well and truly on. We start with Stoke v. Palace, a must-win for the Potters. Then at 10am, it's Bournemouth v. Swansea and Leicester v. West Ham, with both away sides still in trouble. If Stoke were to win this morning, it would put a great deal of pressure on the Swans and Hammers. And then we end with Everton v. Southampton. Same story there - the Saints must win.
I had an especially grueling week, so I'm going to grab some extra kip and join you for the 10am matches. Enjoy!

The second half underway between Stoke and Palace,.
Stoke one up and as things stand that would relegate the Baggies.
Shaquiri won a free kick off of Ruben Loftus-Cheek, but it was more a coming together . Shaquiri bent the free kick like Beckham and it skimmed off of Tongue N Cheek's head for a goal a couple of minutes before half time.
MacArhtur puts through Tongue N Cheek and last ditch tackle by Pieters leads to a Palace corner. Zouma down injured
Zouma back on and now two between Crouchie and Sacko, two former Livwerpol players, but not at the same time/.
Milvoljevic decides that either Shaquiri or the ball will pass , but not both. Martin Atkinson begs to differ and books Milovojevic.
Milovojevic has a long range effort deflected for a corner.
Useless Palace short corner.
Moritz Bauer booked for a an off the ball challenge on Zaha.Beneteke on for Cabaye in the hope he scores. What are the odds on that?
Paul Lambert brings on Ramadan Soby, a winger, for Crouchie.
GOAL !!!! 1-1 GENERAL MACARTHUR TIES IT UP FOR THE POTTERS ON THE BREAK.
In the space of ten seconds Stoke went from attacking to letting in the equalizer as they were literally caught with a sucker punch. A pass from Ramadan Soby was cut out by Sacko.Zaha passed to Tongue N Cheek and his superb pass found MacArthur, who scored with a superb finish.
Well that put the cat amongst the pigeons. Stoke mathematically alive, but like the Baggies just
Wee Joe heads wide off a free kick from Shaquiri
Young for old and striker for defender as eighteen year old Tyreece Campbell on for Glen Johnson
Well over by Zaha off a pass from Townsend.
Stoke safe , but could be relegated later today if results go against them
Townsend wins a corner as Palace starting come out on top. Not what Stoke needs.
Sunny in the Potteries, but the future looks bleak and gloomy for Stoke City
Nice Palace move and Tongue N Cheek blasts over from a narrow angle. Pieters booked for a foul on Zaha in the build up as advantage was played
Stoke win their first corner of the match and it's a complete waste
GOAL !!! STOKE MADE TO PAY AND PVA GIVES PALACE A 1-2 LEAD AND SURELY STOKE ARE RELEGATED.
Off that wasted corner a nice Palace build up culminated in a pass from Zaha that was back passed by Shawcross to Van Arnholt, who finished past Butland.
That cynical challenge by Shaquiri is not seen as Tongue N Cheek as Martin Atkinson books him for that challenge.
Schlupp on for Townsend.
Morning, MUR. I'm feeling especially well rested now and ready for the rest of Saturday's action. I'm watching the end of Stoke's reign in the Premiership. I've never really liked them either in the Tony Pulis incarnation when they pioneered the bloody long throw technique nor in the more recent Sparky Hughes incarnation. Palace have done us a favor here. Stoke are going down.
A quintet of stoppage time minutes as the fat lady has stopped singing for the Potters
Good morning , Bob. I couldn't agree with you more. Both of Pulis's creations could be relegated today as the Baggies may go down today too.
Palace also one of Pulis's teams as both his former teams playing a part in this match
It's over as Palace win 1-2 and Stoke are officially the first Prem team to be relegated this season.
I'm back for the 10am kickoffs now. The only issue with Stoke being relegated earlier today is that it makes the rest of the day quite a bit less interesting. We've got West Brom v. Spurs coming up. The Baggies will need a miracle to survive the day. Meanwhile, Swansea fans will be breathing a little easier. A point against Bournemouth and a poor result for Soton this afternoon will make matters a lot more settled for them.
