The Long and Winding Championship Road Ends
The Championship season comes to an end this morning. It's been a disappointing one for my beloved Leeds United, after an opening that had so much promise. We'll end up in mid-table with a lot of open questions about our future going into the summer months. Likewise, QPR will finish outside the playoffs - they're our visitors today for the final match at Elland Road.
After the Championship fixtures, we also have Man City v. Huddersfield and Chelsea v. Liverpool to enjoy. Join me for all the fun this morning, won't you?

Morning, chaps. Still lots to play for in the Championship this morning, just not for Leeds. Excitement awaits, especially at the top of the table, where the final automatic promotion place is still up for grabs. Fulham's fate isn’t in their hands. Victory over Birmingham City won’t be enough for Slavisa Jokanovic’s side if Neil Warnock’s Cardiff City win at home to Reading or match their result. Fulham could finish on 91 points. Cardiff could finish on 92.
No coverage sadly. I have no inclination to pay up for ESPN's extortionate new ESPN+ nonsense. So, I'll be monitoring everything on the Guardian blog. It's kick-off time!
Early goals in the Championship: Freddie Sears has drilled a low shot into the bottom corner to open the scoring for Ipswich. Boro won't care as they're already guaranteed a play-off spot.
Leon Clarke has opened the scoring for the Evil Blades against Bristol City with a 25 yard scorcher.
Brantford are 1-0 up against Hull in another match that doesn't mean much. Canos with the goal.
Cam Jerome has opened the scoring for Derby in their match over relegation bound Barnsley.
Now here's a huge goal. Jutkiewicz has scored for Brum, who are desperate for a win today, over Fulham who might miss out on the playoffs now.
Nuhiu nods home for Not a Big Club against Norwich. Loads of goals flying in in the Championship.
News of Birmingham’s goal has filtered through to the Cardiff City Stadium, where a huge roar has just gone up from the home fans. If that doesn’t rouse Cardiff nothing will.
Of course, on the last day of the season, you always have nonsense results. Here's one - Sunderland have scored against Wolves.
Morning Bob....I have all the modern day technology back today
It was like I was back in the 80s yesterday
I was hoping the BBC Redbutton channel would have Final Score on but sadly no
I was reading your comments, I think you mean Fulham would miss out on automatic promotion not the playoffs
Will one Welsh team replace another in the Premier League?
Burton fall behind at Deepdale... they are back in the drop zone?
Morning, UWS - great to have you on board this morning. Happy to hear that your power is back on. Phew!
Millwall on up vs Villa
Wednesday two up Sunday
WAY HAY
Leeds take the lead!!
I think you might well be right - Southampton are on a bit of a run. I could see them getting a result on Tuesday.
YESSSS!!!!!
We had power but no cable, phone or internet
Good day for the Steal City right now
Both clubs are two nil up
Boro tie it up at Portman Road
Of course it's Kemar Roofe, our top scorer this season, with the goal. I really fear that he'll be sold off to the highest bidder this summer and we'll be back to square one.
The Blades are three up at Ashton Gate!
Preston two up vs Burton.... nope just got a score correction up date... still one nil
As I type, it will be Bolton and Burton joining Sunderland on visits to Fratton Park and Acc Stan
Good morning, Bob and Dave. Here to join you for this busy penultimate Sunday of the season
I tuned on 5Live and Talksport but they are both concentrating on the Prem
Morning, MUR - how are you, mate?
Have any of you tried out ESPN+ yet? I'm resisting it.
Morning MUR
Doing well. Thank you for asking. How is everyone this Sunday morning?
As things stand Evil; Neil; will be promoted . Surely the Cottagers can use a goal from Kate.
Black Cats leading Wolves? Fred wants to know if they're leading the reserves.
Wow - Brum are now 2-0 up! I did not expect that, but they are fighting for their lives. Fulham now looking like they'll be in the playoffs rather than going up automatically. Cardiff haven't broken through yet, but they may not have to.
Sunderland go two up vs Wolves
Birmingham go two up vs Fulham
Now 2-0 up - is Fred prancing about?
Congrats on being one up vs QPR. A good way to end the season.
Half time whistles beginning to go around the country.
He actually vomited on the kitchen floor. Too much excitement?
Still lots to play for in the relegation race. A trip to the Rams for Kate in the playoffs.
Or merely a fur ball, eh?
Another guard of honor? United never had this many when they clinched the title early?
No . I think he got into Sparky's food yesterday. That's what I saw in the vomit.
