Russia 2018 - Day 10!
Morning, chaps. I'm delighted to report that I'm back in business with my lap-top after a trip tot he Apple Store last night, just in time for the second weekend of the Russia 2018 World Cup. Today, it's Group F and G action. That includes England's group opponents Belgium and Tunisia up first this morning. That's followed by the impressive Mexican team trying to book their way to the Round of 16 with a win over South Korea. Then, the big one - the Germans will try to get their World Cup back on track with a big win over Sweden. Join me for the weekend action, won't you?

The Belgian press was underwhelmed by their Red Devils' performance against Panama on Monday, which is saying a lot since they won 3-0. In the end if was a story of two halves. They were slow to get started in the first half but then exploded in the second half after Dries Martens superb volley opened the scoring.
The teams now starting to gather in the tunnel at Ekaterinburg:
Belgium: Courtois, Alderweireld, Boyata, Vertonghen, Meunier, De Bruyne, Witsel, Carrasco, Mertens, Lukaku, Eden Hazard.

Good morning, Bob,. WAY HAY! That' fantastic news.
It's definitely an crucial Saturday in this Wold Cup.Tunisia out with a loss today, Boo hoo!
Actually all but out
Morning, MUR - thanks for the "wahay." I'm feeling great going into the weekend. No more thumb action on the phone.
I've been thinking a lot about this one. I don't think it really matters who wins this one. I suppose we'd prefer a Belgium win to eliminate Tunisia so that England can eliminate Panama tomorrow morning. Beyond that, our path is probably just as simple in the Round of 16 if we finish top or second. Japan are currently top of Group H with Senegal in second. I'd take either of those opponents.
First time I've ever seen a manager in tears singing the national anthem
Wow - the Tunisian manager couldn't get through the anthem without bawling his eyes out. Extraordinary behavior.
Just imagine how much crying he's going to do once Belgium put a hatful of goals by his team!
Agreed. AS UWS stated England may want to avoid the bracket with Germany, Brazil ,and Croatia
OH BOY! An MLS ref. Tunisian players will probably pull a lot of gamesmanship.
Your boy Romelu Lukaku will want to be working on his Golden Boot campaign with some goals today. He's currently on two goals, two behind Ronaldo and level with a load of other players, including Harry Kane.
I noticed that - let's hope he doesn't embarrass us all.
They're off from Moscow.
We're just about to get started - it's JP and Tubby Meola on the mics today.
Belgium playing in their unfamiliar yellow and black away number wins an early free kick.
Hazard wins a free kick ten seconds in
Unusually poor free kick from kDB
Ginger tries a training pitch routine but can't connect with Axel "Rose" Witsel.
I thought something looked unfamiliar about the Belgian kit.
Oh - Lukaku nearly reached that through ball while Mariah was running through treacle.
OH!! The Chunk out paced the Tunisian left back off a long clearance and the keeper rushed out to block. Then a comfortable save for the efrom a long range effort from Munier.
Fred says that Tunisian skipper, Khazri, the Black Cats rep on the pitch today.
Blimey! It's an early penalty for Belgium! That didn't take long!
VAR review not to see if Hazard was actually in the box when he was upended.
PENALTY BELGIUM . A STONEWALL PENALTY.HAZARD FOULED BY DYLAN BRONN.VAR TO CHECK IF IT WAS IN OR OUT OF THE BOX? LOOKED ON THE LINE , WHICH IS A PENALTY. VAR AGREES WITH ME
Hazard will get the chance to take this penalty then after the review....
Scores! 1-0 Belgium!
GOAL !!! HAZARD PLACES IT IN THE CORNER. THE KEEPER DIDN'T EVEN MOVE. WHAT A NUMPTY!
Tunisia will be forced to attack
Great start for Belgium, even earlier than Kane scored for England against Tunisia. Now they can relax a bit and play.
The only player on the field that plays in the Belgian league? Dylan Bronn who fouled Hazard for the penalty.
As in their first match, Tunisia haven't really got going yet and they're already one down.
Earliest World Cup goal conceded by Tunisia
Wow - that's a really interesting bit of trivia, mate. Well done!
The Jaundice Devils in the lead!
That penalty goal will settle Belgium, who were very nervous and sluggish in the first half against Panama earlier in the week.
LOL! Nice one!