Bournemouth and Swansea are on NBC Sports - here's the team news:
Bournemouth (3-4-3) Begovic; Francis, S Cook, Ake; Fraser, L Cook, Surman, Daniels; King, Wilson, Pugh.
Swansea (4-4-2) Fabianski; van der Hoorn, Fernandez, Mawson, Olsson; Dyer, Ki, Carroll, Roberts; A Ayew, J Ayew.
And West Brom v. Spurs are on CNBC - here are the teams:
West Brom (4-4-2) Foster; Nyom, Dawson, Hegazi, Gibbs; Phillips, Livermore, Brunt, McClean; Rondon, Rodriguez.
Spurs (3-4-2-1) Lloris; Alderweireld, Sanchez, Vertonghen; Trippier, Wanyama, Alli, Rose; Eriksen, Lamela; Kane.
So which match are you going to watch, mate?
The main reason to watch WBA v. Spurs is to see if Harry Kane can narrow the gap with Mo Salah. He's on 27 goals to Salah's 31. Might be worth a look.
I've decided to use my PIP button and am watching both matches.
CNBC has finally joined the match at the Hawthorns at the 11th hour after several infomercials. And we're away.
Still lots of perambulations at the bottom of the table, but it's starting to look more likely that it will be either Soton or Swansea and then Stoke and WBA dropping out of the Prem.
Early scare for Swansea as Josh King bursts through into the Swansea area. Bournemouth starting on the front foot.
An early goal at Vicarage Road, where Roberto Pereyra has curled Watford into the lead.
Hornets take the lead vs the Toon in a dead rubber match
Watford will be mathematically safe if they win, though realistically they can afford to lose 472-1.
Welcome back, mate. Glad to have you on board while UWS is struggling with his power today.
Danny Pugh has the ball in the net, but he's flagged offside. But this has to have alarm bells ringing for Swansea. They don't look like they're in this one so far.
Glad to be back, Bob.Cherries vs Swans the big picture and Baggies vs the Spuds the little picture. Sunshine disagrees with that choice.
agreed . I understand the Swans losing to Citeh and Chelsea, but should be up for this one.
Is Sunshine squawking about that choice, MUR?
Oh - Begovic saves the Cherries' blushes. Swansea nearly in there at the set piece.
Better from the Swans as Begovic makes two good saves. First, a close range effort from Van Der Hoorn then a close range effort from Nathan Dyer.
He's pecking on his seeds, so he must have come to terms with the choice.
Jordan Ayew wins a Swans corner.
Gooner will be delighted by Stoke's relegation, as it will mean three more away points next season.
Yeovil takes the lead at Abe Lioncoln and Harry Kewe;ll's ;ads on top at Jayne MAnsfield. She must like that
Spurs are attacking but no joy for Kane yet in the opening 15 minutes. He'll have to get on his bike if he is to catch Mo Salah.
Spurs won't be gifting a win to the Baggies. They're fighting for a CL spot and nearly there.
Cally Wilson misses a sitter off a pass from wee Ryan. The Cherries should have taken the lead.
Oh - what a miss by Callum Wilson!
Great ball in and Wilson made a complete hash of it.
Swindon take the lead vs Accrington Stanley, who are already champions
Bournemouth are all over Swansea at the moment but are being more than a little wasteful.
Main issues in L2 is the last relegation spot is between Barnet and Morecambe and Wise. Barnet must win and eric Morecambe lose in order for Barnet to survive. Last playoff spot between Abe Lincoln and Jayne Mansfield. Jayne must win and Abe lose for Jayne to get the last playoff spot.
Ben Foster does well to turn around a long range effort from Sissy
0-0 at Filbert Street as well. Not good value for the punters so far. Just that one goal at Vicarage Road so far in half an hour of play.
some latest scores , albeit meaningless, Carlisle on top of Newport County and Motley Crewe on top of Cheltenham. Already promoted Wycombe on top vs Stevenage
Abe Lincoln and Jayne Mansfield trailing at home. As things stand, newly promoted Abe will get the last playoff spot.