Citeh are coming out to a Huddersfield guard of honor. Here are the teams:
Manchester City (4-3-3): Ederson; Walker, Stones, Otamendi, Delph; Fernandinho, De Bruyne, David Silva; Sterling, Jésus, Sané. Subs: Bravo, Gundogan, Laporte, Bernardo Silva, Mendy, Toure, Foden.
Huddersfield Town (5-4-1): Lossl, Smith, Jorgensen, Schindler, Kongolo, Lowe; Hadergjonaj, Hogg, Mooy, Pritchard; Mounié. Subs: Coleman, Malone, Billing, van La Parra, Depoitre, Quaner, Gorenc Stankovic.
8:25
As it stands...
Championship final day
CARDIFF CITY will be promoted in second place.
DERBY COUNTY will fill the remaining play-off spot.
BOLTON WANDERERS and BURTON ALBION will be relegated.
45 minutes left to sort it all out.
Just noticed that the BBC has my time posted on all of their updates and not UK
Thanks for the updates yesterday MUR.
I don't like that Brian Kidd is in the City dug out. He was a big part of United's climb to dominance... he shouldn't have buggered off to Blackburn
I still don't see why he hasn't become a manager somewhere
They're off from The etihad
I really don't have much desire to watch this match... we all know what is going to happen
Half dozen goals?
Town don't have a hope today but could they get something at the Bridge... maybe Chelsea will have nothing to play for and maybe they could follow the trend of teams hosting Arsenal
Cheers, Dave. Glad to help.
I'm back with a bagel and cuppa - the official breakfast of the LOB - and definitely better than whatever Fred and Sparky have been eating.
Brian Kidd played for both Manc clubs as well.
Second half whistles are going around the country
5Live is not blacked out
Talksport must have exclusive coverage of this match
I will be able to get updates...loveley jubbly
Citeh right onto the front foot. It'll be a rearguard effort for the Terriers, for sure.
I do want Brum to survive but I want Fulham to pip Cardiff
If Bolton can take the lead vs Forest then Barnsley moves into the drop zone
Citeh dominating early on. David Silva foces a good save from Lossl.
Both teams that are trying to get the last playoff spot are playing two teams that trying to avoid the drop
Playoff chasing teams Derby and Preston are beating Barnsley and Burton
oooh, Preston just went down to ten men. Some bloke got a yellow for deliberate handball and then a dive
Preston still one nil up vs Burton
All Burton would need is a point to overtake Bolton and Barnsley and be safe
A decent spell of possession from the Terriers and Aaron Mooy is wide of the near side of the post.
All Burton would need is a point to overtake Bolton and Barnsley and be safe
Leeds two up!
Huddersfield getting a few shots!!
Citeh caught out by a training ground routine from the Terriers and Hadergjonjaj forces a comfortable save from Ederson
DeB hits one just wide!
Congrats, Bob. Hopefully this gives Leeds momentum heading into next season
Derby go two up!!
That should seal the playoff spot
Just wide by KDB off a pass from Sane. The closest Citeh have come to scoring
Phillips with the Leeds second
Wahay! Leeds 2-0 up. Kai Phillips with the goal.
You missed my update...wondered why there was no Wayhay from you
Kate need s to prepare for a trip to the Rams and Barnsley safe unless Bolton Or Richard Burton produce something
Kal was our first scorer this season and he may be our last. Seven goals for him. I fear that he may leave as well.
Can't believe Wolves two down at Sunderland with a chance of getting to the hundred point mark with a draw
I am sure Sunderland will blow it
Sorry, mate - I was chatting with Kate about the Fulham match.
So weird how the penalty shoot out at Wembley caused Huddersfield worrying about City today and Reading worrying about the drop!
not complaining mate...just saying I wondered why you hadn't commented
Are you chatting about the upcoming trip to Derby?
hosts get a goal back at Ashton Gate but still 1-3
OH!!!Ederson turns around a shot from Pritchard from just outside the box.
"A Burton goal looks likely"
That would take them out of the drop zone
Wednesday 3 up on Sunday
All Bolton vs Forest...
BURTON HAVE SCORED THE LEVELER!!
Is that a fact or idle gossip? A match between two teams who were so close yet so far from making the playoffs.
Reading have a penalty appeal waved away, Cardiff’s Sol Bamba getting away with a slight push on Liam Moore at a corner. Cardiff are still toiling but Fulham are still two down.
Replaced by Barnsley, playing where the Cottagers will their next match
Looks like Reading are safe
Even if they fall behind they should be ok with GD
Wednesday Four up v Norwich on Sunday
Looks like Barnsley are going down. Interesting that our manager got them on their way to L1. Will Heck survive the summer?