Kahoul down after running into Hazard. That didn't look too fun.
Cheers, mate.
MLS ref off to a surprisingly decent start
Oh - Hazard was in there and might have scored his second!
The refereeing on the whole has been really good this tournament. And of course the VAR has taken a lot of the controversy out of the process.
Great Belgian move< Meretens won the ball in midfield, went on a solo run, played it out wide right to the Chunk and he passed to Hazard, whose close range effort was straight to the keeper.
Khazri goes down in the box but the ref waves on. Sassi talks his way into the book.
Black Cat goes down looking for a penalty. Really pathetic . Then Sassi stupidly talks himself into the book. One booking from being off less than a quarter of an hour into the match
Carrasco straight to the Tunisian keeper.
GOAL! Lukaku with a devastating finish to put Belgium 2-0 up!
GOAL !!! THE CHUNK PUTS BELGIUM TWO UP. LOOKS LIKE A LONG AFTERNOON FOR TUNISIA.
Excellent break there through Hazard who played The Chunk is with a lovely ball. Belgium off and running now.
It's going to be a long way back now for Tunisia.
mAALOUL HORRIBLY FAILED TO TRAP THE BALL AND mERTENS PICKED UP THE LOOSE BALL. pLAYED A NICE THROUGH BALL TO THE CHUNK WHO SCORED WITH A NICE FINISH
GOAL! Well, now! Tunisia are back in it with a super free kick goal! The first goal that Belgium have conceded this tournament.
GOAL !!! DYLAN BRONN HEADS IN A FREE KICK FROM THE BLACK CAT TO PULL IT BACK TO 2-1.
Lovely ball in from Khazri, the playmaker, and Bronn rose to glance home for his first international goal.
2-1!
Oh - nearly a third goal for Belgium!
OH!!!What save by the keeper off a superb volley from Hazard
If we weren't away yet, we are now - what a cracking match to start the weekend!
Bronn , the scorer, the only player on the pitch that plays in the Belgian league. Plays for Gent.
This is more like it.,
Oh - Toby intercepted there and found a shooting opportunity.
Toby picks up a loose pass and shoots wide of goal. Tunisian player down
The goalscorer Bronn has a problem now; down looking for treatment. He may have to go off.
It's Bronn, the scorer, that's down. Looks like a twisted ankle.
Tragic for Tunisia as a key player is done for the day, being stretchered off.
Replaced by Nagguuez, who plays in the Egyptian league
Nagguez getting stripped off to come on for Bronn, who is being stretchered off.
Khazri gets to the by-line but can only cross into Courtois' arms.
Two of the Tunisian defenders play in the Egyptian league. Belgium should take advantage of that
He did a lot of that for the Black Cats
Oh - Lukaku was in there but a poor touch allowed the ball to get away from him.
Belgium should have scored . Toby won the ball , put through the Chunk and overran it as he should have scored again
How is the flooding on your street today?
The Chunk tied for second with Cherries off with three goals.
Lukaku laid off a ball there to Witsel when he might have turned and shot. Deflected out for a corner.
Axel Rose has a shot deflected over as the pass was laid back to him by the Chunk after Tunisia coughed up possession
The sun came out yesterday and no rain in the forecast. Flooding has completely subsided here, but worse in other areas. Now humid like being in a tropical rain forest. Thank you for asking
Diego Costa also has three goals.
That's great to hear - will Sparky get a walkies during one of the breaks?
Sassi had a half chance there but put it by the post.
Sassi shoots well wide from the D after a poor defensive clearance off a cross from the Black Cat
We've reached the half-hour mark. Tunisia have slowly got into this match in the past ten minutes.
Yes. Other than getting his first walk at noon on Thursday, he's been following the normal schedule.
Lukaku getting some treatment right now; picked up a knock on his right ankle.
Oh - Khazri tries a pop from distance. Courtois had to slap it down.
The Black Cat with a long range effort pushed down by Courtois then gathered.
Muenier released down the right, ut his cross is straight to the keeper.
Oh - Meunier nearly played in Mertens - keeper grabbed it. Lukaku is back on now.
Black Cat with a poor final ball as was the norm when playing at the SOL.
Tunisian midfielder is pressing higher now, putting some pressure on Belgium as they try to play out of the back.