Morecambe and Wise 0-0 at Coventry, who have already clinched a playoff spot. Barnet 0-0 vs already relegated Chesterfield and they may renew this fixture next season in the National League
Interesting how many lower league teams lend themselves to your puns, mate.
Still no goals for HK. What's he waiting for?
Bournemouth have a free kick now, as Olson picks up a yellow for mouthiness.
GOAL! Bournemouth take the lead!
Training pitch routine - ball played square to Frazier who thumps it past Flappy.
1-0 Cherries!
GOAL !!!! WEE RYAN GIVES THE CHERRIES THE LEAD WITH A CURLER FROM THE d OFF A SHORT FREE KICK
LOL. They're wearing a bullseye, mate.
Oh - Jordan Ayew was in there but blew it over the top.
Should have been 1-1 . Jordan Ayew shoots over with just Begovic to beat off a one two with bruv, Andy
Joao Mario gave the Hammers the lead at the Foxes. They would be all but safe on 38 points.
Things are definitely becoming settled here today.
Hornets two up vs the Toon.
The first half is coming to an end. Things looking dicey for Swansea and a bit better for the Baggies.
Cherries one up at the half. Off to the Hawthorns.
It's 0-0 at the half at the Hawthorns. That would clinch relegation for the Baggies.
Barnet one up vs already relegated Chesterfield and Morecambe and Wise drawing 0-0 at Coventry. Barnet relegated unless they score half a dozen more goals.
Second half underway from The Vitality
Now as well from The Hawthorns
Back for the second half. Swansea and WBA need goals. The Baggies would be relegated if things stayed the same, while the Swans would set up a titanic struggle on Tuesday with Soton.
Begovic turns around a shot from Nathan Dyer.
Josh King picks up a yellow card for taking the free kick too quickly.
Andy King booked for the Swans for taking a free kick too quickly. That's a bit harsh as Josh King of the Cherries was watching
Sorry wrong King. Sounds like the Windsor's
Off to fix a spot of lunch.
Swans have won lots of corners, but as has been during the season they don't take advantage of those and again the same.
Enjoy, mate. That will probably be more appetizing than any of the matches today
Tammy Abraham on for Nathan Dyer. A striker for a winger.
L2 champs , Accrington Stanley three down at Swindon. Seems like they didn't want to make the trip
Ben Foster does well to turn a round a Spuds free kick
Back at the hour mark with a PB and J.
The handbags have come out at the Hawthorns between LUFC Academy boy Danny Rose and Nyom. They're both losing their heads.
Hammers two up at the Foxes as WHR can celebrate survival.
Welcome back, Mark Noble puts the Hammers two up and time for Johnno to celebrate
PB&J more exciting than anything on display today unless it's a new Leeds signing
Dele Alli has had enough today - troops off. Spurs don't seem to be bothered.
Motley Crewe lead Cheltenham 2-1 in a meaningless match.
Spurs should be . They haven't clinched a CL spot yet
Andy King on for Van Der Hoorn in an effort to move the Swans up the pitch. Cherries with a long range effort deflected for a corner.
Danny Sturridge on for Runned on.Signs that the Baggies are desperate for a goal
Harry Kane nearly scores an OG that would have given the Baggies the lead.
Cambridge three up vs Port Vale.
Jayne Mansfield ties it up vs Harry Kewell's lads , but two points behind Abe Lincoln for the last playoff spot.
That wouldn't add to his goal tally.
James McLean booked for anything but a clean tackle on a Spuds break off a Baggies free kick
Chadli on for J Rod against his former mates. Will he be able to inspire a late winner.
Cambridge four up vs Port Vale.
Andy King booked for a foul on a Cherries break. Each team has had a King booked.
Abe Lincoln ties it up vs Yeovil . That would be enough to clinch that last playoff spot.