This is a great run by Burton for possible survival...they did it last season too
Cloughie is hero
Since the Cottagers are losing , Cardiff up even if they lose to the Reading Railroad.
Not a Big Club now 3-0 up over Norwich. Uh - make that 4-0. What's happening to the Canaries?
Bottom club three up vs Top Club
Wednesday is a Sunday League side. Correct vocabulary?
8:52
As it stands...
Championship final day
CARDIFF CITY will be promoted in second place.
DERBY COUNTY will fill the remaining play-off spot.
BOLTON WANDERERS and BARNSLEY will be relegated.
Burton pressing for the lead according to 5Live
Canaries thinking about a trip to the nearby beaches at Lowestoft or Great Yarmouth?
Fred must be doing the splits in the kitchen now!
It's Evil Ridsdale vs Young Cloughie.
Derby three nil up.... Barnsley won't get points so they need help from others.
That Derby goal has taken them above Boro into fifth
BOLTON just took the lead vs Forest.... that take them out of the drop zone and pulls Burton down
He's asking for seconds on brekkies. He must know the score.
Burton now need to win
That Bolton goal jumped them two spots!
Boro tie it up at Portman Road and then go on top of Derby again
That means Richard Burton needs to go for the winner at Ridsdale's house
Not watching much of the match on the tv but Town are getting a few chances
Derby 4 nil vs Barnsley
Forest tie it up at Bolton.... Disaster for the Bolton fans
Down they go again
Love last day stuff!!!
The Terriers with a decent change. We would have Lowe to have seen that go in
It's been a much duller match than I expected
Not the way Barnsley wanted to end the season. Cottagers facing a team on a roll in the playoffs.
The Championship stuff?
It's exciting going around the grounds of 5Live
Now Richard Burton safe
Fulham haven't lost in the League since Dec 18.... not the best time to lose again!
They could have gone up... Reading doing them a favor
Bristol C were 0-3 down but it is now 2-3
Ex Leeds boss Gary Monk steering the Blue Noses away from danger
KDB with a shot straight at Lossl, but pushed away due to the power
About a quarter of an hour to go
One goal could change things but as it stands
Barnsley and Bolton are going down
Play offs
Fulham vs Derby
Villa vs Boro
Cottagers need three goals in a quarter of an hour
Oh - Ginger rifles a shot at Lossl - good save.
There's a streaker on the pitch in Cardiff
Must be protesting Evil Neil winning promotion.
With Preston losing out to Derby for the last playoff spot... we will have to wait another year to get our 50th all time Premier League team
Derby 4 Barnsley 1
Bolton 1 Forest 2!!!....Burton fans going nuts as they were listening 5Live
Bristol City have a second goal back. 2-3 there now. Not gossip.
Fred got seconds on brekkies. Thinking about those trips to Luton and Accrington.
Preston fans jumping up and down no one knows why
How about Forest keeping up a Clough
Now the dust is starting to settle. Young Cloughie just needs to have his side hold on for the final dozen minutes
Ipswich retake the lead vs Boro which drop Boro below Derby
Big chance for Preston.... they want a pen...not given
That's the place to concentrate
A PNE goal would relegate Burton
That's a fair Kop. Both Clough's an important part of Forest's history
A trip to the Riverside for the Cottagers?
Loads of goals in the Championship. Why are we watching the Premier League bores?
What will Burton do?
They have a man advantage
You don't need the win
Don't concede
Fulham get a goal at St Andrews...they need two more
6 minutes to do so
PNE fans may be happy Bolton is going down because they're considered a rival.
Kate always mentions not to forget stoppage time.
We need a goal for Reading and a goal from Fulham and then Fulham would go up
I dunno - could still be on for the Cottagers. Kate needs to score two goals in less than ten minutes, though. I'm not sure she's up to it.
It's 0-0 at the half at the Etihad as the Terriers have done well to frustrate Citeh. This would be a precious point for The Terriers
Goal.... Bolton ties it up... still need another one
They are going all over the place on 5Live.... I love it
Reminds me of Radio 2 when no live games were on the TV
BOLTON HAVE JUST SCORED AGAIN!!!
3-2!! They are safe with two minutes to go!!
Burton now going down
As I was getting brekkies, Barnsley pull back a goal at Pride Park for much less than Pride. Purely cosmetic.
Preston fans waving at the Burton fans
Two goals in last three minutes for Bolton...wow
5 added minutes at Deepdale
Birmingham have got their two goal lead back
Cardiff are going up
Canaries pull on back at Hillsborough. Same as Barnsley at pride Park
Preston take the lead with ten men!!
Burton pressing for the winner they needed but they are now going down
Cottagers facing the Teesiders in the playoffs?