Great slide tackle by Boyata of Celtic. Black Cat down injured
Now Khazri is down - he would be a huge loss for Tunisia as he's been pulling the strings.
Tunisia to lose another key player?
Looks like he will be able to continue.
Khazri is coming back on, but still an injury worry for Tunisia.
Oh - Belgium try to pass it into the net - play gets broken up. Ginger should have had a go.
OH!!! Final pass from KDB too long . Several passes after Sassi coughed up possession.
Ben Joseph wide with a long range effort.
Now Tunisia have another player down. Wow!
STRUTH!!
I was awake at 5 not being able to sleep... then I fall asleep and miss the beginning of the match and three goals
We do not want a Tunisia win
Syam Ben Youssef is going to be stretchered off. That's two forced substations. Leicester player Ben Alouane coming on.
Morning, UWS! It's been a cracker so far. Welcome!
Tunisian player down. Injured or time wasting? Injured as the stretcher is on to bring him off and a sub warming up. That's it for the other Ben Joseph, Belouanne, of the Foxes replaces him. That may actually be an improvement.
You're absolutely right. We want a nice, tidy Belgium win here to put Tunisia on the verge of elimination. Then we do the biz against Panama tomorrow morning. Simple.
I am correct about not wanting a Tunisia win
A draw would be okay
Kahoul wins a corner off of Boyata . The corner caught by Courtois.
Now Vertonghen is down - this match has had a body count!
Good morning UWS. Glad you're joining us , but sorry you missed three goals.
Yes. We do want a Tunisian loss.
A draw would be okay but I think we'd prefer a Belgium win. It's simpler that way. We really don't care whether England finish top or second. Doesn't matter.
Have Tunisia played well?
UWS, you are probably not a fan of the Belgian jaundice kit.
We'd prefer second
A poor start by Tunisia , but have played well since going two down
A quartet of stoppage time minutes.
Why is that? We have to play either a Group E or F team regardless.
MUR you said Tunisian loss.....you meant win
That is, we get a Group H team in the Round of 16 and then a winner of either of the two Group E/F match-ups in the Quarters. Ordinarily that should be either Brazil or Germany but given their records, it's not entirely clear.
If Brazil win their group AND Germany come second, then they play each other followed by England
If they come second, they will miss both of them
OH!!! That's the second time Belgium have failed to score due to an atrocious pass from KDB. The Chunk would have had an an easy tap in
GOAL !!!! THE CHUNK WITH HIS SECOND . NOW 3-1
GOAL! Lukaku gets his second right at the death!
GOAL
Lukaku... Mr Golden Boot?.... puts Belgium 3-1 up
Kane... over to you
Lovely through ball there by Meunier to The Chunk, who dinked over the keeper for a lovely finish!
3-1!
Last kick of the half
Lukaku now tied with Ronaldo with four goals. No one in the Predictions Game pool picked him, strangely.
It's 3--1 at the half to Belgium. The Chunk now ties with Ronny for GBB
The Tunisian left back coughed up possession. Muenier played a one two with KDB then played a nice pass through the Tunisian defense , who were caught by surprise and The Chunk lobbed it past the on rushing keeper.
1954.... the last time the first 27 matches had a goal...just happened in 2018
13th penalty today
Tying the total in 2014
Lineker gave me those to tidbits
The Fake Becky said a World Cup record has been set as there have been 27 consecutive matches with a goal being scored.
You beat me to it, UWS.
Great news as former Wolves keeper, Carl Ikeme is in remission from cancer.
Was that TH 14 coming out of the locker room with the Belgian players?
Teams coming back out here at Ekaterinburg for the second half.
The second half is underway
And we're away - let's hope for more goals here.
Belgium win a corner off a punt from, Courtois.
Oh - Toby was in at the near post and nearly scored from Ginger's cross.
Taken short . Axel Rose passes to KDb and his pass is shot over by Toby
It was interesting to see that TH-14 was in the tunnel chatting with Hazard. Apparently, he has some formal role in the Belgium camp.
Tunisia nearly in but Vertonghen did well to track back.
Oh - Khazri nearly in there - Tunisia have started this half well. We could definitely see a few more goals.
Great last ditch block by Vetonghen from Khaoul; then the Black Cat fails to divert in a cross as the offside flag was raised.
Badrii with a shot deflected straight to Courtois.
Another good move allows Badri in for a shot on goal. Courtois saved.