West Brom have less than ten minutes to save their Premiership lives. Spurs are bringing on Llorente/
Superb close range block by Flappy from Cally Wilson
Deathly quiet at the Hawthorns now. I think they realize that the Baggies are cooked.
Cambridge five up vs Vale. Barnet two up vs Chesterfield. Barnet need five more goals or one Coventry goal to stay up
St. Johnny 1-5 up at the Scots Cup finalists.
Mike Jones waves away a penalty appeal there. That really would have been it.
The Baggies have a corner!!!
Trippier slices a cross from Chadli out for a Baggies corner.
A battle in the Spuds box off the corner and a close range effort from Krystkowiak is well over.
The chance fizzles
Darren Moore is looking at no Moore Prem footie? Hard to blame him. He's undefeated.
Five minutes of stoppage time to come....
Five minutes for the Baggies to save their Prem lives.
Another corner!!!
Baggies with crosses and desperately cleared by the Spuds for a Baggies corner.
GOAL!!!!!!!
The Baggies have somehow bundled the ball over the line and they live on another day!
GOAL !!! BAGGIES HAVE WON IT LATE AS IT WAS SC RAMBLED IN OFF THE CORNER.
The Hawthorns has gone potty!
It was Liverwurst against his old mates.
Oh - Llorente rises to nod toward goal. Ben Foster clutches it as if it's his baby.
Barnet three up vs Chesterfield . Need four in stoppage time or a Coventry goal
Oh - HK suddenly springs to life but can't connect properly. Wanyama hits the side netting. Almost over here.
It's over . The Baggies still alive and off the foot of the table ahead of the relegated Potters.
That's it - WBA have survived to live another day. It's still hard to see them staying up but they're making a good fist of it, as they should.
Next up is Everton v. Southhampton. The Baggies will require Everton to get a result. I'm going to be in and out during this one as Kate and I are working on some projects.
The late one between the Toffees and Saints is underway
The match at Goodison has just kicked off. Here is the team news:
Everton: Pickford, Coleman, Jagielka, Keane, Baines, Gueye, Schneiderlin, Vlasic, Davies, Bolasie, Tosun.
Subs: Martina, Niasse, Klaassen, Funes Mori, Robles, Kenny, Baningime.
Southampton: McCarthy, Bednarek, Yoshida, Hoedt, Cedric, Romeu, Lemina, Bertrand, Tadic, Austin, Hojbjerg.
Subs: Stephens, Long, Ward-Prowse, Gabbiadini, Redmond, McQueen, Forster.
Referee: Jonathan Moss (County Durham)
Also. The L1 matches have kicked off.
The most important match in L1 is Rochdale vs Charlton. Rochdale need a better result than Oldham to stay up.while Charlton have clinched the last playoff spot unless they lose and there's a half a dozen goal swing between them and Argyle.
Wigan and Blackburn have already clinched an immediate return to the Championship. Wigan Champs unless Blackburn defeat Oxford, Wigan lose at Donny Trump, and there's an eighteen goal swing between Wigan and Oxford.
Gils take the lead vs Argyle. Rochdale only Charlton would only be meaningful for Rochdale.
real Dons take the lead vs rock bottom Bury
Tosun just over with a header, but McCarthy appeared to have it covered.
Fairly quiet first quarter of an hour.
Pompey take the lead vs Posh.
Blackburn take the lead vs Oxford.
Pickford pushes away a long range effort from Austin,.
If Donny Trump vs Wigan is a draw then Blackburn need another eighteen goals to be L1 champs. No problems. Right, Bob?
Nothing match so far at Goodison. A draw would move the Saints out of the drop zone ahead of the Swans on goal difference. That would make the match on Tuesday really massive.
Argyle ties it up at the Gils. Argyle's slim playoff hopes still alive.
Pickford pushes away a shot from Tadic right at him, but with plenty of power.
Pompey two up vs Posh
Still no goals a half hour in. This result would be enough to stop the WBA celebrations tonight.