Fred says the Black Cats have stuffed Wolves 3-0
Derby have won 4-1 vs Barnsley... they could still stay up if Forest score
It's over at Pride Park. Derby thrash Barnsley 4-1. Barnsley down
The Evil Lions defeat Villa 1-0. It doesn't affect anything
Cardiff fans on the pitch... what numpties
Preston have beaten Burton 2-1
They are down
Good riddance - the last thing I need is more Yorkshire Derbies in the Championship.
Bees draw 1-1 with the Tigers. That's a dead rubber match
So, it all comes down to Bolton
Final whistle at the Macron... Bolton have survived!!
Two goals in two minutes save their butts
Sunderland, Barnsley and Burton are going down
Now just waiting to see if Bolton hold on.
Whistle goes in Cardiff
Ends 0-0... pitch gets invaded
They are going up
Evil Blades hold on to win 2-3 at Ashton Gate after being three up st the half
Teesiders tie it up late at PR. Finishes Desmond. Cottagers facing the Rams in the playoffs.
SO
Promoted
Wolves and Cardiff
Relegated
Burton
Barnsley
Sunderland
Leeds end the season with a 2-0 win vs QPR. Bob should be pleased.
Boro get a late late equalizer in East Anglia
They will go above Derby again
Canaries trail 5-1 at Hillsborough
It is over at PR.... the 96th minute equalizer clinches 5th
Playoffs all set
Fulham v Derby
Aston Villa v Middlesbrough
It's over at St.Andrews as Brum defeat the Cottagers 3-1
Three out of the four divisions are done and dusted...bummer
Kate is gutted. Fulham in the playoffs.
Congrats ending the season with a win Bob
Pitch invasions everywhere! The Championship, eh? Why can't NBC show that rather than the Premiership bore.
Good on Rebecca Lowe - she mentions Cardiffs promotion as the second half coverage starts.
Second half underway from The Etihad
Cheers, mate - that gives us a round 70 points. I'll take it.
60 points, that is. 70 points and we might have challenged for the playoffs. Always next season.
Evil Neil has never had a team survive in the top division. A good stat?
Evil Neil relegated in the top flight with Notts County and the Evil Blades and sacked at QPR. Evil Cardiff should have a long tough haul next season
Warnock with his EIGHTH promotion
Citeh flat because it's a warm, Sane day in Manchester?
A great stat, but Evil Neil either has trouble keeping those teams up, leaves , or is sacked. Should be one of those next season
I am still sure City will win this but what a shocker at Etihad
A Huddersfield goal would assure safety
Swansea, Southampton weren't counting on this
Terriers last two promotions were penalty shootouts after 0-0 in the Final at Wembley
I am still sure City will win this but what a shocker at Etihad
A Huddersfield goal would assure safety
Swansea, Southampton weren't counting on this
Punmeister makes an appearance
Agreed. Even a 0-0 would help the Terriers. Would have a three point gap and should have a chance vs the Gunners in a week.
A few appearances today. The Terriers are at the races today.
Haven't mentioned it yet today on here but I know all of us are thinking positively for SAF
I was cut off from the world yesterday but I got a text from my cousin if I heard the breaking news
On A warm Sane day, the Terriers keeper dropped the ball and it was cleared off the line
Yes. Definitely. I read that he's still in intensive care. Definitely wishing the best for SAF.
Alex Pritchard down for the Terriers while Mendy on for Delph.
Mendy a good luck charm for Citeh, who have out scored opponents 18-1 with him on the pitch
The last thing the Premier League needs is Neil Bloody Warnock. I'm backing Cardiff to go straight back down.
The Wagner Symphony makes a change as Mounier is off and another striker is Depoitre on the pitch. Like for like.
Me too, Bob. That's very likely to happen
Half an hour plus stoppage time for the Terriers to hold on for that precious point.
An update on Sir Alex's condition
United sources continue to have faith in initial medical reports that Sir Alex's operation went well. There have been no subsequent indications to the contrary.
In the late matches. Chelsea vs Liverpool on NBCSN and Wenger's final home match on CNBC
Great nws . Thanks for the update
Jorgensen got a boot in the head from Otamendi there.
Zanka down for the Terriers off a boot tot the head from Otamendi
Glad to hear that about Sir Alex. Long may he enjoy Saturday afternoons at Old Trafford.
Still bummed about United this season
Those losses to WBA, Hudders, Brighton, Newcastle and the home points dropped to Stoke..... WE WE WOULD BE SO CLOSE TO CITY!!
TWO POINTS!!
Well, the way this team plays... not sure SAF enjoys watching United