GOAL !!! HAZARD WITH HIS SECOND AS BELGIUM NOW LEAD 4-1
GOAL! In the blink of an eye, Hazard latches on to a great through ball and rounds the keeper to score.
4-1!
Of course it was KDB with the sumptuous through ball there for Hazard. He's been pulling the strings for this side once again.
iN SOME WAYS A GRETA bELGIAN GOAL AND ALSO AWFUL tUNISIAN DEFENDING The ball was won in midfield by Vertonghen . He then played a superb long ball that caught out the Tunisians and was chested down by Hazard, who slotted it past the keeper.
It's been a great effort from Tunisia, but they have been outclassed.
I think we were both wrong. Toby with the through ball for the goal
Carrasco wins a corner taken short.
Carrasco overcooked the cross.
Really? Well, it was superb. Ball of the match so far.
The Chunk on a hat-trick and one goal from being sole GBB.
Hair Bear on for Man Yoo teammate, The Chunk, as Roberto is starting to shut up shop.
Lukaku won't get a chance to score his hat-trick; Hair Bear replacing him. Smart to take Lukaku off now, as he's still carrying a knock.
The final roll of the dice for Tunisia as Sassi, who is on a card, replaced by Siti , of Dijon mustard, whose side has not cut the mustard today
A good move and the Hair Bear should plug up any gaps
Oh - Carrasco nearly curled in a fifth goal.
OH!!! Carrasco has a curler go inches wide seconds after Tunisia had a chance.
Axel Rose brought down by Badri
Tom just read that Lukaku's back to back Braces is the time it has happened since Maradona in '86
Been busy cleaning around the house this morning
Kath's bro is arriving soon
This is Day 10 but DAY ONE for me and summer hols
Now the rain is bucketing down, while other parts of the stadium are in blinding sunshine. Peculiar.
Congrats on finishing the school year. Summer's here finally mate!
Hazard high and wide with a long range effort.
I second that. Delighted for you.
Badri turns a defender, but his shot is easily saved by Courtois.
Bahdri trans and shoots now - Courtois with a good stop.
If France win, Brazil win, Germany come second, Argentina come second, second place of Spain and Portugal... they would all be on the left had side of the draw along with Group G's winner!!
The other side could have Portugal/Spain winner, Croatia, Mexico and England second place
My pic skipped for a second and now the sound is off. Yours?
Some of these Tunisian players look like they could do a decent job in the Championship if they can handle the physical nature of the division
Hope it's raining tomorrow morning too
Batshuiyi comes on to replace Hazard. Smart by Roberto Martinez. They don't really need more goals at this point.
The picture did that earlier
Isn't Bats a striker?
Boyata called for a foul on Sliti
Great anoraking by Tom. Well done.
We don't need any rain here. Eleven inches this week. Our area even made The Weather Channel.
I'm okay here.
Bats offside, but the keeper rushed out to clear just in case.
This is how Round of 16 could go
Top
Uruguay v Portugal/Spain
France v Argentina
Brazil v Germany
Bel v any of H
Bottom
Spain/Port v Russia
Croatia v Demark
Mexico v Switzerland
England v any H
WE WANT SECOND
Clash of heads between Toby and Sliti
I meant rain for England so it isn't boiling
We have rain btw
Wonder how England any Belgium will play against each other. Could be a draw.
No one seems to be talking about one side of the draw possibly being really really heavy!!
They would both want to tank it
I don't understand what you mean by the left and right sides of the draw, mate. From what I understand, Groups A-D and Groups E-H are matched up through the to the Quarters.
That is Brazil and Germany (if they get out of their groups, that is) will be in England and Belgium's side of the draw through to the Quarter finals.
England and Belgium play a Group H team in the Round of 16 and then a winner of one of the Group E/F Round of 16 matches (on form, you'd presumably think it would be Brazil or Germany).
That's a good point, UWS. The location is dependent on the temperature as well.
Great sweeper keeping as Bats was through
England are right now five goal behind Belgium
England win 4 nil today and a draw will have us second
Of course, we have to wait and see what happens today. If Germany turn it around and Mexico blow it... then winning and coming second won't matter that much
JPDC... says GOAL... uh...NO
OH!!! Bats through, rounds the keeper, but miss hits it and it's cleared off the line by Meniah as it's a downpour