Fleetwood Mac take the lead vs Wasall. Both teams already safe
If this result holds . The Baggies would the match on Tuesday to finish in a draw and hope for a dozen goal swing next Sunday
Sorry . four goal swing.
Gils now lead Argyle 2-1
Oldham takes the lead at Northants. As things stand. Chalrton get the last playoff spot and Rochdale relegated.
Gils lead Argyle 3-1 while Real Dons two up vs Bury
Lemina down injured and during the stoppage , Sparky is absolutely letting Tadic have it.
A minute of stoppage time as Charlie Austin is booked./
It's 0-0 at the end of a half that was so dreadful that the fans boo,.
Northants ties it up vs Oldham. Rochdale's survival hopes still alive as things stand.
The fans give both sides a heavy round of boos as the half ends. Much ado about nothing. The most entertaining aspect of that first half was seeing Wayne Rooney with his kiddies in the stands. 0-0. The Baggies will hope for better from the Toffees in the second half.
Northants came from behind with two goals at the end of the half to lead Oldham 2-1 . Rochdale drawing 0-0 vs Charlton. That would relegate Oldham , ending a 21 year stay in L1.
As it stands, then, Swansea would drop into the bottom three with this result, albeit level on points with Southampton but with much worse goal difference. All to play in that titanic match on Tuesday.
Second half underway and Ramiro Funes -Mori , a centre back , on for Bolassie , a winger. Sounds like Fat Sam is happy with a 0-0 draw.
Sparky made a change bringing on Nathan Redmond , a winger for Lemina, a water carrier. At least Sparky is going for the win as he should.
Two changes at the start of the half. Center back Funez-Mori has replaced Yanick Bolassie for Everton and there is a straight swap for the Saints between Lemina and Redmond.
Fleetwood Mac two up vs Wasall.
Everton fans not looking terribly pleased. It's got to be hard for them being so mediocre while their Stanley Park neighbors are on fire and in the Champions League Final.
sparky looks more intent on winning than Fat Sam
GOAL! Supersub Nathan Redmond has sent the Saints into dreamland!
GOAL !!! NATHAN REDMOND SCORES TO GIVE THE SAINTS THE LEAD WITH A RARE HEADER.
Terrific ball in and Redmond made no mistake with his header past Jordan Pickford.
0-1 Saints. That goal puts them two points clear of Swansea now.
iNSTEAD OF BRINGING ON AN EXTRA STRIKER , ti's one striker for another as Niasse on for Tosun
Gils lead Argyle 4-1.
My Mistake . Fat Sam with two strikers as Niasse on for Vlasic Pickle.
I don't understand Fat Sam at all. This result, losing to a relegation struggler in the last home match of the season, will be a kick in the balls to Everton fans.
Agreed. I was thinking the Sam.
It's very Niasse for Fat Sam to bring on a striker for a water carrier, Vlasic , but only because he's in a pickle.
Oldham tie it up to make it Desmond at Northants. Oldham now safe and Rochdale back in the drop zone.
a defensive switch as JWP is on for Tadic, who gets a standing ovation from the travelling Saints fans.
The already relegated Fake Dons take the lead at the playoff bound Shrews.
Yoshida booked for a late foul
Oxford tie it up at Ewood Park. surely Wigan have clinched the L1 title.
Bury pull one back at the Real Dons
Rochdale takes the lead vs Charlton.
Like for like as Shane Long on for Charlie Austin.
Schneiderlin, a former Saint, booked.
Everton have a little under a quarter of an hour to rescue this one. Not sure that they really care, though. Baggies and Swans fans will hope that they do.
Saints two points clear of the Swans and ahead of the Terriers on goal difference.
I notice that you avoided mentioning Schneiderlin's stint at OT.
wigan takes the lead at Donny Trump. That's the L1 title for Wigan.
That was just a footnote, mate.
The final roll of the dice from Fat Sam as Klassen is on for Jags
Redmond nearly with a second as a long range effort is just over.
